Some places I just don't get the hype. Scoop N Roll Creamery is one of them. They opened back in 2015 during the rolled up ice cream phase/trend and have been extremely popular ever since (second location on Gateway Boulevard). Their original location is in quite the random spot: the Staples parking lot along 137 Avenue. Close to my old working grounds yet I never felt the urge to go. Finally made a visit on a dreary Friday afternoon. I've heard that the lineup can get crazy busy in the evenings and people wait over an hour for their dessert. Insane. Just shows Edmontonians are desperate for an artisanal ice cream spot to open up shop. Order your ice cream in two easy steps. Pick your ice cream flavour and then two mix-ins/toppings. Additional toppings are $0.50 extra and if you're feeling extra fancy, order their premium mix-ins/toppings. - Coconut ice cream with mango and pineapple ($7.00) - I've had rolled ice cream a few times now and what I've learned is it comes down to where the milk is source from. This makes or breaks it for me personally. For me, I didn't love the texture and the flavours were pretty muted. Check their social media feeds to find out when they're open. The season usually runs from May to late September/early October. The options are slim when it comes to ice cream spots but I wouldn't make a special trip out for this. 2.5 stars.

Finally stopped by the Scoop N Roll truck this past week. The staff were exceptionally patient with my 7 year old. After many changes she finally settled on Mango ice cream with mango and pineapple pieces and chocolate syrup on top. It's $7 flat unless you add extra stuff or premium items like Ferreror Rocher and then I think it was an extra $1. It's quite a wait and no where to really hide from the sun. The serving is easily enough for 2 which made the $7 +$1 tip easier to swallow but I wouldn't want to bring a family of 4 or 5 and have to plunk out $35 for each person to have an ice cream. It's a gimmick, sure, but my daughter loved it and I'm sure we'll be back this summer.

A bit of a unique spin on a classic dessert. Not only is it fun to watch it being made but it's also fun trying to decide what unique flavours combinations you want them to make for you. The ice cream itself is cold and creamy and oh so delicious. Me and my husband shared a bowl of mango ice cream with mango chunks and doubled up with the cheesecake too. Definitely worth the price for a special treat on a hot summer day. In a climate where such days are limited there's no excuse not to take advantage and make a special memory. I just wish they parked in an area where you could sit or go for a nice stroll as you enjoyed your ice cream.

Amazing and very creamy. Nice guys...I went chocolate with Nutella and Reese PB cups. Try the avocado too!

Well here I am, review#100 since I started this Yelp adventure! It's been a new way to experience a meal, a restaurant, a new venue. It's being just a great journey! So I picked Scoop N Roll for this centennial review, because Scoop N Rol is about flavor and mix!! Just follow these two steps and you will enjoy a delicious ice cream. Choose a Flavor: Vanilla, chocolate, **strawberry(my favorite), banana, mango, avocado, coconut, thai tea, matcha green tea, pistachio and coffee. Choose two toppings; depending of the topping it will be mixed with the ice cream base or spread on top then rolled: strawberry banana, mango, pineapple blueberry, nutella (one of my favorites), oreo, chocolate chips, ***mint chocolate chips(one of my favorites), butterscotch chips, reese's, M&M's, sprinkles, marshmallows, almonds. Probably by now you have guessed my order lol. I ordered a strawberry with nutella and mint chocolate chips! It was extremely delicious! I haven't try any other combination (yet) as I really enjoy this one every time. You can add an extra topping for 50 cents or premium toppings for $1 Cheesecake, $1.50 Ferrero Rocher or $2 Honeycomb. After ordering you will receive a number, so when the ice cream artist is ready to work on your order they will call your number and you can see the process! This is a great experience, the staff is so friendly and the wait is worth it, bring a friend, enjoy the sun and chat while you wait!

I've had Scoop and Roll three times now and each time I've savored every bite! The selection of flavored ice creams and tasty toppings are great! It's hard to deny the quality of the ice cream once you taste it. $7 is kind of pricey but it's worth it to treat yourself once in while. In my opinion the downside can be the super long lines. But they are pretty efficient and organized in taking care of the orders. You can pay cash or they have a debit/credit machine as well. You need to pay before they make your ice cream. If you can, try to go to the ice cream truck close to when it opens. I went with my sister before they even served the first customer! We were second in line. Fourteen minutes after opening (2:14pm on a Monday) we were already enjoying our ice cream and watching the growing number of people in line. Today we tried the coconut ice cream with pieces of banana and pineapple mixed in. It was kind of like a Pina Colada! Each order consists of 4 mini rolls of ice cream. My sister and I split an order (2 rolls each) and were pretty satisfied. My sister even said that one roll might have been enough for her. I totally recommend trying this ice cream! They constantly have long line ups of people willing to wait for this ice cream. There's a reason for this! It's soooo good! Scoop it up and roll with it!

The only thing preventing this from being a 5 star review is the wait time... We ALL loved our ice cream choice and the guys were fun and chatty with us while they were making our orders. The concept is very novel and the finished product is great quality with a decent value. But as I said you're probably gonna have to wait for it...not that it would prevent me from going back! Yes, we'll be back. That's some damn fine ice cream right there folks. Go get some.

I got the all chocolate everything it was amazing so good i loved the cacao nibs full of flavour I'm totally going back

~$7 each and 50 cent for 2 more toppings!

Rated as one of the top 15 ice cream shops in Canada, this place does not disappoint. We were incredibly lucky to order right before the frenzy ensued! The lines will get long because there are only 2 employees working on one order at a time! They have so many flavors and combinations that I wish I could try everything. I ordered their special for the week Moreo (mocha ice cream with oreo bits) and my companion ordered green tea. This ice cream is much more rich than gelato and the texture felt quite thick as if I was eating mochi. I loved it dissolve in my tongue with a plethora of toppings in my Moreo! It is also scooped ice cream where you watch the staff make the ice cream and scoop it into rolls. The team was also very friendly and welcomed me to my very first experience with Scoop n Roll! Great price for a delicious desert. I highly recommend this place to anyone who visits Edmonton!!!

One word: experience. Scoop n roll is more than just ice cream, it's an experience. Seeing someone make the ice cream from liquid form in front of your eyes is awesome. On a hot day, the flavour and quality can draw you from anywhere to this small truck. Heck I would actually even come here on a cold day. The only downside is the wait. It is very popular, so plan on waiting for about 15-20min for your number to be called. If you are in a rush, then this isn't going to be the best place for you. If there is no line, just go up to the front amd place your order, likely everyone standing around has already ordered or do not know to just go right up. They do take credit, debit and cash which is awesome! Also - don't forget your order number!

Matcha green tea with strawberry and almond mixins

After constantly asking the boyfriend to make the drive to the opposite side of the city to try this out, he finally caved today and we took the 30 minute drive from south side to the north to try scoop n roll out. Upon arrival, there were about 6 people ahead of us and a BIG group of other people waiting for their ice cream orders. People brought picnic blankets in smart planning as the wait was expected 45-50 minutes. For $7 you get a choice of a bunch of different flavours plus two free mixins. They also had the additional option of adding premium toppings for extra $. I ordered the matcha green tea with mixing of strawberry and almonds. I was kind of hesitant as I thought it would've been the nasty green tea flavours but I was surprisingly proved wrong! It tastes like real matcha powder is used and similar flavour to the one you'd taste in the yogen fruz stores. Taking into account the super long wait, drive, and heat that was going on today I took off a star but I can definitely see the hype of this place. It's something Edmonton doesn't have which brings in the crowds. Would we drive back? Yes, but only if we had ATLEAST an hour to spare. It's good ice cream, made from fresh ingredients and you see it made in front of your eyes. Downside is that it melts really fast :(

The ice cream itself is excellent. Creamy vanilla and strawberry was sweet and tart. The problem is the toppings. Think them through. I went with he vanilla with chocolate and butterscotch chips. The ice cream is rolled up after being chopped Teppanyaki style. And all the chips just fall out. Only had a few chips in my ice cream. Might have been nice if the left behind chips were scooped up and spread over the rolls. I'll be going back but choose my toppings wiser next time.

Booza and coconut with strawberry and mango
Cheryl P.

Legit my favorite ice cream place in the city. I get a different flavor everytime I go and I have never been disappointed. I'm sad that they'll be done for the reason soon because I could go here all year round. Today I tried Booza and sampled my mom's ice cream (coconut ice cream with strawberry and mango) and both were amaaaaazing especially booza. I'm definitely gonna try to go back a couple more times to get my fix definitely give it a try if you haven't already!

They even have a wall stocked with jams, honeys, caramels, chocolates, nuts, salts, sugars and other high end, super must have ingredients to wow your taste buds (and show off to your dinner guests!) I bought a delightful crystallized honey as well as a jar of salted caramel that is so amazing it could be drizzled on a dust bunny and make it taste divine! This month November 2025 the vegan flavour is Poached Pear and Brown Sugar Streusal. It is heavenly and I went to Made By Marcus two days in a row for this. I can't believe that it has taken me this long but I finally made it! Yelo'd is Whyte Ave's famed…read moreFilipino and Asian inspired ice cream shop and I have heard nothing but rave reviews about them since they opened in 2018. Named Favourite Dessert on the Edmonton Food Faves We Crave 2022 list, "yelo" means ice in Tagalog... And this shop is going to change your whole ice cream world. Located in Old Strathcona, Yelo'd used to be located down the street (on the other side of the tracks) in a much smaller space. They have since moved right into the action and are now in a gorgeous historic building, adding so much to the vibrancy of the avenue. I've watched this building (originally the Dominion Hotel built in 1903) struggle over the years to find the right combination of business tenants and I think that they've finally done it! The interior of the shop is large and spacious but the most striking feature is the elaborately decorated Victorian wooden porch at the entrance. You can just picture yourself sitting out there on a hot summer day with a delicious ice cream in hand, taking in the sights of Whyte Ave. The vibe inside is a bit more modern with gleaming pastry and ice cream cases, mural-covered walls, and neon lighting. The colour scheme leans purple which makes complete sense once you realize that ube (purple yam) is the signature flavour at Yelo'd. The shop feels bright and fresh, exuding an upbeat atmosphere while still maintaining a specific identity. I visited on a Sunday afternoon with the intention to taste and experience as much of Yelo'd as I possibly could! There was only one employee serving us and she was incredibly gracious as we proceeded to bombard her with our large and varied order. I certainly appreciated her efficiency and kindness. Before we even begin the topic of ice cream, it bears mentioning that Yelo'd offers a whole cafe menu of various coffees. This also includes tropical sodas and milkshakes. You could honestly visit just for the cafe aspect and to sit with a delicious beverage (and yes, I will be doing this). Most drinks can be made hot or iced which is handy depending on the season outside. I was drawn to their Iced Ube Latte ($5.50) which seemed like a great way to carry the purple theme into my coffee. Swirls of purple ube syrup mingled with the coffee and milk. It wasn't long before the entire beverage wore a violet hue. I liked this coffee a lot. It was sweet in just the way that I like it and I believe that it may have been made with evaporated milk which would also account for some of the sweetness. The ube flavour (and colour) made this beverage interesting and unique. I could see myself ordering one of these regularly, both hot and cold. Yelo'd also makes this same latte with pandan or yema, which I'm sure are equally delicious. I also noticed that there are seasonal drinks to choose from and that there's a secret staff drink menu??! Clearly, I have a lot more to discover in terms of sips at Yelo'd! There are so many exciting ice cream options at Yelo'd!! Not only do they offer a wide range of hard ice cream but their soft serve has become pretty famous in its own right. However, there's even more beyond that because they make sundaes and ice cream sandwiches as well. No matter what you're craving, they've certainly got you covered. One of the main things that I wanted to try was their straight-up Ube Soft Serve on a charcoal Waffle Cone ($6.50). Yelo'd usually has two soft serve flavours on the go at all times which rotate, but they always keep ube on hand. You can get one solid flavour or a swirl of two. On my visit the second flavour was macapuno (coconut). I decided to forgo the swirl because I really just wanted to try their ube soft serve all on its own (and in all of its glory). This perfectly simple cone was magic. The quality of the soft serve was top-notch and ultra creamy without an ice crystal in sight. The flavour of the ube was nutty and somewhat similar to vanilla, captured wonderfully on this cone. Of course the violaceous colour is part of what makes it so much fun! I loved the crunchy and sweet waffle cone, the charcoal black acting in striking colour contrast. This soft serve is some of the best in the whole city, if not just the overall best. (I sometimes go around saying that hard ice cream is "over" and this soft serve only convinced me further.) Next, I had to try the most popular item on the menu and the dessert synonymous with the Philippines; Halo Halo (Philippine shaved ice with jellies, jackfruit, coconut strings, red beans + your choice of soft ice cream or scoop - $12.00). I find it incredibly exciting that halo halo has arrived in Edmonton and that there are a few places to try it these days. "Halo halo" means mix-mix in Tagalog, which is exactly what the dessert entails - a mix of ingredients that you get to mix together! It's like a big Filipino sundae filled with an array of flavours and textures. Halo halo can be prepared in a bunch

I wasn't that big of a fan of the Matcha Berry since it was more sour tasting and the matcha wasn't that strong. I definitely wouldn't mind coming back to try more flavours though.
