Had to wait just a bit on a Sunday morning- this place was hopping! We were able to look at a menu while we waited (also looking at the amazing food coming out of the kitchen) so we had some ideas. Our server was friendly, quick and efficient. I ordered the Beechwood Cafe Granola, which was a huge portion of house made granola over yogurt with lots of super sweet blueberries. The decor was "up north" cute with local art on the walls and really cool vases made of tree bark. Excellent and worth the wait! read more

Total gem up north. Best food in the area, hands down. My perfectly cooked eggs were accompanied by delicious greens topped with an amazing salad dressing. I love greens with breakfast and haven't found much of that since moving to MI, outside of a few places in cities (Ann Arbor, Detroit, Lansing). Beechwood Cafe is an excellent addition to Roscommon. Finally they have a phenomenal breakfast/ brunch restaurant in the area. The homemade baked challah bread is heavenly. Everything exceeded our expectations. My only complaint would be the eggs Benedict was not prepared the traditional way and I'm a sucker for poached eggs. They did not offer poached eggs and I thought that was odd. It's definitely not a deal breaker and next time I won't go that route. The service was fast, staff were very friendly, and the restaurant was clean. read more

The place is phenomenal! We were hungry while driving on the highway heading back home and did a quick Google search of brunch spots nearby. We're lucky we got hungry where we did because we were only one exit away from this treasure! We walked in and were promptly seated at a table with gorgeous natural light and an even more gorgeous bouquet of fresh flowers! They also play lovely soft jazz music, so you can still enjoy the atmosphere and the company of your loved ones. The food here was amazing! We had the Beechwood BBQ burger and Breakfast Sandwich for brunch. The burger was piled high with sauce, fried onions, and pulled pork in this super yummy bbq sauce. We made the breakfast sandwich with over medium eggs, and it also included super crispy smoky bacon and fresh green avocado, all on top fry bread buns. What I love is that the owners came by to check on everyone, and stayed to chat with us as well. Matt is the Executive Chef while Lisa is the Pastry Chef. I loved hearing their story of how they opened this spot up two years ago, and they made the experience all the more worth it. Thank you so much, Matt and Lisa! We'll be telling our friends and family to visit, and we can't wait to come visit town again to stop by! read more

Darn I forgot to take pictures of my excellent Chicken and Waffles. Two Little Belgian waffles with a fried chicken breast filet in between. Served with blueberries on top, a berry compote, and three slices of very tasty bacon. No doggy bags for me. Of course Mom is another story. She had the French toast made with challah bread. All breads are made at Beechwood. Topped off with two coffees and we are set for the rest of the day. Today we got a bonus of entertainment--a parade. You could say we were a captive audience since exiting the parking lot was blocked during the parade. This is the Michigan Fireman's Memorial weekend in the Village of Roscommon. It's a time to reflect on all Michigan firefighters who have lost their lives in the line of duty. On a side note, I think they need to change the name to be more gender neutral. Maybe change fireman to firefighters. Yeah I know tradition. It's not about tradition but ensuring that the general public recognizes all people who put their life on the line. Back to Beechwood. All the staff are so friendly. From the young man who seated us to the chef who had to help us open the door--keep reading. I love small towns, but I miss the city life with its enormous amounts of variety. Thank goodness I have the best of both worlds, spending summers in Northern Michigan and having a permanent residence in Birmingham, AL. Several staff members including both chefs Matt and Lisa stopped by our table to be friendly and ensure everything was to our liking. Chef Matt mentioned to Mom that she can ask for a smaller portion of French toast. My reply, "Then she wouldn't have any to take home." Now that's a tradition we would not want to break. I like that you can pay at your table using the QR code on the paper tab. So 21st century. We took our time drinking the last of our coffee til the parade was done. As we were leaving I couldn't open the door. Looks like they need a new door handle. Chef Lisa happen to be outside and was able to open the door. Phew! For a second I thought I was going to have to order another meal. Then I definitely would have a doggie bag. Hmm I caught Mom eyeing the breakfast tacos that other patrons were being served. Guess those are on our Beechwood Cafe bucket list now. read more

Beechwood is the best breakfast and lunch place in the area. Chef Matt has a great, upscale menu with healthier options or the usual skillet, smoothies, pancakes or chicken and waffles. The owners/chefs always take the time to say hi. Chef Lisa makes THE BEST sea salt chocolate chip cookies I have ever tasted. That is, if you can get some before someone buys them all. What a lucky break! We were heading up to Harbor Springs recently & usually stop for a bite in West Branch. But my wife was on a work call so I just kept going & by the time her call was done we were near Roscommon so decided to head into town to find someplace to eat. Beechwood Cafe looked perfect. And WAS! Your hosts, Matt & Lisa have lived all over & collected delicious recipes in their travels. EVERYTHING is yummy & mostly homemade with revolving dishes & sandwiches. My wife devoured her Mac & cheese, I devoured my chicken sandwich. Matt does the kitchen, Lisa does the front of the house, which is clean, artsy and welcoming, right down to the soft jazz enhancing your meal. Oh, and the coffee is spectacular too, as well as the desserts. Finally, I can't forget to mention the delightful young gal who was our server, Raygan. Total pro and a real doll. We can't wait to return - maybe for brunch next time, which they are known for. read more

Located in a strip mall, this is a lovely neighborhood place that was recommended to us for breakfast by someone in town. We walked in just before they stopped serving breakfast, but they were kind enough to still serve us without an attitude, which is sadly often the case. We were seated and able to order fairly quickly, The food came within a blink of an eye! I wish I had taken a photo... but I inhaled my breakfast. One might think that a couple of eggs, potatoes, toast, and a side salad is all that much to brag about, right? WRONG! Not the way Beechwood does it! The eggs were perfectly cooked. The potatoes are seared with a perfect garlic seasoning and browned to perfection. The salad was crisp butter lettuce with homemade basil vinaigrette-- (I don't really love basil, and I adored this!) and the toast-- thick cut challah with homey butter and a side of sweet jam. They were literally both the best we have ever had any where! Uniqueness of flavors & attention to detail with mini salads with homemade basil/lavender vinaigrette dressing + fries. My family and I were visiting the area for the weekend and decided to revisit beechwood for the second time. First experience, impeccable! Great food, good vibes, decent service. Today, disappointing. 30 minute wait was over an hour, we get it.. they were busy. We got our table and had our drink orders in right away. The restaurant was chaos and insanely hot temperature wise. Took almost 15 minutes to get our food order in. We went without drinks for over 30 minutes.. When the male owner came out and asked how things were, we were honest about our experience. It was BAD BAD BAD! He proceeded to scream out in front of the restaurant that whoever had our table needed to get us our check so we could "clear the table". Most of us weren't even done eating yet. I have a 7 year old who gets very scared when people yell and my 5 year old was equally as nervous for the grown male stranger yelling at us. The entire restaurant went dead silent. His wife came out and tried to cool the situation down. She's great, he doesn't deserve her. Offered to comp our bill (not what we were asking for) and said that her husband was not supposed to leave the kitchen. My 7 year old was taken to the car and had a full blown panic attack because of the male owner's actions. Under no circumstances was this acceptable. Give your business to literally ANY other place. He does not deserve your patronage. And if you have any complaints, please for the love of god don't express it. Being berated like children in front of a whole restaurant when we had a $70+ bill ruined our whole trip. To the female owner, please get your husband some help. I would hate to see him ruin your restaurant from his violent outbursts read more

First time coming the Beechwood Cafe. The food was very delicious and I greatly appreciate that the Chef comes out to talk to the customers and ask how the food was. It's very rare to see this at a restaurant and it was great! The ambiance of the restaurant was wonderful. I love the decor and atmosphere very friendly and inviting.
