We were in town for the night traveling through after a long road trip and wanted a nice dinner. Leave it to Yelp to assist us with some great prior reviews of the Saxony Steakhouse. So we have it a shot. When we pulled into the parking lot my wife and I both thought we came to the wrong place. We say the older hotel and a Mexican restaurant but didn't immediately see the steakhouse. Once we walked inside we found a quaint older style steakhouse. It reminded me of when I was a kid and I liked the ambience. It's romantically lit and not a lot of tables. Our waitress was awesome and even showed us a list of wines by the bottle that they had marked down. We settled in with a nice bottle of Pinot Noir. I ordered the Bourbon Ribeye and my wife ordered the regular Ribeye. Our dinner salads came out and I was impressed. Not overdone but tasty and the ranch dressing didn't taste like it came out of a bottle. The grille is inside the dining room and the smells were really getting us excited. The steaks (and loaded potatoes) came out fairly quickly. WOW!!! Mine came with a side of bourbon to dip it in. The steak was was cooked very well and had a lot of taste. Dipping it in bourbon really made it better. I almost licked my plate clean. We decided to split the chocolate mouse cake. Really good and especially with the vanilla ice cream on top. Incredible steaks; perfectly cooked. The man behind the circular grill area is a master. My filet and hubby's NY strip were perfectly seasoned and cooked. If you want to wait 30 minutes to be seated after your reservation, another 30 minutes to get your drink order in, and 1.5 hours to get your order. Then this place might be for you, otherwise steer away from this choice. To be clear, our waitress was good and it broke my heart to see her miss out on the tips associated with the four tables of people that walked out while we waited. The problem is the complete disorganization and lack of management. Unfortunately the owners don't act like owners. Ironically, they sat next to us observing and complaining instead of taking charge of what was clearly a shit show. This would have made a great Gordon Ramsey Kitchen Nightmares episode if not for having to be there living it. Sad thing is I was in Hobbs, NM two years ago and ate there with my son. we tried it.....my steak was thin and smallish and overcooked. My baked potato was cold except right in the middle. The salads were sparse but good. I had a glass of wine which was quite good. We will not be going there again. we prefer another steak house in Roswell. We travel there 3-4 times a year and count on a good meal so we have something to look forward to. read more

This is Hobbs hidden Gem. You don't see a sign but it doesn't need one. It's a local secret and they are happy to keep it that way. It's the best Steak in Hobbs hands down. Make sure you get the sautéed mushrooms. The best I've ever had. I got the 20 oz Bone in Ribeye and my wife got the Prime Rib. Both cooked to perfection. Wanted something other than Mexican during my stay in Hobbs. I kept seeing Saxony while looking for restaurants so I decided to give it a try. I did not make any reservations because it was just me, but when I got there on a Friday night, there were no tables available because the night was full of reserved tables. Go figure. Thankfully they have an overflow room, which is in the connected bar. You can order from the same menu and the same chef cooks it, so I took a seat at the bar room. I found it quite funny how drastically different the dining area and bar is, you walk from classy to full-on bar scene, where the music choice goes from smooth country to upbeat hiphop? I was craving steak so I ordered the bourbon ribeye that had the chef's choice sticker next to it. My waitress was very nice and made me feel taken care of. Service is quick and friendly. I got a house salad with vinaigrette. The veggies were fresh and good. The steak itself was pretty good, but a little too seasoned for me. When I took the first bite the salt and pepper was a bit overwhelming. I ate the entire 12oz though! The bourbon dip was unique and good. I got it medium rare, but it could've been more tender. For the price ($22 for my meal), quality and service, I'd come again to try other things on the menu! read more

What an awesome elegant and funky place. Made it a triple play. I stayed at The Hobbs Family Inn (Saxony off the lobby) for business. Reserved table for 10 to reward the employees of our Hobbs location. While waiting I slipped into their country bar off of the fancy steakhouse. The only name I heard for it was The Wrinkle Room. There is not much out here in Hobbs... or so I have seen in the 3 days I was here. But there were good recommendations on this place. It's inside the Hobbs Family Inn. We went on Saturday night. It's a small place so make sure you make reservations. There was not complimentary bread of that sort, but there were a basket of crackers on the table. They were ok, for individually wrapped crackers (more for soup and quick snacking). Our server was good. She brought out the wrong kind of beer and quickly corrected it with the Oatmeal stout. She even recommended the Chocolate stout. For starters we got the fried mushrooms. These were not the best. I don't think these were freshly made, and were frozen. The batter was not flavorful, and it was gooey at the mushroom. I ended up eating the mushroom only and leaving the batter behind. The sauces didn't help them. I got the New York Steak Strip, with asparagus. The steak was cooked perfectly, and tasted good. There was not a lot of asparagus and it was not great. I love asparagus... and I tasted it, and didn't finish it. He got the Bourbon Ribeye with grilled squash. The spice rub on the steak was delicious, however we did stay away from the bourbon sauce, unless you want a straight shot with your meal! We didn't have any dessert. Old hotel. Old dark dining room. Very intimate. 12 tables. Is that hammered copper on the ceiling? Basket of pre-packaged melba toast and bread sticks on the table. Reminds me of the places my grandparents liked to eat at when I was little (in the '70s). All that's missing is the 3-pot relish tray on a spindle. White cloth tablecloths and white cloth napkins. Excellent salad with green and red bell pepper strips, grape tomatoes, black olives and assorted baby greens. The balsamic vinaigrette was a little sweet. Hubby had the ceasar salad. My prime rib was awesome and hubby's ribeye was incredible. The adjoining bar has live talent that sings country and Jimmy Buffet. The 3-pot relish tray did make an appearance holding chives, cheddar, and bacon bits for my baked potato! I knew it was there somewhere! We opted to skip dessert, but would gladly eat here any time! Wow! Unassuming from the front, charming and unexpected once you enter the door. The chef cooks in full view and is a delight to watch- spinning plates and dancing to the funky Playlist. The steaks are absolutely amazing, both in the quality of the cut, and the skill with which Nick prepared them. The atmosphere of this small dining room was very cozy and comfortable. Fortunately or unfortunately, the fryer was down tonight. With the quality of the shrimp cocktail, we didn't miss it at all. Speaking of cocktails, they have some awesome house specialities for people avoiding carbs. We also loved the huge chunks of blue cheese in the dressing! Not your typical franchise steakhouse. Can't believe I've never reviewed this place before. Used to come here for date night and we always were impressed with the food. Wednesday's are a hit for half off bottles of wine and they have a decent selection to be in Hobbs NM! House salad is always fresh and the steaks are cooked to perfection. Don't be fooled by the entrance. The restaurant is inside the hotel and it is connected to the bar there as well. One of my least favorite stops in America is Hobbs, NM (for reasons that should be blatantly obvious). However, this restaurant just moved Hobbs up on my list. I now have something to look forward to in this town. To start; our salads (as mundane as that may seem) were fresh and crisp. Which is usually the sign of a place that cares. They even put a little extra effort into "plating" them a bit. Next we had the sautéed button mushrooms and we could not get enough of them. The sauce was basic but fitting for the appetizer. The mushrooms were cooked to perfection as well. For the entree I had the 16 oz T-bone with mixed vegetables. My counterpart had the 10 oz ribeye with a baked potato. Everything was perfect down to the last detail except (according to my buddy) the little lamp thing on the table wasn't lit and it made our bromance incomplete. He's pretty gay but I digress. The service is rivaled by no other place in New Mexico and our waitress was awesome adding to the enjoyment of the meal. Go try it out. It's worth the money and the time. read more

As a former resident of Hobbs, America, I had to write a review of my favorite restaurant, the Saxony. My husband, two great friends, and I were most recently here in late May '12. This place has awesome ambiance, serves cocktails, has awesome steaks (cooked to order) & shrimp, and great service. It can get packed at times, but this hole-in-the-wall is one of a kind in Hobbs! The chef cooks your hearty meal in an open view covey in the back. The place has low lighting and candles on each linen covered table. Real napkins. I suggest parties of no more than 4 as the tables as well as the entire seating area is relatively small. If you have a special occasion with your sweetheart and have time to plan ahead, call to make reservations. The salads are a real treat here--much to my surprise. They are always fresh & I love the not-too-runny, not-too-creamy ranch dressing (like homemade). This is the only place in town we dare order a steak. Great steaks--I had the bourbon rib eye---cooked exactly as ordered and perfectly seasoned. Chefs work in an open grilling area, making the atmosphere even more intimate in this small dark room. Lots of side dish choices, and they are included, along with salad and a roll, making the prices quite reasonable. Reservations are a must because this place has only 12 tables in the main dining room. You can also eat in the bar, but the atmosphere is not the same. Location in the Hobbs Family Inn (a former Ramada) makes this place irresistibly funky in a good way. read more

Very good steaks, good wine list, good / friendly service -- rest of the meal (salads, veggies, dessert etc.) was ok . It's clearly the steaks and wine list that bring customers in. Example - small filet for ~$20, was very good. Small place in a nondescript local motel. Next door / through an open door is a bar, so you can have a drink before or after your meal if you like. Call ahead esp on the weekends as the place is small. We called same day only a few hours ahead and got a 2-person table. People who don't travel in this part of the Southwest will find this place fascinating as an example of local color -- folks who travel here a lot will just be glad to find a place with good steaks & wine. read more

We got a reservation on a Wednesday, and by 7pm the place was packing up. The door to the bar was open which made for a noisy, breezy disturbance in my world. As others have said the place is DARK. I used the flashlight app on my phone to read the menu. The steaks and sides were great! There were plenty of options to choose from. The salads were large and tasty. If you are in the area, you owe it to yourself to give this place a try. If you lame out and go to Applebee's, you only have yourself to blame for not supporting local business and missing out on a one of a kind experience. read more

You have to sit back in amazement when you are able to enjoy a meal like the one I did tonight. If you can get past the fact the restaurant is nestled in an outdated motel on the outskirts of Hobbs, NM and prepare yourself for a unique dinning experience, you will be pleasantly surprised. The service is top notch and the chef (yes I said chef and not cook) are very nice. The chef's cooking area is in the dinning room so you are able to see him prepare your food while you wait. I'd recommend the spicy potato soup. I didn't see it on the menu but I saw another poster recommend it on another website and just had to try it. It was worth the request. Totally amazing. One of my best meals yet AND In Hobbs. Makes my job worth the trip. Great fresh food, rolls, salad , environment and salad he steak oh the steak. This place is hard to find. It's in an old hotel . We got lucky and stopped to asked for directions after GPS redirected us 5 times. The motel/hotel we asked said it was in their building. Guess you have to be a local to know. The price was great and the wine selection diverse. I recommend a reservation. Once again we got lucky with the only table left. You can go to the bar and eat the same items , but it's not as I nice. We were sat in front of the grill where we watched the food prepared. Make an effort to eat here if you are in Hobbs. read more

We were super happy to find this steakhouse. We saw reviews on Yelp and decided to give it a try. This was our kind of place. Kind of a quiet hole in the wall. The service was excellent. The hostess was accommodating and prompt. The server was very nice and helpful to explain the menu. We ordered a couple mixed drinks. The bartender make an outstanding old fashion. Appetizers we had were fried mushrooms and shrimp cocktail They were amazing. The cocktail sauce was perfectly spicy. Our steaks were ribeyes and filet. They were seasoned well and cooked perfectly. The pasta and chicken dish we ordered wasn't dry like most places. Chicken was moist and pasta cooked well. I appreciate the staff and will definitely be back when visiting Hobbs. read more
