I usually come here once during each annual trip to Maine for my sweet fix. Big Licks is in a prime spot on the main road leading to the pier, beach, and amusement park. They have plenty of flavors and generous serving sizes. I'm a fan of moose tracks, caramel, and brownie/fudge flavors. I've never had a bad cup of ice cream here. DELICIOUS!! We walked in on a whim but glad we did! Cash only. ATM next door. Right next to the pay 50 cents bathroom. The counterperson was extremely nice, even made a small cone for the baby (but he's too young!) The kids made crazy combinations. My husband had a coffee shake. I had cake batter ice cream. Stopped in for ice cream on Tuesday. Both of us got our scoops in cups instead of cones because of the heat. My single scoop of mint Oreo cookie filled the cup! The missus two scoops were quite the tower! Her chocolate brownie had large brownie chunks (my mint had lots of cookies). Ice cream was creamy but mild flavors. Still good choice on a hot day. Caveat on cash only (though every corner seems to have an ATM). I found their menu boards tough to read unless real close to the counter. Poor choice of color versus background on many items so you might have to ask more questions. Staff helpful. Sorry no pictures this time. read more

I don't know if the signage is too small or if I was just too overwhelmed by all the small children in the shop but I was confused about the ordering process. Usually at ice cream shops I order and take the ice cream to the cashier to pay, but it's set up the other way here. I got the cookie monster ice cream sandwich which is pretty massive, in my opinion. The ice cream was pretty good and so were the cookies, but it was difficult to eat as a sandwich because the cookies weren't soft. They weren't hard exactly, but it just didn't work to eat as sandwich especially since there's so much ice cream in it. I opted to eat it with a spoon instead. read more

This sounds like a great idea at first--an ice cream place underneath a club--(Weekend at Bernie's)..but as you are sitting outside and later see cops pull up it might not be the absolute best idea ha. Great for adults, awkward with kids coming in and out while club goers are heading up the side steps with a smoking spot off to the side. The workers were nice and gave HUGE portions. The "espresso bean" ice cream was clearly made with instant coffee which was a let down. He dips the scooped ice cream into the bin of sprinkles immersing his fingers in the process. Somewhere in between, he manages to take his hat off again and rubs his head. I was truly blown away by this ice cream store. I felt like it should be on an upscale shopping street or high end mall. It comes off as a chain because the branding and cleanliness and look were perfectly done. I mean this place was spotless and their brand was spot on. Now about the ice cream - delicious, creamy, and abundant! Many flavors and servings were huge. Prices were cheap - I felt like the sundae (regular size) could have fed 3 people and it was $5!! Homemade hot fudge was like melted real fudge! Delicious! The staff was not overly friendly but "enough" and helpful with questions. The ice cream is O.K.. The customer service was mediocre. I recommend Martels in Saco 5 minutes away instead, where the ice cream is better and so aren't the prices. a "regular" at Big licks is $3.50, which is the equivalent to a Martel's medium, which is only $3.25 and a "Big Lick" is $4.50, whereas Martel's large is only $3.75. Plus Martel's offers a kiddie through large sizes, whereas Big Licks offers only a "regular" and "big lick", if you have children, this is not the place to go, your kids will be wired after having completely filled their stomachs with their "regular" sized cone. read more
