Talk about a happy accident!! I visited Schussboom Brewing Co. with my daughter today, and it was a fantastic experience! The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and it's clear they've thought of everything to make it family‑friendly. Beer: We tried the Spa Lager -- an American lager infused with cucumber and lemon -- and it was absolutely delicious. Light, crisp, and super refreshing. They have a full line up and also offer flights. Definitely have to check out others next time I visit. Food: For lunch, we shared the "Go To Pizza" and their Tatanka wings -- both were flavorful and came out hot and fresh, a real step up from typical brewery bites. Extra Perks: One of the coolest things is their outdoor garden area, which seems perfect for larger gatherings. They also have a rooftop space and a dedicated kids' area with kid‑friendly shows -- a huge plus for families. Events: They offer daily events, and we saw they have a fun lineup coming up -- including a singles night, a Mother's Day brunch, and they even serve breakfast. We have been visiting Schussboom for years, it is one of our favorites(especially after a big ski day at Mt.Rose) in Reno. Staff is consistently wonderful, food is unique and yummy, beer is great, the kid zone is a special bonus, and we love all of the community events we have been able to attend. We hosted a party in their upstairs outdoor patio area, it was such a special spot to celebrate with spectacular views. The manager assisting us through the planning process was really accommodating and great to work with. Food came out hot and delicious, our guests loved everything. Keep up the great work! read more

Schussboom is such a great place. I know it may be hard to imagine that there is a gold-winning World Beer Cup brewery in Reno, but here it is. Top-tier microbrews that rotate frequently. The owner will even show the hops they use if you are lucky enough to be there when they come in. I can attest personally the hops are green, fresh, and pungent. Jacob just brought me Safety Meeting ver 4.20 and a I Chit You Not. So good. The food is great. My go-tos are the barbecue wings, yuppie pizza, and focaccia. Whatever you do, do not get the Gorgonzola fondue--they are too good, and it's not fair for a place to serve something that delicious. Lastly, I have to mention the music. On some days, like today (Tuesday), Carly plays modern indie rock. I Shazam here and play the music at other bars like a DJ hero. read more

I met a few friends to catch up on a Thursday night. We hadn't seen each other for awhile so this was a great spot for us to meet up for a drink and have some food. The bar was fairly full, but not so busy that it was loud or overcrowded. The main seating area had plenty of spots left even with a number of groups enjoying their evening. We grabbed the end a of table for our group of four. I had a cider and the Mexican loaded tots. The cider was crisp and refreshing, not too tart and not too sweet. It hit that perfect spot right inbetween. The tots were warm and crispy, loaded with chorizo, pickled onions, sour cream, cilantro, jalapeños, and Cotija. The menu is fairly large and has a good selection of dishes that should accommodate just about anyone. The drink menu is even larger! Lots of in-house made brews and a couple ciders are listed on the menu screens. The bar can make just about anything else you may desire. If you want a great place to chill with some drinks and great food on the south side of town, check it out. read more

Another 5 star visit to Schussboom, it's just the absolute best. Extremely friendly staff, kick ass pizza, killer beers, and amazing sides to much on. My friend and I went here a week ago. It was our first time. The hilarious part of this story is that we were meeting a friend, who flew in from Dallas, and he had been to Schussboom Brewing on a previous trip to Reno. While my friend and I, who live here, had never been! Anyway, we rectified that. I apologize for no pics. The restaurant is big and open, and friendly. You order drinks and food at the cash register, then find a table and wait for your food and drinks to get called. Drinks you pick up near the cashier / bar area and food you pick up in the back of the restaurant near the kitchen. Both the food and the drinks were amazingly delicious. My Greek Salad was one of the best ever. And the beers, yum! Pizzas are a popular choice here, and the restaurant was packed with people and families. My best friend and I came here for their monthly "Off the App and Into the Tap" last Tuesday. This was our first singles event we have both ever been to. It was nice having a friend for something like this. It was quite busy! Lots of people, more women than men to be honest. You come in and you show your purchase of tickets or purchase tickets at the door. You are told to put on a name tag and are given a free drink ticket for a complimentary "confidence shot." They had pizza and salad in the back. You were welcome to buy additional drinks at the bar or counter. They had some small little ice breaker activities (cootie catchers) and also beer pong, flip cup, and corn hole. This is quickly becoming one of my and my husbands favorite place in town. We tried it on a whim 2 months ago and have been coming back every couple of weeks since. The food is delicious with a variety of bar style options that are reasonably priced. The drinks are AMAZING. I'm not much of a beer drinker myself, and am very pleased with the variety and quality of the cocktails they offer. My husband loves their beer selection and the indoor/outdoor ambiance. The staff is always friendly and quick. You will be seeing us a lot more, especially as the summer rolls in. This is such a chill and relaxed environment. I like that we could keep our tab open not only for drinks, but also for food. When my friend and I got there, we ordered drinks and an appetizer, chatted for some time, then got back up and ordered dinner & more drinks. It was nice not having a server and picking up the food from the counter because we did not feel rushed to leave and we weren't interrupted by anyone. The food was very, very good. My friend had the focaccia grilled cheese and said it was delightful. I had the buffalo chicken sandwich. It was the perfect amount of spice and the Gorgonzola & blue cheese dressing paired nicely with the hotness of the buffalo. We had the Banana Hammock beer which was excellent. We had the Sticky Yaki Wings which rocked. And then we come to the Barbie Q pizza, what a disappointment!!!!!! Look at the pictures from the menu and the pathetic pizza they charged us $23.00 for. Did they wave the barbecue sauce over it ? Did the roasted chicken run away?. Schussboom, just right next to our neighborhood and boy is it GOOD. My favorite beer is the Banana Hammock Hefe, which if you're wanting to try it - I highly recommend it. Additionally, you can't go wrong with any of their food choices. Our office typically caters their pizzas so they are all solid recommendations. Pictured in this review are the Asian Persuasion Wrap with a side Greek salad, the chicken tenders and tots, both were delicious! But also, get the kids quesadilla with chicken, it's WONDERFUL. The ambiance is like a ski lodge, so even during the summers, if you're reminiscing being up on the slopes, you can come here to get the vibe. The food was good, but not spectacular. We sat in the bar area and except for the very large group event, it was comfortable. You order at the bar and pay upfront. Our food was brought to our table. I had to hunt for flatware. Napkins were available at the table. After perusing the HUGE menu, we decided on sharing the pulled pork sliders and the Caprese Sandwich. The sliders were ok. Nothing swoon worthy. I liked the two different sauces. The honey mustard was great. The house made focaccia bread made the sandwich a step above. I would come back just for the bread. So was it worth the LONG drive down to South Reno? No. This is not a place I would drive out of my way for. Would I come back if I were in that end of the city? We found this fun place for dinner called Schussboom Brewing Company, and ended up ordering way too much food. We started with the the PowPow Pretzel from Truckee Sourdough Company served with beer cheese. It was soft and delicious. We also ordered the Beer Cheese Jalapeño Tots, beer cheese, smoked bacon, pickled jalapeños, scallions over interesting Tetris shaped tator tots. They were a bit dry and did not have enough cheese. Then we ordered a large Yuppie Pizza which has Pesto, marinated chicken breast, sweet cherry peppadews, artichoke, heirloom cherry tomato, and feta. My partner also ordered two flights of their beers and enjoyed them. This place is annoying as you have to stand in line to order and then they bring the food out to you. This is our 2nd visit to Schussboom and again it didn't disappoint, our previous visit was during one of their special events so it was very busy, tonight was much better. The Service is exceptional, the staff is very attentive and helpful, they have a large menu and larger beverage selection. The restaurant is a large open setting, long bench style tables, like you experience at a ski resort, there is a area "kids zone" with toys, wood blocks and large with kids programs playing. They have both indoor and outdoor seating, outdoor had several heaters to keep everyone comfortable. This evening we enjoy the Apricot Chili, Hot Wings and Pepp Rally. We actually finished our order when the wife saw the Loaded Mexican Tots and commented how I love tots but didn't order them, oh I did then, they are crazy good. Came in on a saturday evening and it wasnt too crowded. You order from the bar/counter and they give you a buzzer or wait until your name is called. Food did take a bit to come out for being sandwiches. We had a minor hiccup where mine had to be remade due to having an ingredient that I had asked to leave off. But they were apologetic and got my remade sandwich out quickly. The food was very tasty. We didn't have any beers but i will say the biggest portion of there selection is IPAs. Kept hearing about this place so after another local pizza place had a line out the doo, we decided to check it out! As is typical in Reno on a Saturday night, it was SLAMMED. For this place you seat yourself and then order at the counter. We didn't have any issues finding a table for our family of 3 but the line to order did take a little bit to get through. For how busy it was I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly the food was ready. We were fully prepared for it to take up to an hour but it was probably only 20 mins or so! A year has passed and probably more than a dozen visits to Schussboom have along with it. South Reno is so fortunate to have this restaurant. With the number of families in this area it is so wonderful to have a space that is safe and comfortable for kids of all ages. We love coming here with friends on Fridays to end the week and catch up. The kids love the food and the ability to run around the dining room and also enjoy the kid zone in the back. The adults enjoy the flexible open seating, large selection of their beer and guest taps and their full bar and cocktail program plus their menu which includes house made pizzas from mild to Wild, big juicy chicken wings, and a whole host of flavors, fresh and healthy salads, and big shareable portions, and most recently the addition of some beautiful desserts. But I also love that this is a restaurant that you can enjoy any day of the week and any part of the day with great options for lunch, brunch and of course dinner. The staff is always super friendly and helpful in guiding you towards the right items on the menu. The kitchen is tiny but mighty and does a great job of keeping up with the insane levels of demand that hit the restaurant at peak times. And overall, this is always a good experience for our family. Sure, there are some drawbacks to the open seating like having to wait and find a table , and the counter ordering isn't always the most efficient, especially with kids, so you do have to be prepared when you get up there, but these things are minor and I really enjoy this place a lot. My favorite things to order I've got to be the sandwiches at lunchtime and the wings when I come in for dinner. Pro tip is to order them naked, because they come breaded by default. While I do like the out of crunch sometimes of the breaded wing, I generally prefer the naked wing with a little extra sauce on the side. Their dry rubs are fantastic, but so are all of their sauces, and they fry their wings of crispy so that they don't get soggy when they get sauced! read more

Went here for dinner and drinks with a friend after work on Monday and had a great time. We found a nice table in the bar area. It is Maragrita Monday at Schusboom and margaritas are half price so we promplty placed an order! Drink and food orders are taken at the counter. They will take your name and they call your name to pick up drinks when ready. Very easy process. Next we ordered the Turn 'n Burn specialty pizza. It is house-made chorizo, pickled jalapeños, pickled red onion, tomatillo salsa, cotija cheese, crema, and cilantro. This pizza is huge! Both of us took home enough leftovers for two more meals each! The crust is thin and a very thick crust. I would have liked a crisper crust but that is my personal preference. I also felt it was really light on the toppings. The flavor was very good, a nice spicy kick from the jalapeños. I would have liked a lot more chorizo especially. I think a heavier amount of toppings would have made the overall taste pop a lot more. The service was exceptional. Very friendly and courteous. They provide you with a fob that goes off when your pizza is ready for pick up by the kitchen. The staff there was so kind as to actually deliver the pizza to our table which was a nice bonus. We ended the night ordering beer from their extensive list of options. I had the It's Modern: West Coast Double IPA. I love IPA and this was so good! I have always loved my visits to Schussboom! After about a half dozen visits, I can say that Schussboom has earned its spot on my Reno recs list. The pretzel and beer cheese are a must get, but the whole food menu is great overall. I haven't really had anything I was truly disappointed with. The beer selection is usually pretty large and there is something for everyone. My favorites are the traditional sours and saison they do so well! At Schussboom you order at the counter and wait for your beer, but food is brought to you using a table number system. There is plenty of seating as well as tons of outdoor space. This restaurant is more of a self-serve restaurant than I expected. Orders were taken at the front counter and paid for at the same time. If I had known at the time, I paid that the service was super limited, I would not have left a tip. You were given a beeper, and when it vibrates your order is ready at a different counter. Drinks are also self serve. Of course, not the alcoholic drinks. I ordered the Asian Persuasion Wrap , with the addition of a Greek salad and iced tea to drink. My husband ordered the Pork Sliders with an add on of fries and Pepsi. There was a nice young man who helped me carry our food to the table. He also brought ketchup for my husband's fries. When I realized that we needed salt and pepper, I noticed a shelf near the kitchen area that you could help yourself. I was also able to help myself to take home containers. I did have to ask someone in the kitchen for a bag to put all the containers in. That being said, the food was delicious. That wrap was huge and I could barely eat a quarter of it after I had eaten my salad and stolen some of my husband's delicious fries. One complaint that I really do have is that the music was loud. It would be nice if the dining area music was a little more subtle compared to the bar side. Also, it was extremely loud in the restroom. It did not make for an enjoyable time. I really want to like Schussboom...I DO! But, in the three years that I have lived here and probably 8-10 visits in that time, there always seems to be some sort of issue here. I have met the owners Jeremy and his sister (I cant recall her name) and they are super awesome folks. They are doing a lot of cool and different things/events/themes to market the place and are all over social media and email with advertising events, promotions etc. The place has fabulous beer, good to very good food and a happy cool vibe (usually). The issue is with service. Service always seems to be a problem here and I was reminded of that with my recent visit on Father's day. I haven't been here in 8-10 months (other than for propane refills) but quickly I remembered why I haven't visited in awhile. We had a reservation, walked in and waited at the reception barrel. Easily waited 10-12 mins without anyone even looking at us let alone greeting us. I finally asked one of the staff working the register for dining room orders and she said that the girl who checks in reservations is busy taking orders right now and will be with us in a bit. After a few more minutes of waiting we were finally greeted and led to our seats at the bar. Once again no greeting as we sat down, no recognition that we were there, we were ignored by the two bartenders (Carli and Alli) for the next 5-7 mins or so as they walked by us multiple times. Then, just as I thought that we were going to be addressed, one of the bartenders came up to the previously seated folks next to us to ask if they needed drink refills......we still had not been greeted or addressed. Carli finally laid down some napkins and said she would get us waters. I quickly said we wanted to order as I didn't want to wait much longer again. She was pleasant and eager to help us at this point. It was apparent that Alli, one of the bartenders was clearly having a really bad day. She had a horrible attitude and continued to sigh repeatedly, toss things and slam down glasses, bottles or anything she had her hands on. No smile or any friendly behavior whatsoever. It was off-putting at best to watch her behavior and attitude. I needed some silverware and plates and not wanting to wait to see a bartender, I decided to go over to the food pickup/kitchen area to grab some. There were forks but no knives. I asked at the counter but she said that there was none available at the time. What? no knives? I also heard several patrons mention that they were struggling to eat breakfast without a knife. These examples above may seem like minor issues but they add up and start to peck away at the experience you have while dining and drinking at an establishment. I understand that staff are people too and can have bad days, but when working in the service industry you need to step up and overcome. read more
