Showed up at 11:15. Were told they were no longer seating for breakfast but we could come back at noon for lunch. Went to a few shops, came back at noon, and were told they were changing over to lunch and no food would be available for 20 minutes or so. The lunch menu is sandwiches, burgers, and salads. I must begin this review by saying, this has been the most anticipated opening and tasting I've had EVER. The head chef/owner Matt Cassell has done an INCREDIBLE job with community outreach, research and promotion in a way I have never seen executed. He posted menu items and videos of himself cooking on his Facebook page and truly made an effort to reach out to locals and try area restaurants to get a taste of what is offered in roscommon and surrounding small towns. His dedication and attention to detail encompasses more than just what he does in the kitchen. The building he brought back to life is in a strip mall across from family fare right in town. It was once roscommon brewing co and had been left vacant for years. My husband I are were SO blown away from the menu and interior aesthetic. A shabby chic overall vibe with a lake/rustic influence. Like a cozy modern cabin. The front porch decor is charming. There's a dedicated parking lot. There is nothing else like beechwood in the area, this could easily be a petoskey or traverse city dining experience!! We went for brunch on a Tuesday (last week) they weren't slammed this particular day but they were busy. We were greeted and seated basically immediately. I took a peek at the front display case of delicious and tantalizingly presented baked goods (compliments of Lisa the owner/pastry chef) we sat under the tv and had a good view of the layout of the restaurant. Nice finishes, open floor plan with two rooms with seating; both table and booth options. We have been drooling over the short rib Benedict and we both ordered that. I wanted to share two different meals but my husband truly didn't want to share the short rib dish lol the portion was HUGE so it's shareable and every single aspect of that dish was elevated. Plating and flavor was on point. From scratch hollandaise sauce, slow roasted 3 potato hash, and a salad with a zesty and fresh green goddess dressing. The short rib melted in our mouths and basically fell apart as we cut each bite. It wasn't served on standard bread either it was on a freshly baked traditional Jewish bread called challah. YUMMMMMM I will say that the service was perfect. All employees including both owners checked in with us and visited all tables, having small talk and getting feedback on everyone's experience. Our server was very young and seemed inexperienced, she did wonderful, but she accidentally lost our meal ticket when we ordered coffee to start. Once she noticed this happened she explained and apologized profusely. She offered a free baked good to enjoy while we waited. We hadn't noticed too long of a wait and understood it was an honest mistake. They've only been opened a month and the staff is still learning the groove. No biggy. We got an apology from everyone and there was no way we could be mad. Matt came out and brought us a fresh cinnamon roll (which we were eyeballing) and we took that to go. I almost never post reviews on yelp, that being said the my experiences at the Beechwood had inspired me to do so. From the amazing dressing on the side salad that comes with the burrito, to the perfectly baked quick-breads to the always creative and inspiring specials, this place is rock solid. My wife and I live in Traverse City, but we have family in Roscommon and after hearing them rave about Beechwood for a year, we finally joined them for brunch one day. Since then we have made the drive many times, and not always to eat with family. The Beechwood is a truly special place, the portions are hearty and the scratch cooking speaks to a level of care that translates all the way to the service you get. Having lived on both coasts I can say with full confidence this is my favorite spot for a brunch/lunch. Well worth checking out, you wont regret it. Thank you Beechwood Cafe! I was in this restaurant on this past Sunday with a few of my buddies. The food was excellent, however, there was a table near us with a man, 2 women and 2 small children. The place was busy and chef Matt came out and asked the man how everything was. The man replied "we aren't going to talk about it here". Chef Matt stopped in his tracks, backed up and questioned the man what was wrong. He explained that he understood that they were busy, they waited for 60 min to get a table and 60 min for food. He explained that they were not offered refills on their coffee and one of the children needed another drink. Matt replied... yeah, well that wait is what it is to get in here with a rude and condescending tone. My eyes met with one of the women and she was mortified trying to shield her children from the drama. Matt went into the kitchen and yelled "who's got table 6, I want them out of here". It was unfortunate that the whole restaurant heard Matt's rant. Chef Lisa came out and tried to soothe the situation stating that "Matt is not allowed out of the kitchen". Such an unfortunate situation to witness from a business owner. You can have the best food in the world, but if the service is poor with unconscionable customer service equals disaster. read more

This was sent on 10/7 and we received no response from them. Hi there! Thank you for lunch, we just ordered from there and wanted to give you feedback as it's our first order from you. We ordered the following and next to it is our "review". We wanted to give you the courtesy to privately tell you what we thought, as it's our first time, and we are always willing to try again! 1.) Kid's Cheeseburger w/ ff + drink The burger taste was awesome, it was cooked and shaped well and the caramelization on the outside was great (yes, I totally sampled it). The bun was perfect. However, when I asked what came on it at ordering, the woman on the phone told me "just cheese and burger", as such I asked for a side of ketchup and mustard. However, the burger came with some kind of sauce on it (it was good) but, *especially with kids* we need to know what is on it. If there is a Beechwood sauce on it, it should be on the menu. I had to remind them at checkout about the side of ketch & must. No big deal, but these are little things that you'll want to double check especially on take outs if you keep going with them. Fries were good, kiddo said he wished they were crispier. I thought they tasted great. He also wanted root beer, which wasn't available but no big deal. 2.) Nashville Chicken Mac-n-Cheese It did not look as I imagined in my head. I was thinking it would be creamier and that the chicken would be sliced. The chicken looked more like a pre-prepared piece of chicken (like the Tyson bagged kind at the grocery store) than a fresh piece newly grilled. Also, the whole strips of bacon on it were a little much. We would probably ask for them to be crushed next time if possible, but they were cooked perfectly and tasted great .It was okay, but a little bland overall. I thought that broccoli was a substitute for the chicken, but for some reason it was on the pasta also, which I did not want. It was also missing the fried onions and the Nashville sauce. Overall, it was just... okay. I would consider trying it again as a dine in to see if there was just a difference with it being take out. 3.) Panini The person who ordered this in our group said that only half of the sandwich had mustard and on the half it was on, it was REALLY thick. He didn't like the fries and said they were soggy and wished they were more crispy. Overall, he said it was a good sandwich but that he wished in house made potato chips were an option instead. We just ate breakflast and hands down the most delicious breakfast I have ever had. My whole family including my 3 little girls loved their food. They got the Frenchie which was a cinnamon roll and French toast combination. The atmosphere was so cute and the owner was so friendly and accommodating. Wow. There are no words. I am speechless. I was hungry this morning. Nothing to eat and it was already noon. Stumbled across this hole in the wall and ordered their world famous soup and sandwich. I prefer my turkey clubs with no bacon no cheese and they had no problemo doing that for me with ease. They brought my sandwich out first which I love and I dug right in. I ate every last morsel and licked the plate clean. Helping out the dishwasher hehe. Another incredible thing about this place is that the chef personally walked to my table and asked me how he soup was. I have not seen this type of hospitality in ages (I'm 15). Great new addition to Roscommon! I had the Farmers Plate and my wife had the Chicken and Waffles which I sampled. Both were outstanding and up a notch for breakfast.
