Probably better that what I'd get at a diner, but I suspect you could get some at least as good at McDonalds most days. I'll check it out again and maybe try some of the fancy drinks.

It was surprisingly busy for a random Saturday in September, and I was actually surprised when the hostess asked if we had a reservation. It took a few minutes to get us seated, and the wait for our food was on the longer side, but a very large table had been seated right before us, so it was understandable. The inside of the restaurant has clearly been thoughtfully updated. The calming teal colors and rustic decor give the space a charming, relaxed feel, and you can tell the owner put a lot of thought into redoing the space. The food was on the pricey side for breakfast, but it was delicious. I had the farmer's plate, and while I wish the plate itself had been a little larger so the food wasn't piled on top of itself, everything tasted great. The kids' portions were surprisingly generous as well. One small detail that I really appreciated as a parent was the bathroom setup. The sinks are low enough for small children to use comfortably, which is something you don't always see in restaurants but makes a big difference when you have little ones with you. Overall, this was a really pleasant experience. There were a couple of small things that could have been better, but the quality of the food, thoughtful atmosphere, friendly staff, and family-friendly touches made this a place I'd happily visit again.

Walls were…read morecovered in very well-worn carpet, the place was almost too dim to see in (in the afternoon), the beer selection was very poor. I think I had a Blatz. I didn't order food--I could do just as well eating something off the sidewalk, I thought. Inspired by the good reviews here, I went back this week. What a change! New wood paneling on the walls, a very clean atmosphere overall with lots of natural light. And good craft beers. I ordered the chicken-bacon-ranch salad and was impressed. Lettuce was fresh and finely cut, meat was tender and generously portioned, with enough bacon to provide an accent but not dominate the salad. Salads at small bar-and-grill operations are sometimes a dicey bet, but Mio Saloon nailed it. Don't get me wrong--this place hasn't been yuppified. It's still a down to earth small town bar catering to a biker clientele. It also seems to be a spot where locals just meet to have lunch and chat, dragging the kids along. The vibe might be different at night. I get up to Mio a few times a year, and I plan to find out next time I do.

But for the last couple of years and particularly this year Audie and Daryl, owners, have stepped up their game catapulting the food, service, and atmosphere at The Villager into outer space!! Service is always warm and friendly. The diner is always immaculate and the buzz in the room is lite and friendly; you can feel it. The food is exceptional!! Coffee is fresh brewed and hot. Any food item off the menu will be delicious and prepared to order. On this experience my wife had the country fried steak that included white gravy, hash browns, and two eggs with diner-baked sourdough toast. She loves country-fried steak and has ordered it from many diners and restaurants. But when she tried it here from The Villager exclaimed it was "the best I've ever eaten!" I had the Denver omelette (diced ham, green peppers, onions, mushrooms) sautéed into a couple eggs with cheddar cheese into a fantastic omelette. It's served with crispy hash browns and two slices of homemade bread. My favorites are rye or sourdough toast. As I was ordering my omelette Stephanie, our server, suggested adding cream cheese along with the other ingredients so I agreed. This was the best tasting omelette I have ever eaten!! Thank you Stephanie!!! Watching all the associates at The Villager working together AND enjoying each other and their work is special and not necessarily witnessed in other places. After breakfast I walked to Audie to compliment her and the amazing meals we had just eaten and she passed along my compliments to her servers and chef deflecting my praise to them! Audie gets IT! She is a tremendous person and I know The Villager will be a home run for as long as she and Daryl own it.
