Blueberry Pancakes

OMG this place is rated way to low! Service was awesome and fast. Food was amazing. If you like pancakes theirs are tasty and huge! Sausage gravy is good too. All the food that came out of the kitchen looked good. Highly recommend. This is a must stop.

Raw omelet anyone?

We were recommended this breakfast spot by a friend. I had high hopes. Those were dashed when we were seated right by the kitchen doors at the entrance & could see into the kitchen. Looked like something out of a horror movie. There was a pan bubbling with water literally inches from a large, full trash can. Filthy kitchen doors and floors. We should have left. My husband and I were in awe. Nevertheless, he ordered an omelette, and I ordered biscuits and gravy. His omelette came and was RAW. Looked somewhat like the imitation eggs in a squeeze bottle. Shiny, oily, watery. The waitress apologized & offered to make another, but he had already lost his appetite. My biscuits & gravy were MASSIVE in size. Tasted fine. My son's cheese sticks were fine also. We would not return, based on the state of the kitchen, and the raw eggs.

Name and address of the restaurant

Stopped in to Shakers restaurant in Houghen Lake. Never been there before and as we drove by the restaurant, we noticed how busy the parking lot was. Glad we tried them out. My Beef stew was fantastic. Huge helping and by the time I finished the house salad with house dressing, and the two pieces of homemade bread that came with it, I was full. Needles to say I could only finish a small amount of the stew. I brought the rest of the stew home and should have enough for supper tomorrow. My husband got a two piece dark meat chicken basket with fries and coal slaw. Lots of food, great price, and great service. We will be back there again for sure.

French toast

Unbelievable!!!! Pancakes bigger than the plate and for a very reasonable price! Dont miss this place!

Been here 4 times since I moved here two years ago and ordered to-go 3 outta those 4. First time, it was dead of winter so I ordered the chicken and biscuit special bcuz it sounded like good, winter comfort food. And it was. Good enough, anyway, for the price. There could have been more than three chunks of chicken in it, but they made up for it by drowning it all in a sea of gravy. It came with a choice of slaw, salad, etc. and I chose the house salad, which was interestingly good both bcuz of the tasty house dressing and the fact that they include water chestnuts in the salad, which is overall unusual. However, they might want to consider draining said water chestnuts in the future as there was a total swamp of what seemed (presumably) to be water chestnut juice pooling at the bottom of the salad bowl. But for the price, I didn't complain. Fast forward to a recent sit down breakfast at Shaker's. First, let me say this place is *ALWAYS* busy on weekends, times 10 during peak seasons. And there's really no place to wait, so you're stuck either waiting outside or else stuck in very close company until you are seated. So prime time is not recommended for the claustrophobic among you. This time, we luckily got seated right before the Saturday morning rush. My order was a simple scrambled eggs, bacon and wheat toast. My dining companion ordered a breakfast burrito. Both plates delivered in decent time, although our blue jean clad, butt-bedazzled server was less than friendly. Whatever. She got the job done and maybe was just having a bad morning. Having worked many years as a server/bartender myself, I'm more empathetic than most. I am furthermore more critical and discerning than most because I have a firsthand understanding of what's going on behind the scenes. Anyway. Back to the eggs, etc. I ordered my eggs scrambled (ez pz, right?) but when they arrived, they were clearly just the product of their line cook cracking a couple eggs on the flat top and scrambling them about until they were done...beyond done, actually. By the time they made it to my plate, they were dust dry and rubbery. Just crappy tasting. I took them home to my dog. The bacon was... typical food service bacon. Shaker's does claim to make their own breads and that seems credible as the toast was probably the best thing on my plate. My dining companion ordered a breakfast burrito plate, only after taking several bites, he complained that it had a "funny texture" and "tasted weird". He is from the southwest, so this guy has had a breakfast burrito or two...or TEN THOUSAND!! So he knows weird when he tastes weird. He furthermore lamented that he was having trouble chewing his burrito and...lo and behold, we quickly determined that it had been served WRAPPED IN WAX PAPER, like the tissue paper thin kind!! By the time he realized, bits of this paper shit had gotten trapped in his teeth and it was just a miserable experience. Making matters worse, when we brought this to our lackadaisical server's attention, she **DIDN'T EVEN APOLOGIZE**!! Instead, she says, "Well, that's just how breakfast burritos are served..." (*WHAAAT???) UMMM...**NEWSFLASH** BUT NO, BREAKFAST BURRITOS ARE *NOT* typically served WRAPPED in tissue thin wax paper, ya dumb bedazzled ass beeyatch!! I was absolutely taken aback, both by her ignorance ***AND MORE SO!!!* by her failure to even lamely apologize!! WTF?? Had I been her, not only would I have apologized profusely but I likely would have comped the meal or at least offered a free dessert or whatever. Just saying. Plus, this place always looks and feels kinda dirty. The staff obviously doesn't recognize cleaning protocols and will start sweeping floors under and around folks who are actively dining (a definite"NO NO" at most restaurants!) and our table clearly has been "wiped down" with a dirty rag bcuz it was sticky still. Probably that's because of the gianormous pancakes they serve, which I haven't tried as big as a dinner plate and seemed quite popular, judging by the number being served at other tables. At the end of the day, Shaker's is a very, very average Houghton Lake area restaurant-just like any other very, very average log-cabiney/up north themed place you can find here. I can't recommend it to anyone I know and respects me whatsoever because that would make me delusional. Very, very oatmeal.

Want to give Shaker's Restaurant an excellent review. We had breakfast there today and had the best omelette ever, seriously it was a western omelette! Alissa was our waitress she was great and I must also say all the employees went over and above great service with big smiles. Service was fast and food delicious! Thank you

The Fox Den Restaurant - Sirloin Steak Quesadilla. It was about a pound of deliciousness.

The fat was as white as paper. The meat cold to the touch. I asked the waitress to have it warmed. When it returned it looked much better and was the right temperature and appearance. However, it was terrible. The meat tasted old and had a tinny taste to it. My wife absolutely enjoyed her chicken dish and we enjoyed out meal with friends. When I paid the bill I let the waitress know that the prime rib didn't improve and was terrible. She apologized and gave a small discount on the bill. Unfortunately, this is the second bad prime rib I have gotten at the Fox Den. I am not picky and just want consistency in a restaurant. For over $30 you have a consistent product or don't offer that item. Since you advertise it as a restaurant specialty you should really stand behind the quality a little better. Maybe offer to replace it with a fresh cut. Overall, I am sure we will go there again, just not as often. PS I commented on one of their ads on Facebook and they deleted by comment without a response. Mistakes are made, own it and improve on it.

Nobody had any hats on so I felt really excluded wearing a cape and neckerchief. I will go again because the prices were very expensive and I like that sometimes when I'm hungry for a drink at a great price!! I go here for the Ambiance and the lack of Ambiance.

The homey decor paired with the friendly service made it feel like you were visiting a friend who also happens to be a baker extraordinaire! Located conveniently across from the Tesla superchargers, it's the perfect pit stop for some recharge-yourself-while-you-recharge-the-car vibes. And don't leave without trying a slice of their famous pie. We were tipped off by the waitress that the buttermilk and berry pies are the crowd favorites, and I can see why! If you're a pie person, don't miss. Food-wise, it's classic Michigan fare. The chicken and rice soup of the day was exactly what you'd expect--simple, no-frills, but satisfying. I also tried the quiche of the day, which came with a fruit cup (not the freshest fruit ever, but no complaints here) and a homemade scone that was delicious! The pesto chicken sandwich hit the spot, too. Whether you're here for the pies, the quiche, or just to soak up the local charm, Mulberry Cafe has you covered. And with an attached gift shop, you might just find a cute souvenir to remember your visit.
