Scoop n Roll Creamery was quite the hype during summer and with them pushing ads on Instagram and not to mention; the crowd outside their icecream truck in the evenings that you cannot help; but notice! I did my bit of research before I went, fixed on the flavors and toppings and what exactly I wanted (I'm very dedicated when it comes to food and especially anything and everything sweet! ). So for a fixed amount of CAD 8, you get to choose your base icream from quite a few options including mango, coconut, matcha, chocolate, etc and 2 toppings (included in the 8 dollars). They charge 50 cents for each extra topping. We tried the Pistachio icecream with almonds and chocolate drizzle. Its fun watching them transform thick icecream liquid base into solidified icecream. It seems SO little while they prepare it, but OH MY- its a lot to have for one person- 4 rolls of icecream. The flavors arent very strong, so as to say. Extremely pleasant experience with the awesome weather outside and some cold treats. They're gone for the year but back soon. Till next summer! VFM: 4/5

Scoop N Roll has finally arrived on the south side. I've been following these guys on social media and drooled over all the IG posts last summer, so I obviously had to try it when I seen the truck on the south side. Even in pouring rain. I ordered the banana ice cream with Reese and Nutella mix in. I didn't know what to expect, and I find a lot of over-hyped places are exactly that. However, I was pleasantly surprised. It's $7, but it is a generous portion that you can easily share. At first, the rolls fall apart as you try to eat with your spoon, but just give it 5 minutes and it becomes just the right amount of melted. I was very pleased with the flavours... all 3 I picked were very prominent. Now, I really don't think it's worth waiting in line for more than 20 minutes... but I guess unless you go when it's +8 and pouring rain, you could be waiting for a very long time. That'll be up to you to decide if you want to wait :) Oh, and they take debit/credit/cash.

I'll do anything for ice cream. Scoop n roll is no exception. I've been here a couple of times throughout my busy summer and wanted to keep coming back! It's a small truck off of Gateway boulevard in the parking lot of the Second Cup and Dots. They usually have a small sign up so you don't miss it! They have in house made ice cream and you get to pick your toppings. Every time I went I got the vanilla ice cream with blueberry, banana, and cheesecake mixed in. If you want a heavenly experience, get this. They have a wide range of mix ins like Oreos, sprinkles, matcha, chocolate chips. There are some toppings that are extra; I think I paid an extra dollar for the cheesecake. It's a little pricey for ice cream but they make it in front of you and it is the new "trend" of rolled ice cream so obviously it's going to cost a little more than a DQ cone. The staff there are pretty nice and they call you before they make your roll so you can come watch it being made. There is always a line. It might have died down a bit now that the summer is winding down, but in June and July there was always at least a line of 10 people after 5PM. They're also not super fast. They do their thing as quick as they can but it's not a grab-n-go type of establishment. Overall, not bad at all. Some people think it's just a gimmick but the ice cream was probably some of the best I've ever had. Doesn't matter to me whether or not it's rolled. It's a bit pricey, and there's always a long wait, but in my opinion it's usually worth it!

    The truck!

My Summer fling. Unless they stay open in the Fall! This truck is magical. The Scoop N Roll is all the rage on Instagram. If you haven't seen the photos yet, then you are missing out on the #instafood #foodporn trend. The best part is that photos on the rolled ice cream will not only look good on your social media, but it tastes DELICIOUS. The rolled ice cream concept was started in Thailand, and is now the best ice cream in town. It is fresh and made right in front of your eyes. Yes there is usually a line-up especially on hot days. But be smart! Head there on a weekday evening for less of a crowd. STEP 1: Choose your ice cream flavour. Flavours include vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, banana, mango, Thai tea, coffee, coconut, avocado, pistachio and Matcha green tea. I am attempting to try all of them, but so far the pistachio is killer. STEP 2: Choose two mix-ins/toppings (extras are 50 cents a piece). Toppings include blueberries, strawberries, mango, pineapple, banana, nutella, oreo, chocolate chips, mint chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, reese's, m&ms, rainbow sprinkles, marshmallows or almonds. Some are mixed in, whereas others are added on top. There are additional mix-ins for a charge: cheesecake ($1), ferrero rocher ($1.50) and honeycomb ($2). They also have specials of the week that are mentioned on their Instagram. So the options are unlimited! Plus, the staff are hilarious and super chill. They always ask if you are new and where you heard about the truck. Check it out!

We arrived around dinner time and we were lucky because there was no line! $7 includes tax for a flavor plus 2 toppings. Surprisingly its a good quantity of ice cream, more than enough to satisfy you. I was definitely full after. It's different than just regular ice cream , as it's harder and less sweet. We tried 2 flavors - strawberry w/ mango and pineapple; pistachio w/ almonds and Nutella. Both good! I really like the fruit bits, they freeze over and are nice and chewy. I know some ppl wait 1hr+ for the ice cream at busy time. Not sure if I'd wait that amount of time.. go during non busy times i.e: not after dinner on fri / sat and you shouldn't have as much of a wait. Overall, pleased and would def try again.

Good ice cream, and a fun location to hang out with friends! For $7 you get two toppings with real fruit, cookies, or nuts. I tried the coconut ice cream base with pineapple and mango. The flavor was fresh and the quality of ice cream was good, and it's definitely cool to watch them make your it. The people working there were friendly and quite humourous in spite of their long working hours in the hot weather. Theice is a bit expensive and the line can be quite long (I went at 9pm and still waited for half an hour), so it's definitely more of a special occasions thing rather than your common corner ice cream store. But it's worth a try if you're in the area! Bring some friends and get some refreshing ice cream!

The line is long, but you can't rush the delicious masterpiece they are making! The ice cream is delicious. They chop up the topping you get into the ice cream, so it is nice and smooth. You can customize your ice cream to however you like. With the price of $7, it may seem like thats really expensive, but you also have to consider the arm muscle they are putting into it. The employees are friendly to chat to while they are making your ice cream. The end result is definantly worth the wait and time. I would reccomend that if time allows, go right when they open, the line wont be a lot shorter.

They even have a wall stocked with jams, honeys, caramels, chocolates, nuts, salts, sugars and other high end, super must have ingredients to wow your taste buds (and show off to your dinner guests!) I bought a delightful crystallized honey as well as a jar of salted caramel that is so amazing it could be drizzled on a dust bunny and make it taste divine! This month November 2025 the vegan flavour is Poached Pear and Brown Sugar Streusal. It is heavenly and I went to Made By Marcus two days in a row for this. Yelo'd is Whyte Ave's famed…read moreFilipino and Asian inspired ice cream shop and I have heard nothing but rave reviews about them since they opened in 2018. Named Favourite Dessert on the Edmonton Food Faves We Crave 2022 list, "yelo" means ice in Tagalog... And this shop is going to change your whole ice cream world. Located in Old Strathcona, Yelo'd used to be located down the street (on the other side of the tracks) in a much smaller space. They have since moved right into the action and are now in a gorgeous historic building, adding so much to the vibrancy of the avenue. I've watched this building (originally the Dominion Hotel built in 1903) struggle over the years to find the right combination of business tenants and I think that they've finally done it! The interior of the shop is large and spacious but the most striking feature is the elaborately decorated Victorian wooden porch at the entrance. You can just picture yourself sitting out there on a hot summer day with a delicious ice cream in hand, taking in the sights of Whyte Ave. The vibe inside is a bit more modern with gleaming pastry and ice cream cases, mural-covered walls, and neon lighting. The colour scheme leans purple which makes complete sense once you realize that ube (purple yam) is the signature flavour at Yelo'd. The shop feels bright and fresh, exuding an upbeat atmosphere while still maintaining a specific identity. I visited on a Sunday afternoon with the intention to taste and experience as much of Yelo'd as I possibly could! There was only one employee serving us and she was incredibly gracious as we proceeded to bombard her with our large and varied order. I certainly appreciated her efficiency and kindness. Before we even begin the topic of ice cream, it bears mentioning that Yelo'd offers a whole cafe menu of various coffees. This also includes tropical sodas and milkshakes. You could honestly visit just for the cafe aspect and to sit with a delicious beverage (and yes, I will be doing this). Most drinks can be made hot or iced which is handy depending on the season outside. I was drawn to their Iced Ube Latte ($5.50) which seemed like a great way to carry the purple theme into my coffee. Swirls of purple ube syrup mingled with the coffee and milk. It wasn't long before the entire beverage wore a violet hue. I liked this coffee a lot. It was sweet in just the way that I like it and I believe that it may have been made with evaporated milk which would also account for some of the sweetness. The ube flavour (and colour) made this beverage interesting and unique. I could see myself ordering one of these regularly, both hot and cold. Yelo'd also makes this same latte with pandan or yema, which I'm sure are equally delicious. I also noticed that there are seasonal drinks to choose from and that there's a secret staff drink menu??! Clearly, I have a lot more to discover in terms of sips at Yelo'd! There are so many exciting ice cream options at Yelo'd!! Not only do they offer a wide range of hard ice cream but their soft serve has become pretty famous in its own right. However, there's even more beyond that because they make sundaes and ice cream sandwiches as well. No matter what you're craving, they've certainly got you covered. One of the main things that I wanted to try was their straight-up Ube Soft Serve on a charcoal Waffle Cone ($6.50). Yelo'd usually has two soft serve flavours on the go at all times which rotate, but they always keep ube on hand. You can get one solid flavour or a swirl of two. On my visit the second flavour was macapuno (coconut). I decided to forgo the swirl because I really just wanted to try their ube soft serve all on its own (and in all of its glory). This perfectly simple cone was magic. The quality of the soft serve was top-notch and ultra creamy without an ice crystal in sight. The flavour of the ube was nutty and somewhat similar to vanilla, captured wonderfully on this cone. Of course the violaceous colour is part of what makes it so much fun! I loved the crunchy and sweet waffle cone, the charcoal black acting in striking colour contrast. This soft serve is some of the best in the whole city, if not just the overall best. (I sometimes go around saying that hard ice cream is "over" and this soft serve only convinced me further.) Next, I had to try the most popular item on the menu and the dessert synonymous with the Philippines; Halo Halo (Philippine shaved ice with jellies, jackfruit, coconut strings, red beans + your choice of soft ice cream or scoop - $12.00). I find it incredibly exciting that halo halo has arrived in Edmonton and that there are a few places to try it these days. "Halo halo" means mix-mix in Tagalog, which is exactly what the dessert entails - a mix of ingredients that you get to mix together! It's like a big Filipino sundae filled with an array of flavours and textures. Halo halo can be prepared in a bunch

I wasn't that big of a fan of the Matcha Berry since it was more sour tasting and the matcha wasn't that strong. I definitely wouldn't mind coming back to try more flavours though. The truck doesn't have a fixed location so remember to check their Instagram page before going.
