It was a surprise to find a Thai restaurant in Plattsburgh. Guess that's because I'm a visitor here. I was more surprised to not find anyone serving or at the counter who was Asian. Not trying to stereotype, but it made me wonder what the food would be like. The restaurant itself is very informal, like an enhanced takeout. The menu is varied and a mix of Thai and Vietnamese. Frankly, I'd already decided what I wanted when I arrived. I wanted duck. They have three defined duck dishes and I selected the spicy basil duck because its a staple in any good Thai restaurant. The volume of thick sliced duck in this dish surpassed anything I had ever had in a Thai restaurant. The flavors were very well blended, the vegetables were correctly proportioned to the dish (usually over represented compared to the duck) and it was appropriately crispy but not over cooked. The only problem is that it wasn't in the least spicy which was disappointing. So I guess, in upstate NY, they dilute the spice for this population. In NYC orSan Francisco this degree of blandness would never be expected or accepted in something labeled as "spicy" on the menu. I also tried the "tiger rolls" which were supposed to contain crab but I couldn't be sure that they did because the cream cheese base to the filling was about all I tasted. The sweet sauce provided was so thin it didn't really flavor the rolls. Finally, the waiter was young, stressed with the busy restaurant, very nice but delayed in getting my beer to the table (and multiple items to the adjacent table too). Lastly, one pair of the reusable chopsticks they supplied in the can at the table were dirty. Yuck. Made me wonder about cleanliness in the kitchen. In summary, a reasonable though bland dinner with overall good flavor in a relaxed atmosphere. The menu choices might call me back to try different dishes. But dirty reusable chopsticks are a yuck factor. I'll not go back. read more

Sawatdee needs to decide what it wants to be. The downtown restaurant has always been mediocre Thai food that never offered the spice range that a good Thai restaurant would. Then they decided to open this place and get into the Vietnamese food market. They do an even worse job of that. The tom yum and the pho are watery with no depth of flavor. The pad Thai is bland and dry. Thai food should be a blend of salty, sweet, spicy, and sour. Every dish that I have tried at this or the downtown location has lacked this balance. Far too often the dishes are too sweet with little spice or sour notes. If you want decent Thai food go to The Thai House in St. Albans, VT. If you want good Vietnamese food try Pho Dang in Essex Junction, VT. If you are in Albany, NY try Pho Yum for their banh mi sandwich. Their pho is not bad either. read more

Great service and good food. Try the tropical fried rice. My wife and I are hooked on it. My only gripe us that although the menu offers many choices, it does not offer as many dishes as other Thai restaurants that we've frequented in larger cities. The dining area is also a bit small. YUCK. Awful. I was so mad at myself to waste my hard earned money on such garbage food. I don't know how they can claim to put Pad Thai on the menu because it was not like anything I've ever tasted. If you can't even make Pad Thai, then you need to close it down. Tom Yum soup was tasteless water. The spring rolls tasteless with minute tiny pieces of pork, barely knew it had meat. My entrée of Massamun Curry with beef was atrocious, the meat, if that's what they call it was disgusting. I try not to be wasteful and I got take out for lunch but ended up throwing it the garbage when I got back to work. YUCK is all I can think of when I think of this place. It's the best/only "thai" food you'll get in Plattsburgh. The pad thais are more like stir fry noodles. The curry has the consistency of soup. Don't set your expectations too high! I would not consider this authentic but it is Plattsburgh! read more

Worst Thai Viet restaurant ever! It was a cold day and beef pho was what I had a taste for. I was very disappointed when I only got 4 basil leaves and 1/8 cup of bean sprouts to mix into my soup and the waiter refused to give me some more!! The beef was tough and thick unlike the usual thin sliced and tender ones I'm used to. After I had the cup of hot broth and a couple of bites of the rice noodles I left very disappointed. In addition I had to ask for the hot sauce and plum sauce to add flavor to the pho instead of being on the table like a regular pho restaurant. Maybe it's more of a Thai restaurant instead of a Vietnamese one? The poor service and so so pho made the cold weather worst! read more

My girlfriend introduced me to this place and I've been going ever since! I recently have been on a soup noodle kick and decided to try their Bangkok Tom Yum with the thin ramen-like noodles. The noodles and the soup were great if you dine in. However, if you order them to-go, the noodles turn into a big brick every time I've ordered since they're in a separate container from the soup. Maybe you guys should put some oil in the noodles to make them not stick together and possibly even vinegar. I LOVE the Thai Tea - whether it's to-go or dining in, it's always consistently flavored and sweetened. I also really enjoy the Combination Massamun Curry dish because it has layers of sweet and spicy flavor as well as the shrimp, chicken and beef. read more

Very pleased. Cant believe I did not know this place was here. Apps all very good. And pho was wonderful. Simetimes I avoid ordering beef pho because the beef can be minimal and low quality but this was plentiful, good thick sliced beef, well trimmed and fresh and the best meatballs of any pho I've ever had. So satisfied. He had a chicken pinaple cashew meal. Again good portion with lots of good thick chicken and lots of flavor. We will be back every time we are in plattsburgh. read more

If you have been to a lot of Vietnamese restaurants with good pho, don't order it here. It does not have the traditional flavors. But otherwise the food is good. Drunken noodles are the best thing here. I have a feeling the food is more northern style. read more

I've been in plattsburgh for a few months and there were a few restaurants that the city didnt have that i was used to. I was pretty excited when I came across Sawatdee Thai on an evening drive, cause i've been craving thai food for a long time, especially pho. So i order some pho for takeout and a few other items, getting my hopes up to finally be able to eat my favorite meal, my hope completely diminished as soon as I open a container full of only broth. They had forgotten to put the noodles in with my order, the restaurant was already closed by the time I found out.
