The Lazy Toaster - Breakfast menu

It pains me to leave a mere two-star review but I couldn't find much to like here. The quaint…read moreambience, friendly service (we were one of the first guests to arrive on a Friday morning mid-May) and fresh brewed decaf were the highlights. The food, which is most important, was a big disappointment. I am a cinnamon roll connoisseur and was so excited to try the rolls that past Yelpers raved about. They were out of caramel today so we ordered the grilled roll with pecans and homemade buttercream frosting. It looked dry and tasted even drier. Barely warm, flourey and tasteless. The frosting was the best part. The menu of choices looks wonderful and diverse for a small cafe. I was delighted to see shrimp and grits. The skillet was very small, the food was hot (a plus) but it was heavy on the grits, which lacked flavor and space on shrimp (only 4), sausage and sauce. I ate the toppings with half the grits and left the rest. My husband ordered the hoagie sandwich with hash browns. His comment was "a lot of bread and minimal filling" with "luke warm" hash browns that were more spongy than crispy. It's hard to go wrong with breakfast, but somehow Lazy Toaster has missed the mark. The concept is fun, the menu is great, yet the recipes and preparation could use some major improvements. The tab ($41 for two) was not bad, but was high for the quality. We liked the decor yet felt the cleanliness was lacking (sticky floors and no paper towels in the bathroom). A breakfast place in East Tawas is a plus; I hope this cafe commits to some improvements and stays around.

This is a cute little breakfast place and I'm so glad it's here. My friends ordered the Panini…read morebreakfast and I ordered just eggs and toast. The service is good and the food quality is good. Probably the only complaint is that the hashbrowns aren't brown enough, but that's my particular taste. On busy days, I recommend getting there before 9 o'clock, it gets pretty busy and it's small so the weight can be a little bit long. I wish they had a few more healthy options. I like avocado toast but there's is lacking. It's just a piece of toast with some avocado spread on top, no seasoning, very bland. Also kind of small.

I visited this place about a year ago on a whim. Went up to my friends cottage in Comins and…read morearrived a bit earlier than them. I was hungry and had time to kill so I figured I would stop in the only bar in town. I walked in wearing my business casual attire as I had left straight from work for this trip. Sure, I got the immediate record stop/skip, turnaround and stare from everyone, but that was expected; this is a small town, afterall. While I did get the staredown, I never felt uncomfortable as I sat by myself at the bar. Hell, even a couple patrons talked to me for a bit! This place had a surprisingly decent amount of craft beer on tap. I think I was drinking some sort of IPA from Rochester Mills or Griffin Claw. Beer was cold and priced very well. During my few days in Comins, I visited Knot Hole probably 4-5 times. While we all mostly drank up there, we did order some food. I personally had some sort of sandwich the first visit. Don't recall exactly what it was but it was pretty good! Another night I decided to order their hawaiian pizza since I heard it was different than any other. Well, it came out with maraschino cherries on it, along with the standard ham and pineapple. It was surprisingly delicious and even had a drunken friend say "it saved my life". At any rate, I am making my yearly trip back up here soon and am definitely stopping by again!

Stopped in for a drink and bite with my Asian/American GF while traveling, was around the time things started to reopen from COVID. Place had a few customers but not at all busy, grabbed 2 seats at bar sat for 20 minutes completely ignored with no acknowledgement, or even eye contact. Bartender by name of Rodney complete with his Confederate Flag ball cap was present behind bar entire time, chit chatting and serving other customers while blatantly ignoring us. After that length of time being ignored and giving benefit of doubt, we realized what we felt might be happening was really happening, and left. Zero Stars
