I had a tub reglazed by SB refinishing on July 16, 2024. The work took 3 days. The first day it was stripping the tub and getting the bathroom set up. The second day it was reglazing the tub. The third was going over any imperfections and also going over after care instructions for the tub. We let the tub continue to dry for over a week and we noticed that there were a lot of bumps on the side of the tub. This indicates that the paint used was old and lumpy. That was the only reason I am giving 3 stars. read more

The first red flag should have been when I had to contact Kevin , at 2:15 to confirm his ETA for the 2:00 appointment. He said he had gotten "hung up" and said he would be here in 30 min. I said that was not acceptable. He then said he could be here in 15 min. I said no. We rescheduled for 10:30 the next AM. He arrived on time for the estimate the next AM. Gave me his "spiel" about product and warranty and work. He stated they would clean, prep, glaze and the next day come out to check for any imperfections. He quoted a price of $599.00. I was happy with that. I called him back later that day to start the job. He arrived, the day of the job, at the scheduled 10AM. I was not home because of a pet emergency. My husband was there to supervise. I arrived home just after noon. Kevin was not there. My husband told me Kevin had taken several smoke brakes and had been talking on the phone during the 2 hrs he'd been there "working". He said Kevin then needed to run to his office, in the same city we live in, to get a product he'd forgotten. 1:30 came along and Kevin had still not come back. I called him to check on his whereabouts. He stated he was on his way and that he'd had a issue with locating an engine (?) He arrived several min later. When he arrived, close to 2:00, I ask how much longer the job would take. He said several more hours. I felt the job wasn't being done in a timely manor. I started a dialog with him in regards to that. He seemed to get belligerent and unprofessional. I asked him to pack up and leave. I asked how much I should pay him. He answered whatever I thought fair. He still tried to make excuses for the unprofessional situation. I told him I was not interested in his issues only that the job got done in a timely and professional manor. I asked how much he charged per hr. He said $65.00. I wrote him a check for 2 hrs (being generous because he did not work a full 2 hrs.) I handed him the check as he was heading for the door. He wrote a receipt that said ..."For prep and cleaning. AND I'M OUT OF HERE!". He also made sure I could read his writing to see the message! I told him I was going to report him to the Better Business Bureau and make reviews on Yelp and Google. He then said ..."So you are not happy? Do you want your check back?" I said, yes! Took the check, returned the receipt, and asked him to leave. read more

We had both our kitchen and bar sink refinished. Both sinks were in fair condition for being 16 years old. SB Refinishing did a great job bringing the sinks to practically new condition. Price was very fair and work was done promptly. read more

Took a little longer than quoted but other than that Beautiful. We had the fire place and shower done first. Extremely happy with the results. So were friends. When we went to have the countertops done, we were looking for granite but had a horrible time with several companies. So we decided to go with Southbay. Kevin came back out showed us the different colors, kept us informed of the eta of receiving the color. Everyone including our contractor Loved the countertops. They look wonderful and we couldn't ask for more. Exceeded our expectations by far. New kitchen look fit half the price. read more

They have been in our home twice - once to refinish an old tub and once to repair the job they did the first time. They will never be in our home again even though they did a HORRIBLE job the second time around with drip marks, splatters on our vanity, and bubble marks in the finish and they SHOULD come back to fix the work - again! First, the phone calls are painful. Communication is difficult at best and I can count on one hand the number of times I was chuckled at for something I shared about the work done on our tub, about our scheduling needs, etc. (Who cares if we want to schedule the SMELLY work for a time when the little ones will be out of the house? Why is that funny?) Then there are the arguments. First, I was told that the product does not smell because they use fans. Well, I can tell you that it is the most toxic smell you can inhale, which, quite frankly, may explain why the worker who does the finishing behaves in the manner I am about to describe. The worker argued with me about the effects of mold (I said it's bad, he said it's not). Then the man started to tell me off in my own home about how I had caused the damage to the original finish after they had come out the first time, my husband went in to throw him out. But when he saw the half-completed tub, he decided to take a different approach, first setting the boundaries with the man, then putting on kid gloves to get this boy-man to own up to his shoddy work the first time and to calm down and act like a professional. Why should we have to adjust our way of conversing (which has never been a problem for anyone in the past) in order to have a worker behave properly in OUR home? They are horrible. Our experience with Southbay Refinishing is the total opposite of the first reviewer's review. This is a second generation family run operation who are efficient, reasonable and courteous. They have been refinishing the tubs, tile enclosures, sinks and countertops in the bathrooms and kitchens for us for over 8 years in our multi-residential buildings. They do a great job refinishing the bathtubs and sinks as well as providing a choice of tile finishes that keeps the old world tile/grout appearance but modernizes the look. They provide a warranty on the labor and will gladly correct any defects provided the finish has been cared for as instructed. They educate their customers regarding the care of porcelain and refinished surfaces so they don't lose their luster. They also remove and clean built up scum off the shower doors and tile enclosures. It is a complicated process, the chemicals do have a strong odor that is dissipated by fans so it's not advisable to be in the unit while they are working, however, it is far less expensive and faster than remodeling the bathrooms or kitchen counters. They even helped us with a listing in Oxnard. The bathrooms looked like new saving the owner beaucoup bucks and accelerated the sale. read more
