We made an unexpected stop here on a unusually warm winter day as it was recommended by a family member. There was a line out the door but it moved quickly so we could ponder the flavor choices as we waited. I was interested in the revolving flavors available for Valentines day, which included Cinnamon Hearts, Rose Crème Brulee, Lovefest and Melona (honeydew version). I had the Rose Crème Brulee as I liked the delicate rose flavor (which is hard to achieve without feeling like you are chewing on petals) and the crunchy shards that mimic the brulee of the crème brulee. It was creamy without being cloyingly too sweet. A lovely local icecream brand. Not a lot of seating, so be prepared to go for a walk to eat in the car on a busy day. For those interested, they have vegan options also!

Kind ice cream is a great place to visit when in the Ritchie neighbourhood. The ice cream is made from premium quality ingredients and the flavours are unique. The shop is nicely decorated and the service is very friendly! I tried a split scoop of lemon cloud and key lime pie ice creams. I really liked both of the flavours. I'm looking forward to trying more soon!

Kind ice cream is one of my favourite places in Edmonton to go for crafted ice creams. They have 3 rotating flavours that change every single month along with their regular flavours. Make sure you check out online to see what their rotating flavours are so you dont miss out! The shop itself is quite nice with a few tables inside for seating and the service is always good. The staff is very helpful if you need some assistance in choosing ice cream flavours. They can offer you a sample or give you some guidance. Keep in mind during summer and hot days, the line up can be out the door but it usually moves pretty quickly. The ice cream itself has just the perfect amount of flavour and thickness to it. The waffle cones made inhouse are delicious and gives the shop quite a yummy aroma. They only thing that I do not like, is the vegan line of ice creams. I am not vegan myself but the texture is a little different from "regular" ice creams. It doesn't taste bad by any means and is a good option for those who are vegan. They also sell pints of their crafted ice creams for $10 each if you'd like to take some home. My personal favourites are the River Valley Road which is their take on Rocky Road and also Cookies and Sour Cream.

Finally was able to try Kind Ice Cream while we were in town. They're across the street from Ritchie Market that houses Little Duchess Bake Shop, Transcend Coffee, ACME Meat Market and Biera/Blind Enthusiasm. We dropped in on a Friday afternoon (around 4:00pm) and there was a small queue. It went fairly quick though as they have two separate ordering counters. There were 12 always flavours (with two vegan options) and four rotating flavours. Scoops are $5.50 (single) and $7.50 (double) while pints are $10.00. Waffle cones are an additional $1.00. - Double scoop ($7.50) - we opted for the frosé sorbet and cookies & sour cream. The frosé was surprisingly delightful, fruity (they use a pear and strawberry purée) and refreshing. The cookies & sour cream spin on the classic flavour intrigued us. It had just the right balance of sour note to it. Debit or credit only. Glad to see there's finally some ice cream options/competition in town. Will be back again!

Super friendly staff! Allowed us to try a few different kinds prior to choosing which one we wanted! Ended up getting the key lime pie (GO NOW), and the maple bourbon pecan (AGAIN, GO NOW). 5/5!! I will be back!!!

Nanaimo bar ice cream??? The most decadent ever!

There's a reason there's usually a line stretching outside this place on warm days; delicious local made small batch ice cream in a variety of inventive flavours. The staff are friendly and they have both cones to eat immediately and small tubs to take away. They tend to have a smaller selection of flavours which rotate often, so you may get to try lots of different tastes if you keep coming back. If I could change just one thing, it's that sometimes some of their flavours are a little TOO sweet; could be toned down a bit and that might actually bring out the flavours a little more too in some cases. The maple pecan for example is delicious but VERY sugary, and the nanaimo bar ice cream... well, what was I expecting really from that one? Delicious, but VERY sweet. Nonetheless, a great place to visit on a hot day, or if you want to treat yourself!

You know what's having a bit of a moment right now? Artisan ice cream. The small-batch, made with love kind. In Edmonton there are two main players; Made by Marcus (which is from Calgary) and Edmonton's very own Kind Ice Cream. Both places serve hard ice cream and both are very good, however, supporting the business from right here at home feels like the right thing to do. Edmonton Journal named Kind the Best Ice Cream Shop 2020 and Best Ice Cream Shop 2021, so it's gotta be good. Kind Ice Cream has two adorable locations, with the original shop situated in Ritchie directly across the street from Ritchie Market. It's one of the coolest little slices of the city and the absolute ideal spot for an ice cream shop. (The second location is in Highlands which is pretty much just as cool.) Opening in 2019, the shop is still fairly new but it finally put Edmonton onto the ice cream map. Kind thrives to use the very best ingredients, crafting some of the best ice cream that anyone has ever tasted. Are they succeeding? I'd say that they're doing pretty well! From their "Always Flavours," the ones that are consistently available, to their "Rotating Flavours," there is always something new and interesting to try. I visited on a Saturday afternoon, it was a beautiful sunny day, and it was most certainly ice cream time. There is very often a long lineup, especially on a nice day. You should be prepared to stand in line for a while, otherwise plan your visit for a less popular time of day. Ice cream at 11am anyone? Don't let people judge you. Alternatively, you could show up on a bad-weather day and easily walk right in. There is no wrong time for ice cream. The shop is small and cute, with a fresh and easy vibe. They've got a bit of neon lighting in there (on trend!) and the simplistic and clean decor works well. There's a surprising amount of ice cream to choose from (who would've thought!) including ten different flavours that are always on hand. This month Kind is featuring an (awesome) '90s Series with three bonus flavours that include; Dunkaroos, Deep'n Delicious, and Grape Crush Sorbet. I was pretty pleased to be visiting when I did because anything 90s speaks my language! You can get your scoops delivered to you in a multitude of ways; in either a cup or cone, single scoop or double, and you can upgrade to a waffle cone. The hottest tip around is that if you go for a single scoop they'll let you divide it into two different flavours. It's the best way to go and it gives you the perfect amount of ice cream. However, on my visit I was going big or going home. I approached the friendly staff behind the counter and ordered TWO Double Scoop Waffle Cones ($8.50 each) which equals four different ice cream flavours. I needed to try as much as possible. Once I gave my flavour order I requested that the staff combine whichever two flavours (per cone) that they thought would work the best together and they were happy to oblige. I LOVE that their beautiful cone holders are made by Ryspot Design, a very awesome Edmonton maker. These sorts of details are not lost on me and I appreciate that so many elements of their experience are kept local. The flavours!!! Here is what I picked! River Valley Road ~ River Valley Road is our take on the perennial classic, Rocky Road. Gooey marshmallows, house-made brownie pieces and crunchy candied walnuts and walnut bitters in a milk chocolate base. Let's zip along the North Sask together, shall we? This flavour seemed like a must because it's the most "Edmonton" of them all. With a name like "River Valley Road," this has gotta be Edmonton's signature ice cream flavour. Ultra chocolatey, if you're a person who loves chocolate but also wants a little something extra involved, this is the flavour for you. I loved the crunch from the walnuts and the chew from the brownie. My favourite part was the marshmallow and I wish that I had gotten more bites with marshmallow in it! Great for lots of different texture, this is one tasty scoop. Maple Bourbon Pecan ~ Our maple bourbon pecan is the perfect storm of deliciousness. Packed with roasted pecans delicately coated in sweet maple syrup and a hit of Kentucky bourbon, it's got the crunch, the salty-sweet, and the boozy joy. Of all the flavours, this is the one that I'd heard the most about. This is the one that people seem to love. And I can see why because I loved it too. It might very well have been my favourite. The thing that impressed me the most was that I could really taste the bourbon and it added such a wonderful element in play with the maple. The pecans definitely took on a salty-sweet crunchy quality which is so addictive. This flavour gives you everything that you need and I will keep coming back for it. Salted Caramel ~ We make our salted caramel ice cream the right way. We make our own salted caramels using the best possible ingredients, finish them with a hit of Maldon salt, and melt them down into our sweet cream base to create this mi

Located in the heart of Ritchie, parking available on the street or parking pad behind. Incredibly busy, especially over the summer, where lineups are to the street. Quaint little shop with friendly staff. Small indoor bench seating by the window and outside if good weather. Minimal but appropriate amount of selection of ice cream with chef made flavors. Ice cream has some density to it and definitely served as adequate portion. 1 scoop is enough for one person and you can ask for two flavors in one! The waffles cones are also tasty. In October they had pumpkin flavor if your adventurous :). Tastes like ice cream should- rich and cream and not plastic! Vegan options available. Worth a visit at least once to try. Love supporting local!

Edmonton's first, much needed, small batch hard ice cream shop, with "chef created" flavours, in the heart of the Ritchie neighbourhood. So far I've sampled 4 flavours and loved them all. Feel free to sample them all - you're totally allowed to. You can split a single scoop into two flavours, and I found the portion to be very generous. I imagine the lines are going to be pretty outrageous on any hot summer day, but I'd say it's worth it!

A great local ice-cream shop that is Kind of a hit. Atmosphere: 3/5 - Small shop with not that much seating, sleek + modern aesthetic. Price: $$$/5 - Average for a premium ice cream store. $6.50 for a single scoop in a waffle cone. Customer Service: 4/5 - Employees were polite but a little slow. The store has a long line most nights. Location: 4/5 - Great location but can be out of the way for many. Taste: 3/5 - More creamy than sweet which I personally do not prefer. Menu: 5/5 - Lots of unique as well as classic ice cream flavours. Vegan-friendly. Sustainability: 5/5 - Compostable spoons, cups & napkins make this shop very, kind, to the earth Strengths - Sustainable practices, great menu all at a beautiful. Weaknesses - Long + slow-moving line, not much seating. Good items to buy: Cold Brew Coffee flavour, Maple Bourbon Pecan Summary: 4/5 - Overall, I would recommend stopping by Kind ice-cream especially if you prefer a creamier ice-cream. Is it my favourite spot in Edmonton? No, but it is still very good. They have an excellent menu with many unique flavours. While it is a shame that they don't have very much seating it is also nice because you can go for a beautiful walk through the local neighborhood parks. Kind clearly wants to be a local leader in sustainability which I value greatly. Thank you for taking the time to read my review and I hope it helps you!!

Deep and delicious rotating flavour for May and maple bourbon pecan always flavour

Went on a super sunny Monday afternoon and there was a lineup outside but it went super fast. I love the red light green light system they use so you know when it is your turn to go in the store and it felt super safe distanced with markings to know where to stand. I maybe would say to update the sign outside with the rotating flavours as well in case you don't have a phone to look it up but that is minor. The shop is super cute and the staff were very friendly, quick and efficient. I like that they are inclusive and safe environment where everyone is welcome. Would definitely go back!

Named Favourite Dessert on the Edmonton Food Faves We Crave 2022 list, "yelo" means ice in Tagalog... And this shop is going to change your whole ice cream world. Located in Old Strathcona, Yelo'd used to be located down the street (on the other side of the tracks) in a much smaller space. They have since moved right into the action and are now in a gorgeous historic building, adding so much to the vibrancy of the avenue. I've watched this building (originally the Dominion Hotel built in 1903) struggle over the years to find the right combination of business tenants and I think that they've finally done it! The interior of the shop is large and spacious but the most striking feature is the elaborately decorated Victorian wooden porch at the entrance. You can just picture yourself sitting out there on a hot summer day with a delicious ice cream in hand, taking in the sights of Whyte Ave. The vibe inside is a bit more modern with gleaming pastry and ice cream cases, mural-covered walls, and neon lighting. The colour scheme leans purple which makes complete sense once you realize that ube (purple yam) is the signature flavour at Yelo'd. The shop feels bright and fresh, exuding an upbeat atmosphere while still maintaining a specific identity. I visited on a Sunday afternoon with the intention to taste and experience as much of Yelo'd as I possibly could! There was only one employee serving us and she was incredibly gracious as we proceeded to bombard her with our large and varied order. I certainly appreciated her efficiency and kindness. Before we even begin the topic of ice cream, it bears mentioning that Yelo'd offers a whole cafe menu of various coffees. This also includes tropical sodas and milkshakes. You could honestly visit just for the cafe aspect and to sit with a delicious beverage (and yes, I will be doing this). Most drinks can be made hot or iced which is handy depending on the season outside. I was drawn to their Iced Ube Latte ($5.50) which seemed like a great way to carry the purple theme into my coffee. Swirls of purple ube syrup mingled with the coffee and milk. It wasn't long before the entire beverage wore a violet hue. I liked this coffee a lot. It was sweet in just the way that I like it and I believe that it may have been made with evaporated milk which would also account for some of the sweetness. The ube flavour (and colour) made this beverage interesting and unique. I could see myself ordering one of these regularly, both hot and cold. Yelo'd also makes this same latte with pandan or yema, which I'm sure are equally delicious. I also noticed that there are seasonal drinks to choose from and that there's a secret staff drink menu??! Clearly, I have a lot more to discover in terms of sips at Yelo'd! There are so many exciting ice cream options at Yelo'd!! Not only do they offer a wide range of hard ice cream but their soft serve has become pretty famous in its own right. However, there's even more beyond that because they make sundaes and ice cream sandwiches as well. No matter what you're craving, they've certainly got you covered. One of the main things that I wanted to try was their straight-up Ube Soft Serve on a charcoal Waffle Cone ($6.50). Yelo'd usually has two soft serve flavours on the go at all times which rotate, but they always keep ube on hand. You can get one solid flavour or a swirl of two. On my visit the second flavour was macapuno (coconut). I decided to forgo the swirl because I really just wanted to try their ube soft serve all on its own (and in all of its glory). This perfectly simple cone was magic. The quality of the soft serve was top-notch and ultra creamy without an ice crystal in sight. The flavour of the ube was nutty and somewhat similar to vanilla, captured wonderfully on this cone. Of course the violaceous colour is part of what makes it so much fun! I loved the crunchy and sweet waffle cone, the charcoal black acting in striking colour contrast. This soft serve is some of the best in the whole city, if not just the overall best. (I sometimes go around saying that hard ice cream is "over" and this soft serve only convinced me further.) Next, I had to try the most popular item on the menu and the dessert synonymous with the Philippines; Halo Halo (Philippine shaved ice with jellies, jackfruit, coconut strings, red beans + your choice of soft ice cream or scoop - $12.00). I find it incredibly exciting that halo halo has arrived in Edmonton and that there are a few places to try it these days. "Halo halo" means mix-mix in Tagalog, which is exactly what the dessert entails - a mix of ingredients that you get to mix together! It's like a big Filipino sundae filled with an array of flavours and textures. Halo halo can be prepared in a bunch

Came here for a treat. Street parking. Staff was very kind and was agreeable to samples. Lots of…read morecool flavors. I love the sampler idea! Was more than enough for 2 people. Wish you could get smaller portions as 4 scoops is a lot of ice cream. We tried the Cherry/lemon, Tres Leches, Salted Caramel , and Match Mint chip. Cherry lemon was 6/10, not as strong of flavors as I hoped. Tes Leches was 6/10 very light/no flavor. Salted Caramel was 8/10 - almost too salty but great in combination with other flavors. Match mint was 9/10 good. Overall texture of the ice creams was 10/10 - very creamy, rich, smooth. I also sampled the banana honeycomb and it was 10/10. Just banana pureed but the honeycomb was such a sweet addition. Nice atmosphere to hang out and eat inside or outside on the big picnic table. Overall pretty happy with my experience here.
