Review #2,000!…read more OVERALL Taqueria Villa Nueva is a Mexican restaurant in Hobbs, NM that serves the best torta I've tried in the dusty small town. This is a great place for a family meal. RATING BREAKDOWN Food: 4.5 | Service: 5 | Ambiance: 4 | Price: 4 PARKING I parked near the front door but only because the place wasn't all that busy. I wish they would paint some parking lines or make it more clear where their drive-thru window begins and ends. Otherwise, it's not that far to walk with nearby street parking. LOCATION/AMBIANCE The dining room has a couple of beautiful murals inside. The buffet area was set up near the register and the kitchen. There were several different sizes of tables. They played a Spanish radio station in the background with good melodies, but way too many commercials at just before noon. THE GRUB As soon as I saw the opportunity for a torta de barbacoa ($9.99), I requested it. This Mexican sandwich was absolutely delicious. I wanted everything on it - meat, avocado, lettuce, tomato, & potatoes. This was an awesome portion for lunch. On the side was a batch of lukewarm shoestring fries which were not seasoned at all. I didn't eat many of them, so next time I will see if they will swap them fries for some arroz Mexicano! Lol. The nice lady asked me which salsa I wanted - "red or green?" I laughed and said both. She obliged. The red is definitely spicier than their green, but still I could not stop eating it. LITTLE YELPER'S CLUB No kid's menu available that I saw. There were high chairs/slings, though. SERVICE Welcoming & friendly! My takeout order was out in about 5 minutes. MY FAVORITE PART... The barbacoa! NOT SO FAVORITE PART... The fries! TIP Lunch buffet looked really good.

This review is for El Mirador's lunch buffet from my 12/2/2022 visit…read more It's not my favorite Mexican restaurant in town, but it certainly has it's pluses... For starters, their buffet is replenished often during peak hours. Not sure what Michael M. was referring to back on 9/17/2022 because I saw trays being replaced, checked on, and occassionally stirred by staff members. Everything was hot... no flies feasting on the area like at other buffets. Service is a bit of a mixed bag unless you know the folks who work here like my family does. The ladies at the front don't know me, so I guess they didn't feel like greeting me when I walked in... no worries, I can find my party myself. Whether you buffet or not, chips and salsa are delivered to your table. I appreciate our waitress obliging when I wanted a to-go cup for my drink. The buffet itself consists of enchiladas, tacos, chile rellenos, gorditas, beans, rice, salads, salsas, pico de gallo, fruit, and much more. Some vegetarian options are available. There is live music on Fridays for lunch. Their place - while noticeable water damage exists - is decorated nicely. There is a full bar. Their chairs are cool... padded seats with cut-outs on the backing that spell out their restaurant name. Lots of oilfield workers and their wives come here, so there is ample parking for their trucks/trailers/wive's Cadillacs and BMWs... Lol. I'll definitely be back for the buffet! Many folks park across the street and jaywalk. LOCATION/AMBIANCE Right away, I noticed all the Mexican bottled beers they offer. My brother mentioned the tables were new. THE GRUB There was complimentary chips and salsa. Not very spicy salsa, but well-blended and flavorful. I opted to start the meal off with a Carta Blanca cerveza mainly because I'd never tried it. It was alright. The alambre taco plate ($13). You can request flour tortillas for $1 extra, however, this dish is comprised of 4 small corn tortillas with a layer of "top sirloin with red peppers, green peppers, onions, and cheese. I was asked if I wanted beans and rice with it. I didn't understand the question. Isn't that standard protocol? I really enjoyed the tray of three salsas that they brought out with our food. The red one had a good kick. LITTLE YELPER'S CLUB I didn't have my kids in tow. Didn't see any kid's menu, but I'll check next time. SERVICE The two ladies serving the entire place were fast and friendly. MY FAVORITE PART... The amount of bell peppers in my alambre tacos. NOT SO FAVORITE PART... Bland beans and rice.

To begin with, the establishment is small and there are only a few parking spots. We were able to park across the street though, so no biggie. We walked inside and 50 million eyeballs all looked our way. We stood there not knowing if we had to sit ourselves or wait for the server. I finally approached the server and asked her what we had to do. She then pointed to a table right by the door for us to sit at, great. It was super busy and hot inside, and almost all the tables were taken. We quickly looked at the menu and knew we wanted tacos. The selection of meats is quite small and there is not a lot to pick from. I went with the steak tacos with everything on top and the hubs had the alambre tacos. He also ordered a michelada. Chips and salsa were brought out right away. The salsa was muy caliente. Our food didn't take too long and both our dishes came with rice and beans. My steak tacos were dry AF. The meat was bland and it had a lot of fatty pieces. It was topped off with some chopped cucumbers and cilantro but nope it still had no flavor. The hubs also was not impressed and he said that his tacos weren't it. (That means it's a no) The michelada was good though! It was yummy! The rice and beans were also pretty good! Our sever came and went a few times, but I had to literally wave my cup in the air for a refill. The inside was hot and by the time we left, my back was sweaty... So sad I didn't like this place. It has potential though.

RATING BREAKDOWN Food: 5 | Service: 5 | Ambiance: 4 | Price: 4 PARKING I parked out front on the street. There is more parking nearby, though. LOCATION/AMBIANCE I was taken aback at how spacious it was inside. From Turner Street it seems like a small place. If you go through the front entrance, there are tables scattered everywhere. The menu and register are towards the back. Order there. Pay. Take your little ticket and they'll bring the food to you whether it's for takeout or dine-in. THE GRUB My grand total for the 1/4 chicken meal and a large agua de Jamaica was $12.36. The chicken meal came with two juicy, tender pieces of barbecued chicken, refried beans, rice, lime wedges, bagged onions, shredded lettuce, two slices of tomatoes, a grilled jalapeno, and your choice of three flour or corn tortillas... such a wonderfully-filling meal. The corn tortillas were good. Not my favorite, but good enough. The jamaica is made in-house and is such a great compliment to the saltiness of the chicken meal. If you've never tried agua de jamaica, its colors are rich due to it being partly made from dried hibiscus flowers. And don't forget, this is Mexican food, so you pronounce it "hah-MY-cah" - not like the Caribbean island nation. LITTLE YELPER'S CLUB They don't have a kid's menu to my knowledge. SERVICE Amicable and blazing fast... at least during the regular workday lunch hour. MY FAVORITE PART... The barbecued chicken. It's just like straight off the grill during summer nights at my own house. NOT SO FAVORITE PART... The place was packed for lunch! That's why I took mine to go. TIP Everyone - including the patrons - was so friendly and happy on 9/27/2023. Life is so much easier when you choose to be happy!

We went in thru the back and we sat down right away. The menu is posted along side the wall by the register, but they also have small menus on the sides of the napkin holders. The waitress quickly came on over and brought us some chips, pickled onions, and salsa. The salsa was good but the chips were obviously store bought. We got two Mexican sodas and decided we were ready to order, since we already knew what we wanted. We both ordered two plates of a 1/4 chicken with corn tortillas. I also decided I wanted to try out their papa asada. (Grilled potato) We didn't wait too long for our food to come out. The chicken was perfectly charred and very juicy. The plate is pretty big. It came with two pieces of chicken, rice, a small salad, beans, and a grilled jalapeño. They do have fresh guacamole and grilled potatoes for an additional cost. The food was delicious and the service was great. This is definitely your spot if your looking for a home cooked meal type of dish. They only sell grilled chicken, so don't go in wanting to order something else!

Our waitress came on over right away and dropped off menus and took our drink orders. We had two horchatas. We decided to pick from the menu and not go with the buffet they offer for lunch. The buffet in my opinion did not look fresh and did not have enough options. I ordered a chicken tostada and the flautas entree, while my friend ordered a smothered chicken chimichanga. My chicken tostada was soggy by the time it made itself my way. It was loaded with beans, chicken, lettuce, and some other toppings so it broke when I picked it up. My chicken flautas were plain and just missing flavor. My friends chimi was superr salty and so she decided not to eat it. Our drinks sat empty for sometime and when we looked for our server she was sitting at a booth talking to what seemed her friend. So I waved her down to get some refills. The horchata was pretty good!! We needed boxes and she never came back to us so so we grabbed the ones from the buffet line. Food wasn't all that great and the service was ehhh..
