They had other options, so I ordered the brisket, candied yams, + mac and cheese, and for dessert, caramel biscoff banana pudding. The total came out to $31. The lady that took my order said it would take about 20 minutes. 40 minutes later she informed me that they were just finishing up with my order, but they ran out of caramel for the dessert. When I finally got the food 5 minutes later, I took it to my car and gave it a try. I was disappointed off the bat. Apart from the food being lukewarm/on the colder end, I felt like the price I paid was not worth what I got. The Mac and cheese was not like anything I've tried before. It tasted like it had gorgonzola cheese which was not what i had expected/enjoyed. I thought the yams were tasty but lacking a punch. The portions are definitely fair for the price. They also pack everything well for the ride home. The gumbo is our favorite, it's flavorful and packed with protein like their sausage, chicken, and shrimp and has just a hint of spice. We tried their riblets for the first time and it was a generous portion and we really enjoyed the bbq sauce they used. The mac and cheese is good, but I like mine creamier. It does have a little spice which was nice. The dressing was packed with flavor and we were excited they offered this side because you don't see it everywhere. Their hot water cornbread is definitely something they're known for and is really good on its own or dipped into the gumbo. The Palmer here tastes like Brisk raspberry tea mixed with lemonade, and we really enjoy this twist on it. Overall this spot is a local gem and we love visiting.

I was recommended Tori's Place for their fried chicken so I gave it a shot. I found the lightly crispy skin to be excellent. You can see the herbs and spices that they use in the breading and the taste is outstanding. It's one of the best chicken skins I've had. The combo meal comes with three pieces - a wing, thigh, and drum. You also get your choice of side as well as their hot water butter cornbread. Though I loved the exterior taste of the chicken, I found the inner part to be less quality than I would have liked. Certainly not bad, but I could tell that the actual chicken quality wasn't as high. As fried chicken is, the grease factor is there so expect to use a lot of napkins! The side I chose was mac and cheese, and Tori's doesn't skimp! I found their portion to be very nice. The mac and cheese was also very creamy and soft. It was very comforting to eat. The cornbread was interesting and very large. It wasn't my favorite thing, but it was an interesting bite for sure. Tori's is especially famous for their gumbo, so the next time I go I'm going to give it a try!
