We found this place through Taste of Nova Scotia, culinary guide. It's a small restaurant near Peggy's Cove and worth a stop. Please make reservations, they get busy. We made reservation in the same day for dinner and got it but had to reschedule which they very kindly did. Jana our server was very kind and respectful, and got us started with biscuits and butter while we waited for our entrees. They have few vegetarian options of which we tried Portobello mushroom burger with fries and Agliolio. Both were flavorful. We also got a lemonade and an old fashioned, the drinks could use some refinement, both felt a little watery. For the desserts, we had pecan square with vanilla ice cream and rhubarb custard pie. We stumbled upon this lovely restaurant after touring Peggy's Cove. The name caught our attention, and it turns out my husband had been to the on-site resort, Oceanside for a friends wedding. The groom told us he thought the restaurant had changed hands a few times since - but we decided to pay homage to our friends, stay for dinner and enjoy the view. Luckily we arrived before the major dinner push and were able to eat outside on the covered patio. They had a shoshito pepper cocktail that blew my mind - 10 more please! Sooo unique, a little spicy and perfect for my pallet. Very pleased! My lobster roll looked very fancy but wasn't my favorite. I was glad to have the tomato soup as my side. Wonderful location and views and excellent service - very much enjoyed the IPA beer, the mushroom appetizer and the pecan square desert - however the fish tacos and burger were just OK and the French fries were over done and strangely bitter. All in all a very pleasant experience but wished the menu was a bit more extensive and up scale. read more

We had a very light meal for a late lunch. I had the soup of the day, smoked tomato soup. It was served piping hot and it was very tasty. My wife and I shared a small pizza and it too was very tasty. One reason we had such a light meal was that my wife wanted to sample the deserts at this restaurant. She ordered the gingerbread served hot with whipped cream and a light drizzle of rum sauce. It was a very light gingerbread and not too sweet. The ambience was excellent with a generous outdoor seating area overlooking the sea. It was a windy afternoon so we chose to sit indoors. The service was friendly, efficient and charming. I'll not likely be back this way for some time but I can surely recommend this restaurant to others. read more

Another restaurant that lived up to the hype on Yelp! We came here for a late lunch (around 1:30) on our way to Peggy's Cove, and were seated promptly. Great views and very friendly service. I had the lobster roll ($23) and it was probably the freshest lobster I've had. It was plated in a very interesting way (see pic) and was delicious in a light, herby mayo dressing with green onions and celery for some crunch. On the menu it said "Ryer's lobster" and I wondered what that meant...until we drove by Ryers lobster pound right down the road. No wonder it was so fresh! I had chowder as my side for a small additional charge. It was good, but a very light broth with a bunch of veggies in it. Just something to know if you prefer creamier chowders. We are local and this place got us through the pandemic. Food is always 10 out of 10 whether take away or eat in. Service is always excellent and Diane is the hardest working owner I've ever met. Hands down my favourite restaurant on our visit out to the East Coast. We normally don't repeat restaurants when we travel but we ate here multiple times during our short two night stay in Peggy's Cove. On our first visit, we checked in for one night at Oceanstone Resort (just behind the restaurant) and visited Rhubarb for an early dinner/late lunch. We enjoyed sitting on the patio, super relaxing with a nice drink. For our dinner, I opted for their seafood chowder with homemade buscuit and hubby chose their lobster roll. Everything was delicious, and the chowder was the best I've ever had. The biscuit was warm, buttery, and flaky - so amazing! Bae loved his lobster roll and said it was his fave he'd had ever. Dinner was so awesome that we ended up ordering a pizza for take out later that evening and it was so so good. The next day we decided to go back to Rhubarb after we'd checked out of Oceanstone (we were there for a one night stay) for lunch. Both of us chose the lunch fried fish sandwich and it was EPIC. This is the best fried fish sandwich I've ever had - so crunchy, flaky, tender, delicious. Housemade tartar sauce was delightful. My mouth is watering while I type this and I wish I could eat one right now! We ended up staying our second night down the road at the Lighthouse Lane Cottages and ordered ourselves another pizza with a side salad for dinner that night as well. Rhubarb also has a small section of locally made gifts, including incredible sea salt caramels made in house by their chef. We ended up ordering a few boxes to take home as presents - they are so so so good! Can't wait until I can come back again someday! read more

8 of us stopped in for lunch while touring Halifax. Between us we had The Big M, Speciality and Donaitor pizzas, seafood Chowder, lobster rolls and fish n chips. The fish n chips were very good although looked a tad overdone. Pizzas were good, thin crust and no complaints. Seafood chowder was enjoyable and contained quite a few veggies as well as lobster, mussels, salmon and haddock according to the consumer. Lobster rolls were delicious probably a 4/5* compared to all the others we've had on this trip so far. Specialty soup maple squash was lovely and a nice little kick at the end of each bite. We got a beet salad with toasted goat cheese we ate it before we could take a picture ! Fish and chips for me and so not greasy and the tarter sauce tasted home made ! Oh what a beautiful setting for this restaurant just minutes down the road from the iconic Peggy's Cove. When walking in the door you are greeted with fresh baked goods that tempt the taste buds making you excited for what is to come. We ordered from the small brunch menu...bacon, eggs, a biscuit with rhubarb compote and potato chips. Oh the flaky biscuits with the rhubarb compote and a slice of bacon was delicious. We also ordered some desserts because they were just so tempting...chocolate pate with caramel sea salt and a salted caramel and chocolate biscuit pudding. We thought they both sounded individually delicious and were excited to try the two together! The Salted Caramel and chocolate biscuit pudding was my favourite thing we ordered! I've been on a search for the world's best lobster roll for the last few years. (263 different establishments all over North America so far) Rhubarb Restaurant was #264. All I can say is WOW. Great service, friendly staff and a lobster roll that made its way into my top 3!!! The seafood chowder was also exceptional with generous portions of lobster claw in it. I was at the Rhubarb last evening and I ordered the bowl of chowder as did my 2 friends but I was so disappointed that we were going to ask the waiter to take it back and we were going to order something else.It wasn't because of the taste but because of the quantity, the last time we ordered chowder there it was 3 times the size for the same price actually 1 dollar more.Here is a tip ,if you could just add the sauce or liquid and keep the same amount ingredients and make it the same size as before you changed it.i was so disappointed and we go there quite often.Also when I paid the bill I did tell that person about it and she replied as said to me you should of bought 2 bowls and I taught that was ery rude of her. read more

This is a charming, bright, clean and inviting stop for breakfast or lunch. We had the fried haddock, (which was battered in a rice-flour batter), hand-cut fries, and summer salad. Didn't care much for abundance of raw onion in the salad, but everything else was very good. The fish was great. Service was stellar - friendly, helpful, attentive. Eat here. Yes, do it, you won't regret it. We stopped for lunch and had the seafood chowder and fish and chips. Both were about the best or as good as any we've ever had. And both were gluten free, to boot. The chowder was loaded with lobster, mussels, white fish and veggies. And huge chunks of lobster, not just a few shreds. I had to cut them up. The creamy broth was not thickened with flour. The fish and chips was haddock that must have been alive just a few hours ago, it seemed. Fries were crispy and hot. For dessert, and I rarely get dessert, unless I have reason to believe it will be memorable, was a chocolate pate, with a creamy top layer, a thick layer of the chocolate pate, over a thin layer of caramel with sea salt. It was memorable. The wait staff was as attentive, knowledgeable about the menu, and also attractive. You couldn't ask for more, unless you visit again. We will be back, so I guess we will ask for more. Did I mention the ocean view? I just did. So quit looking through Yelp and get your butt into one of these seats. read more

The online menu makes this look almost like a typical roadside diner - Burgers, pizza, fish and chips, chowder. And they have all those things. They also have some less likely dishes like Saffron Risotto Stuffed Chicken. It doesn't seem to matter what you order, though. Our group of four had 7 dishes, including appetizers, and every one of them was incredibly tasty and well-prepared. Their chef really knows how to please. It's also well-decorated with local art. What a fantastic place. It is associated with a spa and we missed the name on the building the first time we drove by, but once we found it we were delighted. Charming space with original artwork. I got the Saturday Night Burger or whatever it's called, and it was delicious. Not too heavy like most other burgers, and the portion wasn't so big that you can't eat all of it and then end up feeling guilty. Well. Seafood in a city by the sea is almost always a sure bet. I actually had to drive the 50min up to peggys cove, outside of Halifax to eat a somewhat good seafood meal. Chowder is generous in seafood but the soup is oily and blend. Fish and Chips is crispy and well seasoned. We've been here several times and it's always fantastic but today was the first time we had brunch. My Cinnamon French Toast on home made bread was excellent and my husband thoroughly enjoyed his Harbour Omelet with spinach, bacon and Swiss cheese.
