He was kind enough to take on the repair of damaged drywall (various gouges made courtesy of my brother trying disassemble a work bench in the garage that my Dad had nailed into the drywall). After Brent applied the "mud" on two separate visits, he took the time to explain to me what I needed to do for the sanding and painting. Brent's carpentry skills really shone when he began repairing the multiple places of dry rot on the the front of the house. He took the time to explain why and what he was doing so that I understood how to protect the wood and take steps to minimize future damage. After a detailed survey, Brent is now going to tackle the rest of the problem areas, which have accumlated over the years that my Dad was unable to attend to them. I am so grateful that his skills will restore my parents' home. I encourage you to give Brent a call if you want or need the services of an expert carpenter. His handiwork will definitely add value to your project.

I have been meaning to write this review for several weeks now, but it has been difficult to try to…read morerelive the trauma brought upon by my previous contractor.  In short, my previous contractor screwed us.  He did not get the permits or the inspections that he said he did.  He basically took our money, abandoned our project, and escaped to Mexico.  In short, we had a house that was in terrible condition and deemed unlivable by San Francisco.  My husband and I were screwed financial and emotionally.  It was an extremely hard time and the pain still lingers but it is finally fading away, thanks to Steve.   Steve and Bartkus Remodel stepped into a very challenging situation, one that very few contractors wanted to touch.  We had a house that was poorly "remodeled", needed permits, had to be remedied, and all while my husband and I were financially strapped.  Steve went into immediate action and took the charge in navigating San Francisco's Building Department's requirements in our unique situation.  San Francisco has very strict building codes.  I've learned from this process; you need someone who VERY knowledgeable and determined to figure out proper solutions.   Steve and his crew expertly worked on many of items in our home.  He worked closely with our structural engineer to bring our housing structure up to code (we went from a closed to open concept and also wanted to legalized our ground floor level, so this was major).  The structural work included adding and fixing various structural posts, adding structural plywood, and performing concrete testing.  Fireproofing was also added, along with sheetrock and an extensive paint job.  Him and his crew remodeled our bathrooms which also includes tiling and creating necessary soffits.  In the interest of wanting to keep this review relatively short, these are just a few things Steve helped us with.   I was most impressed with Steve's communication.  He was extremely easy to reach, always getting back to us within a day and had no problems taking phones calls on the weekends.  Any issues we had he always corrected immediately.  Not everything goes perfectly, but Steve was receptive to all feedback and would try his best to make sure it is perfection.    Although Steve came as a recommendation to us, Steve treated my family like his family.  He knew of our dire financial situation, but was only concerned with getting us into our home.  He happily worked with us regarding compensation.  I and my husband will be forever grateful to Steve and Bartkus Remodel.  They turned my nightmare into my pride and joy.   If you would like more information about Steve and Bartkus remodel, I am happy to answer any further questions.  Please feel free to send me a message.

One project involved locating and repairing dry rot under our floors, and the other also involved dry rot, but also the installation of a beautiful new, larger front entry with double glass doors that transformed our home by bringing in so much more natural light. What sets Ohana apart is the professionalism, honesty, and communication of owner Kimo. Because the extent of the dry rot wasn't known at the start, Kimo kept us informed every step of the way as work progressed. He clearly explained what was being discovered, what needed to be done, and how it would affect the scope and cost of the project. We always knew what to expect, which gave us tremendous confidence and peace of mind. Kimo and his team are always professional, friendly, honest, and completely trustworthy. It's rare to find a contractor who combines such high-quality workmanship with excellent communication and integrity. Whether the job is large or small, Ohana Construction approaches every project with the same dedication, attention to detail, and determination to do the job right. We have come to trust Kimo completely and would not hesitate to hire Ohana Construction again. We highly recommend Ohana Construction.

We can't believe this is our house! We've had a couple of friends hire him now to do their projects! Travis walked into our patched-together 50 year old house and understood our vision for opening up the floor plan and letting more light in. He worked within our budget to draw up a quote that met our vision, while also recommending items that could easily be isolated and saved for a later project date without having to re-do any of this initial work (like refacing the fireplace, re-doing the back patio). He was patient and helpful through the architect and permitting phase and had great recommendations for local cabinet, tile and plumbing stores that allowed us to get great quality finishes within our budget. Every sub-contractor that he brought in for specialized pieces like our master shower tile, shower glass, flooring and insulation were friendly and did absolutely top of the line work. He is also very clever at figuring out solutions to curveballs that our house threw and could take our crazy Pinterest pictures and piece them together to build custom solutions like the bench in the master shower. Overall our project included a major overhaul and upgrade to our electrical panel / electrical service to the street, major plumbing upgrades, new windows, a master bathroom addition and a complete interior paint/flooring refresh and remodel including a complete kitchen remodel (with removing load bearing walls to create an open concept) and hall bath remodel. Our house of 16 years is now a sturdy, safe home we can spend the next 50 years in - Travis didn't cut any corners and understood that this needs to be our dream home that will last "generations" as he put it. He's an honest guy with old fashioned values and you just won't find a better team to take on your project.

I have done four significant remodels, but none to this extent (this one ended up almost a total rebuild), and never before have I felt better about a contractor at the end of a job than I did at the beginning!! I consider myself fairly fanatical in terms of finish detail and quality, but Toran's expectations and standards exceed even mine. He would rework "flaws" that I would never have noticed because he felt something wasn't perfect. I've never worked with a contractor with such exacting standards; it was such a pleasure to know we were getting the best possible work. Toran's people skills match his building skills. He had a very collaborative relationship with our architect and all the tricky design/build aspects were worked out flawlessly. He had an excellent working relationship with every subcontractor he hired; the neighbors loved him, and even the town's building inspector raved about him (if anyone has done work in Sausalito, you know how rare this is!). And equally as important, despite many stressful aspects of the job, he always stayed good natured, optimistic, and never passed his stress and/or challenges on to us. He did an incredible job meeting schedule expectations, despite a six week schedule impact of unexpected foundation work that was required. And he was very accurate in estimating the cost of the job. Toran is everything a home owner could want in a contractor!
