They don't even deserve one star. They should get negative stars. I leased a Subaru vehicle from Shortline and it was an absolute disaster from start to finish. I will break it down department by department.
Sales:
In 2014, I decided to lease a Subaru from them. I was helped by Victor (don't think he's there anymore). I asked for a Subaru with a navigation system. He showed me a car and I ended up leasing that vehicle. I asked for discounts and other options to bring down the cost. He gave minimal effort, got couple dollars down and pushed me to lease with the rate he got. I asked him to go back to the manager and present a different offer, and he almost got angry with me. It's his job to present the offer if the customer is unhappy, but he did so begrudgingly. I was very unhappy with his attitude.
Leasing went ok. I followed up with Victor regarding a feature I asked for when leasing the vehicle. The vehicle didn't come with it, but I was never followed up with Victor even though I called and left him a voicemail. It wasn't the biggest issue, so I let it go, hoping that I never had to deal with Victor again.
Finance:
A couple weeks later, I noticed that I never received my license plate. My paper plate was about to expire, so I went back to Subaru. I talked to sales and finance department. After checking the paperwork, a snooty lady from Finance department said the paperwork was turned in that day (aka she just did it). She didn't even have the courtesy to come downstairs and let me know. She just stood mid-staircase, looked down at me and shouted. Way to go, shortline. F for customer service.
Service:
I had an OK experience with the service department. Even though I always make an appointment, I always had to wait an hour before the service managers got to my car. One time my Bluetooth wasn't working and one of the service techs ordered a spare part. I waited for an hour in the lobby and then the tech said he'd take a look. They're generally ok but the waiting part was ridiculous.
End of lease:
My biggest issue came from returning the vehicle. I returned my vehicle a couple of weeks early. Because I was not happy with Victor, a different Sales representative helped me, Tom Karros (Senior). I spoke with him prior to returning the vehicle, so on the day of the return, we met, I returned the vehicle and I thought that was the end.
A couple of weeks later, I was traveling internationally and was not able to check my voicemail regularly. When I did, I noticed an awful lot of messages from the finance center for Subaru. Turns out I had returned the vehicle excess amount of mileage on them. THAT REALLY PISS ME OFF. I had underdriven the vehicle and returned the vehicle early. So for them to charge me extra was just cherry on top. I reached out to Tom and shortline subaru but they said I had to deal with end of lease term aka finance center to resolve the issue. When I did reach out to Tom about the Final Odometer reading he was supposed to give me, he said he'd look into it. I followed up, he said tomorrow. I followed up, and he said end of the day. No call at the end of the day. He gave me some bs excuse about moving to Mitsubishi and how the database was moved yadayadayada. So basically he was all talk and no follow up. Finally, he said he's with Mitsubishi and he's not able to help. He asked someone else to handle the matter at Subaru (I forget his name).
I followed up with that person a couple of weeks later and he said he's not able to help because of the database issue. I asked him why no one followed up with me. No clear answer. And this is where the blame game starts between him and Tom. And to make matters worse, he is yelling on the phone because he is caught in the middle of this, which he had nothing to do. Though I understand his frustration, it is never OK to yell at a customer over the phone because of frustration. again, F for customer service. I ended up handling the issue myself and resolving the mileage issue and was able to have the finance department void out the charge. This all could have been avoided if Tom gave me a final odometer reading (he did not give me one when I returned the vehicle. He said whoever handled the return is supposed to...but that's Tom. nice try on the blame game, Tom).
I know it's a long post with lots of twist and turns and lesson learned by yours truly. Take away points for you include:
1. They suck at paperwork, customer service and follow up. Don't do it. This is by far, the worst dealership I've been to with the worst people ever.
2. Stay the hell away from this place. It will save you a headache, a mountain of paperwork and excessive charges. read more
