The ambiance is great. We sat on the left side of the patio and our group of four felt like we were in our own private dining room. However, the only good food we had was the octopus. The Milanese was gigantic- the dish was put in a thick sauce which totally ruined it. Service was less than par- not cleaning or dishes and not helping us. Restaurant has great food and impeccable menu choices. The new chef is superb. One of the best restaurants I have been to! Service was wonderful despite the fact the restaurant was packed on a Saturday night. I can't say enough to represent the quality & quantity of the food. The food was excellent. Everybody in our party (6) enjoyed their meal, however, we all agreed that the service was terrible. The wait staff stood around chatting with each other and seemed like they could not be bothered with us. Harvest on Greenwich avenue is owned by the same parent company. I rarely write reviews, however felt very compelled to do so after my dining experience at Scena. My friend and I met up for drinks in Darien last night. She is new to the area and upon my suggestion we decided to have dinner here. I couldn't be more disappointed and embarrassed about my suggestion. From the wait staff to the food, everything was sub-par. The wait staff treated us as though it was a burden to serve us, practically throwing plates down. The appetizer salad we shared was.....eh, ok. But the pasta was swimming in sauce. It truly seemed as though it was made in a rush, to get it out of the way. Finally we received someone else's bill. Overall, it was a terrible dining experience for the high priced, low quality food. read more

Service was horrible! I will never go to this place again...First, they had our reservation down wrong. They were able to get us seated although there was some confusion. If you are looking for a spa treatment with steam, please visit this restaurant, as it was about 200 degrees in the restaurant itself. I believe it may have been cooler outside. Our waiter rarely visited our table, nor was he able to understand our order when placed. Service was slow...we got a bottle a wine about 20 minutes after we placed the order... The appetizers we ordered were mediocre, the highlight of my evening was the main dish. I ordered the roasted chicken without sausage, as I only eat poultry...no MEAT! My dish arrives with clumps of sausage. So much sausage, that you could barely tell it was a chicken dish. I kindly let the waiter know that my order is wrong. His response, "I will have the chef remove the sausage from your plate and you can eat it." I told him that I would not eat the chicken due to the meat that was placed all over it. The waiter recommended that I order a pasta dish in lieu of the chicken, as a new order would take over 20 minutes to prepare. Nothing else appealed to me on the menu, so I indicated that I would opt out of a meal. Needless to say, the waiter came back with a roasted chicken that was not on the menu. This roasted chicken looked disgusting. It was drenched with an orange sauce and looked like a car ran over it. Needless to say, to be a good sport, I took a few stabs at it and was overwhelmed by a strong pumpkin taste. Who knew pumpkin was in season? Well, at least our waiter came with our check in a timely fashion (chicken dish not taken off the menu). He topped off our night with some complimentary after dinner drinks. We read the reviews and were anticipating a nice dinner,however, our expectations were too high. We ordered a goat cheese salad, pork chops and the roasted chicken. We were surprised because the menu did not mention the goat cheese was fried. An enormous mound of salad hid the three fried goat cheese rolls. The portion of salad was absurd and the small amount of dressing was even more absurd. The chicken was coated with a dark red gravy which caused the heavy skinned chicken to look sloppy and ultimately became a mess. The chicken was not consistent inside. Some parts were soft and others parts appeared grilled. The mash cold potatoes tasted like it had been either processed or had been refrigerated. This was a strange texture under hot gravy and chicken. The pork chop was enormous, but just okay, the french fries was good. The broccoli rabe was beyond understanding. I have never eaten anything that was so hard to chew that I just gave up. The only saving grace was the wine special, Darien people watching and the upscale cafeteria decor that did not bother me.. The staff were charming, cheerful and helpful. I gave the 3 stars rating because there are a lot of other restaurant in the area in this price range that offer better food and great ambiance. The reason for the 2 star rating was the food is what you expect from an Applebee with inflated prices. read more

I am usually a frequent diner at this restaurant, however my last meal there was especially horrible and deserved be documented. The menu was just uninspired and food mediocre, and the service was absolutely terrible. I was surprised by this, so I spoke with the manager, mentioning that it was my 30th anniversary with my husband and it was a special night and this dinner was a let down. He could not care less, gave a shrug and a "sorry", walked away. After we paid, I approached him again actually telling him that he was failing as a manager. This place used to be great and after that meal I will never be back....he offered us a complimentary cup of coffee. Save yourself the trouble, there are tons of great restaurants near by! read more

This place had mixed reviews but we saw a movie at the theater next store so we decided to give this place a try. The food was much better than expected, my lamb cavetelli special was excellent. Only downside was an awkward table literally in front of the front door (behind hostess stand). Will be back but will request a different table. read more

Went last night for the first time in a while. Pretty empty at 6:45PM, so took a seat in the main dining area near the window. No one came to the table for about 10 min. and we finally got water and ordered a drink. We asked for bread, never came. Asked again, never came..... finally someone brings the drink and a new waiter we asked to bring the bread. Finally the bread came but no plate for the oil. The waiter swipes one off the table next to us. We sat with our menu closed for 17 minutes before again calling someone over to take our order..... seriously?? The food was really good, so that was the redeeming factor. Appetizers were the grilled calamari, brussel sprout salad, shrimp with hummus (the best one). We were not done with these and were talking and a new waiter came to try to remove the plates which was odd. Mains were the Tuna with lentils and the veal Milanese. Portions were really nice. A glass of dessert wine, an espresso and we were done.... I even took some of the dinner home for lunch. So, overall, food was again great, place was jammed by 7:30, service was pretty awful and for a restaurant group with a great reputation, it was a bit underwhelming of an experience unfortunately. read more

Have always liked this restaurant but last night something was terribly wrong. Almost empty and the service could not have been much worse, despite several waiters milling around. Got almost every order wrong with each course, no one seemed to be in charge, or could communicate with us about what was going on. Couldn't even tell who to complain to! It was a farcical evening. DELICIOUS ... cute and cozy place. Welcome addition to the area and a definite change of pace from the old school italian places. Our group of 6 dined here on a Friday last month. Place was packed, we had a great spot in the corner with a view of the dining room and the crazy kitchen. Had a chance to try a few things across the table -- cavatelli and gnocchi are ridiculous. the Seafood panroast, also quite salubrious!! I would say the only negative was how crowded the place got by the end of the night... overall a great time and will be back! read more

The food is good, but everything else is bad. To start, my son ordered a regular coke. He got diet, complained, and was told the restaurant didn't have regular coke. The waiter forgot to bring the risotto we ordered. Not only was the "special" pinot noir red wine by the glass overpriced and bad quality, but the bill was $2 higher than the menu! The tables are too close together, as a result of which one of us kept getting bumped while eating. But... the meal was good... read more

Great place with great food. Love the pre fix menu for lunch and there dinner menu always offers something new. There's something for everyone here. I love the pizza's. Anyone who visits here should either try the proscuitto or sausage pizza. Also there seafood pan roast is honestly one of the best dishes i've ever had. I was very disappointed with Scena. If you're one to be totally taken in by presentation and don't really care about the quality of the food; this is the place for you. I ordered the roasted mushrooms and seafood pan roast, and my date had the caesar salad and lamb chops. The mushrooms were good... But I expected more mushrooms (I think there was three or four pieces total) since that was the dishes name-- instead it's mostly just a poached egg on top of some soggy, horrible, anything-but-crispy polenta surrounded by spinach. Now on to the Caesar salad. Can't really screw that up right? Wrong, they forgot to put any dressing on. The seafood pan roast is a dish that I order pretty much everywhere I go that has something like this. This has to have been one of the worst. The mussels were way overdone (what's so hard about taking them out after they pop?), flavorless, and pretty much fell apart like rotten-flesh when I tried to remove them from the shell-- same goes for the clams. I have a pretty diverse taste, but the seasoning+sauce they used on the rice was just not for me-- some sort of creamy, vanilla-ey herb sauce that nobody at the table enjoyed. It would have been much better off with a red-sauce, or hell, even just plain; but that's my opinion. The shrimp and scallops were pretty much the only edible part of the dish when I had it. It may have been a training night or something, because I really don't understand what makes this place so special other than the nice atmosphere and presentation. What I tasted was far from special-- I'd much rather eat in a dive with great food than a glitzy spot with horrible food. I'd stick to the more basic dishes that don't require much cooking or creativity. But even then the gnocchi bolognese my friend ordered looked like the bolognese sauce needed to be strained, as it was just glistening with oil and grease. Still, I think if I were to go back I'd have to try a pasta dish, because Chef Eben Leonard's "twists" on the italian fare that I had, were just plain awful. Hopefully he hasn't gotten too creative with the pastas as well. **The steak tartare and mozzarella caprese were good when I went back for a snack-- probably because you don't have to actually cook them**. Overall, if you want a fine-dining experience I would not come here. It's a total pretender. read more

This restaurant got a great review from the Times, which is the reason we decided to try it out on our trip. But when we got there we were in for an unpleasant evening. First of all, the service was slow. Now, it was busy that night so we understood that- but it was also very snotty. Our food, when we finally got it was spotty - some good, some not - definitely not worth the prices being charged. We are from LA and I always hear that you get the best Italian on the east coast, and that might be true, but not at this restaurant. My salad was wonderful, and my husband's antipasto plate was very good, but then my husband ordered a pizza, which was dry, and my pasta, although good was very heavy. However the really unpleasant part was when we witnessed an ugly scene in the restaurant, where a customer was unhappy with her food, sent it back and then, was evidently charged for it. The woman was upset, and my husband and I were shocked at how visibly rude the manager/owner was to her. I've never witnessed any customer being treated like that at any restaurant, much less an upscale restaurant like this one. I wonder if she had been with a man, instead of with another woman, if she might not have been treated better. TSo much for atmosphere. Thank god the wine selection is excellent, you need a couple of glasses to help choke down the attitude with your meal. read more

Because of past numerous excellent dining experiences, my family chose to have our Mothers Day Brunch at Scena. Unfortunately, this experience was a disaster! There were prolonged wait times, although seemed to be sufficient staff: it must be presumed that they were poorly deployed for the large crowd present. The normal brunch menu was discarded in favor of a "Mothers Day Brunch Menu", which limited the normal brunch options. One appetizer order which included tomatoes had part of the stick-on label still attached to a slice of the tomato. Because of a major food allergy, one entree was ordered NOT to include pesto: it was twice delivered with remnants of pesto still attached, and finally rejected! Another burger was not cooked to the level requested. One pizza was well prepared, but the other one wasn't up to the normal standards. The omelets and salads were very good! Basically, this visit was a disappointment! read more
