Scallop po boy
Stuart O.

This is a cute breakfast place in Lunenburg. I really wanted this to be a 5. The dishes were fine, not special. I got a Po boy scallop sandwich. It was ok, but was a little plain. We also had a chicken Cesar salad wrap, a haddock burrito, and savvy brekky (eggs, bacon, toast and hadh browns). Everything was fine, but... The Cesar salad wrap was dry, could have used more dressing. The haddock burrito was light on the haddock, and a bit flavorless. Therl scallop po boy was also fine. By far the best party of lunch was the peanut butter pie

Atlantic Bennies with potato rosti

The first time my girlfriend and I attended lunch service at the Savvy Sailor we were pleasantly surprised, with the competition for your business in beautiful Lunenburg, it is no small feat to gain business. We were so impressed with the meal we came back the next day to order it again. The hollandaise was creamy and light, the eggs poached to near perfection. The bread was just the right amount of crunchy and the service was spectacular. The experience at the Savvy Sailor will be considered my gold standard of dining experience. I highly recommend this small Cafe with a beautiful overlook of the bay. If you can get a seat on the deck it's an experience you will remember for years to come.

Lobster Benedict

The Savvy Sailor was a great place to enjoy an amazing breakfast and overlook the harbor of Lunenberg. We were able to get a seat quickly and the staff were very nice and attentive. I enjoyed a lobster benedict which had amazing claw meat from a lobster with poached eggs on an english muffin, smothered in hollandaise sauce. This was a real treat and a wonderful variance from your normal everyday style of eggs benedict. My wife had the bacon benedict which was also delicious, but most notable was the flavor of the bacon. The bacon was smoky and hearty, it was some really great bacon. They also serve a potato rosti as a side item you can add to your meal which were very good as well, we did have to salt it a bit, but it was something that we wanted to try while we were there. In addition, they have a really nice coffee bar here that makes some great coffee drinks.

Excellent option for breakfast, especially since it's open earlier than several other restaurants in town. We arrived early on a cold, rainy day (it was a downpour!) but still enjoyed sitting next to the open screen door and taking in lovely views of the misty harbour. I had the Savvy Brekkie ($10.50) and it was a fantastic start to the day. The bacon was so smoky and delicious, the eggs were cooked well, the potato rosti was nice and a unique element to the dish, and the highlight was the seven grain toast. Definitely ask for the homemade raspberry jam to go with it...perfection. Coffee was a cut above average as well.

Being quite tired we stopped by this place after having lunch in a profound state of despair in the hunt for a decent caffeine intake (i.e. expresso). But firstly the place was located in Lunenburg a small but pretty town by the ocean in Nova Scotia. Very scenic place with friendly people. We had two cafés, a blueberry tart and some muffins to feed the kids. The staff was friendly and accommodating as most people would come for lunch at this place. I kind of regret not having had lunch here as this was typical of the by the Harbor cosy type of restaurant. Decoration was simple yet elegant, I wish I could return here any ti e soon.

Of all the restaurants I managed to stop by on my trip to Nova Scotia, Savvy Sailor was THE BEST stop I could have made. The shop is very small and they have a nice patio outside but the place itself can't seat too many people. Po'Boy 5/5 One of the best sandwiches ever!! This is a must try. The sandwich included very very fresh scallops and added an overall burst of flavour with the bacon on the side. Of course, I got it without mayo and thought it tasted much fresher and classy. This is a must! Lobster Roll 5/5 Although it is a whopping price of ~$20, the lobster was really fresh in comparison to other stores. It was a really small portion but what can you expect from lobster. Chicken Pesto Panini 4/5 If you don't like seafood this is the dish for you. The chicken was a little bit dry but the pesto helped add A LOT of flavour and I really enjoyed the taste. Smoked Salmon Panini 2.5/5 Not the best dish on the menu. The salmon was very very smoked and salted on top of that. There was also a lot of salmon-liquids dripping out with every bite and made the panini really soggy. Mussels 5/5 ! The mussels were super super worth it and for $14 the flavour was outstanding. It really was all you could expect from seafood in Nova Scotia. My friend got the white win and garlic seasoning and I still have the aroma lingering on my palette. If you're in Lunenburg, make sure you stop by the Savvy Sailor!

Cod cakes, rhubarb sauce and beet salad
Teri S.

Oh, wished they were open in the evening, too! We had a late lunch. My husband had breakfast (although it was after 1) and I had the cod cakes with a beet salad. After a week in NS, I was so happy to be somewhere without an over abundance of grease. The cod cakes were pan fried with a crisp crust but not oily. The beet salad was crisp and full of flavor. The coffee from a local roastery was rich. My husband loved his meal also. The staff was friendly and efficient. Hats off to the chef!

Haddock and scallop po boy!

Really good experience. Our server was attentive to our needs and pleasant! The haddock was seared to perfection! The seating was pleasant by the window, with a nice breeze coming in off the water! They take credit cards. There was plenty of on street parking nearby!

Skip the lobster bennie. Not much taste, and lobster meat was dry and only claw meat. What a disappointment for the its value!!!

Decent breakfasts. Service is usually good, but isn't open year round. Good coffee, and affordable.

What a great place to stay and brunch!…read more It is a lovely old house on the main street of Lunenburg. It has a fantastic balance of old and new: - lovely antique furniture, floor coverings, exquisite old light fixtures, etc. - exercise room, high speed internet, business centre, flat screen TV + DVD player in the room. We were blown away by the small touches as the modern stemware in the rooms, updated bathrooms and complementary chocolates on the bed. The bed was a dream to sleep on, once the pillows were cleared and stacked in the corner:-) Nice light cozy comforter on the bed. Now for breakfast - simply fantastic! Cold buffet with solomon gundy, smoked salmon, cheeses, etc.. A bread stack that included fresh from the oven croissants. We went with the a la carte eggs benedict - and don't let them give you the back bacon - go for the smoked salmon option - yummmmmm!!! We will definitely be going back. The question is only whether it will be another mid-winter, off season fantastically priced get-away or a full priced mid-summer Lunenburg folk festival week? Not to be missed!

We only stayed one night in the Cranberry suites, but we had a fantastic time! Each room looks…read moredifferent but are all decorated similarly. Our suites were very quaint and east coast-like. The beds were very comfortable and they even included complementary chocolates which were a nice treat. There were two TVs, one in the bedroom and one in the living area. They also had a fireplace in the bedroom and in the living area as well as a stereo alarm clock. We went to the continental breakfast in the morning which we really enjoyed. There was a nice selection of simple breakfast foods such as smoked salmon, cheese, toast with jams, muffins etc. You should definitely check this place out if you're looking to stay in Lunenburg.

This little gem is located between Lunenburg and Mahone Bay. Everything is homemade - from breads…read moreto baking. You can custom order your breakfast/lunch. I had the breakfast sandwich with bacon and egg on chive bread with homemade tomato jam and my hubby had a freshly made omelette. We took two cinnamon buns to go! This is an absolute must stop - normally I am not even a breakfast fan The employees were lovely and the ambience was warm and welcoming!

Hi! WELL, what a pleasant surprise! A new Restaurant…read morethat sprung up! We arrived just as they closed, haha... but they let us in to chat and buy some of their DELICIOUS baking... Which is ALL made from scratch!! All their Breads are home made and NOT brought in, like at the Rose Bistro down the road.... The owner of this "Hungry Traveler" and their staff are warm and kind people! There is outside Patio Seating, TONS of Parking, and it's at: 10117 Highway 3... Phone: 902-518-2535 .... It's on the way to the Rose Bistro, [which we will NEVER patronize again]... Their menu is "All Day Breakfast"... and Sandwich type Brunch! They also cater trays... They have a "Build your OWN" Breakfast... The place is seemingly serene... [with none of the 'out of control' kids or over-crowding, like at that Rose Bistro down the road]... Their food offerings are cheaper and budget friendly....And they do not 'push you through' to get to the next customer, like the Bistro... The Brunch Sandwiches look amazing... and we intend to eat our way through their menu offerings!! The Sandwiches are decent sized... with HOME-MADE Bread!! We are going back for their Vietnamese Sandwich... It's traditional, right down to the marinated Chicken, Pickled Daikon & Carrot Slaw, fresh Cilantro etc.... The Curried Chicken looks great, and so does the Vegan Mashed Buffalo Chick Peas... It will be hard to decide what to eat after the Vietnamese Sandwich for sure!!! And the place is immaculate! The "Hungry Traveler" has our attention and our cash! Reading between the lines, you can probably tell we had just experienced "A Brunch from hell" at the Rose Bistro down the road... screaming/crying kids...Parents ignoring the bad behavior, some were running around... ...We grabbed our cutlery and water and went outside... We DIDN'T enjoy our meal which cost around $48.00 ... We had some nice times there, but are fed up with the WILDLIFE... this was a BOMB...and we will never return.

I will start by saying that I can absolutely appreciate the impact of the pandemic on restaurants…read more Having said that, putting up posters claiming that there's a 'labour shortage' is just bad practice. Had we noticed that prior to ordering, we would have walked out. We were pretty hungry from driving on our road trip and wanted a decent sit down meal and found pretty good reviews for this place. Upon ordering, it was immediately clear why there was a 'labour shortage' for this owner. The person taking our order at the counter (no table service currently), was the most surly old hag I've ever met. If I wasn't already so hangry and didn't have to wait another hour for one of the other restaurants to open, I would have walked right out. She was crotchety and just seemed generally angry to have to be doing any work at her own establishment. It's really too bad because the food was pretty good here but we couldn't get past how awful of a person this owner was. When the one and only staff member came out to ask us how our meal was, we had to ask if that lady was the owner and what her problem was. We told her that we were surprised anyone would run their business like that and she agreed by shaking her head but almost afraid to say anything. I really regret coming here and would not recommend it solely on the terrible attitude of the owner and the very obvious horrible working conditions for staff working here.

The crepes were absolutely amazing! Although it is very confusing because we walked into an empty…read moreplace and the person behind the counter said nothing.
