I am a huge fan of Vietnamese and Thai food. I finally tried this place for a Bahn Mi. I got the Saigon Special and it was $8.75. Versions of ham and a pate' on a French bread roll with cilantro and vegetables. The sandwich was prepared quickly and service was friendly in a small, dark take out shop. But the sandwich itself was a dud. First, every bahn mi I have ever had juliennes the veg into matchsticks that are suitable for a sandwich. Here the cuts were fat and clunky and ill adapted. The size of crinkle cut fries. One bite of ham seemed to still have the "ham jelly" you get on a canned ham. Perhaps that's normal but it was an off putting surprise. The pate' was good but there could have been more than just a very thin coat. Bread was good but it was an overall disappointment. Probably will have to try another spot. read more

These sandwiches are alright in a pinch. It came out a little too fast and everything was cold. The price was right but the taste was just not there. The beef was very greasy and tasted like burnt oil. Probably won't be back. read more

I agree highly with many of the other reviews. If you get a sandwich here, ask for extra sauce as they're a little dry because the bread is big. Very nice and quick service and excellent value. Not too much in the way of ambiance as it is more of a takeout spot. read more

The pork lemongrass Bahn-mi Sandwich was very good. Vegetables were very fresh, pork was flavorful and the bread was great. Bigger than I expected. Could have a little more fillings to bread ratio but overall was very satisfied and would go back again. It was very clean and nice inside, no qualms with service. read more

Came back here after gradation yesterday because I didn't want to deal with graduation traffic in Burlington with my family of 13. Wanted to have their bahn mi before I leave and since my family was starving it is a great to go place. Noticed they have added an addition to the restaurant- the banh mi cafe! Looks really cute! We came 30 mins before opening but they were super nice about it and opened the door for us to order. My family may have been a pain so I hope they don't regret opening that door but I was super appreciated of it! My family loves the subs and thought they were super huge and filling. Ordered the Hue Style beef soup. I was very disappointed when the menu's said "rice noodles" but found they used spaghetti noodles (flower) from a box. I hate it when small restaurants cut corners, and false advertise. Otherwise the broth was okay but was over priced for spaghetti noodles and cabbage. Service was good. Sasha was very pleasant. But I would not feel good recommending this vietnamese restaurant as a go to place. However if you really want pho, go to Pho Dang, it's worth the drive. read more

I bought two banh minh and iced coffee here, all 3 options didn't disappoint. Food was freshly prepared and made in 10 minutes; I'm glad I stopped here. I haven't been able to get banh minh around where I live for anywhere close to $5 so it was refreshing to find that here. It reminded of home. I'm glad I came here and would gladly come again. I ordered the grilled pork and crispy pork banh minh, which I quickly inhaled. It was a good balance of pickled veggies, meat, and spicy mayo. Hands down the worst bahn mi sandwich I've ever had in my entire life. So disappointed I needed a second meal and a stiff drink right after to forget I was ever there. I am a great fan of Vietnamese food, and was pleased to spot M-Saigon en route home from downtown Burlington. My main (lemongrass curry [soup]) was fine. But I am really annoyed about my beverage. It was listed as "Vietnamese fresh lemonade." I was handed a plastic cup, sealed with plastic, full of ice, and without the slightest evidence of lemon juice. I was charged $3.75 for this. I know Vietnamese lemonade and it is very good. This was pretty much ice water. I should have refused to pay, but the young woman at the front of the house, while mannerly and courteous, seemed overwhelmed by seating people, taking orders, answering the phone, and running up credit cards. I had to ask her to take my order, then I had to remind her I had ordered the lemonade. I wish I hadn't reminded her. I feel ripped off. read more

Ordered pho for takeout. They don't like to pick up the phone, so I had to call a few times before they picked up. They can't understand English, so I couldn't get uncooked noodles from the lady on the phone or the guy in person. Basil almost all old and rotten. Limes and bean sprouts clearly old and going/gone bad. How does this place even stay open? Also the menu on their website is wrong, as they no longer serve Cajun seafood (crawfish etc). Stay away. I keep wanting to like this place because it's nearby and I love Vietnamese food but it's inconsistent and when I tried to return my Bahn Mi sandwich because the chicken was so dried out like jerky they refused to refund me. I had to threaten to call the police in order to get my money back. Another time there was plastic wrap in my curry. Not to mention the roaches. This place needs to be shut down. read more

The bubble tea here is fantastic. I also really like the summer rolls. For more entree-type things, what I've tried has not been amazing but has been pretty good. I had the curry noodles and really liked them. My partner had the pad Thai and it was basically all fish sauce. The tiger rolls were a bit soggy and not very crispy but tasted good. Favorite place in town for an inexpensive date night or an end-of-the-day, can't-stand-to-cook night. The bahn mi can't be beat for freshness - two make a good meal. I usually order lemongrass tofu or good karma rice with spring rolls. The Vietnamese crispy crepe is the best if you're eating in, but doesn't do well in takeout containers. Went today with my family. My aunt ordered chicken pho and was dismayed to find a cockroach in her soup. The staff was very apologetic and nice about it, but it's still unacceptable. The chef came out to talk to us and told us that the cockroaches are in the ceiling and walls and they check the food for bugs before they serve it. The owner of the building should be ashamed. I wouldn't recommend eating at either of the restaurants (Union Jacks) in this plaza until the bug situation is taken care of. read more

If you go to any other Vietnamese restaurant in Boston, NYC or LA, you go in to eat the food and then get emotionally neglected by staff. Normal etiquette. If you don't like the service, then get take out. I got the Banh Mi and Pho. Really good quality, reminds me of home, minus the tomato in the sandwich. I'm a believer. I had never actually had a banh mi before. It was late morning and I hadn't yet eaten. Boyfriend kept insisting that I try one for breakfast since he was buying one for lunch. I, of course, was having none of this. I wanted coffee and donut-like things. We agreed that we'd stop at M. Saigon for his banh mi and then head to Starbucks for my sugar. Well, the place smelled delicious, even given my picky morning stomach. His banh mi only cost $3.25, which was quite impressive for the size of it. AND they had a tofu option. I was beginning to regret my decision. On the way out, he had me try a bite of the bread. WHOA my God, sold! Flaky, buttery, baked fresh that morning. "You know what?" I asked him, "I think I need one of those." He smiled knowingly. As did the girl behind the counter. I can count on one hand the amount of times I've had non-breakfast food for my first meal of the day. And oh boy, this was one of them. The thing is chock-full of pickled yummy (that's right, I said YUMMY) things. You can add chili peppers, which gives it a spicy kick, though I would have preferred a little more heat. It kind of faded by the fourth or so bite. The tofu was shredded and mixed with rice noodles. And did I mention the butter? Ohhh sweet garlic. We also had dinner here on a different night. The green curry, my all-time favorite, performed well. It was a bit too soupy for my liking, but made up for it with plenty of vegetables. How many times do you order a curry and rice dish to find that "veggies" apparently means Thai basil and bok choy only? Not the case here. There were carrots, broccoli, squash, etc. etc. I was pleased. I would have preferred it a bit spicier, however. I feel like they gave me White Girl spicy instead of Thai spicy. Oh well. Important point here: although the dish is a bit more expensive than what I've typically found in Sacramento, the price does not go up depending on the kind of meat (or meat substitute) that you order. This means that I was able to order prawns with my curry for the same price as the tofu would have been. Good news for me, bad news for you if you plan to order tofu or chicken. My companion's pho was a bit disappointing, however. The noodles resembled spaghetti just a little too closely. He had veggie broth so that I could try it, and had to do a great deal of doctoring to make it flavorful enough for his discerning palate. Overall, however, good times were had by all at M. Saigon. Burlington doesn't have a ton of ethnic food options, but I was pretty impressed by this one. read more

In an area where there is little variety in the culinary division, M-Saigon might be a favorite of a food adventurer. Hell, if M-Saigon was situated here where I live, I might be a regular. But, if I lived in Burlington, and I was craving for Vietnamese food, I'd be willing to drive a little further to Pho Dang in Winooski instead. When it comes to Bahn Mi which are Vietnamese sandwiches, this place makes a mean and delicious ones. The bread is fresh, the veges, meat, and sauce hits the right spot. The sandwiches are super cheap at roughly $3.50 each and they are filling. This is by far the best place in the Burlington area where you'll find a finger licking Bahn Mi. The other items on the menu are pretty good too but I generally come here for the sandwiches. read more

5 stars because all I eat here is Banh Mi (Vietnamese sandwiches). I'm curving my rating since this is Vermont. I've eaten every sandwich on that menu. Hands down, #2 (bbq pork vietnamese sandwich) is the go to item. Sandwiches are like $3.50 which is really a STEAL especially for a starving student like me. They make the bread fresh and it tastes crunchy when you first bite into it. This isn't comparable to Los Angeles, but somehow I managed to find my banh mi fix in the smack dab middle of Vermont. I'd always get 2. Eat 1 now and save the other for snack. The place isn't so big, but it usually isn't so packed when I go. I have a $5 off $25 purchase coupon from UVM campus. I use it when I go eat with a large group. That $5 coupon gives me another free sandwich. Yea, I'm super picky on getting that extra sandwich because I'm Asian. This is one of the select joints in my rotation for Asian food. read more

Coming from NY/NJ where Vietnamese food is found in every city and town, I have come to taste and for the most part enjoy many flavors and styles associated with this type of cuisine. Traveling to VT is no exception. The introduction of international cuisine has made places like Burlington, VT an eclectic staple in the gastro-eclectic world. The food was really good at M-Saigon (which by the way makes Me want to listen to Miss Saigon every time I mention the restaurant's name). I ordered a a late night dinner of the classic Bahn mi (#1), the BBQ Pork Bahn Mi (#2), and the Shrimp Summer Roll. All were cooked and prepared perfectly with the perfect meld of flavors, heat, and spices. The facility was very clean and the staff are warm, welcoming, and more than willing to talk to you about their menu - and what they recommend. read more

The soup was watered down, not much meat at all, but they had no problems giving me lots of what I can only imagine as maybe knuckles fat, tendons, and cartilage off something, Im still gagging. We were just getting into town around dinner time and saw M Saigon when sat a red light. We pulled in and luckily so. We got take out. I thought I ordered the rare beef pho but got that special. It was delicious. The broth was really rich and there was marrow in it. The wonton noodle soup was delicious too. There was an off menu item on a white board, steamed bun. It wasn't as described but was very good. It had bbq pork in it I believe. The grilled pork rice was fine but not nearly as memorable as the soups. read more

Yum yum yum yum.... I discovered this little gem of a restaurant earlier this week. I went back for lunch today to try a bahn mi sandwich, which is something I had never had before. I read other reviews on Yelp about their bahn mi, so figured that I needed to try one!! So delicious...flaky, buttery bread...delicious filling (I had Vietnamese bbq pork), pickled veggies...absolutely delicious. I of course can't compare this to other bahn mi's, because this was my first one - but it was really really yummy... Highly recommend!!!! I think I found a new favorite lunch spot! read more

In theory it's fantastic that there are so many pho options in Burlington. This place has wonderful pho. My BBQ Bahn Mi was not so hot...the bread and veggies were fine, the meat however looked like a piece of walmart grilled sliced deli ham with some bbq sauce. I suspect this was just a glitch...I'll come back and try something else. Two starts also removed for the cashier asking me if I "wanted change" for a take out order. Just tacky in my book. read more
