For my trip to Central Europe, one of my goals was to eat as much schnitzel as possible, and to that extent, finding the best. For this location, I actually found it on Tripadvisor, but want to give Berlin some Yelp Love. As is the case at any restaurant in Europe - get a reservation. We arrived in time of ours and were sat outside. A bit cool, but still nice. We each got our own things, but some to share as well, while splitting a bottle of rose. 3 German Tapas: a huge selection, but we went with the following -Trout mousse with wheat crackers: this was my choice as I love a good whitefish salad, and this was one of the best I've had. I pretty much killed it. -Small fried meat balls with ramson mustard: our group likes meatballs. This comes with 3, so was perfect for us. I liked them, but didn't stand out like other options. -Plums wrapped in bacon: you had us at bacon. Really good bacon at that. Cream of Asparagus soup: We came during Spargle season, which is a HUGE thing in Europe, sometimes literally. This was also one of the best soups I have ever had. White asparagus, creamy and warming. Wiener Schnitzel: While growing up I was partial to saltimbocca and do love a jaegerschnitzel, I had to go with the one on the top of the menu. It was honestly the best schnitzel I had on my trip. I loved the lemon wrapped in cloth to add some flavor, but really just a delicious, huge piece of fried meat. I think we skipped on the dessert as it was a huge piece of meat. Our hotel was near the Berlin Central Station, but it was a nice evening so we walked over to this highly rated place. We didn't have a reservation, and upon arrival, the owner seemed a little apprehensive to give us a table at 5pm, asking if we'd be done by 8pm. Yeah, it wasn't going to take us that long! We got to sit outside on the patio where there is a lot off ambiance. We were welcomed with a small glass of beer while we looked over the menu. It was a great first experience in Berlin. There are so many great things on the menu, but I was in the mood for schnitzel, so I ordered the Wiener Schnitzel (veal filet). My wife got the Zander Filet (white fish in Parmesan crust), and our daughter ordered off the kid's menu for some pasta which they made into a cute little face. When we arrived early for our reservation, they seated us right away and provided a Welcome Beer (that never happens in the US). We had an appetizer with meatballs, cheeses, and sausages w sauerkraut. Everything was very good, but I especially liked the meatballs. For dinner, my husband had The Original which was very tasty and I enjoyed the Cordon Blue. Portions were generous, as well. The service was very good and the restaurant got quite crowded. Walked in on a Tuesday night and it was packed with people waiting. The hostess told us we needed reservations because it was fully booked (so def make reservations beforehand), but as we stood there she handed us a glass of pilsners and said they were welcome beers. We were super confused and wondered if we were going to be seated. She told us she would make something work and she seated us in about 20 min. Super thankful! The Weiner schnitzel was seriously delicious and bigger than my whole face. It came with a really good potato and cucumber salad. My friend and I debated on whether we should order the tapas too but we didn't think we could finish all the food. Luckily we didn't because i struggled to finish the whole dish because the portion was huge. But it was super tasty so I couldn't stop eating as well. I read that they gave an after dinner drink which they didn't for us and they messed up our beer orders which they graciously fixed (also did not have craft beer that night) but that's why I rated a 4 instead of 5. My friend and I shared the German tapas (9 dishes for ~21 euros) and it was the perfect size lunch for us. They served us complementary beers (kind of small and mostly foam, but I appreciate the gesture) as well as bread with our meal. Out of the tapas, we especially enjoyed the bacon wrapped plums, Nurnberger sausages with sauerkraut, and Königsberger Klopse (meatballs with caper sauce). Schnitzelei Mitte was a warm and pleasantly buzzing place. Of course I went with Wiener schnitzel (veal), which was point to point one of the most delicious and satisfying things I'd eat in Berlin. Even the small details, like the green onions and pickled cucumber, made the plate pop in a way that no other schnitzel that I ate would do. The date went with, of all things, the chicken cordon bleu, which was as excellent a version as we've ever had. Crisp, beautifully fried exterior - the cheese oozed forth like a Juicy Lucy. We had a selection of 6 German tapas, and all were really good to excellent too. The beer was excellent, as were the choices available and the beer prices. One of us had a glass of wine --very nice.
