There is a reason that Garside's has been selling ice cream since 1955. That reason is that theie ice cream is amazing! They make it in on-house from quality local ingredients. The young staff was friendly and was working hard on all the orders. The stand is a classic ice cream stand design with plenty of picnic tables, benches, and lots of parking. Everything was neat and tidy. We wish we had gone before September since they're closing for the season at the end of the month. We aim to make one more trip! No pics of the amazing ice cream because we dug into it too fast! read more

Where the locals go, for more than 50 years! You'll feel like it's the 50's when you pull in here. Order the grape nut ice cream, it's literally a New England thing, so freaking good! Hang out on the benches. If you get eaten by mosquitos know that it's a Maine thing too; as authentic as it should be. Tell the friends. Support local...and traditions. read more

Well, I have been wanting to come here all summer. Finally, I had the chance to come for a visit ... and WAS disappointed. I saw the gluten free list of flavors. The list was fine, and I decided on a medium (two scoops). I wanted one scoop for my dog. I asked for orange- pineapple and a scoop of vanilla on the top (she's picky and won't eat "odd" flavors). It came the opposite, with the orange-pineapple on top. I asked for another dish, since there were no gluten free cone options. I scooped the orange into the other bowl and found there was MUCH MORE vanilla (for my tiny 13# dog!) ... and not much of the orange-pineapple for me. The gal was sweet and apologized. When I asked for more of the orange- pineapple, she complied. This was GOOD customer service. * HOWEVER, the orange-pineapple was very soft, and runny like a soft- serve (yuck!) The flavor was good and reminiscent of Bayers Baby Aspirin....yum! * There are no gluten free cones. Very disappointing. * The area is lovely and perfect for sitting and eating a cone...but holy mosquito! Dusk is feeding time! * The gal at the window was a bit, idk, snarky to the other two teens working. "We've got to find another way to do this!" The guy was saying to her, "well, idk, it's really not hard. It doesn't matter." Apparently, things weren't happening the way she felt they should. She was a bit, idk, bossy and I couldn't understand why it was necessary. Maybe she was bothered by my less than immediate order, due to allergies...and asking questions. Regardless, it was unprofessional and the young man and other gal who served me the ice cream were more polite and pleasant. * They DO accept credit cards, that's a GOOD thing! read more

Our favorite ice cream stand in the Saco region. Wave when did the transition from old owner to new owner well, and now they're featuring some fantastic new flavors from time to time. Tonight we tried their peach which was perfect and their pumpkin pie which was marvelous. Lots of good choices, lots of good ice cream, well worth the drive out of Saco toward Camp Ellis. It's a definite New England classic read more

i wont go back, i'm a 72 year old loyal Camp Ellis (very) small business owner and resident that have supported Garsides since Gordon and Mary own it. Today after my 13 mile bike ride i stopped for a bit of ice cream to find i only had $4.00 in my bike bag. the smalls are $5.50. I asked if i could have a baby amount for the $4.00 and all the teen said was sorry but no. unfortunately this is not "Maine the way life should be" that i knew. Come on, $4.00 can't buy a half scoop of ice cream? Again, i won't go back! read more

Garside's Ice Cream is one of those places you have to visit in Southern Maine while enjoying the nice summer weather. Garside's Ice Cream stand (seasonal) is located off the beaten path and has been serving great homemade ice cream for over 50 years bringing in the crowds of loyal customers. This is my favorite stop for ice cream after spending time at OOB, heading back to Route 1. Garside's usually have about 35 or more flavors of ice cream on hand and are always coming up with new flavors each season based on customer input. My favorite flavors are Ginger, Mocha Chip, Swiss Chocolate Almond, Pistachio, and Almond Joy (they ran out last visit). They also make sundaes. banana splits, frappes, floats, ice cream sodas, and freezes. The ice cream is made with very high quality ingredients and has a very creamy and soft texture and the flavors are good and not too heavy. During hot weather, enjoy it fast because the ice cream begins to melt and drip quickly. The price for ice cream starts out at around $3 for a small one scoop cone/dish. Pints, quarts, and half gallons of hand packed ice cream is available. Garside's has very similar ice cream (texture & flavor) to another ice cream stand in Upstate NY called Moxie's (http://www.yelp.com/biz/moxies-ice-cream-wynantskill). There's no table seating, but there are wooden benches on the grass along each side of the unmarked paved parking lot (parking can get dicey when busy). Been a while since. Decided to try again after pandemic. The ice cream is still the best. The flavors are worth the trip. Best of all: the adjustment to open during pandemic. Drive into numbered parking spot. Call on cell phone the number posted everywhere. Place your order. Great coaching from person answering. A few minutes later a person comes to car with tray on which is your order, napkins, eating utensils. Serving person is wearing mask and gloves. Can eat your order in car or on wood benches in front of car, all properly social distances. You must order using cell phone, no service at window. Flavor list on front of building, better yet have menu posted on website. And the phone order taker makes it more fun. Try it, you'll have a story to tell. On your bike, pretend your driving car, pick one of numbered spaces. Place order using cell. Have ordered items brought to you. FAST. Be interesting with hot July evening. The system is well thought out and with children a fun event. And the ice cream is continuing to be terrific. The return of the car hop. Tipping permitted. Dahju from Saco read more

Absolutely delicious ice cream. Creaminess and fresh flavors! Locally owned. Homemade. Wow.

Went here late on Sunday night just before close. Ice cream is absolutely delicious and Price Is very reasonable. Outside Seating area was very clean. Brought home an ice cream for our dog which came with a biscuit on top. read more

I heard they were good. Drive by everyday on my way to work. And they are only a quarter mile from where I'm living. Had all the attributes to make this spot a family local hang for us. We went, we ordered, we ate, and it rocked! The flavor names are kind of fun, but also kind of confusing. Don't be afraid to ask questions. They fun part was the person that was assisting in there got a little confused when I ordered a banana split. Better for us, we got to customize it. They were sweet, we were excited, all the workings for a good family time. The ice creams pretty darn good I must say. Definitely a spot we are going back too. read more

over priced and honestly the ice cream is just not that good.... they lack actual toppings for instance (my cookies and cream had little to no cookies)... I've been living on the Ferry road in Saco for about 15 years now, so I'd say I have some credibility when I say: this place is hella overrated..! plus, their high school employees tend to mess up orders consistently while giving sassy attitudes. I've been coming to Garside's for 30 years and even worked there a few summers during my teenage years. The type of ice cream that stands that dot my childhood memories of summer fun. Not too rich but the flavors are scrumptious.

Very good ice cream with a lot of choices. Great family neighborhood place with friendly service. Their Turttle Sundae is the best.

Generally we love to go to Garside's. The ice cream is usually pretty good. This year, though, we haven't been blown away. Service has been . . . well, it's typical teenager service. They're all probably really nice, but working in an ice cream stand is probably kind of dull, and you can tell they're kind of bored. Also, they say they're open until 10 but were closing up early at about 9 the other night. We didn't realize they were trying to close until after we put in our orders. Naturally we felt kind of bad - but at the same time, it was an hour earlier than their advertised hours. When I asked for an ice cream soda, the girl working the window seemed hassled because she wasn't sure if they had enough soda for it. They did - I guess? - but the soda was flat and flavorless. Not so yummy. And then another time we both ordered M&M ice cream, which was actually peanut butter M&Ms, which the kid asked if was okay - but... it was... disappointing. Anyway - Garside's is generally really good, but the last couple visits have been a bit disappointing. read more

The ice cream is delicious and very reasonably priced. They make the ice cream fresh every morning which makes it unique when compared to the other choices for ice cream in the area. Parking can get a little crazy during busy times since the parking lot is unmarked and people will park wherever they want. Overall, amazing ice cream in a great location right by ferry beach state park! Would recommend to anyone in the mood for ice cream by the beach! read more

Garside's Ice Cream - They had a special "unicorn" flavor at the beginning of the summer season - Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Near Me - Saco, Maine

Good ice cream very high prices. I live down the street and I still find myself often going other places. Worth a try if you are in th

Garsides is dead! Long live the Garsides! Second time there since the new ownership. The staff at the window was pleasant and efficient. That's about all the good I have to say. The place is a construction zone...hopefully temporary. No more benches scattered around the manicured lawn. Just a black tarp strung crookedly against the side of the building covering a gravel pit with some benches. The ice cream, and I use that term loosely, was a gelatinous mass of sugary goo that would not even freeze. The goo was so stiff that it broke a plastic spoon. It wasn't hard like frozen ice cream should be, it was sticky and tough. The taste was like sugar syrup (probably some sort of malt or fructose syrup from the taste and texture) with watery finish. I tried the "Nutty Fudge" which was neither nutty nor particularly fudgey. It tasted like that really cheap waxy Easter candy you get at the dollar store three months after Easter. You know the kind, 5lb bag for a buck. Bottom line: I paid $4.25 for chance to feed the trash bin. I miss the real Garsides. I don't know what this place is, but it ain't Garsides. read more

Great location and the chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwiches are a plus. Plenty of parking but the menu is limited - they have the basics and nothing too exciting or featured favors of the week or month as other places may have. When visiting for Labor Day weekend the menu was very limited as they were out of multiple ice cream flavors - when asking for two scoops I received one it seems like they were rationing ice cream to last the remainder of the season. I heard the same from other groups when visiting. read more

They charged me $2.25 extra for a small ice cream which is usually 3 dollars and they charged me $5.25 which is the price of a large and that made me mad Bc I'm under 15 and I don't have much money so then I paid my extra for my small ice cream got it and sat down then I was eating it and then I found sum hair in my ice cream which is just gross. I've gone to Garside's my whole life but it's been different and not as good since the new owner and staff came in the staff has no clue what they are doing at all and charge extra so they don't have to take time outta their day to look at the menu to see the real price. We come to Saco once a year from Texas where we know great ice cream. This place is super authentic and charming, nothing fussy or pretentious. The flavors that they make on site are great, especially the Butter Crunch. What a great variety. Something for everyone! We come with our entire family and love it! We don't even get to the picnic tables before the treats are all gone! A MUST family tradition for us and a great simpler, back-in-time experience that everyone should get the chance to enjoy. read more
