It had been years since my last visit to Bombers, but they absolutely came through for us with a Mother's Day pickup order. We ordered the Black Bullet party pack which comes with two pounds of brisket and two large sides. We went with fries and beans, and also added ribs, mac and cheese, and buns to the order. The brisket is still the star of the show. The spice rub on it is perfect, and it's so tender that it's unreal. The fries are exactly the kind of battered fries I like which was a pleasant surprise because I feel like not many places do them that way. The beans were okay... a little sweeter than I personally prefer, but they had huge chunks of pork in them that I definitely appreciated. We also added two slabs of ribs, and they fell right off the bone. I'm usually not a huge ribs person, but these were well cooked and flavorful. Mom loved them, and that's what really matters. We did have a few small issues with the order. We realized that our mac and cheese was unfortunately missing when we got home. They also ran out of pretzel buns midway through packing things up, so we ended up with a mix of pretzel and brioche buns instead. Honestly, we didn't mind that one too much because it gave us a chance to try both (I'd pick pretzel if I were you). When we picked up the order the place was absolutely packed, so it was hard to be upset over an honest mistake. They were clearly incredibly busy. I still don't really care for the sweeter sauce that tastes heavily like peppers to me, but their vinegar-based sauce (which I think is their original?) was much better than I remember. I'm glad to see this place is still around and still holds up after all this time. More importantly, the brisket is every bit as good as I remembered. read more

Best BBQ in the Munster area as I had a taste for some smoke meat. Located in a strip mall with plenty of parking. Menu is vast and I wanted to try them all but I decided on the smoke fried wings, rib tips and slab of ribs. They hand u the receipt and you get to find your own table and wait for your name to be called. While you wait, you can hit the condiment station where you can get the different flavors of bbq sauce. I got the original and sweet. The food took a bit (15 min) and finally I got my tasting. Meat falling off the rib and juicy. The fried wings was a bit dry but very tasty. Highly recommend. read more

We are passing through Munster and looked for bbq place. The place is nicely decorated. It is self service place. We ordered the ribs, brisket and burnt ends pork belly. The ribs are great! The brisket and burnt ends are so tender. Their sauce is yummy. I like the spicy one. You can get your own sauce in small container. The mac n cheese side is so yummy. They have long tables you can share with other customers of you are not in a big group. This is not far from the highway so it's convenient to eat here if your oassing through Munster IN. read more

First I want to be transparent and honest. I have been in all levels of food service from busboy to manager over a 20 plus year span. My employer spent a great deal of money sending me to cooks school where I got plenty of training when I was young. My employment has taken me across the country to include some of the great BBQ states of Texas and both of the Carolina's. Now to the point. Contrary to the many reviews I see about Bombers the food is not good. It is marginally OK. Marginally. Everything I have eaten there is very over seasoned, greasy and over cooked. BBQ be it Beef, Pork, Chicken, sausage or whatever should taste like meat. It should not have the taste of the meat covered up with seasoning, excessive smoke or sauce. In the south BBQ is simple lightly smoked, lightly seasoned and the flavor of the SLOW cooked meat speaks for itself . Their pork and beans are a soft salty mess with no distinct flavor beyond salty. The Ribs are sooty from too much smoke and too much seasoning and burnt on sauce. The slaw is typical grocery store mixed with mayo and sugar. I just dropped over 125.00 at the Munster store and I almost feel I should toss it in the trash. I am going to rinse the what ever it is off the ribs and see if I can salvage them. I met one of the founders of Bombers in Munster when they first opened. He seemed inexperienced but willing to learn. Apparently he learned the wrong stuff. Every visit of mine since the first has been worse than the last and the best I can say is they have zero consistency in their food. I find it hard to believe that a second Bombers has opened in Crown Point! Indiana has never been a center of culinary excellence and Bombers is not going to raise them to that lofty level. But to be fair most people in this part of the country think that grilled meat covered in a spicy or sweet red sauce is BBQ. That is not BBQ. I still hope that someday someone will open a real BBQ joint around here and that the locals find out just how good real BBQ taste. My money for BBQ will not be wasted at Bombers again. read more

Came here for the first time on a Saturday early lunch afternoon. It is located in a strip mall where there are very few tenants and so the common parking lot behind. It is very large and full of ample parking. After walking in, there are lots of menus and be sure to take a look at the specials as well. While the staff was nice at the counter, I wouldn't necessarily say they were proactive or super friendly Food came out super fast. We only ordered two items and I think the highlight of the meal we definitely all the sauces at the self-service condiment bar. That also has the drinks that you also have to get for yourself. The tables are huge however it never got really crowded so we didn't actually have to do any communal dining, but I'm sure when they are busy prepare yourself for communal dining Pricing is very fair however, I did think the portions were a little bit on the smaller and considering the barbecue competition in that vicinity. This is still definitely a worthwhile visit and quality meats. read more

My friend recommended this place. She stated they have specials throughout the week/month that may not be on the menu later. It was kind of hard to find because they are in back of another business. So you have to drive around into the lot. It's a Take out or sit down restaurant. I went during lunch and they seem to get busy during that time. There's about 7 tables for shared sitting and some tall table sitting. You walk in and order your food to go or there. They so sell beer for those that are interested. I had the double smash burger. It came with cheese, onions, and their special sauce. You can order a drink and side for an upcharge. The flavor of the burger was definitely there but the only reason I gave a 3 is because there was so much grease at the bottom of my burger it soaked the bun to the point it was falling apart and leaking grease. I couldn't even finish the burger. I did see a lot people order the brisket and smoked wings so next time I will have that. read more

We recently ordered takeout from Bombers BBQ for a party of 7 and went with the X-2 Starbuster, which included 2 lbs of pulled pork, 1 lb brisket, 1 lb burnt ends, 40 wings, 2 full slabs of baby back ribs, and 4 quarts of sides. It was a lot of food for 7 people--we had plenty of leftovers that lasted us for days! For our sides, we chose the slaw, pork and beans, jalapeño cheddar cornbread, and sweet potato fries. While most of the meats were flavorful, we did find some of them on the dryer side, which was a bit disappointing. Overall, it was a solid barbecue experience, especially for a big group, though we would have appreciated a bit more moisture in some of the meats. read more

Holy smokes! Amazing food from top to bottom. Got the daily special of pulled rib sandwich with a side of Mac and cheese; and the bang bang shrimp. The shrimp was cooked perfect and is a very generous portion for the dollar spent. Very clear why the sandwich is on the daily special list - succulent and delicious! The Mac and cheese had a nice crust and great texture. The service was quick and the cooks were very friendly when picking up the food. The restaurant was clean and had nice vibes with big tables. Made the trip out to Munster for a concert and found this spot just down the street. Easily the best BBQ I've had in a long time. I tried the burnt ends and the turkey, and both were incredible. Perfectly cooked and full of flavor. It's about an hour away for me, so not somewhere I'd go out of my way for, but definitely worth stopping if you're in the area. read more

Being from Texas, BBQ anywhere outside of the state is always hit or miss but Bombers in Hammond Indiana is definitely a home run. They have a clean industrial interior and counter service. We reviewed the menu for a minute and my wife chose burnt ends and a side of coleslaw. I opted for the two meat plate with brisket and burnt ends with a side of deep fried corn on the cob. It took a few minutes for them to get our order out but it was definitely worth the wait. The burnt ends are to die for and the brisket is perfect with a nice smoke ring and great flavor. The best thing about the meal is they are proud of their meat as they don't try to hide it with sauce although they have several sauces available it's up to you whether or not to use any. If you're coming across the border from Chicago you'd be hard pressed to find better Bbq than what Bombers is offering. read more

One word, Disgusting! I have been going to Bombers since they opened. It was awesome, but the quality has gone way downhill since they opened. I ordered a brisket sandwich and a small order of fries. they fries themselves were $4, crazy. the cost of the whole order was over $20!! the Brisket was inedible, it was more dry than beef jerky. They are obviously re-serving meat that was smoked days before. Today's was worse that ever, I fed some to my dog and threw the rest out read more

Brisket plus ends were perfectly done with great flavor, tenderness and just the right amount of fat to melt in your mouth. Stopped on way to chicago and was well worth the side track off the expressway. It's an order at the entry and pick up at the counter so not much to say in terms of service except the person who took my order was very friendly and helpful with recommendations. Also hit this right after opening so was not too busy. Loved the decor with all my favorite breweries and a few lovely old school pinups. read more

Starving heading south out of Chicago and stumbled on this spot and beyond happy I did. That brisket melted in my mouth. Their mustard bbq sauce is 5/5. The corn on the cob is to DIE for. So much so, I got another order to go. Mac n cheese is creamy and good but could use a little kick. Dash of hot sauce did the trick. Wish they had more green option on sides but seriously, maybe 3rd best bbq I've ever had!!! Ambience is blah, so get it to go if traveling through and drink a beer while you wait. So worth it!!! read more
