Delightful little cafe and sandwich shop. We had the lobster sandwiches and the halibut chowder.

The menu here is eclectic, mostly featuring oysters and other seafood prepared in the "raw bar"…read morestyle. In addition to oysters there is also crab and lobster. At places like this it's customary to offer several kinds of oysters identified by place of origin but I've never seen that before for lobster, of which they had four, from Cape Breton, PEI, and New Brunswick. In addition to the raw bar there are a few hot items, but don't expect the typical fish&chips or boiled lobster. It was crowded and too sunny on the outside deck so we elected to sit inside at the bar, which was surprisingly empty when we arrived. Behind the bar was a bustle of activity, the three bartenders busy shucking oysters and arranging plates of crab legs and lobster. (Is a raw bar worker still called a bartender?) I ordered the tuna tostadas, the wife a Baja from the tacos section, and we shared a Coctel De Camerones. Between the two small plates and the shared shrimp cocktail it was easily enough for lunch. The three tostadas were tuna, cilantro, jalapeno, pickled onion, green onions, and avocado crema served open-faced on the crispy corn tortillas. The taco was battered haddock, tequila-cilantro crema, chili mayo, cabbage, and pickled onion. Both excellent. The shrimp cocktail was enormous, and not what we expected - but in a good way. More like a thick gazpacho than the typical style. The shrimp were mixed into the thick, tomato-based sauce, sweet, spicy, and tangy, made with ketchup, Tabasco, Worcestershire, onions, and garlic. Topped with avocado and lime wedges, and served with saltine crackers. That's my only complaint: swap the saltines for a better cracker, or maybe tortilla chips. The unexpectedly tiny shrimp were not a flaw really; this way you can have a shrimp in every bite. I never did decide whether the fork or the spoon was the appropriate utensil. The cocktails were innovative, with curious names, many made with local liqueurs and intriguing ingredients (what, for example, is "grilled corn syrup", used in the "Dad Jokes" - and what the reason for its name?) My Pourly Fraised was Signal Hill whiskey from Newfoundland, Aperol, grapefruit, strawberry (thus "Fraised") and hibiscus syrups, and lemon was so refreshing, though perhaps not as strong at it should have been. A great meal, and for a very reasonable price. Lobster was "market price" but I didn't inquire. And the Seafood Tower at $140 or the Caviar & Pringles at $100 are available for those who want to splurge. Fortunately I'm not a fan of either so I wasn't tempted.

The oysters were good and varied; would recommend the Puffin Rock oyster as it's the biggest and one of the tastiest. The mezcal cocktail was fantastic.

One of the Best Burgers I've Ever Had - A Must-Visit in Lunenburg!…read more Lunenburg is packed with amazing food options, but we're so glad we chose to eat at The Grand Banker--it did not disappoint. My wife and I started with the sweet potato fries, and they were fantastic--crispy, flavourful, and taken to the next level with that curry mayo. She ordered the Lobster Roll and absolutely loved it--super fresh, packed with flavour, and exactly what you'd hope for this close to the ocean. I went all in on the Lunenburger, and let me tell you--it's easily one of the best burgers I've ever had, if not the best. It was absolutely loaded: a juicy, flavour-packed beef patty, crispy bacon, sweet and flaky lobster, fresh arugula, tasty aioli, and to top it all off--a bacon-wrapped scallop that was just the cherry on top. Every bite was next-level. No wonder this place has won awards. From fresh seafood to creative pub fare, The Grand Banker delivers big on both quality and flavour. Highly recommend, especially for fellow burger lovers--you need to try the Lunenburger!

After snapping some pictures, we noticed The Grand Banker quiet after the dinner rush. We stepped inside, and I ordered the baked potato soup--creamy, hearty, and full of comfort. Then came the Cajun sausage linguine with chicken--spicy, rich, and downright soul-warming. In that quiet moment, with the sun setting, the meal wasn't just dinner; it was the perfect close to a maritime memory.

One of the worst dining experiences I've had in years. I…read moredon't enjoy writing negative reviews, but this was unacceptable. We visited The Old Fish Factory to celebrate my nephew's 5th birthday -- a group of three adults and two small children. The restaurant was more than half empty when we arrived, yet we stood at the front for ten minutes without being acknowledged. Several staff walked by, made eye contact, and kept walking. When someone finally seated us, the table was still dirty. She apologized and offered to clean it -- I ended up wiping it myself because it was still covered in crumbs after she half heartedly wiped it down. Service continued to deteriorate from there. It took another 10 minutes to take our drink and food order. We ordered two smash burgers, a wrap, two kids' meals, and a hummus appetizer. We asked for the kids' meals to come out with the appetizer, which seemed like a straightforward request. Unfortunately, we never saw our server again. Our drinks sat visibly on the bar for over 20 minutes. We tried flagging someone down -- we were brushed off with, "I'll see if I can find her." Eventually, someone else brought the kids' meals and appetizer. We asked again about our drinks, which were still untouched at the bar. Another person -- not our server -- finally grabbed them. No one came to check in. After we finished the appetizers, we waited. And waited. The kids, now long finished, grew restless. Forty-five minutes went by without a word. Nearly 90 minutes after ordering, our mains finally arrived. The wrap was cold inside. The burgers were burnt and tasted pre-frozen. The $9 "potato salad" was boiled potatoes with a drizzle of mayo -- truly. When I expressed -- calmly -- that the experience was unacceptable, the response was silence. No apology, no adjustment to the bill, no effort to make it right. Instead, they simply handed me the machine and said, "You just have to tap," implying they weren't expecting a tip -- not because they took accountability, but because they knew they hadn't earned one. I rarely leave reviews like this, and I'm not a picky diner. But this place was disorganized, indifferent, and dismissive from start to finish. We left disappointed, $150 poorer, and without so much as a simple "sorry." Lunenburg is full of wonderful places to eat -- this just isn't one of them.
