This is a cute breakfast place in Lunenburg. I really wanted this to be a 5. The dishes were fine, not special. I got a Po boy scallop sandwich. It was ok, but was a little plain. We also had a chicken Cesar salad wrap, a haddock burrito, and savvy brekky (eggs, bacon, toast and hadh browns). Everything was fine, but... The Cesar salad wrap was dry, could have used more dressing. The haddock burrito was light on the haddock, and a bit flavorless. Therl scallop po boy was also fine. The first time my girlfriend and I attended lunch service at the Savvy Sailor we were pleasantly surprised, with the competition for your business in beautiful Lunenburg, it is no small feat to gain business. We were so impressed with the meal we came back the next day to order it again. The hollandaise was creamy and light, the eggs poached to near perfection. The bread was just the right amount of crunchy and the service was spectacular. The experience at the Savvy Sailor will be considered my gold standard of dining experience. The Savvy Sailor was a great place to enjoy an amazing breakfast and overlook the harbor of Lunenberg. We were able to get a seat quickly and the staff were very nice and attentive. I enjoyed a lobster benedict which had amazing claw meat from a lobster with poached eggs on an english muffin, smothered in hollandaise sauce. This was a real treat and a wonderful variance from your normal everyday style of eggs benedict. My wife had the bacon benedict which was also delicious, but most notable was the flavor of the bacon. The bacon was smoky and hearty, it was some really great bacon. They also serve a potato rosti as a side item you can add to your meal which were very good as well, we did have to salt it a bit, but it was something that we wanted to try while we were there. In addition, they have a really nice coffee bar here that makes some great coffee drinks. read more

Excellent option for breakfast, especially since it's open earlier than several other restaurants in town. We arrived early on a cold, rainy day (it was a downpour!) but still enjoyed sitting next to the open screen door and taking in lovely views of the misty harbour. I had the Savvy Brekkie ($10.50) and it was a fantastic start to the day. The bacon was so smoky and delicious, the eggs were cooked well, the potato rosti was nice and a unique element to the dish, and the highlight was the seven grain toast. Enjoyed an awesome Saturday brunch on the patio with my husband while visiting the picturesque town of Lunenburg. We arrived and were seated on a lovely spot on the patio, overlooking the water - so pretty. I opted for the lobster eggs benny, and my husband went with the scallop po' boy plus we added a small cabbage/peanut salad. Everything was super delicious. The hollandaise sauce on the benny was amongst the best I've ever had - so velvety and buttery, OMG YUM. Super tender chunks of lobster on top of a perfectly toasted English muffin were a delight. Bae loved his po' boy and the cabbage/peanut salad was delicious too. Seeing they had a chocolate peanut butter pie on the menu, I had to order to try it out - and it was increds. If you like peanut butter and chocolate, make sure you try this dessert! read more

Being quite tired we stopped by this place after having lunch in a profound state of despair in the hunt for a decent caffeine intake (i.e. expresso). But firstly the place was located in Lunenburg a small but pretty town by the ocean in Nova Scotia. Very scenic place with friendly people. We had two cafés, a blueberry tart and some muffins to feed the kids. The staff was friendly and accommodating as most people would come for lunch at this place. Of all the restaurants I managed to stop by on my trip to Nova Scotia, Savvy Sailor was THE BEST stop I could have made. The shop is very small and they have a nice patio outside but the place itself can't seat too many people. Po'Boy 5/5 One of the best sandwiches ever!! This is a must try. The sandwich included very very fresh scallops and added an overall burst of flavour with the bacon on the side. Of course, I got it without mayo and thought it tasted much fresher and classy. This is a must! Lobster Roll 5/5 Although it is a whopping price of ~$20, the lobster was really fresh in comparison to other stores. It was a really small portion but what can you expect from lobster. Chicken Pesto Panini 4/5 If you don't like seafood this is the dish for you. The chicken was a little bit dry but the pesto helped add A LOT of flavour and I really enjoyed the taste. Smoked Salmon Panini 2.5/5 Not the best dish on the menu. The salmon was very very smoked and salted on top of that. There was also a lot of salmon-liquids dripping out with every bite and made the panini really soggy. Mussels 5/5 ! The mussels were super super worth it and for $14 the flavour was outstanding. It really was all you could expect from seafood in Nova Scotia. My friend got the white win and garlic seasoning and I still have the aroma lingering on my palette. If you're in Lunenburg, make sure you stop by the Savvy Sailor! read more

Oh, wished they were open in the evening, too! We had a late lunch. My husband had breakfast (although it was after 1) and I had the cod cakes with a beet salad. After a week in NS, I was so happy to be somewhere without an over abundance of grease. The cod cakes were pan fried with a crisp crust but not oily. The beet salad was crisp and full of flavor. Absolutely the best breakfast in town with an excellent lunch menu as well. Add great service to this and you have a restaurant to add to your to do list. The only drawback is that seating is limited so there is often a wait. But the wait is worth it so don't let this keep you away. read more

This was our first lunch while touring from Halifax around the Nova Scotia coast, clockwise. We wanted to spend a little time in Lunenberg with its scenic harbor and waterfront. We just happened to stop into The Savvy Sailor and had a great lunch. Ms T had the Fish Burger which was pan seared haddock with arugula, tomato and some sauce. The sesame bun was sized perfectly. This was excellent. The fish was obviously fresh and being pan seared, did not have a heavy breading. It was mildly flavorful and melted in your mouth. We can recommend this anytime it is on their menu. I choose Haddock Chowder which was one of best I had on the trip. It was creamy and light, but not thickened which is very nice. The flavors were excellent and salt was proper. It had carrots and onions and was served with good herbed bread. This was a great lunch, with a view of the water, washed down by a couple of Propeller Beers. Savvy Sailor is a nice little place with good homemade food. Wanted to try their late breakfast (served till 1pm!), but missed it by the time a table was available. The view from the terrace is amazing by the way! Our table ordered the scallop club po'boy, fish burger, and Atlantic lobster roll. The po'boy comes with 6 huge scallops from the local Adams & Knickle (possibly the freshest scallops I've had). The lobster roll was decent sized with chunks of perfectly marinated lobster. The fish burger featured a well seared haddock. I highly recommend this restaurant if you're in Lunenburg! My first trip to the south shore today for a day of lunching and shopping - and was delighted to see a new resto in the town. The Savvy Sailor has only been open a couple of weeks so 3 stars will suffice. My friends and I had mixed reviews - we either loved, liked or meh'ed what we had. However the owner was there and more than curious about our feedback as they are perfecting their menu. It's mostly light salads and fancy sandwiches. A great patio overlooking the water. We picked this place based on previous reviews - glad we did! The food was excellent and the atmosphere was really nice. It had an amazing view of the harbour and didn't feel touristy in any way, even though I imagine it's quite a popular spot. The only thing was that it was a bit busy when we went, so the service lacked a little. We ordered a few things (appetizer and later a drink) that were never brought, and didn't see the waitress but maybe twice. But based on other reviews, it doesn't seem like that happens too much. Stopped by for lunch on my way through town, looking for a good lobster roll. Being from Boston I'm not exactly starved for high quality lobster, but wanted to see how Nova Scotia would stack up. Three stars for the food - the lobster roll was fine, but nothing to write home about. For the price ($18) I was expecting better, honestly. A few meager pieces of arugula and parsley were, other than a meager side portion of decidedly average cole slaw, the only greenery on the plate to be found. And the portion was not exactly filling - especially when I considered that the place next door offered the same thing for the same price, plus fries. (They don't take credit, though, which at least this place cheerfully did.) Service was fast and friendly, and the location can't be beat. Great views of the ships in the water down below. In sum, your typical tourist restaurant, with tourist prices. Lovely place to stop by for some drinks and quick, polite service - but maybe try the mussels instead. If you're on a budget, consider the Subway down the street selling a lobster meat sub for $8. read more

This lovely cafe was one of the few places open on Easter Monday. The rest of Lunenburg seemed to be still in hibernation til May. There were a number of interesting things on the menu, but our second day in Canada, we were still committed to eating seafood across NS. So I got the salted cod cake and husband got the scallop po boy. Both dishes had amazing, fresh ingredients. See my pics. The problem was that there wasn't much flavor. Sure the bacon helped with the po boy....as did the jam with the cod, but it just didn't have that oomph to take it to the next level. I didn't know what to expect with the cod cake, but it was fish flake mixed with mashed potato and probably egg and flour to bind and then fried. Service was great, and as already noted by many others, location and view from the cafe were idyllic. However, given price point, serving size, and taste, they didn't really hit any of them with our entrees. It was a fun experience nonetheless, and I'd still recommend coming here to support this industrious little cafe. read more

We originally wanted to go to Fish Shack down the street, but was recommend to this place from a local. We were very impressed. The view from the patio was gorgeous. The seafood chowder was pretty average. The seafood platter was delicious. The mussels are a must, we had a lot of fun deshelling them. The cod cakes were not that good, very potato heavy, could not taste the cod. Overall, we enjoyed our lunch here and the food was fresh and wonderful. Must try the local beer! read more

The food was absolutely delicious. Party of the 3 (one baby though). We ordered the lobster roll. It was plenty of lobster on the roll. My wife didn't like heaps of mayo, so we requested it to be placed on the side which they did. The bun was toasty and held the lobster in place. We also ordered the chowder which was very tasty and plentiful. It was a cold wet day when we went so the chowder hit the spot. Finished off with a peanut butter pie.
