My eye care office of 20 years prior to this one had me spoiled with regards to not having extra charges like Riverside eye specialist does - a fee to use credit card and more billing if I bring glasses for warranty work or adjustment. Arriving way before my appointment did not keep a long wait from happening well past my appointment time. The twiddling of thumbs was ameliorated by the terrific multi-faceted intersection of geometry, celestial windows and sight lines of the modern architecture that the office is in. The black and white featured photography further added to distraction from waiting in funky furniture that is nOt complimentary to the noted delights while having further wait time to get the key to the bathroom.

Dr. Erika Saucedo is a kind person, and when I found her and decided she was the right person to do my cataract surgery, I was impressed by her bedside manner and her enthusiasm. I thought it would be quick and simple. My husband had surgery for two cataracts last year somewhere else, and he did well, so I was very excited to be able to see again, due to the fact I am now the only person to drive in my family. Well, unfortunately, the doctor did not explain that I had a stigmatism and needed a different lens that would have cost an additional $2000 dollars. No person mentioned this at any time. All my senior friends with stigmatism never had any of my problems. So after the surgery, I had it January 23, by May 17, my sight went from 20/30 to 20/50 and it is getting worse and worse. I now can not see to drive or to read or to watch TV with subtitles, etc. etc. etc. I spoke to the doctor and she sent me to a Laser surgeon to pay $2200 out of pocket for correction, but I asked her to bill my medical for "medical surgery necessity" because the laser place expects me to pay out of pocket and then get reimbursed. I called the manager of the company to speak to her about the issue, and to ask that the medical surgery information be sent to my insurance, due to the fact that this issue is not because of vanity, but medical necessity for sight. She never returned my calls. After another month, I called and made an appointment with the doctor to meet to discuss. The manager never showed up or participated in any of these meetings. I have waited another 3 weeks and finally last week, I heard from the manager stating that she would submit the paperwork. Again nothing done. I am very dissatisfied with the organization, the doctor is sweet and kind, but the manager is very incompetent and should be replaced by someone with logic, responsibility and functionality. Will update when something fixes the problem. Will now have to report organization and doctor to applicable Boards, BBBf and other places.

Then the optometrist, a young Indian man (also didn't get his name, I know I did terrible but I was assisting my grandma so I'm giving myself a pass LOL) was very patient and had great communication skills with my grandma. I know asking the elderly questions can be a test of patience, but he handled it with grace and kindness which I truly appreciated. Lastly the ophthalmologist an older white man (clearly names were a struggle today) came in with great energy and was very good at explaining to my grandma her new prescriptions in a way she could understand. There was also a female who assisted the Dr. and she was so sweet as well (she gets extra points for complimenting my crocs LOL) Overall very clean facility and kind workers. I have no bad things to say. (Only gave 4/5 stars because we still don't know what is causing my grandmas chronic dry eyes and we still haven't found anything to provide long term relief) Side note: there weren't any introductions which is why I didn't get anyone's names and their badges were flipped so I couldn't see their names and we were way too far into the appointment to ask without making it weird. He yelled in front of everyone that I need to have my mask completely on. He didn't say anything to the white couple sitting across from me and theirs were almost completely off. Then I was trying to do work and be quiet on my computer, he heard me talking and proceeded to yell that I can't be on video chat. Seriously on a zoom meeting, in the corner, nobody can see me, and minding my own business. Ridiculous.

Please note I had this surgery done around 2005, but I have referred everyone I know and they have all been impressed by Dr Pabalan. The office was very busy, but after my initial appointment, I was set up for LASIK. I was impressed by Dr Pabalan's knowledge as well as his warnings. I was extremely anxious (I feel the Valium did nothing for me) but once the Doc knew I'd be more at ease if he walked me through verbally what he was doing, he did just that! He explained every painstaking detail of every step he took during the laser surgery. His staff called me later that evening to ensure I was doing ok (I was) and at my follow up appointment the next morning (a Saturday), there was no staff in the office, just the Doc coming in to see me. I was so impressed with follow up and follow through, and his level of care. My vision went from -2.75 to 10/15 in one eye and 20/20 in the other, over 16 years later my vision is still great. And as I approach my 50s, I don't need reading glasses yet, but Dr P warned me that reading glasses are inevitable, no matter what.

The doctor was fine but I was uncomfortable with what felt like an up-sell. "Do you have PPO insurance? Do you have dry eyes? We'll make an appointment for you in two weeks to come back for a dry eye procedure." Seemed sort of out of left field. I was there for a one-day post-op check. My regular doctor's office didn't have anyone in that day. I declined the procedure with them but will check with my regular doctor.
