Visited in July, the place offered a wonderful view over the city of Oslo with nice garden restaurant and wonderful pastries. Great to meet friends that we had not seen for decades. The outside is a charm even though umbrellas were kinda useless and/or so low that one had to crawl underneath like into a tent.

The food was amazing as was the service! We had salmon appetizer, chicken and the bow to a perfect meal was the budapest cake! I'm craving this meal again...problem is I'm in Wisconsin!

This experience was truly special and gave us all the Norwegian feels. We enjoyed lunch with family which was cafeteria style. They served a delicious beef stew with potatoes and pasteries. It is a bit pricey however worth it with these views! You feel like you are on the top of Oslo. I can imagine this is a magical location during the winter months. The trails around are a treat for walking or biking too

Tasty burger with some fries and they added little cheese side plate! Delicious with excellent service and good clean area! Very casual surroundings with good views over oslo! Seating inside and outside breath taking views!

This place is a gem. The atmosphere was very cozy and warm. Fire was burning in the fireplace and it was nice and warm. The food was outstanding, made in their kitchen. We also had their famous apple pie and that was truly the best I've ever had. Service was lovely and the staff was very helpful in every way. Fantastic experience, highly recommend.

    More dessert, more yum!

Had an incredible dinner there for our wedding anniversary while we visited Norway before covid. Great food, dessert, service and ambience. Highly recommended for an eventful meal. Bravo!

This is the perfect place for a snack a meal or just a coffee after cross country skiing. This place is authentic and I don't know if this is a heritage building strictly speaking but it could be. It is obvious that it carries a lot of history and has been well maintained overtime, I really like the spirit of the animals watching the building above us. Even though it wasn't overly cold on that day it was nice to warm up by the fireplace. Other than that the place was clean, we opted for the self service cafeteria (coffee and fruits) so I can't comment on the service or the restaurant quality but it was clean and people did greet us very nicely. This is one of my favorite place in Oslo. Must see.

Espresso and chocolate roll. I sadly can't recommend any of them.

Even since I have lived in Oslo for four years now, it was not until last week I finally took the metro up to Frognerseteren. I brought my parents there for lunch when they visited from Stockholm. I guess that's the kind of place Frognerseteren is, a place to bring people whom you want to show Oslo from it's most spectacular side. And with that, I am referring only to the view. Because even if the food is OK, it is not Great. For 185 kr we got salmon cooked in lemon, with sourcream, cucumber salad and potatoes. This was a cold dish. The salmon tasted great, but the cucumber salad was so watery that it created a soup together with the sourcream at the bottom of the deep plate. Really not nice and quite strangely composed. After the main dish I had a single espresso and a relatively small chocolate roll - together it cost 89 kr. The coffee was not very good and the chocolate roll far to sweet and not very tasty. Based on my experience, the prices are ridiculous in relation to what you get (especially since it's self service). But still I would (and will) go here again - solely for the view and the atmosphere of the old building. Next time I will bring a good book and try the famous apple cake.

5 Stars for the view 5 Stars for the food 1 Star because of poor service Amazing food and the view is incredible. Unfortunately, we did a great deal of waiting around for service tonight. We had a to wait about 20 minutes to order our drinks. I was contemplating just walking out when a different server helped out and asked us our drink order, even though our waiter passed us several times. Then I noticed every table was given a dried cod/fish skin appetizer with their bread, we never received this and it was never offered...even after I asked about it. That would have been nice as we were looking for an authentic Norwegian dining experience. Overall the food was amazing, it's a shame that our waiter wasn't all that friendly, helpful or attentive. We've been in Norway for two weeks now, tonight is our last night and I can honestly say that this was the poorest of service I received during our entire stay here. It makes me sick that we even left a tip for the server. It would have been nice to have the 5 star experience many others rave about but unfortunately we didn't.

Frognersetteren opened in the 1870s and has been serving world-class food ever since. The restaurant, up high above the city, was built of logs, and filled with great art and trophy animals. If I had to guess what a nordic hunting lodge would be like, this would be it. We both felt Frognersetteren gave us the best meal we had in Norway. I will go so far as to say that Frognersetteren made it into my top ten list for all time favorites. The service was better than any five-star restaurant I have experienced. Because it was so cold, rainy and off-season, there were maybe five tables filled and we were able to talk with the two waiters, basically having a private wait staff. The guys there were well trained with white glove service, detailed knowledge of the menu and the wine list and even arranged a ride home for us when we realized an über would take forever. We enjoyed every dish. This was my first time eating reindeer or grouse. I was never a game eater. The Reindeer tasted sweet and much more complex than beef. The grouse looked like beef but could not be compared to beef or chicken. The prawn cappucino was a soup with frothed milk. They also have a baked goods and book shop. In the shop, one can buy cookbooks and books about the art in Frognersetteren. There are two mobile rated restaurants in Oslo but we both felt we made the right decision coming here. I highly recommend for the atmosphere, the food and the service. Bring your banker. Like everything in Oslo, it will cost you. Our bill with tip and only two glasses of wine came to about $270. Totally worth it.

It's a hike up to this Restrant but the views are beyond breathtaking. The cafe inside restaurant it hardy and flavorful only thing missing is the temperature. Warm soup as well as main dish could of been hotter was the only thing missing from this meal. With a price tag on the high side the view will be the only thing that will keep me coming back.

Frognerseteren was recommended to us for the view. When we arrived it was completely fogged in, but that's okay because we got a chance to focus on the food. The restaurant was cozy with an old wood look. We started by splitting a starter of smoked lamb, it was great but if your hungry it's not a lot to share. For dinner I ordered the Reindeer and it was melt in your mouth. The waiter offered lingonberry jam to go with it, I recommend taking it because it was a great pairing. The reindeer was cooked on the rarer side. My wife ordered the venison and she loved it and she also took the lingonberry jam and said that was a great pairing They have an extensive wine list but I just asked the waiter for some help and he recommended a great bottle of Italian wine. The pricing is reasonable Finally we saved enough room for the cappuccino mousse and the apple tart desserts, they were both great. Enough said this restaurant is worth the trip

    Delicious reke smorbrod.

Admission was included in the Oslo Pass and was one of the more unique offerings. If one comes back in the winter then you can experience ski jumping for yourself. As part of the museum admission we did to ride to the viewing platform at the top of the ski jump and took in the almost 360 degree views. We also got an almost direct view down the ski jump. Personally not for the faint hearted but a very unique experience. Inside the museum they included a good variety of exhibits from medalists, evolution of Holmenkollen since its founding, history of skiing equipment and sport, a kiddie section, a ski making shop and more. There also were two interactive exhibits to test how much you could pull, as in a sled, and a skiing competition. A large gift shop was by the exit along with a ski jump simulator ride (separate fee). Well worth it. A Scandic hotel was located practically next door if one want to spend more time.

But if it's your first time in Oslo especially give yourself at least 2 hours to walk all the way in and about, around and out. This is a classic outdoor sculpture garden all done by one man-so not common. Massive grounds. Beautiful park walk and fountains and views. Iconic place and I highly suggest you go to his small museum first so you can get more history on Gustav Vigeland and the evolution of the his 200 pieces turning into the "Frognerpark."

This is a sculpture garden filled with over 200 sculptures (and over 600 individual figures)…read moredesigned by Gustav Vigeland from 1940 to 1949. It seems to be known as both Frognerparken (Frogner Park) and Vigeland Park. I doubt you have ever seen anything like this. I am including lots of photos because it's impossible to describe what this is like. The focus of the sculptures is the cycle of life and this is literally shown as babies turn into children, who then turn into adolescents, adults, and old people, and eventually die -- as the circle continues. You will notice that the statues are very realistic and are not romanticized in the least. They are regular human beings. You will also notice, of course, that they are all naked. The purpose of this is to emphasize their humanity without relying on class or wealth that becomes more obvious when people wear clothes. This might make some people uncomfortable, but it is done without any intention of being erotic. The inspiration for Vigeland's work comes from Rodin's nude sculptures. However, the realistic human statues remind me of Pompei -- real human people caught in a fragment of time. That said, is it worth your time while in Olso? Absolutely! This will overwhelm your senses and be etched in your memory -- in a good way.

This is an amazing area to come visit while in Oslo!!…read more While here on vacation in Oslo, I was interested to visit bygdoy for a few various reasons. First of all, this is a nice area with lots of natural scenery, fresh air and open space. Great to visit in order to escape the craziness of the main city area and to experience the museums (the majority of the museums in Oslo are situated out here on this peninsula). We took a ferry from City Hall to get here after purchasing our Oslo Pass. The ferry was a very enjoyable ride. It was a beautiful, warm, sunny day and made for a great boat ride, during which we got to capture lots of great pictures and see some open water. Many nice houses and boats situated along the oslofjord to observe on the way. Upon arriving, we were glad to see much open green grass to picnic and enjoy the view; the museums are also located close by. We first stopped at Fram (polar ship) Museum, but decided to skip Kon-Tiki Museum. After that, we wanted to see the viking ship museum and the norwegian folk museum, but we quickly discovered after consulting the map that those 2 places were located a bit of a walk away. After enjoying a nice, pleasant walk we arrived at the museums. They were both very enjoyable and could spend hours there. There are many homes and locals located on this Peninsula of Oslo, which i was surprised to discover; however overall we had a fabulous time and really enjoyed having a visit here. I would recommend to other people who come here on vacation. By the way, the Oslo pass is worth the money in order to get entrance to all the museums and transport here!
