This was a business I would patronize regularly for for their tasty pastrami and corned beef sandwiches but alas, all good things must come to an end. The owner is usually there making sandwiches but today I got "the kids". I'm sure they meant well but they dropped the ball with the sandwich action. What is normally a sandwich a grown man could barely finish is now half the size and ridiculously packaged with paper and a rubber band. OMG! We were visiting our daughter and her family in Whitmore Lake and I was hungry for a good deli, but didn't want the local ones close by because frankly, they are good, but expensive also. So, using my Yelp app I went looking and came upon Schwartz's Delicatessen and I am so glad that I drove the 25 minutes there and back, because it was almost as good as our old favorite in California called Brent's Deli! I ordered the pastrami sandwich, number 4, and it was piled so high that I had to stretch my jaw open to eat it! The pastrami was tender and so flavorful that it didn't needed anything else except for their delicious rye bread! My wife ordered the number 13, "Junior's Turkey Special" and she to literally take some meat off and save it for another meal because it was also piled so high! It's a small, what I like to call mom & pop deli, which surprised the heck out of me when I drove up and found it! I will definitely return to Schwartz's again on our next trip to visit our grandkids! Maybe next time I won't gobble it down before I take some pictures!! read more

What an incredible deli!!! I mean like this place is so close to New York I swear the co-owner even talks with a New York accent!!! LOL-but the best thing, they make a MEAN deli sandwich. The meat is stacked high-No way could you get your mouth wrapped around it to take a bite out of it..... my method was to deconstruct the sandwich a little bit. We tried Mikey's Corned Beef Special which is mile high corned beef, piled onto lightly grilled rye bread add fresh coleslaw and Swiss cheese and then schmear it with a delicious Russian Dressing. We also tried an all time favorite - #31 Matt's Reuben with Hot Corned Beef on Grilled Rye with Melted Swiss Cheese, Russian Dressing and Sauerkraut hot Ruben with corn beef, sauerkraut and cheese both lightly grilled on some delicious rye bread. One of my dining partners ordered the Forman's Option which consisted of Homemade Chicken Salad on Rye with Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato, American Cheese and Mayo. The above sandwiches also took a lot of creativity to arrange your mouth to be able to get a bite containing everything!! However it was more than worth the trouble!!! They have tasty fresh old and new dill pickles. They come with each sandwich. You can also add the chips and drink combo for a very reasonable $2.00. Speaking of reasonable, there is a famous delicatessen in Ann Arbor that charges about three times what Schwartz's delicatessen sandwiches cost and frankly they were just as good. It's no wonder this is the number one deli in the area. It's a very casual ambience however as you will see in the pictures they put fresh flowers on every table, it's little touches like this that make a family owned and operated business very enticing. All of the staff at this establishment are very customer service focused! They are friendly and helpful too. I am so glad that I found this spot. It's been a long time since I've been to Schwartz delicatessen I went there last when they were still at the old location. I grew up in the east and had the opportunity to try some of the best delicatessens in New York City and throughout New England. Schwartz is as good as any place in the east. OMG are you kidding me with this!!!! Unreal, just top notch. I had this placed bookmarked for a while, and finally got to come in. Boy did I regret waiting so long. Had the #3 Pastrami, slaw, russian, swiss, on rye. I subbed in a Onion Roll, and asked for it grilled. Extra russian on the side. One bite, and I stood up and ordered another to go. The slaw was crisp, not too creamy and not to tangy. His russian dressing is addictive, and thick. Loved the old and new dill, quality. Homemade chicken noodle soup was perfection. Chunks of shredded tender chicken that was clearly made with care. Well balance broth, not overly salty. First time in a long time I did a sandwich / soup combo as it's not usually my thing and I was so happy. I also got a #1 to go, which is corned beef, slaw, russian, on rye. I'm usually a Pastrami guy all day, I love it and it's great here, but the corned beef was even better. The corned beef flavor lingered in the back of your mouth even after the falvor of swiss, slaw, and russian faded away. I've had Sy Ginsberg's corned beef before, but never in sandwich form. Mother of god. For those not in the know Sy Ginsberg's corned beef is from United Meat and Deli out of Detroit, it is ridiculously good. Schwartz's is all Detroit / Michigan, serving up Faygo products, better made potato chips, Detroit meats, and bread from Southfield's BakeStation.
