A Very Well Run Burger Joint !!! I stopped at this Schoop's location in Highland for lunch. I was hungry and in the mood for a good burger. I had heard from many locals in the area that if wanted a good burger you should check out a Schoop's location. Schoop's has been around since 1948 and has franchises in Indiana and Illinois. On my visit to the Highland, Indiana location I was served by the owner. She helped me choose the homemade soup of the day to start, and walked me through ordering my delicious and filling burger and fries combo and a shake. The burger was fantastic, fresh with quality ingredients and toppings. The fries are hand-cut and crispy. The shake was very good as well. This was a very good lunch and I enjoyed my food and the history lesson from the owner. if you are in Indiana and looking for a great burger, give Schoop's a try. read more

Go To Munster Location. The Highland location has bad service, bad food and high prices. The waiter Spencer is a real "treat" to deal with, NOT. He has no business working with the public. I watched him fight a woman over a wrong order. My husband and I were just shaking out heads. We also thought the food was subpar, places did not seem clean either. It pains me to leave a low review on such a classic, but after visiting Schoop's for the first time in nearly a decade, I left pretty disappointed -- especially for a place that's long been a Region staple. Everything is a la carte, which I understand for a diner, but the pricing felt pretty shocking. A single burger runs close to $9, and a double cheeseburger is $18 -- without fries or anything on the side. That's double the price I remember, with no noticeable improvement in quality. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich, and unfortunately, the chicken just wasn't great -- a little chewy and not the best quality. The highlight of the meal was the Irish nachos, which thankfully taste just as good as I remembered. The ambiance hasn't changed much -- which is expected and even a little nostalgic -- but things like the bathrooms are definitely starting to feel dated. Came up for a family event and they were having pizza. But sorry I do not like the pizza around here. So I told my wife that I was not hungry and had work to do at the hotel. Schoops is my go to place the smash burgers are fries are alway fresh and why not get it all down with a chocolate malt. The staff is always friendly and service is fast. I cannot say enough about this place. If you are in town you must try them out. And I did do some work at the hotel. I just really dislike the pizza around here. read more

Worst burger I ever had. My friend raved about it. So I finally caved and went to try one with him. 1st thing, the price. The burger cost more than any burger Ive eaten at any other fast food place. 2nd was the burger it's self. It was like they took a small ball of hamburger meat and flattened it paper thin to make it look big. Then they over cooked it, making it crispy and tasting like charcoal. I had such a lovely experience my first time at schoops today. I had the triple bacon cheeseburger and it was completely phenomenal and worth every cent. The patties were definitely fresh and all of the ingredients and probably the best bacon I've ever had on top of a burger (besides the $25 burger at Au cheval in chicago). My onion rings were so crispy and perfect. Even better was the conversation and sense of community. I sat and chatted with Lynette and her son for about an hour after I finished eating and every customer that came in chatted along with us like it was nothing. You cannot package that perfect of a place. That just comes with an excellent establishment with excellent food, and even better service with people who love what they do and love serving the best. Stopped in 30 minutes til close. Lady taking my order seemed immediately ready to go and frustrated that we were even there. Ordered to go. 4 bacon burgers and 2 fries. I thought it was a bit expensive to begin with but that's not one if the issues I encountered. My entire family became IMMEDIATELY sick the same evening. I hope they didn't "yuck our yum" but I can't understand why everyone was sick at the same time. Had an early (11:00 am) lunch by myself at the counter of this lovely location. Service was super friendly, restaurant was spotless and the food was delicious. Their scratch-made Cream of Chicken Noodle is wonderful! I have dined at many Schoops locations and this one is exceptional. A great place to grab a great cheeseburger on the go. I always order the Mickey. My family loves to come here not just for the cheeseburgers but their chocolate shakes. The shakes are super thick and rich. They also offer their famous green river sodas! Their french fries and onion rings baskets is the way to go. We were so used to going to burger joints with goat cheese, arugula, special sauces, etc that I almost forgot that a regular cheeseburger is just as delicious! Worst customer service ever! My order was order was missing items, I had to return to the restaurant to get the rest of the order. Upon returning home from the restaurant for the second time, I checked my food and it was still wrong. I was told I would receive a credit for my next order and of course when I called today there was no record of the credit. Manager did nothing to make it right. We were frequent customers and it's sad to say I will never go back. Customer service from management it's disgusting. Previous review written, same applies here: Interesting fact about myself (and Schoop's): Back in my day as a college student at Indiana University, I would come back for Christmas break in dire need of some cash. I found myself working at Howard & Son's meat market, where I ended up grinding the ground beef that was sent out to all of the Schoop's restaurants in the region. So yea, I got a first hand look at why the burgers at Schoop's taste so freaking good. And that, my friends, is a secret I will not reveal. In my mind, there are 2 types of burgers: the fat, juicy ones served with any number of gourmet toppings all piled on a robust bakery bun, or the thin and crispy burgers that should only be served with traditional toppings (cheese, mustard, ketchup, relish, etc) on a regular hamburger bun. Schoop's serves the latter, and they serve it up as good as any place I've been. Try a "Mickey" (single patty, double cheese) along with some cheese fries (they got that delicious and gooey processed cheese sauce) and you should be good to go. So, for those who care, skip those five guys from the east coast who started up a cookie-cutter burger chain, and find yourself some Schoop's--a local chain of diners that get's their meat from a local butcher shop. I came to this burger joint with my boyfriend on Tuesday afternoon. I thought this was a steak n Egger to be honest but it wasn't. I had the bacon double cheeseburger with everything except pickles and mustard. French fries with cheese and a cherry coke. ( the cherry coke tasted just like Jonny Rocket's cherry syrup). I ate at the highland location on 3/25/2019. I ordered a bowl of chili and asked before receiving it if it was spicy. The "manager" said it was not. As a diabetic, I took a 1/4 bite and could not eat it. I asked him if he could please give me soup instead. He stated he would not charge me for the soup. However, he charged me $3+ for the chili and said if i didn't like it, he would also charge me for the soup. And when I asked to speak to his district manager, he stated beligerently to me that he was the manager. If Schoops feels this is the way to treat seniors, then they will not get a good review from me. Yes I became rude. Most restaurants will exchange a dish if it is unsatisfactory to the guest. And when I asked him the price difference between the soup and chili, he would not tell me. I've been coming here on and off since high school. Schoop's is probably one of the best places to get a nice juicy burger and a bowl of soup. The only complaint I have, the burgers are a bit pricey - a double with cheese will set you back close to $10 - and that's with no sides or a drink. My boyfriend recently moved and we were happy to discover that there was a Schoops very close by. The one in Calumet City has curly fries, while the one in Munster does not, so I didn't think this Schoops did either, but they did! They were so delicious!! It was just as good as the one in Calumet City and in a better area. It's a bit pricey and definitely high in calories, but it's worth it every so often!! read more
