I ordered the four piece chicken dinner with a side of collar greens, and side of cornbread with a glass of water. I ordered to pick up however I got there a little early and the food wasn't ready so I decided to stay and eat. The service was good the food came out on time freshly cooked and hot. The wings were enormous and the collar greens they were OK they needed a little more flavor however overall the food was good eight out of 10 would I go back? Yes! read more

I really wanted to love this place. I got a recommendation from a co-worker about the food, and I walked away completely disappointed. The fried chicken was fine, maybe a tiny notch above Popeyes. We had the fries and potato salad, which were also just fine (nothing special). The items that I had big problems with: fried tilapia, mac and cheese, and peach cobbler. Tilapia: this smelled sooooo fishy and had a rubbery kind of texture. We couldn't finish the order and it just didn't taste fresh. Mac and cheese: this was the most watery mac and cheese I've ever had. The noodles were a mix of macaroni and it seemed like whatever other random noodles were around. The noodles were over cooked and the cheese water barely had any flavor. This was a huge bummer. Peach cobbler: I don't think they make these in their store, but they shouldn't continue to sell it. The peach cobbler was super watery. It was a gray mush, like the peaches weren't drained or something. At $5 per square, I felt cheated the most by this. Maybe it was a bad day in the kitchen, but the person I got the recommendation from was shocked when I reported back. It's a shame when I have to tell people that their referrals didn't pan out, but I don't want someone else to end up paying almost $90 for a meal that disappointed my group of people and that I had to apologize for. Fabulous place for hot fresh catfish & snapper. We called in for our order of Wing Dings with sides of collard greens and delicious yams that were seasoned perfection. Yes!! Scends is definitely the spot for good soul food and good service. We were looking forward to trying this new restaurant. Our server was nice but was not attentive. The food was not flavorful and tasted frozen. The condiments were nothing special, off the grocery isle, one with an expired date on it! Would have been nice if they did homemade fresh sauces. Scends last night was good as hell and it's been quite awhile since I've drinks and food here. When recently found out that Scends reopened I said I have to get there so after making a couple of errands and an boxing event i decided to go check things out, to my unfortunate surprise I heard that the bar was not a part of the new location so i had went to this bar a cross the street for a couple before going to eat and this bar was terrible so I really missed the Scends bar. My girlfriend and I dined at Scends lastnight, most of the food was great but...I could taste the sugar in the greens, the cornbread was hard and too coarse of a cornmeal was used, ugh it was awful and I love me some cornbread. I asked for catfish and they served me the thinnest hardest pieces of fish, there was NO WAY it was catfish which is my favorite fish. I guess they thought I wouldn't know the difference, it was either snapper or tilapia, it was awful. Dont know if I'll go back but I should of said something. This was our first time trying this restaurant. We got wings and catfish which were really goood. The potato salad and mac and cheese were really good too. We searched online for a restaurant after having purchased tickets at the Coliseum. Our criteria was, in order, seafood, positive reviews, closeness, low key, and cost. Scend's appeared to be ideal. Once entering, we immediately noted it's cleanliness. A very polite young lady attended to us, patiently answered our questions, and placed our orders. My wife and I selected the fish platters. Our meals arrived quickly and we were overwhelmed, in a good way, with the immense servings. I was able to finish my large bowls of cole slaw and red beans and rice but could only get through perhaps half of the numerous pieces of catfish I was given and I was hungry! I liked the preparation of the fresh fish...fried but not greasy at all. I noticed the colorful vegetable dishes others had and will try them the next time. We assume the owners later came by and chatted with us. They are pleasant people and explained a short history of the restaurant. We highly recommend this establishment because of the friendly and professional service and excellent food. read more

This restaurant has the worst customer service in the area. They don't tell you about the specials..you have to read them on the sandwich board. There isn't a sign that reads" Seat Yourself." You don't find that out until you get to the counter. When your bill comes....the amount is inflated because they're too lazy or untrained to write the tax amount on the bill. I had to wait 3-4 minutes for the cashier to finally ring me up while I'm standing right in front of her. I had to say something because they were content to leave me standing there. The food was just ok. The wings & prawns were fried hard. The Red Beans n rice didn't have any seasoning whatsoever in them. I will not be patronizing this place again. The cornbread was the best thing with the meal and I don't even eat bread my guy let me know it was ok!!! Oooh Lord, this place... In the bay area we fried chicken connoisseurs are EXTREMELY picky with what we consider good and omg Scends is my favorite!!! I tried it for the first time last week and I'm SO happy I did. It's the kind of fried chicken where you eat everything including the gristle; it's that dang good. The yams are delicious and sweet and come as a side along with the red beans & rice which are also legit. I highly recommend this place, if you go you will NOT be disappointed. My ONLY complaint was the cornbread SIMPLY because I think they microwaved it, which KILLED the flavor. Scends PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE throw your microwave out the window. Gordan Ramsey will tell you it ruins everything!! I'd rather wait the extra 15-20 minutes for something warmed up in the oven than eat something from the microwave. I had the chicken wings, my mom had catfish and my husband had everything including the pork chops....all very good and seasoned well and not overly seasoned. SO!! I had to do a update! I have been here at least once a week since my first post! And several of my friends went because of my review! (How did they know it was me??? lol) I don't know if that was an off night with the chicken but I noticed that all the chicken was fresh out the grease today!! Yasssss! Come on now Scends! That was my only issue the first time, so I had just been getting the fish! But I was told today its usually that way. So I am with that! Today I took a family member and she is the "cook" of the family! She absolutely LOVED it! Not only the food but the staff! She kept saying how professional and nice/attentive they were. She liked them so much she didnt want to ask for anything because they were "busy".. Yea! Thats NOT her! She is very picky!! She was talking them to death (and they listened) -__- .. As my girls and I sat down waiting to order, a lady came up to my youngest and asked her to choose a toy. She went from her grumpiness to a huge smile. The service was so attentive and warm!
