Lily's Legacy Senior Dog Sanctuary. Thank you OHANA CONSTRUCTION INC.

When the dogs of Lilys Legacy Senior Dog Sanctuary needed a new home we contacted OHANA CONSTRUCTION INC. Not a day goes by that we aren't thankful we did. Kimo Garrigan and his crew were efficient, clean, and SO professional. If we had any concerns during or following construction, Kimo was there to answer, address, or alleviate our worries. His crew was efficient, and with one phone call, on site to follow up if we had any problem. I would recommend this company to anyone needing the services of a contractor. You can TRUST them.

Kimo and his team are top drawer in every way. They are all friendly, easy to work with, flexible and responsive. Quality of work is excellent, quotes are fair (not the cheapest in town, and not the most expensive, but in that sweet spot in the middle) and his subs are excellent for the most part. Our project was extensive, ripping out two bathrooms, a mudroom, a guest room and some closets. He did a nice job of avoiding too many extra costs, and stayed on the schedule we laid out that allowed us back into the house. The bathroom was an extremely complex design, and they executed it flawlessly (see the picture of the main bathroom with the round stainless soaking tub). Finally, Kimo is local to Petaluma, and spends a lot of time and effort supporting local causes including Rebuilding Together Petaluma. That was a major factor in us deciding to go with Ohana.

Travis held my hand through every decision, was always available to answer my questions, was very honest and hard-working. We are so thrilled with how it turned out and we will be using him and his team for more projects in the future. His guys, Ryan, Jaime, & everyone else did a fantastic job. Every person who walked into my home, has worked with Travis for the last 10 to 20 years. That made me very trusting of who was in my home when I was there and when I wasn't there. It is very challenging to find a trustworthy contractor who is not only good at communicating, but is also very good at their job. Thank you, Travis and team!

We can't believe this is our house! We've had a couple of friends hire him now to do their projects! Travis walked into our patched-together 50 year old house and understood our vision for opening up the floor plan and letting more light in. He worked within our budget to draw up a quote that met our vision, while also recommending items that could easily be isolated and saved for a later project date without having to re-do any of this initial work (like refacing the fireplace, re-doing the back patio). He was patient and helpful through the architect and permitting phase and had great recommendations for local cabinet, tile and plumbing stores that allowed us to get great quality finishes within our budget. Every sub-contractor that he brought in for specialized pieces like our master shower tile, shower glass, flooring and insulation were friendly and did absolutely top of the line work. He is also very clever at figuring out solutions to curveballs that our house threw and could take our crazy Pinterest pictures and piece them together to build custom solutions like the bench in the master shower. Overall our project included a major overhaul and upgrade to our electrical panel / electrical service to the street, major plumbing upgrades, new windows, a master bathroom addition and a complete interior paint/flooring refresh and remodel including a complete kitchen remodel (with removing load bearing walls to create an open concept) and hall bath remodel. Our house of 16 years is now a sturdy, safe home we can spend the next 50 years in - Travis didn't cut any corners and understood that this needs to be our dream home that will last "generations" as he put it. He's an honest guy with old fashioned values and you just won't find a better team to take on your project.

Once I brought Perry Home from the hospital I think I realized just how hideous the interior of my house really was. We had already redone a bathroom but I couldn't stand the site of my yellow & brown kitchen. I turned to the app "Nextdoor "for recommendations in Marin. After about 8 interviews, my very last one in fact, happened to be Ed Roualdes. Not only was he the kindest of them all, he seemed the most professional. We started working up plans for my kitchen/dining area and before you know it dreams started becoming a reality. I think my favorite part about Ed is that he is a "yes" man. I came at Ed with new ideas all the time and throughout the entire renovation process I never heard the word No! Ed & Steve transformed my dream kitchen into a reality in just a few months! The quality of their work is flawless. They went above and beyond to ensure that everything was done with the future safety and well being of our 19 month old daughter. Things I never would have thought of! We've always heard that renovations can cause lots of fights and stress. Well I'm happy to report that my husband and I made it through just fine. Ed and his crew made everything pretty enjoyable and stress free from start to finish. They cleaned up everyday before leaving, which is a big thing for me. As happy as I am to have my beautiful kitchen back, I will say that we will all miss seeing Ed around here everyday. He really, truly has become a member of our family. * I've attached lots if pictures. I believe their work speaks for itself!

Then, in September, I received a call from someone asking if I was still interested in a proposal. It made me feel like my project wasn't big enough. They finally sent the proposal at the beginning of September with apologies. So four months later I received a proposal that was 20% higher than the next highest. I think they were pricing themselves out of a project they didn't want to do. They could have just told me so in June. Today, with a different contractor we started the work of replacing the 2,500 SF driveway plus we are adding a patio and replacing our 50 foot public sidewalk and street curb for less than the total from Sonoma-Marin provided for just the driveway. I think Sonoma-Marin needs to treat ALL potential customers with the same respect they treat customers with bigger projects.

I hired Mark for a medium-sized remodeling project (about 6 weeks) . He provided a low estimate…read morecompared to other bids. He then said that his workers were all covered by Worker's Comp, among other benefits, and that he paid a fair wage, and that he was the most ethical contractor in the industry, resulting in his workers' being highly productive and efficient leading to shorter project times. This sealed the deal for me. Furthermore, he claimed that the extra 30% or so that he was billing for his workers, was due of the worker's comp insurance, which only he provided to his workers (as opposed to the many unscrupulous other contractors that were around). As a property owner, you could be held liable for workers' injuries if the contractor did not carry worker's comp, and so, I agreed to Mark's deal. Within a few days, Mark had exceeded the estimate he had quoted, and was very difficult to get hold of. Furthermore, his workers would come and go at all times of the day (between 7:00 am and 8:00 pm) and I simply lost track of how many "cooks" were in the kitchen. As of last count, I noticed some 15+ names on the invoices, and some would appear for a couple of hours, and then disappear. But Mark would send me invoices claiming that his workers spent the entire day at the property - which was simply untrue. Mark would not be interested in even listening to me or investigating my grievances. Instead, he would brag that he did me a big favor by accepting my project, and that he typically only did multi-million dollar gigs, and not pittances like mine. Long story short, the project budget exceeded the estimate by more than 100%. Mark became extremely aggressive and feisty, and it was impossible to work or reason with him. I hired a Private Investigator to find out who this person really was -- like a Dr. Jekyl Mr. Hyde. Turns out that he had been sued for fraud, but more importantly, the whole worker's comp, fairness, ethical contractor, and so on, charade, was ALL ONE BIG LIE. It also appears that Mark may have left the Better Business Bureau due to bad reviews and that he may have hired a reputation defending company to increase his Yelp reviews to 5 stars by questionable tactics. Good Guy Builders license has been suspended for Worker's Comp violations and is under investigation. After my PI reported this, I found on the CSLB site: "License is under suspension for failure to comply with Workers Comp. A workers´ compensation certificate or exemption statement may have been received by the Board but not yet processed. Once the certificate or exemption statement is processed the suspension will be lifted retroactively to the effective date of the certificate or exemption statement. Ask the contractor for proof of worker's compensation and contact the insurance company to verify coverage." Here is the URL: https://www.cslb.ca.gov/OnlineServices/CheckLicenseII/LicenseDetail.aspx?LicNum=1016932 Please see image below. This is one of the greatest betrayals where I was charged an arm and a leg, and told a romantic story of workers being taken good care of, and so on, all the while, when Mark was simply pocketing the money that was supposed to cover his workers' safety and well being. Such greed, deception, and dishonesty, in my opinion, does not deserve a second chance. You decide whether you want to hire this company and deal with Mark. --- Addendum to Mr. Santosh R's note: 1. I am a real person. I was threatened by Mark that I would be sued if I posted anything negative on Yelp. 2. Yes, I did edit my posts before finally settling on one. Anyone in my position would do the same. 3. Finally, the facts remain unchanged. Good Guy Builder's license is under suspension and this may be independently verified on the CSLB website (see link). Likewise, the lawsuits against them may be independently verified. People like Santosh and Mark are the real culprits who boost their yelp ratings in a manner that skews it in their favor - by attacking anyone who posts negative reviews, and threatening those in dispute with defamation lawsuits. Do not believe anything Santosh or Mark say. The suspension is more than ample evidence that Good Guy Builders is a crooked business and not one that you should be patronizing.
