The ice cream was good. In my option not better than Graeter's (Ohio/KY based company). A lot of choices make it extremely hard to narrow it down. We all got a 6 scoop sampler. The portion was huge. For 6 scoops and a waffle cone (to break and eat with the ice cream) was $15.10. It wasn't too crowded when we went on a Monday in late June at 8pm. read more

To be honest most times when I have gone to the Scoop Deck it is with my grandparents or a large group and I am treated. No one has ever mentioned anything about it being expensive in fact we normally concentrate on the ENORMOUS portion sizes. Everything here is good. Go with your gut I normally pick my good old favorites of either Peppermint Stick - which is a treat bc they have it all year round when many companies keep it a seasonal thing- or anything else with mint in it. You really can't go wrong here and remember it is always worth the line. After you order you can take your to go cup or cone to the back yard where they have an open small field and picnic tables during the day. If you are in Wells or the area this is a MUST. read more

I just got back from a two week stay in Ogunquit, and I must admit that we visited The Scoop Deck every single day without fail. Thank God I forced myself to run three miles every morning. Yes, it's true that they do not make their own ice cream (it's from a place in New Hampshire called Blake's). But who cares? They chose really amazing ice cream to serve. There are about a gazillion flavors, and the portions are huge (a small is ginormous--if you really want a small cone, order the kiddie size, which is still bigger than a normal small from another place). Some favorite flavors: Fool's Gold, Graham Central Station (kind of tastes like it has Golden Grahams in it, but it's so freaking good), Peppermint Stick, Candy Bar World...I could go on. SO GOOD. They also will pack pints to go. Don't miss it if you're in the area and you're an ice cream head! read more

Scoop Deck has good tasting ice cream the problem is the service and unsanitary conditions. While almost all of the people working there are nice they are very painfully slow. Also they need to train their people on sanitary conditions. I witnessed more than one scooper touching their noses and then touching the cones and scooping ice cream. Also some of them are collecting money, then they take a wet towel that is used over and over by the other scoopers, they wipe their hands then scoop the ice cream and touch your cone. The kid that scooped my ice cream picked up the cone with a napkin then took the cone in his bare hand and then put a napkin over the cone and then moved his hand down to the napkin. Also there are two doors with lines, of course I picked the wrong line, the other line served at least 25/30 people that came after me. There were approximately 10 people in front of me and it took almost a half hour before I was served. Like I said the ice cream is very good but there are other ice cream shops in the area whose ice cream is just as good and have employees that take germs and sanitary conditions seriously! Does Maine have a law that if a person is touching your food they need to wear gloves? If not, they really should! If they do, they need to enforce the law! Next time I will choose one of the other ice cream shops. I really wish Scoop Deck would do something's to improve their sanitary conditions and train their people to not be touching their noses and then touching food. What happened to washing your hands with soap and water after touching money and touching your face or anything else dirty and germy!?! I really wish this place did not go down hill! 2015 update... I'm happy to say the SD is still here. Furthermore they are still kicking ass, taking names, and serving up the best ice cream in ME. We've been in Wells for a couple weeks and have hit it up a few times so far. I'm loving the Sweet and Salty this year. The servers have been great this summer... No complaints from this guy. Also, we were able to bring our daughters (3yo and 6mo) here for their first trips. Both love it! Our 3yo loves the blueberry with jimmies. That's all for now. read more

Part of our annual stay in the Ogunquit area is nightly ice cream! We headed out to the Scoop Deck one night after mini-golf. Huge crowds but the staff kept the folks moving through and provided service with a smile. Fun souvenir tee shirts and other gear available. Plus the crowds are part of the atmosphere! Lots of benches to sit on and a giant parking lot. I had a kiddie scoop and couldn't finish it: these are very generous portions. In my case, I had Rocky Road which was supposed to be chocolate ice cream with marshmallows and chocolate covered almonds (as described by Scoop Deck's own materials) but it had a sort of off-testing brownie batter type ribbon throughout which sort of ruined it for me. I will go back and try one of their fruit-flavored ice creams. Chocolate Cookie Monster and Muddy Turtle matched the descriptions on the menu and so did the Chocolate! The ice cream had tiny ice crystals in it which is a matter of taste. Some people like that, others don't, and some folks don't notice one way or another because ice cream is yummy and life is too short to complain! Enjoy your stay in Maine! read more

No Banana!!?!?! Whyyyyyy Did you get rid of banana flavored ice cream???? I LOVE this place. Have been coming here for YEARS!!! The servers are generally very nice and everyone leaves with a smile on their face. For people that aren't fans of Banana, don't worry, they have about 100 other flavors!! I would give this place 5 stars, but now that I can't enjoy Banana, I'll deduct a star until they bring it back! It's soooooo hard to find banana ice cream, so I look forward to my Summers in Ogunquit and eating banana ice cream from Scoop Deck. I came here on opening day this year to get my banana ice cream. I go to Wells Beach every summer and visit to The Scoop Deck is always a must. Okay, you will definitely find me there more then once during my vacation! The ice cream selection there is the most extensive I have ever seen. If you want to try a unique flavor, go for the Gram Station - its a Gram Cracker flavored ice cream with chunks of gram cracker. It is delicious and tastes amazing with some hot fudge. Also, the town of Wells closes down early but the scoop deck is open until 11pm. It makes a great nighttime outing. A vital part of every vacation I've taken to Maine in the last fifteen years... lots of great memories of summer nights spent here looking at the giant flavor board outside and then waiting for what seemed like forever for the massive portion of ice cream that was sure to follow.
