We were really excited to try Schaf's Matcha. -- big mistake!!!!! One of the most watered down Matchas I've had in a long time. Very disappointing. Both the banana pudding Matcha and the regular iced Matcha had no flavor. For $14 dollars total, they were really skimping on the matcha powder. Hoping their coffee is a better experience. *The* aesthetic little matcha shop that is single-handedly making Midtown a better place to live and work. If you're in the area, be sure to check out Schaf Shop. Schaf Shop brews up solid coffee and matcha, and their specialty drinks are definitely worth trying. My favorite so far is the Banana Pudding Matcha, which they top with a nilla wafer and reminds me of the banana pudding matchas I know and love in SF. If there's one thing I don't like about their drinks, it's that they're on the slightly sweeter side. If you mix them really well, it's not too bad, and in general the owners do a great job of mixing otherwise strong flavors like rose into their drinks. In terms of vibe, the spot feels a bit more like West Coast cafes in the sense that the baristas are really friendly and are up for chatting with you. It's a weird mix of skate shop and bookstore, with some books and a handful of games around. There's not a lot of space to sit and work, but they've got some outlets and a bathroom so it's definitely workable. All in all, it's in my favorite recent places. I found Schāf on a walk last week and have been 5 times since... it's that good!! Their matcha is some of the best I have had in Atlanta, if not the best. The owner is genuinely one of the most authentic and kind people I've met along with all of the baristas. The flavor list for syrups is extensive and I never have a hard time finding something good. My absolute fav is the Strawberry Shortcake Lo Ro Matcha. The coffee is also phenomenal. Also... I think they have some seriously amazing prices!! Check them out. read more

Hands down the BEST matcha in all of Atlanta (and I've gone EVERYWHERE, y'all). The combinations are incredible and there's so much to choose from. The baristas are so welcoming and personable, they make you feel like you've known them your whole life. Apart from the laidback ambiance of the skate shop and bookshelves, there is a fair amount of seating if you're there to enjoy your drink a while. I ordered a strawberry matcha with a new coconut milk they had just procured and it was so smooth and delightful to my tastebuds, I didn't want it to end. My boyfriend got the banana matcha and felt the same way about his! The only downside is the parking situation since it's in the city, but it's more than worth the short walk from street parking or a parking deck. read more

I recently visited Schāf Shop while in Atlanta for the World Cup and was initially drawn in by the beautiful new decor and cozy atmosphere. However, my experience was disappointing given the shop's 5 star rating. While the setting is lovely, the coffee fell short; my flat white was poorly made and lacked proper coffee flavor, tasting mostly of milk. It was also a letdown to have coffee served in takeout cups despite the inviting dine-in environment. I expected a much higher quality brew based on the shop's reputation. read more

By far this is the best coffee shop I've ever been to (tied with Land of a Thousand Hills Coffee at 1140 Spring St). Atlanta is winning the coffee battle in the US. This place has a really cool interior complete a skate board store in the middle of it. This place also has some cool specialty coffee. Omg. This place is amazing. Things I love: 1. The matcha and chai latte I got that were so yummy! 2. The owner/operators are so friendly and service forward. 3. The space is cozy and inviting with lots of seating for a more intimate setting. 4. Menu has options but it's not overwhelming. $6 mini pizza ---- say less. 5. We love to visit midtown coffee shops while we walk our dogs and we rotate through the good ones! Schāf has some amazing drinks! I especially love their banana pudding matcha--I get it half sweet and it's perfect! We also went when it was Pokémon's anniversary and they made custom drinks--I had a cherry matcha with a white chocolate cold foam and it was incredible! Love that you can bring your dogs in to grab a drink or enjoy the vibe. They did a great job creating their own coffee house vibe. read more

It is good to see the Schaf Shop in a permanent home, and to have another coffee option in Midtown. The space is lovely with both indoor and outdoor seating. Staff were friendly. However there were no packets of natural sugar to be had when I visited - I've never been to a coffee shop that had run out of sugar. The water dispenser was also empty - it seems like attention is not being paid to the details. My espresso was watery. It seems the emphasis is on making flavored drinks. However prices are reasonable and the ham and cheese croissant I had was excellent. Hopefully the baristas will be able to make a proper espresso in time. read more

I was there on a Saturday morning and I think they forgot about my food, which happens and I wasn't the slightest bit upset. When I checked on it, they (I assume the owner) apologized profusely and gave me a a fully punched loyalty card for my next visit. Stuff like that happens, but what a great way to handle it! My only issue is that the company was more concerned about social issues than the product they sold. The service was fine. There were no paper towels, or dividers between urinals for that matter, in the bathroom. The pour over was fine, but I don't know anything about the origin or roast of the beans. Stopped in on a Tuesday morning on my way downtown. Was met with a friendly greeting and had a quick chat about recommendations on the menu. I'm actually not a big coffee drinker but I wanted to support a woman/LGBTQ owned business, and I love the effort to create a wider variety of community spaces. I ordered an iced mocha based on the information provided. I was very happy with my choice which is saying a lot because the bitter flavor of most coffee/espresso products is not usually my thing. I thought the prices were very competitive too. The only small challenge was parking but that is the standard for everything in this neighborhood, it is not unique to the business and it was worth a trip around the block to find a parking spot. I wish I had more time to hang out in the space provided. I will definitely be making my way back as much as I can. read more
