Scoma's. Had the SF Restaurant Week Lunch Special with clam chowder (excellent, creamy and full of clams) and Linguine with clams. Also ordered calamari and shrimp cocktail for the table. Bread was crunchy on outside and soft in inside and the butter seemed housemade with a bit of a tang to it. Service and ambiance was excellent, very old school. Some of the bay and city was visible from our table. Cracked pepper was offered for the clam chowder and as much fresh grated Parmesan as you'd like for the pasta. Exquisite! Excellente! Complimentary valet parking was excellent and made visiting a breeze!
Our go to while in San Francisco. Delicious fresh seafood. The restaurant has been in business decades and it is old school attentive great service. It's tucked away on a spit of land surrounded by the harbor with fishing boats across from fish companies on one side and fisherman's wharf on the other. Kudos to the chef for the amazing fish. The black cod was the best we've ever had- the shrimp was grilled to perfection! A wonderful spicy margarita topped our delicious memorable meal! Thanks Scoma!
We ate at Scoma's **three times during our 11-day San Francisco vacation**, which probably says more than anything else about how much we enjoyed it. I had the clam chowder twice, and it was just perfect--creamy, with lots of clams and potatoes. And then there is the **Boudin sourdough bread**, with that wonderful, distinctive "sour" flavor that seems to be missing from so many sourdough breads these days. One evening, we shared the **Mixed Seafood Grill**, which was amazing: wild-caught shrimp and three kinds of fresh fish--black cod, halibut, and salmon--served with salad and fresh vegetables. We started with the organic beet salad, with both red and gold beets. On another visit, I had the **Dungeness crab cake appetizer with a bowl of clam chowder**, which made a delicious and surprisingly hearty dinner. I was lucky enough to have **Tom as our waiter twice**, and he won my heart with a small act of kindness. At the end of dinner, I asked if he could wrap up my two remaining pieces of sourdough bread. When I opened the package later, I discovered he had tucked in a few extra pieces for me. I brought them home and was able to enjoy a little taste of San Francisco for several more days. Thank you, Tom! I also love that Scoma's hasn't tried to turn itself into another sleek, modern restaurant. The **old-school, vintage 1960s-1970s atmosphere** is part of its charm: waiters in white jackets, dark wood paneling, brown leather or vinyl seating, brass details, warm amber-glass lighting, wrought-iron dividers, and crisp white tablecloths. Walking into Scoma's feels a little like stepping back in time. For me, it was even more special because it brought back memories of **California days with my family when I was growing up**. Wonderful seafood, warm hospitality, sourdough that actually tastes sour, and an atmosphere with a real sense of history. There is a reason we came back three times.
Went here after a bay cruise for lunch. I like the wharf atmosphere and the view. Calamari was excellent the fish and chips was good but would have preferred Halibut. Fresh pickles were really good. Only thing I didn't like was the modified Mai Tai called a Mai Tardi- the Frangelico ruined this drink.
I haven't been here in more than a decade and it's exactly how I remember it and better. In a day where big cooperate and franchises are taking over. It's nice to see a place like this still exist, and still remains amongst the top of the top. We were greeted immediately by the complimentary valet. And we couldn't believe that. Free parking in the city, get out of here! The service inside was exceptional too. They thanked us for being patient, and apologized for the wait. And we were like "It's completely fine, we are walk-ins". We started off with drinks and muscles at the old school long bar. Then before we knew it we got called for a table. Everyone that passed us, asked us if we were enjoying our food and drinks. Like not only our server but all the servers and managers. I have never gotten so much attention and care at a restaurant. The way they care about people here is outstanding. So amazing in a world where kiosks and robots are replacing everything, it makes you feel like you're going back in time. To a time where things like integrity, quality, and experience mattered. The food was divine. The clam chowder made my eyes water. Sooo good. And the steamed muscles were exquisite, so tender! And I have never had a flounder sandwich so soft and buttery in all my life. On the way out I asked a Manager where the bathroom was, she said "oh I'll show you" with a smile. We got to talking I told her how much I love this place. And turns out she is Sancia Scoma! Al Scoma's daughter. The original owner! He established the restaurant in 1965! I took a picture with her, I was so stoked. Her family is legendary, and it was like meeting a celebrity. She is really keeping the place alive. Updating things like seasonal veggies but still keeping the same traditional Sicilian recipes of her grandmother going strong. This place is right on the water. It's so cool to sit inside or outside, and get a view of the water and the busy life on the warf. All of the old photos on the walls are really so cool, and such a trip to look at. Maybe next time I'll sneak my picture on the wall with Sancia Scoma. When I googled top best seafood in San Francisco, Scoma's was on the top ten list, but not at the very top. They are wrong!!! It should be at the very top. And remains #1 in my book!
Came here after a hike for lunch and waited about 30 minutes for an outdoor table. The waterfront setting made the wait worthwhile and added to the relaxing atmosphere. Once seated, I was craving oysters, and this place delivered. The calamari was fresh and crispy with just the right amount of batter. The vongole pasta was flavorful, but my favorite was the creamy risotto with perfectly cooked scallops. The cioppino was also delicious, and a glass of wine made the meal even better. Service was attentive throughout, making for an enjoyable dining experience and giving me another reason to return.
Stopped into Scoma's for a light bite and a drink. The beet salad was simple and tasty, and the clam chowder was classic and good. Neither dish was particularly memorable, but we enjoyed both. The espresso martini was delicious, and the bartenders were super friendly! The sand dabs and some of the other dishes we saw looked really good, but we weren't hungry enough for a full meal. Would be curious to come back with a bigger appetite and try more of the menu. This place was highly recommended by a few people I know.
Sarah, Sean and Jose provided excellent, friendly and attentive service. Everything on the menu is fresh and delicious. High energy vibe in a classic seafood eatery. Scoma's is an institution and a neighborhood gem!

This is an SF staple located literally on the water (pier) down near Ghirardelli square. This is where you come if you're craving that "SF seafood experience". Service is top tier and I love the nostalgia of the waiter uniforms. Anywhere that starts off with bread is a great choice for me, and this place doesn't disappoint with that. There are a ton of great dishes here but I would stick with the seafood (since that's the whole point) for the most part. I got the shrimp bisque and salmon - I have had better salmon before but the soup was amazing. We also had the fish three ways and the calamari - both great options. I will say that our waiter was hilarious and really rounded out our experience. The views weren't so bad, either. For dessert- get that 5-layer chocolate cake and you can thank me later. Parking sucks for the most part in this part of town (since it's mostly a touristy area) but valet is available.
We couldn't walk through Fisherman's Wharf without going to iconic Scoma's. We were not hungry but went anyways and ordered the $30 crab cocktail and a coke! It hit! The also provided complimentary bread and whipped butter. Fresh crab with cocktail sauce was a great mid afternoon snack. Super fresh!! The server was so pleasant and customer service oriented. I love how Scoma's has their fish arriving station right off the marina - you know you are eating fresh fish!
I stopped by on a weekday for lunch. I went for a couple of lunch specials. Pacific snapper with spaetze was my favorite item. Dungeness petite crab Louis was a close second. It was on the lighter side. Clam chowder and Organic roasted beet salad were my sides, and both were good. All the seafood I had here was fresh.
The food, service, atmosphere and location are outstanding. It's a little difficult to find, slightly out of the way at the end of a pedestrian street, but it is a renowned restaurant, so anyone asked should be able to help.

The pasta I ordered wasn't fully cooked, and no one came to check on it--I was very disappointed. The service was merely average, but considering that most of the staff were older, I didn't mind the occasional oversight and ended up leaving a generous tip. The atmosphere is great, and there are many historical photos on the walls. read more
San Francisco is known for many foods. One type of food which is well renowned in the city is their seafood. There are many places you can grab seafood around San Francisco. One place where people from around the world enjoy the taste of San Francisco seafood is Fisherman's Wharf. There is a San Francisco institution which been serving seafood for over 60 years. It's located a stones throw from the salty water in SF and it's called Scoma's. On the last full week of the Summer stroll on Al Scoma Way I landed again at Scoma's. I first tried the oysters without the lemon squeeze along with the shrimp. I then had the clam chowder with pepper which wasn't salty like some in SF. I then had their Fried combo which wild gulf shrimp, scallops and wild cod with fries which weren't salty like some in SF. Then I had their whole Dungeness crab with garlic. I then washed it down with glasses of Pinot Noir from a French owner vineyard in Oregon. Scoma's is a San Francisco institution worth revisiting. Come to a place which brings the old San Francisco and makes me "nostalgic" a place by Fisherman's Wharf San Francisco natives mostly "all pick " a few blocks from a Park called "Aquatic" you must try their Dungeness Crab seasoned in "garlic" You can find Seafood from the Sunset Strip of San Francisco all the way to "SOMA" you can smell the seafood "aroma"and enjoy some wine like the Pinot Noir from the Willamette Valley of Oregon to "Sonoma" you will find it by the salty waters in SF at "Scoma" read more
Classic SF restaurant with reminiscing of a mafia movie scene...Old school servers with slick back hair taking your order created the perfect waterside dining vibe...excellent service... - "Lazy Man's" Cioppino: most delicious all around in my humble opinion. Easily rivals and beats the "Uncle's spot" from the central coast. I never knew I need pre peel Dungeness crabmeat in my life. Perfectly blends w/ scallops, shrimp, clams, mussels, calamari, and market fish, served in "Mama" Scoma's tomato broth. A perfect seafood mouthful of happinesss..... -Calamari Fritti: was delicious and an excellent starter. Batter and fried to perfection. House tartar sauce complimented the tentacles perfectly. -Beer Battered Fish 'N' Chips - took a bite or two from the kid's meal.... we both agreed, it was that good.... -Organic Beet Salad (GF V) - No comments....LOL...J/K...wifey said it was good.... -Smoked Maple Old Fashioned: where's the smoke...tasted good, but didn't see nor tasted the smoke...had to order a 2nd to confirm there was no smoke...LOL -VERDICT: I guess I been missing out as I just "POP-my-Scoma's Cherry"......will for sure be back read more

Here's a polished Yelp review that captures your experience while keeping it warm and authentic: Scoma's has been one of my favorite restaurants in San Francisco for years, so on a recent trip from my home in Las Vegas, it was at the top of my list. As always, the meal was outstanding. The cioppino was absolutely delicious, and no visit is complete without their incredible sourdough bread. It's one of those restaurants that never disappoints. The part that really earned this five-star review happened after I got home. I realized I'd accidentally left my reading glasses at the restaurant. I called to see if they had found them, and they had. I asked if they would be willing to mail them back to me in Las Vegas, and without hesitation, they did. It may seem like a small gesture, but it wasn't something they had to do. It showed they genuinely care about their guests long after the meal is over. Great food is expected at Scoma's. Great service like this is what creates lifelong customers. Thank you, Scoma's, for another wonderful experience--and for going the extra mile. I'll be back the next time I'm in San Francisco. read more

Let's start by saying this. The food and experience was worth every penny! Sean made sure that our entire evening was top notched in service, ambiance, friendliness and tastummylicious food! The restaurant is on the water and gives you the old skool ITALIAN family ristorante that all the celebrities visit. We were laughing and enjoying eachother's company as Sean joined our conversations. Spacing was very comfortable and intimate at the same time. Parking is the absolute best! Complimentary valet service! All the side dishes, fried zucchini, calamari, clam chowder and oysters were fresh, well seasoned and absolutely fantastic. The lychee martini, Mai Tardi, amaretto sour and Shirley Temple were perfectly balanced with alcohol and mixes. Wagyu! Perfectly medium rare and seasoned. Tender enough to be cut by a fork! We special ordered a side of lemon butter scallops which were succulent and flavorful. Perfectly cooked. Even the roasted potatoes were yummy! Puttanesca...ohhhh wowza! Perfection! Zesty, with a kick and tangy sauce... Filled to the rim with seafood! Greatly sauced and firm noodles. Wild black cod was extremely flavorful with a tomato sauce over cauliflower and yumminess! The desserts definitely took care of our sweet teeth! The lemon tart was the perfect sweet/tart combo. The dessert bites have us the best of all worlds. The spumoni gave us the perfect chill and creamy factor. This was a magnificent evening and great way to celebrate our daughter's birthday and our wedding anniversary! read more

Stopped in for a solo lunch at the bar on a Monday afternoon. Douglas at the bar provided excellent service and friendly conversation! The lunch special was great - I got the clam chowder & Dungeness Petite Crab Louis salad, both of which I enjoyed and recommend. Looking forward to coming back to try their dinner menu! read more
Came in for a late lunch on the recommendation of an acquaintance. Party of 4 and got seated right away, not very busy. Our server wasn't the friendliest person I've ever met for sure but I think perhaps it was nothing personal, just his personality maybe??? It did take a good while to get our order taken, we actually even mentioned perhaps we should leave. My husband finally decided, maybe it's the type of restaurant you're supposed to go slow and not rush. They serve sourdough bread which was fresh and amazing. We got the truffle fries appetizer, that was pretty good. The spicy chicken sandwich was said to be the best ever. The fish and chips were good thought quite thick which did leave a couple mushy spots, had quite a lot of breading, but probably a 7/10 if we were scoring. Overall not a bad place to eat. read more

Scoma's is a historic and classic SF restaurant located out on a pier at Fisherman's Wharf. The service by the long time staff is friendly, prompt and helpful. The drinks are poured professionally and heavy. The food is classic SF at its very best. Last evening I ordered the special mixed grill of Cod, Halibut, Salmon and Shrimp and each one was flavored differently and prepared to perfection. Instead of a bed of delicious grains, I asked for sautéed spinach which made the entire meal no carb and high flavor. Scoma's is a place I visit every time I make my way to San Francisco and I am never disappointed read more

Wow, it's been a minute since we've been to Fisherman's Wharf and a first for Scoma's Restaurant. Over the years we've heard so many beautiful family stories from Scoma's and heartfelt traditions with this spot. This year, we created a tradition of our own and had quite an epic time. With complimentary valet parking and interior/exterior seating, I knew we were off to the right track. We didn't have a reservation, and truly got lucky on a Saturday early evening (although it was around 5:30pm). There is a cable car stop in Fisherman's Wharf as well that is only a few blocks out from this Scoma's location. I love the look/feel of this spot. It's def old school and has a great cocktail/bev menu. We ordered the Crispy Zucchini with Marinara and Parmesan to start, the Iceberg Wedge Salad, and a few cups of the Scoma's Famous Clam Chowder. Make sure to get table sourdough to dip in like, everything! Our main orders were the 'Lazy Man's' Cioppino (essentially with the crabmeat already pulled/no cracking), the Fried Wild Gulf Shrimp, the Gulf Shrimp Lumachini, and the Grilled Pacific Rock Cod for the kiddo with a side of polenta vs. fries. Wowee, we did well! Drink wise we enjoyed the Smoked Maple Old Fashioned and wine with dinner, would love to come back and try the Scoma's Vintage Eggnog and oysters to start. For such a large establishment, the service was quick and fun ~ much appreciated all the additional love/patience for the kiddo. I almost forgot, we also ordered the Torta Setteveli (seven layer cake) for dessert and that was so delicious..with a praline crunch on the bottom..divine! Def a spot to have your attire and wallet size a bit more elevated, but everything went so smoothly. All the dishes from start to finish were fresh, flavorful, and hearty. Nostalgic vibes for sure, with really cool SF heritage and nodes to restaurant guests from Hollywood adorning the walls. Can't wait to one day return again soon! read more

I was craving a cozy Old School dining experience for my birthday and Scoma's delivered!! I wanted a place on Fisherman's Wharf that wasn't too trendy and was easy to find and park! We were so delighted when we drove down Scoma Lane and discovered that they have Valet Parking right by the restaurant (there is no charge, just leave a good tip for this valuable service!) We had made early reservations, since we were in the neighborhood seeing an art exhibit at the Legion of Honor, and could enjoy the scenic drive across town to the Wharf. We were welcomed heartily and given the choice of a dining room table, or a view table, so we opted for the view! We were immediately greeted by out friendly and enthusiastic server, Heather, who explained the menu and the specials. I had studied the menu ahead, delighted in the range of classic Italian dishes, and family favorites that even kids could enjoy! I chose the Linguine con Vongole, one of my go to dishes. My husband went for the grilled salmon with quinoa, a hearty choice. I also got a glass of Sauvignon Blanc, (rare at Italian restaurants) and my husband got a ginger ale from the full bar. The striped Manila clams were exquisite, enrobed in a delicate garlic sauce and mounted on a bed of pasta. The salmon was perfectly grilled and complemented by the quinoa. San Francisco is so beautiful that it casts a relaxing spell over you while you take it all in. We had both lived in San Francisco before and we love sharing out memories of the place. When I mentioned that it was my birthday, the waitress disappeared for a moment and returned with some scrumptious salted caramel gelato. So far just the soup has come and incredibly disappointed! $14.00 for a bowl that is insanely shallow and then they only fill it half way?? Was more like the amount of soups that could have fit in a small water glass. I guess if I want good clam chowder and an amount worth the price I have to head over to Sam's Chowder house in Half Moon Bay. Strike 2 - I know this is mainly a seafood restaurant but only one small steak option for us meat eaters?? Oh, except for the burger and the spaghetti bolognese.. Came here many years ago and just like most of San Francisco unfortunately this restaurant has gone downhill fast! So the steak came and unfortunately while the serving size was ok, not at all medium rare like I ordered. Much closer to medium if not bordering on medium well. Taste of the steak was mediocre at best. Was supposed to have garlic gutter on it and if it was there m, I couldn't tell from the taste. My wife and I decided to visit San Francisco last Sunday because we haven't been there in a while and it was such a beautiful day. So we took the ferry from Jack London Square and what a great day. We wanted to visit fishermen's wharf to see what they've they done and it was very disappointing. Alioto's is gone and Tarintino's is gone and everything that made that area fun and exciting and such an amazing place to eat is gone. We wanted to see if Scoma's was still there and ah, yes it is. We've been going there since the late 70's and it's the same as it has always been. Quaint, great views , and excellent service. The food was good and things really haven't changed. Our server "Sonny" was attentive, professional and an excellent waiter. We had calamari as an appetizer and it was good but a little greasy. Our salad which was the beet salad with oranges, avacado, mixed greens, was excellent. For our main course we had the mixed grill with grill veggies with black cod, salmon, and halibut. It was very good though the fish portions were a little small. We also had their clam chowder which we enjoyed the most. If you want to experience San Francisco " how it used to be" then I would suggest giving Scomas a try. The prices were reasonable and the food was good. That's why we keep going back!!! read more

We went there today as a walk-in and were greeted and seated right away. The ambiance of the restaurant gives you the feeling that this is a place with a long, well-established history. The chairs are comfortable and swivel side to side, making it easy to sit down and get up. We both ordered the two-course lunch special. I had the beet salad and snapper, while my friend ordered the clam chowder and shrimp pasta. My salad and fish were both fresh and delicious. The clam chowder and shrimp pasta were also very tasty. I was truly impressed by how fresh everything was. The waiter was very friendly and super helpful, especially in letting us know that the crab was not from today's catch. I was hoping to try their tiramisu, but I was so full--I'll have to save it for next time. read more

This oldie but goodie was the thing I needed to bring me back home and with the Christmas spirit. I went here with my family and the experience is always lovely. The staff is warm and kind the lovely esthetic and ambience transports you back in time. The drinks were great and the food always makes me come back for more. I will always return for their Cioppino was fresh and delicious. All the seafood really had great flavor. Wine recommendations were great as always. I will forever recommend this place. Came out with some coworkers when we were in town for a tradeshow. This was a solid place. We started with a few drinks at the bar while we waited for our full party. The staff was fantastic! They answered all of our questions about the menu and made recommendations. The menu was very clearly marked for allergens which is always a plus for me! I ordered the shrimp cocktail and a filet minion. The shrimp was sadly just okay and wasn't fully deveined so I had to do some of my own cleaning which I don't love. We came into the city on a Sunday night. We did make reservations in advance since they tend to book up. We came a little early and were seated quickly in the bar area. This is a family favorite with core memories from childhood for my partner - so it is a must do! Founded in 1965, it is located on the pier and has free valet parking. The wait staff are all dressed in old school white jackets and a lot have been there for years which adds to the experience. We were lucky as it was restaurant week and we were able to enjoy a four course meal with appetizers, salad, entree and desserts. We had the crab cakes appetizer, Brussel sprout salad, Black Cod a la Calabrese and Wild Gulf Shrimp and Scallops a la Gannon for entrees. We had the dessert bites of Mini Cannoli, Chocolate-Rum Truffle, and Biscotti. They sold out of the tiramisu so we had the Torta Setteveli (Seven Layer Cake) and all were on point with flavor and quality as well as delicious! While hanging around Pier 39, my wife and I asked a bunch of locals where we should go for the best clam chowder. Everyone said Scoma's at Fisherman's Wharf. They did not disappoint. I always look forward to my trip to Scoma's. A staple for me the last 40 years has been the amazing Crab Louie Salad. This week I stopped in with a friend and ordered my usual: Crab Louie Salad (1/2 Lb of crab)! To my disappointment, there was crab and shrimp and not a 1/2 lb. It was ok but really wanted the crab. The waiter said he made a mistake and didn't charge me for my beer. $70+ for a salad should come as ordered. :( read more
