Absolutely love this throwback to the 50s and 60s ... a real live drive-in restaurant that still has carhops working the drive up sections under the awning. Now while you can also dine in at the limited seating inside, it is more fun to do it the old-fashioned way. BTW the carhops who work the drive up also work the dine in seating, and they were excellent ... always showing up just about when you needed something. Great service. The only hard thing here is ordering outside because one can't always see every part of the menu boards tacked up under the awning ... lucky enough, the carhops bring you the full menu. Food wise: we shared an order of Fried Mozzarella Sticks (4 star good, and they only needed just a bit longer frying to make the cheese inside creamy) and we shared an order of what they bill as the largest/best serving of fries in the world (another 4 star offering that was good, but barely fed two ... let alone being the "largest"). For mains: two of us had the Cruiser Burgers (both 5 star burgers), and the last in our party had the Blue Top Burger (4 star excellent with grilled onions). Just for fun, we also tried a Chicken Taco (3 star stuff, and not really their specialty). Our group had two shakes (5 star stuff here). As a drive-in, Blue Top also knows how to have some fun: they have live music outside from time to time, and they offer "cruiser nights" when customers can drive in their muscle cars and park in the attached lot. You just have to pass by every day and read the marquee outside to know what's going on that evening or weekend. The ambiance inside is true to its 50s roots with nostalgic pictures of car drivers and their machines all over the walls. All in all, this drive-in is true to its classic car roots. Open all year. I love checking out places like this, hidden gems that are out in the middle of nowhere without any sort of indication that it would be something special. But this place not only has good food and service, but the atmosphere just takes you away. The outside area to the drive-in is filled with old, cool cars, and the inside has the diner atmosphere filled with pictures of the restaurants regulars. If you're coming in from out of town or just happen to be looking for a one of a kind place, this is a good bet for a good lunch or dinner. Mostly burgers which come with amazing add ons, I ordered myself a chocolate milkshake which was quite good as well. If there's anything I can highly recommend from my own visit, the chilli cheese fries were off the charts. Definitely check those out if you like that kind of thing. Stopped in on a Saturday for lunch. The service was fine. She was around every time we needed anything and answered our questions. The place is very nostalgic lots of old signs and things to look at. The place has been around for a long time. There were a few classic cars parked there probably came from the Munster Car Show. The cheese fries were a little greasy but still nice and crispy. The chili cheese burger was good just needed to be cooked a tad less. The fries burger was just that a fried egg on a burger. No toppings at all. Probably our fault for not asking. Daughter's golf team had had a good day, so we went to Blue Top to celebrate, about 8 pm Wednesday evening. Very few cars. We parked, no one came, so we went in. Car hop looked about 16 and I'm thinking it was her first week. We ordered burgers - very nice. Then we ordered hot fudge Sundays, got milkshakes. Turned out the carhop/waitress did not know what a "Sunday" was. She talked to the manager, and then we got our Sunday's. All good. read more

I've been driving by this place for 20yrs. I have always said, I need to eat there, well the day finally came... It was a solid drive-in diner. This place has a lot of character, it is unique. I don't understand why people flock to chain burger places that are terrible. This place feels like America , The onion rings are beer battered ,light crisp and home made. There are 10+ burger choices. The fries were crisp thin and delicious. They serve Pepsi products... I had a double cheeseburger, my lovely wife had the mushroom Swiss. The only negative was the mushrooms were canned but that's me being picky. I look forward to bringing my girls here in the future, utilizing the car hops!!!! With the restrictions with COVID-19 we have been searching out different options. A co-worker suggested this place. What a great experience. Old fashioned drive in, so they take your order and bring it to your car. My husband had the chili which he enjoyed and I had their specialty burger which was delicious. I would like to say first and foremost I used to work for Ben and Wendy Johnson when they owned Blue Top. They took pride in a clean restaurant. I walked into the dining room through the double doors and I was appalled. The glass looks like it has never been cleaned and between the double doors has become a filthy storage area. The floors in the dining room were filthy. I could not believe the women's restroom. The walls, floors, toilet, sink and mirror had not been cleaned in forever. I would have rather gone to a highway restroom. It was disgusting! IF I would have entered the building prior to eating I would have NEVER eaten there. The owners should be ashamed and the health department needs to visit! read more

The only thing I would change would have been once we got our food if our waitress would have come to the car to see if we needed anything else. Today was the first time our family came to Blue Top. We're new to the area and while out running errands we stopped for lunch. I got the Chicken Shroom and fried. They went great with my chicken. Which I don't know what the season that chicken with but it's So Soooo good! My9yr old got a Pizza Burger&onion rings with a Dr. Pepper . My 10yr got a grilled cheese fries and a Oreo shake. My son wasn't a huge fan of the onion rings but loved my fries lol. So we traded. FYI his kids taste is off because the onion rings are Amazing. We loved everything. My son suggested this after I turned down White Castle. I'm glad that I stuck to my guns. The burger was pretty thick, about a 1/4 lb in size. They use brioche buns. The malt was thick, creamy, with a bit of an ice crunch - just the way I like it. I think that the patties are frozen, though. The shape was just too perfect, and it was kind of dry, like frozen patties tend to be. I spent $25 for two meals, including a large basket of fries. Unless you are coming to gawk at classic cars, do yourself a favor and don't come at all. After years of waiting for someone to buy the Blue Top and turn it around -- what a disappointment. Blue Top is a refurbished Diner/Drive-In. Guy Fieri would call it a dive, too, if he tasted the food. Fries are frozen, burgers probably are too. And if you order a Fried Egg Burger like I did, you might get a scrambled egg burger. Good lord. I can go to another new burger place (named after Michael Stivic, hint hint) and get a burger made with fresh meat and a FRIED egg for less. Other family members got mayo, mustard and ketchup on their sponges -- err, buns -- and they got SOGGY. Yuck. When the best part of a burger joint's meal is the fried zucchini stick, watch out. The food was poor quality. I ordered a philly steak sandwich with onion rings and the shrimp basket with my fries for my son. The steak sandwich was okay.. it was bland and dry. & the onion rings were nothing more than mush. After breaking them open, I noticed there were no onions in them. The shrimp had the same exact mushy texture. My 8 year old son refused to eat it because he said 'it didn't taste right.' When I told one of the waitresses, she informed the mange who was absolutely RUDE & DISRESPECTFUL. After showing him the food, he told me there was nothing wrong with it and that it was my fault for ordering food I didn't like. Then when I asked for a refund, he became even more defensive! Not once did he try to fix the issue or replace the food. Instead, he insisted on how they serve nothing but quality food and how there was nothing wrong with it. SIR, YOU'RE IN DENIAL. Stop in for a nostalgic meal. I tried the cheeseburger fries and a Pepsi. I enjoyed the burger, it was topped with the usual lettuce, tomato, pickles, but a delicious bonus was the grilled onions and what they called Blue Top sauce. The burger is 6 oz. and you can actually taste it, it doesn't get lost with all the toppings on the sesame seed bun. I ordered a small French fries but was given a large, no problem, but it was a full basket, enough for two if not three teenagers. The menu included a variety of ice cream treats, malts, shakes and sundaes, I'll try one next time I get there. I'm going to try and make it back for one of the summertime car shows. I LOVE a good burger...unfortunately, Blue Top is NOT on that list, at least for burgers. If you want a good burger, head down the street to Minor Dunn or look for a Schoops. There is too much on the menu and needs to be trimmed so quality control is top priority. Lunch is not very busy, the times I have come, employee's or the same exact customers car's are parked under the canopy. Anyway, I ordered the so called famous "Cruiser Cheeseburger". The "Old Classic Bun" was an old classic bun alright, rock hard and stale. May have been left out or the package was left open. The patty should be listed as a brake pad, because it was way over cooked and dry - I'm not for sure, but the patty tasted like it was pre-cooked then re-heated. Finally the the mysterious "Hot Rod Sauce" tasted strange. The burger toppings were fresh. They have good fries - a generous portion, good mozzarella sticks and decent shakes. Will give them another try, but please get your burgers right. read more

My 13 year old son and I are frequent visitors of the Blue Top. Being newer to the area, we think it's a cool place to come for a burger after baseball games and when family is in town. Probably could use a little more cleaning, but again it's the experience. Not a fan of "show car" night...but understand that's a draw for many. Love this place. I take my girls there and the love using the old school quarters jukebox at the table. Great shakes from an old fashioned soda fountain and great burgers. This is an amazing place! It is a Community staple but I admit that I started going more often under the new AMAZING Management/Ownership. He has revitalized the "Collective/Auto Community in the last couple years. There has been more events that have attracted many from all over NW Indiana and Illinois. The food is fresh and the quality amazing! On Friday I had the shish kebabs and they were tender, full of flavor and just delicious. It was served with yellow rice. I have also had their soups and they are made fresh. Their Greek salad are crisp, served with the freshest ingredients and the grilled chicken is delicious. I have also had their shakes and they are made fresh to order. The staff is amazing! There are always regulars here because the owners let them know that they are at home. Lastly for me what is important in a business that I support is what they do in the Community. The Owner is very Community Focused. He is always thinking of ways to give back he has a heart of diamonds and gold. On Thanksgiving, he does free thanksgiving dinner and you cannot get more giving then that. Next week he is taking prices back in his hotdogs for 0.25. I cannot imagine our Community without this staple. read more
