It's in a big old joint with a huge koi pond out front. The menu consists of meat, hash ,slaw and tater salad. Everything comes with a half loaf of white bread and yucky b&b pickles. The meat is great, the hash is good. They have 3 sauces. Hot= way too hot, Vinegar= too vinegary and the house which is carolina style. Good but thin. The odd thing is that all of the waitresses were dressed like Holly Hobby. Had dinner here for the first time tonight with my wife and sister in law and brother in law. Food was great, more than we could eat and the service was wonderful. Hands down my favorite BBQ place in Augusta. The plates here are huge so go with a empty stomach bc your going to want to eat everything they have. I usually get the BBQ plate with double order of there hash and rice and a sweet tea. The staff here are the nicest and most personable around. This place is all about pork, pulled pork, and just about any kind of pig you can imagine. I gained 5 pounds just looking at the menu. The pork came out soft and fresh, making me immediately think about how long ago the poor pig had been slaughtered. But good lord, it was delicious. My only qualm was that their three sauces were rather similar in consistency and taste (kind of vinegary and salty). The food was mediocre, but I guess for the south I should have expected these types of dishes. I was expecting juicy BBQ. I may live in Northern California, but I grew up in Alaska, so I love my meat. They promptly seated our large party of 17 people (we had a reservation) with no issue. The service was very prompt and friendly. The food was okay to me. It wasn't bad, but it didn't quite live up to the hype I anticipated. I had the call turkey plate, which was plenty enough for me and I even had some to take back tot he hotel for next day's lunch. The turkey was good, the coleslaw okay. I did not touch the hash because of what I've heard about hash in general. No thank you. A couple of people in our party ordered some extra food to go and it came out packaged and ready to go in a hurry. I liked the way you pay your bill. We all had separate tickets which we took the register. Much easier for a larger group. The highlight was when the owner gave us a personal tour of the pit. He was incredibly friendly. This is one of those restaurants were you either love it or absolutely hate it. It is along the lines traditional South Carolina/Georgia barbecue. The traditionalist down here like hash and vinegar-based barbecue. If you've never had hash, you need to try to at least once, but it's not for everyone. The vinegar-based barbecue's are also not for everyone. That being said, expect a big helping portion of the hash and only vinegar-based sauces for the barbecue. I think some of the negative reviews are definitely spot on if that's your style. But to be fair, there are a lot of people that like this food. The lines for takeout speak to those people. Hands down, the best BBQ of my life since I moved to Augusta, GA in 1989... My menu choice....small plate of chopped beef ( has a sweet flavor), potato salad..to die for, and hash, can't eat much hash and rice but still tasty. The ribs are awesome..the restaurant is worth the drive to South Augusta. Huge log cabin feel, rustic with a bridge, pond, ducks, and fish. Just really cute. Kids love it. On weekends, I have seen bluegrass bands play live. Takes me back to my childhood in the mountains of NC :) The sauces are so good on the table and the service is great. Sweet pickles, yes.. Lived here for years before I went. I always went to the buffet barbeque places and thought pay per plate, pfft, that won't be enough. Oh but it is. The main bbq plate is huge, great for a big guy. The smaller one is what I get now so I don't feel so stuffed. The meat is great and the potato salad is pretty decent. The owner is there a lot and takes pride in the place. A lot of people eat there. I only wish it was open more days of the week. I have to say, I don't like the uniforms. I feel sorry for the ladies who have to wear that. I ordered about 15 dinners for the crew at the paper mill in Augusta and this was probably the worst BBQ I have ever had, plus the fact they screwed the order up by not including a pork sandwich that was ordered. We went to eat here after reading some reviews while in town for the masters. I have had the best dishes from BBQ places all over the country and I'll say my experience here ranked up there with some of the best. Very quick service. Reasonable prices and great food. The chicken was very flavorful and moist. The ribs were just as I had hoped and were full of flavor and fell off the bone. The shredded/pulled beef and pork were great and their sauces, especially the vinegar sauce, were excellent. I didn't have much as far as sides go but there cole slaw was pretty standard, just ok, and the hash that comes with the meals I though was just ok also. If you are in town for the masters this place is definitely worth visiting. read more

If you like Georgia-Carolina barbecue, this place might be for you. I personally found it to be very bland (void of any flavor and dry) and the hash to be pretty terrible. Sauce selection is also pretty terrible. Hope you like your food served with constant reminders that you're in the south from the old-time-y attire to visuals of a certain flags attributed to southern "pride". My husband had been away for nearly two months doing Army training. He called to say he was an hour out at 5pm...We had both been wanting to try Sconyers so I thought that take out from there would be an awesome idea....I ordered the Plantation Platter, this is a lot of food, and you get a sample of everything. I1/4 chicken, chopped pork and beef, 2 ribs, potato salad and half a plate of hash on rice. I also ordered the turkey breast. The chopped pork was kind of blah...the ribs were pretty good, the turkey breast was awesome..we had so much that we couldn't eat the chicken that night...and it did not weather so well in the fridge, it was really dry. Their sauces were ok. I fell in love with that hash, which is a miracle because i tried hash around Columbia sc and it was really gross, so i went in with a negative attitude of hash, and wow was i pleased to be wrong. We got our moneys worth, and we will be looking forward to a dine in with Sconyers soon. read more
