It's nothing fancy to see from the street or when you walk inside, but they are the nicest people in here and they prepare food that tastes homemade. I ordered the beef stew to go and sat down at one of the dozen or so tables. The kitchen is on the right side and to the rear behind the counter. A steady stream of people are coming through while I wait on this Friday evening around 7:30 or 8:00. A couple is in here eating dinner and it's a calm evening. The hospitable woman working here who took my order told me the dish is served with a sweet plantain, but I didn't realize it was a whole plantain sliced in half lengthwise until I got home. You get the sweet plantain over rice with the savory beef stew in a separate container to pour over the rice and plantain. I wish I had taken a picture of it all before devouring it. The beef stew is tender and savory. I only wish they were more generous with the beef. There are potatoes and carrots in there and probably onions that have been cooked down and hidden in the thick gravy. I can see eating this year round, particularly on a cold snowy day in February, hard to imagine this summer with temperatures regularly hitting the nineties. The restaurant is kept clean and orderly and I imagine the rest of the menu is very satisfying. 3.7 stars!

I finally decided on the Bandeja Paisa and Chimichurri Steak Sandwich. The Chimichurri Steak Sandwich is not my favorite but not bad. I wished it had some sauce that is compatible with it, the steak had a strong lime flavor. The bread was good and the fries are delicious. The Bandeja Paisa has all the flavors and everything you want from a Colombian dish. It has sausage, steak, fried pork belly, egg, arepa, sweet plantain, avocado, and rice and beans. It was a combination of flavors. The dish was very flavorful and a bit salty, but the sweet plantain helped cut. The service was so friendly and sweet. The restaurant has a good amount of tables and it was actually pretty crowded for a Friday afternoon.

(I also love the bathroom theme) We had coffee, margaritas, the Huevos Pericos (columbian eggs) Arepita, fries, and the slab bacon. The drinks were spot on, and coffe fresh. We all really enjoyed the Heuvos Pericos Arepitas! A large pillowly arepa topped with a tower of soft scrambled eggs made with tomato and scallion. The ingredients were fresh and it tasted homecooked. The slab bacon had good flavor, but was a bit too thick and chewy for our preferences. The fries were thin, salty, and crispy, what a fry should be. Additionally, our server was friendly and prompt.

Both were so flavorful, especially the chicken, and the plantains and cheese on the veg were the perfect combo. The empanadas were so fluffy and the cazón I got worked really well inside, the spices they added to the fish married it well with the dough. And the sauces!! Total must, particularly the creamy green sauce, but also the others ruled. And the prices were reasonable, I was very full after a $6 empanada and $13.50 arepa, for a lighter meal could probably just have the latter. Awesome spot in Bushwick for sit-down arepas.
