You also get to cook cheese and meat at your table. It's communal seating all at one large table, so be ready to meet your neighbors and chat. Everything was delicious and incredibly well done. You can also stay and/or camp there - we did in an RV. The views from the hall are fantastic as well. We also bought cheese and sausages.

There are two parts of this restaurant, the fancy dinner option (you must make reservations for this portion) and the cafe which is self service. My boyfriend and I did not know you needed reservations for the dine in option so we sat ourselves in the very welcoming cafe dining room. The menu for both are the same so no worries if you can't get a reservation. The self serve option can seem confusing initially but they have a lot of grab and go but you can also order hot meals by ringing a bell for the chef. Check out is right before you leave the self service area which makes it really easy. I felt the prices were really fair too. For food I got the meatballs and split pea stew. My boyfriend got reindeer with cream sauce and mashed potatoes. I absolutely loved my meatballs, they were sweet and savory, I did not really like the split pea stew though. My boyfriend loved his entire meal and cleared his plate. We also shared their most popular dessert which is the apple pie. It was really good, not too sweet which was perfect for us. Definitely come to this restaurant when visiting Oslo!

Elias Mat & Sant is located in the sentrum, Oslo's city center, so is walking distance to many sites and attractions. I visited here after walking from the palace along Karl Johans Gate as the restaurant is located off this main drag. Make reservations here for the restaurant is small and intimate. It was time to try reindeer while in the Nordic region of the world, so here I did. I ordered the reindeer stew, which was delicious. The reindeer stew was similar to a beef stew, but the reindeer is leaner, so didn't taste as heavy, which is a good thing. Over some mashed potatoes with a gravy and herbs and a side of lingonberry, it completed the meal. It also came with a side of complimentary bread, which is not always the case at other restaurants. That was a nice bonus though because the bread helped soaked up the stew. Perfection!

We visited the museums at Bygdoy then decided to go there for dinner. Finding the shuttle boat pier was challenging. Google map led us to a residential area then pointed us to someone's back yard. We were lucky to ran i to some locals who were heading to the pier so we followed them. It turned out the entrance road leading ti the pier has a sign as private property, I would never turned into that road on my own. The shuttle only takes 11 people, we were lucky to get the last 3 seats. But I suspect it would run continuously back and forth, not the 30 minutes advertised. The info on the websites are not necessarily correct. We put our names in for a table for dinner, some of the locals are there only for drinks. Food is good, we got the Greenland shrimps, fish & chips, burger with bacon, and a shrimp toast. Since it was the opening date some of the items are not available yet. Seatings are outdoor, they offer blankets in case you get cold. On the way back, the shuttle has already had 8 people, but it came back right away for us.

You either can take a bus ($4) or what we did is take the museum ferry ($6) to stop 2-then walk about 15 minutes (but Google is messed up at the last part). Walk down a gravel road that has a barrier arm across, get on the little boat ($5) that takes you across to the tiny island (takes maybe 30 seconds), walk 5 minutes to the restaurant and put in you name (they don't take reservations and by definition you are only going there to eat outside of a beautiful day so lots of people have the same thoughts). I'd definitely go there to sit on the bar section of the patio and enjoy a glass of wine or two. We arrived pretty early -before 6 on a Sunday-so only waited like 20 minutes. The menu is really limited and as this is a seasonal restaurant-totally untrained staff. There were about 10 young servers and we probably interacted with 7 different ones-2 tried to take our order, different ones brought food, 1 didn't bring wine we ordered, another never brought the dessert we ordered after 20+ minute wait, and we eventually flagged down the only non-teenager and got our bill. Now I'm not trying to complain and everyone needs to start out somewhere but what was apparent is that there is absolutely no system whatsoever about who does what or who handles what-and it clearly wasn't a team service concept-just disorganized chaos. My wife's crab salad was decent as was my fish and chips but something we ate totally disagreed with us the next day. Can't recommend

We did not have a reservation, but luckily they managed to fit us in at a shared table. This place is extremely popular so I would highly recommend making a reservation. To start, we ordered the cod croquettes to share. Perfectly fried and golden brown, these croquettes were absolutely delicious and the accompanying sauce paired perfectly. For our entrées, I ordered the fish and chips while my husband ordered the creamy fish soup and my father ordered the fish gratin. All three dishes were fresh and delicious, but I think the fish gratin was my favorite. So if you find yourself an Oslo looking for a delicious meal down by the water, come check out Fiskeriet.

Fish & Chips is the famous dish there. We tried getting a reservation at Hos Thea, but it was fully booked for the weekend, so we settled for a late dinner reservation here after finding it on TripAdvisor. Originally, I wasn't too excited, but then the day of our dinner, the head chef himself called my boyfriend's cell phone with some questions about my allergies. He wanted to confirm that I was only allergic to the white parts of allium plants and not the green parts, and that butter was okay to include despite my lactose intolerance. Upon walking into the restaurant, I saw that the staff had a printout of all the reservations for the night, along with each party's dietary restrictions. Throughout the night, never once did I have to mention my allergies. They had already crafted special versions of each dish (a garlic-free sauce, a gluten and milk-free flatbread, a dairy free chocolate...) just for me. I've never eaten at a restaurant so at peace before. The meal was nothing short of a gastronomical experience. Dishes were modern, creative, well thought out and executed, beautifully plated, locally sourced, and minimally processed: the "tree" starter contained raw vegetables that tasted like the earth, the herring and lamb brisket were simply pan fried, and I had my very first raw pork tartare. My only criticism was that everything was on the salty side, but my boyfriend thought it was fine, so perhaps it's just me. The service throughout the night was stellar, with the sommelier and chefs stopping by for little chats with the guests. It didn't feel at all pretentious or snobby, but it was very attentive and professional. They always folded my napkin when I went to the restroom and refilled my water for me. It was also much fun watching the chefs work in the open kitchen, which was of course kept painstakingly clean. It's only a matter of time before they earn a Michelin star.
