Crestwood Walmart/ShopnSave

Schnucks is just like Walmart and the old Shop n Save. Bag your own groceries beware. Go to Dierbergs..better choices, better service, and they bag your groceries.

This is a pretty standard Schnucks for the area. It isn't the largest of fanciest Schnucks I've been to in St. Louis, but it also isn't shabby by any means. It has a nice selection of goods , a nice deli, and solid produce. The produce section is probably the best aspect of the store. There is plenty of parking and it is easy to spot off of Watson. The only thing I would say is a let down is the bakery. It is well below the standards of most grocery stores I've been to in the area.

I really like Straub's market and enjoy walking around and shopping here. I have been coming here…read morefor years. The location is quite convenient for me. There is ample parking on the lot. The employees are friendly. They carry some of my favorite items, such as: as huge variety of Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream flavors and Kobe Beef patties for grilling burgers at $2.50 a patty. It's my main stop for picking up pints of Jeni's ice cream when I don't feel like driving down to the CWE to visit Jeni's, in person. I would say their prices are hit-n-miss, some items are prices high and some items aren't. I would suggest to check the sales ad for savings and the signs out front as you walk in. I love their fresh made items, such as: seasonal salsa varieties, chicken salad, soups, desserts, etc. It's a high end store with a casual vibe and feel.

Easy, easy catering! We ordered chicken salad sandwiches on croissants, and turkey/ roast beef on rolls. The quality of the sandwiches is wonderful and everything is so fresh. They have such amazing chicken salad. We also ordered Italian salad, fruit salad, and cake. Everything was ready to go when I went to pick it up at the designated time. With how busy life is, it was super appreciated how prompt everything was. I do wish condiments like mayo and mustard were included- so definitely make sure you plan on picking some up when you stop by. Would definitely recommend!

There are not many places like Freddie's Market left. I am a meat cutter at one of the chain stores…read moreand I drive all the way to Webster Grovers to buy meat at Freddie's (my wife doesn't get it). There are some things at Freddie's that you just cannot find at other stores, for example if you order a side of beef from Freddie's you are getting a side of beef. They bring in a side from a local packer break it down and cut it, every other place in St. Louis that I have seen uses box beef to fill orders like this. Freddie's Deli is really great and it has grown vastly since I have been shopping there. They carry the Boar's Head brand for some meats and cheeses. What I really like is the made in house deli meats that they have, Turkey breast they bake and season, roast beef that is a USDA Choice top round, and local Miller Hams (my favorite). All their deli salads are made in house as are their B.B.Q. and smoked items. THE BACON!!!! Freddie's gets in LOCAL smoked pork bellies as a whole piece and cuts them into bacon in the store, this is unheard of in all other stores that I have ever been in or worked in. THE PORK!!!! You guessed it the pork comes from a LOCAL farm too! They also use the trimmings from that local pork to make their brats and other linked sausage. When it comes to beef at Freddie's they buy only USDA Choice. Most of the big chain stores are selling select beef (a lower grade) for the same price that Freddie's is selling choice. Being a meat cutter this makes all the difference to me, there are not many things that I would buy grade select. Chicken and fish is a nice display at Freddie's. They offer free range birds and can order anything a customer might want. I learned all this information by talking with the butchers behind the counter, three of which have owned their own butcher's shops. Freddie's offers more local and farm to table products than any other independent store in St. Louis, From dairy, to Produce, and Meat. Their prices are right in line with the wholesales prices. If I had my own Butcher's Shop I would want my case to look like Freddie's.

I found this place on Facebook, and decided to go Monday for lunch. They have a lunch special every…read moreday, and a calendar on Facebook that let's you know what the special is. Every Monday is "Freddie's famous meatloaf", with green beans and mashed potatoes. I literally had lunch, and dinner from the plate. It was delicious! The potatoes and beans were also good. They also can make cold deli sandwiches, and have a variety of hot sandwiches prepared in a case. You can also join their rewards program.

Whenever I come into this place, I can't help but think of two very commonly known slogans for this…read moresupermarket. "At Schnuck's we make it easy" and "The friendliest store in town." Ok, this place does not make anything easier for me and I'm telling, it's not even close to being the friendliest store in town. This place has some of the worst prepared foods in St. Louis. I never want to get anything here because it all looks like it's been sitting out all day. Also, the salad bar, not so stellar, again, looks like it's been sitting there all day and no one has touched it. I will not buy anything here that is not prepackaged. The bakery is just alright, I just don't enjoy most of their items. The gooey butter cake is dry and the bagels are not good, I will admit, they have amazing sugar cookies...I dream about them, but otherwise, I pass on this bakery. Also, the checkers here are NOT friendly at all. They seem angry, and why not? I know they have to pay union dues and Schnuck's won't let the workers bring their own lunch, so if they want to eat while working an 8 hour shift, they have to use some of their hard earned cash to eat the terrible prepared foods in the employee lounge...I might be crabby too if I was forced to choke down yellow potato salad for dinner on a daily basis. Also, the organic/vegetarian/vegan food selection is LAUGHABLE! I mean, they have about 3 freezers, mostly filled with cheesy goodness and amy's organic meals...so good luck vegans...I highly suggest searching elsewhere, this is not the store for you. So I ask you, St. Louis yelpers....exactly how is Schnuck's making anything easy? How is it the friendliest store in town? If you need to shop, and this place is close, you will find all the staples you need. It's relatively clean and the store has a movie rental box and a place where you can buy Six Flags tickets. (I suppose that's helpful). However, it's not a great grocery store. Since we have so many choices down here, I highly suggest driving a little further down the road till you hit something else....because I am convinced it will be better.

I do like their deli and hot bar, but it doesn't always have what I want available. The produce section doesn't spark any joy for me in its setup, or freshness. It feels like the things I want are not always in stock, and I never find anything new that I really want to buy. The cashiers are friendly enough and the deli counter is is OK, not remarkable. I had one unpleasant encounter at the Customer Service counter where the person helped me was unnecessarily snippy, but I know Customer service isn't easy, so I take that in account. Overall, I like other Schnucks better for my weekly shopping.
