This is a very cute vineyard, a little off the beaten path. The parking is a little tight but ample with room for lots of cars. The tasting room is a little small comparative to other vineyards in the area, but the vintage cash register gives it a classic feel. I had no problem with service, the barista was very tolerant as I tried to decide which wine to by as gifts. There is something about the design of the bottles which speaks to me - it's the same design with different colors, very Andy Warhol - and it definitely pushed the rating up an extra star.

A winery in my own backyard - awesome! This is a cute, tiny 3 table and a small bar tasting room. $5 for tastings and you get to keep the glass and the pours are generous. 2009 and 2010 grapes yielding 5 different bottles ranging in price from $14.99 - $18.99. These include a Seyval Blanc, St. Croix, Frontenac, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. The white was dry with hints of grapefruit which I enjoyed. You can also buy by the glass for $6.00. Mr. Savino designed the label which has a rooster on it which brings luck. Very friendly and welcoming staff and glad we can support local business. They are expanding their tasting room and will add cheese plates. Open through December it is worth checking out.

Second stop on the Southern leg of the CT Wine Trail. The wine itself and the location in itself was not very memorable. It's a small bar, empty on the day we went other than some loud drunk girls drinking at the bar. Had it been packed they may not have seemed quite as loud. There were 2 women working/hosting. One large "solid" woman seemingly of Eatsren European descent, with personality of a fed up highschool bus driver. We requested the wine tasting and the antipasto plate. She poured us each a glass of wine, placed a saran wrapped cheese and salami plate and disappeared. umm ok..wow. When she left we kind of laughed at her abrubtness and shock of the ridiculous antipasto plate. It wasn't until the second lady, very polite and friendly, informed us that our antipasto plate would be out shortly and she completed the tasting for us. She was informative, sweet and kind and then the antipasto plate come out. now THIS was an antipasto plate. Fantastic! This is what brought them from a 2 to a 3. You won't come here for the view or the atmosphere but if you're looking to get stamps for your passsport.. definitely stop in for a tasting and the antipasto plate!

This is a small vineyard, but worth the trip. Like many other vineyards, the setting is stunning and a nice way to relax and unwind. We did the tasting and were pleased with all of the wines. The crackers and cheese in between each tasting were an added bonus. I wish the tasting had one additional red, or included the rose, but overall the tastings were good. After the tasting, I enjoyed a full glass of rose while we sat outside on a warm November afternoon. We made it here just before the end of the season this year, but we intend to be back again when they re-open in 2018.

This winery is smaller than others on the trail and doesn't have a wide selection of wines. Of the wines we tasted none stuck out or made us woo over their flavor. We would not go back unless the menu expands or there is some form of entertainment added to draw us in.

I really liked this place. It's small but nicely appointed. The tasting was relaxed. They even had bar stools. Only one white wine but the Reds were light and not overly dry. They had a fabulous antipasto and gave you cheese crackers and salami with your tasting. The only down side was that bottles could not be purchased and opened on the premises. Not really a big deal. I'll be back.

Keep in mind that there is a "Jones Family Farm Pumpkinseed Hill" at 120 Beardsley Rd., and then the "Jones Valley Farm/Jones Winery" at 606 Walnut Tree Rd. My GPS accidentally took me to the Pumpkinseed Farm at first, but it wasn't a big deal because the winery is just a few minutes away. Once I was in the right place, a staff member greeted me and gave me the wine/food menu. They have a lot of different areas to sit, including a patio with tables/umbrellas (where they had live music playing), a pavilion with tables underneath, an upper patio that was covered by a pergola with leaves/vines on top, and an inside bar area with seating. The inside bar area has garage doors that were open, leading out to the upper patio. Even though it was a hot day, I sat under the pergola and it was surprisingly cool underneath! After sitting down, a staff member quickly came over and took my drink/food order. I tried a glass of the Sunshine White, which was delicious! It was on the sweeter side though. Keep in mind that they only sell wine by the glass on the menu, but they do have a store where you can buy bottles to go. I also ordered the Simply Cheese Plate, which came with sharp cheddar cheese, Jones Berry Chutney, and sea salt crackers. This was excellent! They also do have a "Light Fare" menu with things like a hummus plate, cheesecake, popcorn, etc. The service was fast and the staff were friendly. They had a "Bouquet Bar" set up where you could buy fresh cut flowers, as well as a small gift shop. Overall a very cool winery in Shelton, I would definitely recommend!

In addition, since the large box can fit so much, be prepared to bake with your fruit or feed many hungry guests!

In a display of restaurant solidarity , they recommended that we try Vinas Wine & Tapas. As it turned out, we have a NEW favorite in New Haven! We arrived a bit early and were cheerfully greeted by Mike G, our server. The atmosphere was welcoming and relatively quiet, since their musical offering does not start as early as our 5:00-7:00 PM time slot on a Tuesday. We had asked for the waiter Christian because he had been mentioned in several of the Yelp reviews, but Mike proved that the service compliments should go to everyone. First, the tapas: We enjoyed all five of the tapas we chose. The "Calamares" were lightly battered and crispy. The Vinas salad was fresh, with tomatoes, cheese, corn, and croutons. The pork belly was delicious and more meaty than expected . The oyster mushrooms were presented with onion crisps. The baked birria empanada was stuffed with brisket style beef. Each of these "courses" was a unique delight to the palate, and for me and my partner, it was completely satisfying. In keeping with the spirit of a "wine bar," Vinas offered a flight of 4 wines in 3 ounce glasses, and after hearing about our food choices and wine preferences, Mike chose the wines for us, giving us a chance to taste some less familiar offerings. We had the Felino Malbec 2024 (Argentina), which became our favorite for its full-bodied and deep flavor. Our second wine was a unique Don Abel (private label) from Wallingford CT, made by one of the relatives of the owner, specially for Vinas. This one reminded us of the local wines one might receive in a B&B in the Loire Valley in France. The final two wines were both from Chile: Reserva Carmenere 2023 and Cabernet Sauvignon Marques de Casa Concha 2022. Both were excellent wines. It was great fun to have Mike choose the wines for us, and we really enjoyed the variety that the flight offerings gave to us. Of course, we had to try a dessert, and Mike recommended the Toffee Cake. We had heard that the owner claimed that some people cried with joy after eating it. Although we restrained ourselves, we had to agree that this was an extraordinary conclusion to a fabulous meal. Overall, this was a great experience for us, and we heartily recommend Vinas Wine Bar and Tapas for a relaxing and welcoming dinner. Some reviews I had read suggested that the portions were too small for the price. I have to disagree. My partner and I love food, and this was plenty. And the price was reasonable. Including tip and tax, we spent about $75 each.

Pulling up was like driving into someone else's backyard at first. But don't let that sway you, this is a marvelous gem of a winery. Their Red Table wine is like a milder Cab with a clean finish, enough to eat with a meal or sipping. I'm not into white but the Gertrude wasn't sweet at all, in fact all of their wines are quite dry, even their Rose. We've been many CT wineries, with Hopkins and Stonington Vineyards being the best, the wine quality approaches what these more established places deliver. The venue is intimate, it's small, ie, 50-60 people would fill up most of the seating in the barn/deck, but there an outside seating area adjacent that peeps walk past and aren't aware of. There were maybe 25 people there and it was fine. Parking could be tight if busy, but I suspect very few people know of this place. Owners were very nice, and love talking about their wines. Jim especially. Note no food, other than a cheese box which was good, but you can bring your own... I'd give it 5 stars but felt the flight serving pour was a bit small. Def on our list to visit again.
