I work a couple miles away from here and feel pretty privileged about it. Before I worked there, Oxford seemed a long way to go to try out yet another CT brewery (they weren't distributed back then, so you had to go there or be lucky enough to find it on tap somewhere) and they sounded very niche and weird. And they kinda are in the best way possible. Their selection of beers is pretty amazing in that you won't find 6 different IPAs, 2 fruity sours and a lager. Here you'll find Asian style lager, black lager, 3 different pils, 4 experimental sours, a traditional Berliner Weiss, an English Bitter, and that's just their own brews. They're also an importer and offer bottles from a variety of European and Asian brewers. Walking in transports you to a European beer hall with high ceilings and long wooden tables. There's also a nice deck out back to enjoy nature and a little game room overlooking the brewery floor. I've never tried the food so no comment there. I do intend to spend a lunch hour there one day when I have an easy afternoon ahead of me. The staff there is very friendly and super knowledgeable about the product. Great spot! read more

On Saturday, 7/5/2025 after a hike in Oxford, we needed to cool off so decided to check out OEC Brewing. Are we glad we did! It's a super cute brewery with games, inside and outdoor seating, an excellent wine list, great beers with beers to go from around the globe, matched with excellent service. We didn't try any of the food offerings which is mostly pizza and pretzels, but we really enjoyed our time. The bartender seemed to know everyone and was so helpful and friendly to us. The wine glasses are very nice. Go with complete confidence. read more

Solid brewery hidden in the hills of Oxford CT. Well worth the trip. You can bring your own food. They are known for their sours, but have expanded to the lagers and ipas which are all excellent. Friendly and knowledgeable staff to help you decide, Good brewery vibe!! read more

Recently got to try OEC Brewing. OEC is an abbreviation for Ordinem Ecentrici Coctores. That is quite a mouthful and I can see why the abbreviation is often reverted to by other customers and possibly staff alike. Steve and I had one particular beer from this brewery and we enjoyed it pretty well. It was their Maibock beer and it was very pleasing to us. It kind of brought in some Old World flavors with it's rustic, grainy and malty flavors which often brought in a nice but subtle sweetness to the flavor bouquet as well. Definitely a crushable type of beer so you could easily have more than one. It was very refreshing and I'd love to investigate more of their beer options as I do like the Old World type beers as they are a nice change of pace from so many beers in the beer industry that take on cookie cutter characteristics. read more

I visited OEC Brewing to pick up some cookies from the Cookie Maven of West Hartford. I had been introduced to Rachel's cookies during a Yelp holiday celebration that had been hosted by another brewing company, and jumped at opportunity to try out some I had missed during OEC's special holiday market event. I understand that OEC specializes in sour and generally unusual beers. (They do identity themselves as being eccentric!) The location is a strange combination of remote and industrial, with two large rooms to gather -- one quiet with games, and another loud with heavy metal music blasting. Parking is limited, requiring street parking the day I visited. Conventional beer food is available -- pizza, pretzels, chips -- but the company invites folks to bring their own, which is generous. Flyers posted on the main tap room door brought to mind that OEC periodically hosts a variety of events. I booked a ticket to tour their coffee fermenting process, as well as try their coffee... rumored to be good. From what I've read, OEC strives to surface fruity aspects of coffee. One of the brewers, Tony Pellino, gave a one hour long small group tour of the coffee fermentation, roasting, and brewing process. As anticipated, tremendous amount of curiosity, detail, and creativity contributes to the OEC line of products. Passion for innovation is the primary driver, largely led by founder, Matthias Neidhart, as an offshoot of his beer distribution company, B. United International (Matthias was referenced several times). The tour was capped by a cup of their unique coffee. Fellow tourists appeared very familiar with coffee brewing process, and OEC products, reinforcing the notion that this site draws in customers who appreciate the founder's passion. Several purchased small bags of rarely available coffee (and pricey at around $30), which had been thoughtfully reserved for this group. Before I left I tried the white ale with strawberry syrup after seeing someone who appeared to be a regular customer walk off with one from that bar. Not something I would normally have tried, but it enticed and did not disappoint. It also brought to mind that conventional beer types, such as white ale, are in fact available. A large, warm pretzel and roasted peanuts were purchased to accompany. Will be back ... this is a special place to meet friends. read more

Holy hell, this might be Connecticut's most unique and diverse brewery. What Tree House is to Massachusetts and IPA's, "The Order of the Eccentric Brewers" is to Connecticut and beer's time-honored Germanic roots. As you walk in past the equipment and the coolships, you'll instantly see shelves full of imported beer, sake, and mead harkening you back across centuries and an ocean, to where and when modern alcohol began to turn into what we all know and love today. You'll have some product to peruse after you take a left turn and reach the bar. The menu advertises classic lagers with or without modern twists, but OEC is unafraid to show off sour and tart beers, which is fortunate because they excel at those styles. The only beers they offer are great beers and beers that other people would tell you are great. I've been here so many times that I really can't call out anything specific. The menu seems to have changed every time I come in, and nothing I've picked has let me down. From lagers to sours, and adjuncts including dry hops, fruit, spices, wood particles from the barrel aging, or none at all to let whatever wild yeasts floated by that day really shine through -- all it does is ensure that I can't review this place very well. It needs to be tasted to be believed. They have wooden tables, metal chairs, and you'll enjoy your drinks surrounded my foreign alcohol for sale, brewery equipment, and a bag or two of grain. There's an outdoor space, and a back room with pool tables and chairs offering a more "modern" brewery experience. I see there's also pizza somewhere, but with them being somewhat close to home, I've always come in on a full stomach. Enough rambling. You can't really put this place into words. Get off Exit 16. Let the laypeople get a NEIPA across town at Black Hog; you're going to be fancy today. Chat up the beertenders who seem to know more about beer than you ever will, despite your impressive number of unique check-ins on Untappd. Take home a bottle of Danish mead, and an Italian pink peppercorn ale that will pair so beautifully with the pretty-good attempt at homemade steak au poivre you'll call dinner. Lie awake, full of steak, and think about today's beers. Welcome to the Order. read more

The beer scene in this beautiful state is alive and thriving, and even though there are many amazing breweries, there are plenty of really good ones. OEC would be one of these cases. The brewery is far off in a space dedicated to offices but towards the back where the woods meet civilization. There is a nice walking area and lots of trees, this brewery is tucked away in a very green area. Actually, the perfect scenario would be walking around, going for a mini hike, and then sipping on these beers. The beers here are pretty good, they have a large list plus guess taps and, I can't remember well, but I think there is also wine. They also have some food items, although very basic stuff like cold cuts, popcorn, etc. read more

Sometime ago, I came across an article from Food and Wine Magazine called "19 Craft Breweries Worth Going Out of Your Way For". I clicked on the link to see if there was a brewery within driving distance. That's when I first learned about OEC in Oxford. I asked some friends who are knowledgeable about New England craft beer if they had been to OEC. Most people hadn't heard of it. A person or two knew it by reputation, but hadn't been because they don't like OEC's specialty - sours. One person had been to OEC. He had a strange and enthusiastic tale about sours, baked goods, beer importing and experimental coffee. I stored this info away to ferment. By March 2021, I had cabin fever and was ready for a short drive and a solo socially-distanced adventure. I arrived at OEC. I felt like I was at the Willy Wonka beer compound. There were multiple buildings (including one that looked octagonal), what looked like fenced-off vineyard grape trees, beer nerds, nearby walking trails, and a crazy number of canned and/or bottled European beers that I had no frame of reference for. They were literally, foreign to me. #dadjoke Indeed, OEC was selling coffee beans that they roasted in connection with a "complex fermentation and aging method" described as the "next frontier" of "outrageous coffee". I ordered a few small cups of beer to sample. I didn't try to remember the names, but they included their house Pilsner, an ale, and some recommended sours. I asked the knowledgeable and outstandingly friendly OEC expert about their famous sourdough bread. I was told that they didn't have any at the moment, but that I could get a Zuppardi's pizza. "You mean the famous Zuppardi's Apizza in West Haven?" Yeah, that one. I didn't ask how a beer maker in Oxford had Zuppardi's pizza, but I did order a small. It was good. Now is the time I have to admit that I respect sours, but they are not really my thing. I'm more of a New England IPA guy that loves a cool new experience. I don't normally order pilsners either, but this one was really good. The sours were in fact sour and fruity in a complex way, but they didn't convert me. I enjoyed sitting outside on the large deck trying them, and I think fans of sours would be in beer heaven. Alchemists. That word comes to mind for the OEC creative team. Although I did not love the sours, I feel unqualified to pass judgment on them, and alchemists on the next frontier of outrageous coffee always get 5 Stars in my book. It's kind of my slogan. If this information sounds compelling, pick a small group of companions and a nice day to sit outside and drive to OEC. To be safe, maybe make the person you like least get there early to grab a table. read more

Really not sure of the low reviews that some have posted...ive been to many breweries all over the east coast / west coast and this is my fav. Great service, Tony and Chloe that work the bar are a breath of fresh air. They make amazing cocktails, highly knowledgable, and make for great conversations. There are regulars like myself now that are always here, and dog friendly. The beers they brew are top notch quality. Their sours as well as cocktails are simply the best i have had. They are also well stocked on imported alcohol being that they are a distributor as well. Plus they play great music, metalStop into any trader joes in the New England metro and you will find their stuff...but you need to make it a point to come here and experience the true joy of fine local brewing and hospitality... read more

We were able to share a bunch of 4oz pours. The beers at this place are interesting and different because they are wild ales. While most beers were not our style, we definitely enjoyed the Nepenthes and Antioch and would definitely be back to try others. They also will start making bread again in May. The staff there was super friendly and even made sure to walk us through the beers and keep them in the order on the board so we can taste them in the right order. Arrive early so you can beat the crowd. Since it's so close to another brewery, it tends to fill up with those who don't want to wait. read more

If you don't like sour beers, we can't be friends anymore. If you do like sour beers, come join me here, and savor the flavor! OEC is the king of the castle when it comes to CT sours, and all in a relaxing, friendly atmosphere, and impeccable flavor palates. We were pretty sure (and by we, I mean me) that we were lost on our way here. The GPS took us the long way through many residential areas, lush greenery, and copious forests. Just when we thought all hope was lost, we saw the makings of an industrial complex and gained excitement for the sour that beckoned. OEC is at the very end on the left of a long road, and is a classy establishment, with new designs, and clean lines. I was surprised at hw many people were there, given its selective nature, and how many people there brought their kids (at a brewery!? bad form). We sat in the sun on the wraparound patio and gazed excitedly at our taster. The first was the Exilis, which is a Berliner Weisse and probably the most one note sour of the bunch. They accompany this with a house made raspberry syrup to cut with some sweetness for those who can't handle it, but I thought it was quite good. The second was a Gose with salty notes, aged in tequila, gin, and pinot noir barrel. Third was the Rye Saison which was very sage--forward and savory, but not my favorite. The best in my opinion was #4, the Tempus Blend 4, a delightful lambic/tempus/saison blend aged in wine barrels and is guaranteed to make your eyes light up and immediately buy a growler. The fifth was probably the best Stout I've ever had, aged in Syrah wine barrels from the Napa valley, and had the classic coffee/chocolate/earthiness to it, but also creamy and sour. My husband's favorite was the last in the sampler, the Phantasma #2, a multidimensial porter barreled in pinot/sherry/whiskey/zin casks, and absolutely the most full-flavored beer on tap. This had exceptional midpalate sweetness, front palate tang, and back palate bitterness, that all faded into a creamy apple/tanic zing that was amazing. After our tastings, we purchased some of their library beers that they have brought in from all over the world (not necessarily sours tho), and we tried a Japanese beer that was malty and reminiscent of breakfast cereal and prunes. Hmm. We couldn't possibly leave without growlers, so we chose a box full to savor until the next time we could make the drive out. Quite an amazing place with innovative and exciting brews, a dream come true for sour lovers, and an adventure for beer enthusiasts. read more

The place was inviting. We enjoyed chatting with the owner and some of the patrons. The house dog welcomed us warmly. Very sweet. My husband had a 16 oz. Octoberfest, and I had a 4 oz. of a black larger which was delicious. I tasted the Octoberfest and liked that, too. We split a pretzel - very tasty. They were selling Danish meads, and I brought one home. There was even a patio, but we sat inside. My husband wants to go back. read more

I didn't like this brewery. I love sours and couldn't find any that I liked, none were fruit based either. Prices were sky high with a 12 oz pour coating you like 9-13 or more. No thanks! The lay out is OK. They had coffee on the menu but aren't serving coffee, bummer. There were app food options and some pizza on the menu. There were these annoying signs everywhere that rubbed me the wrong way of what to do and what not to do, I thought they were unnecessary and there were almost 8 of them. Other breweries don't have these signs and seem to survive. It's in the middle of no where, cool spot though. read more

This is a really awesome brewery if you're into sours - or like having a good time. There's a lot of different places for seating (side patio, in the front outside, in the back room). So for anyone nervous about social distancing with COVID, you're covered! I went Friday with my friend who is has celiacs (can't have gluten) so I was nervous she would be limited with what she could have... She wasn't.. They had sake, wine, mead, cider.. SOOO many options. As mentioned, they seem to be primarily sour-happy. For example, they had a sour porter (never heard of that!!!). They also had other interesting beers like one aged in absinthe barrels with sake in it. How rad is that?? Also, Tony, who took our orders, is honestly such a peach. He's so nice and friendly and literally a pleasure to be around. Tony is so awesome and made our visit way more enjoyable! read more

Very interesting brewery. We found the set up confusing. We parked at the end of a street. The brewery is not clearly marked. People were standing outside-lots of empty beer bottles on the wall. It's more of a campus-like area. We had to ask some patrons where the actual brewery was. So, the tap room itself is fine. Employees were friendly & helpful. Neither my sister or I were impressed with the beer. Will most likely not return. read more

I love love love this place. The beers are some of the best I've ever had! We went for our first bottle release there. It was organized and fast. The staff was really great! Then we went in for flights and a bite to eat. The flight had a list that was in order of how the beer was poured. They were so good. We ordered cheese and landjaeger that was incredible. It came with a roll that was also delicious. The overall experience there was well beyond expectations. Will go back again! read more

I thought I had been to the best breweries around before, but after today I think this one is by far above them all. Tony helped my friend and I. He was extremely knowledgeable about all the beers (even the ones that weren't brewed there). The atmosphere was incredible, seating outside only due to covid-19 but nonetheless it was as if that didn't matter. Beers are very unique and flavorful. They had a beer or wine or beverage for everyone. 100/10. Would recommend to anyone who loves or even dislikes beer. read more

My new favorite CT brewery .. if you like funky and sour beers, this place is heaven. When we were in we had the Exilis Berliner Weisse with a shot of fresh raspberry syrup .. this beer was heavenly. The Experimentalis with Raspberries was also nice. A few sours and saisons rounded out the tasting flight and all were top notch beers. I have been to about 100 breweries, pretty much every one in CT now, and OEC is one of my favorites nationwide. The place is beautiful and has a friendly, clean ambience. The guys behind the bar was super cool and could talk about their beers forever in a way even a non beer geek would appreciated. Tables outside will be nice to enjoy beers when its cool enough. The grounds don't look huge but they have some gardens where they will be growing a lot of the ingredients they will be using. OEC is part of B. United, one of the best beer importers in the country. In the fridges at OEC there are some super-rare and ever changing bottles from europe and i am pretty sure this is the only place in the USA you can get them. Sample flight ended up costing about $15 .. it was worth it, decent size pours, great beers, nice place. Got a few growlers to go and this is definitely a place I will be back. read more

Had recently planned a family brewery day for Black Hog which ended up having a big event going on so we ended up here instead. Interesting spot tucked way back into an industrial park. The beer was a bit unique and while I do like their types I know not everyone does. That being said I think everyone found something they like. We'd brought some food with us so we didn't try any of theirs but they were cool with outside food being brought in so that was almost bonus points. read more

Four stars????? Whaaat I don't where all these people has been before, but this is one of the best, more authentic and pretty brewery I ever been. Yes I said pretty cause you cannot beat the view around the building and the awesome decor of the interior. That along the cool people that works there brewing one of the most amazing beer I ever had, and trust me I had a lot. I was visiting New Haven and I knew I have to take the drive to OEC(1:20 min). However, I had my doubts about it since they only open Saturdays, so what I contacted the guys early on the weekend and asked they if I could swing by to buy some bottles of their great elixir. They responded within hours saying that they were close that day. However, since they were going to be at the brewery all day making magic happen, they didn't have a problem with me to stopping by and pick up some goods. So after a long drive I made it to the mythical OEC! I was welcomed by one of their brewers and pretty much after crossing a few words they told me to make myself comfortable. I mingled around, chatted with the guys and bought each one of their bottles they had available and one growler of Exilis. Im glad I visited this place and took the drive, everything was worth it and if you want to go for an adventure this is your place. Awesome people, great beer and beautiful location. First outstanding service and great bartenders. Knowledgeable, friendly, courteous and personable. All traits that a lot of places seem to be lacking. This is a sour beer Mecca so plan accordingly. There is also wine and mead available and a surprising twist sake. There are some food choices available none fantastic but good fare for conversation. First let me say, I'm not as big a beer geek as some people I know but I like good beer and I like trying new things. Sour beers are still pretty new to me and to most people but I gotta say, I think sour is the new hoppy and if I'm right OEC is way ahead of the curve! About OEC itself, they are a specialty craft brewer with a focus on European saison and sour style beers. Also, this is really more of a brewery with a few afternoon tastings in their tasting room not really a brew pub or bar. When I was there they were hosting a joint event with a European craft brewer so I got to try both imported beers from the guest and the OEC beers brewed locally. All were fantastic but I suggest not inviting your Bud drinking brother-in-law or Dad who thinks Sam Adams is the beginning and end of "craft" beer. You can get tasting samplers (flights) or beers by the glass when they are open (seemed like just Wednesday and Saturday but I am not sure) and they also have several sizes of growlers to take home. Definately worth the trip if you want to try some interesting, high quality local beer! read more

Went here for Festivus and I cannot rave enough. Even amidst the most awful of December New England rain, we were in awe of the beautiful brewery and all the day had to offer. This review is more of the event and we will definitely have to come to taste at the brewery again. The presumed owners are european and adorable. They turned out quite a holiday spread in the main floor as well as the cellar of the brewery. Stations of the world were set up with OEC sours as well as other brewer aged beers, rare beers, cookies, and chocolates to be enjoyed via ticket system. We sampled many beers as we listened to Christmas music among the barrel aging beer systems of the cellar. The highlight of the festivus was a baladin xyauyu soaked panettone and the ample serving of the same beer, plucked from a sticky barrel with a wine thief by a most gracious presumed owner gentleman. I was extremely thrilled to take home one of these panettone. I hope it makes it to Christmas dinner. read more

OEC serves up eccentric, high-brow, cerebral and complex sour/wild ales that pack a punch of flavor so tantalizing I was officially a sour beer convert after my first sip. The staff is very knowledgable and tailors answers to questions well for new and experienced customers. They provide binders of information on their brewing process behind each beer and curate a fantastic guest list of beers in addition to their own. If you don't have a developed palette, if you generally like one note, traditional beers, then stick to black hog or some other excuse of a brewery that under achieves on execution and generally appeals to the masses' undiscerning palettes. The environment is beautiful inside and out. Very chill. They serve pretzels or chips for those that need a snack. Food trucks occasionally park outside as well. They're ok with you bringing outside food in. This is the ultimate destination brewery adventure in CT. read more

Located at the end of a random, residential street in the small town of Oxford is OEC, a highly experimental brewery that likes to push the envelop on traditional wild styles but often introducing creative twists to their methods and processes. How experimental? Well they've brewed and aged beers in Greek amphoraes which is rather unique. They also grow their own fruits and herbs that they use in their beers which is neat and they not only brew but also blend beers which is neat. The place is really neat inside and the staff is very friendly. The place is cozy and we enjoyed our time spent there. They had delicious pretzels available as well as beer flights and they even had cocktails that they made using meads and ciders. Oh and did I mention that they also carry guest bottles? European and Japanese beers, as well as ciders were also available for on-site consumption should their beers not be your thing. Overall the place is great and I definitely look forward to returning. That being said, it's a bit on the pricey side so just keep that in mind. read more

The service and offerings at OEC are worth the adventurous drive to its hallowed door. I love sour beer, that's where my taste buds feel happiest and OEC hooked it up. I won't go into describing their KILLER beers because there are other places to talk beer but I love OEC as a destination. As is often the case for indie breweries, this one is a little hard to get to but I'd much rather make the trek here than say... Treehouse. Once you arrive, it's rather cozy and peaceful and you can easily see yourself settling in for a while. I've been to many breweries, but none as pretentious as this one. It's tucked in back of an industrial area and has quite a nice tasting room. But that's where my positivity ends. The menu was very difficult to figure out, while the sour beers were pricey to simply taste ($3-4) per taste. There was one person in front of my group and I waited over ten minutes for someone to acknowledge my existence, despite the fact one worker was washing glasses across from us. Once they realized I was waiting, they explained their selections and told us about guest beers for those of us who don't like sours (most of us didn't). After much deliberation, finally I ordered 5 of one of their guest beers for my party and figured we hang out and enjoy them. Well it turned out they didn't have enough of that left for all of us. Basically at that point we'd been there 20 Minutes and no one had a beer so we just left. If you love sour beers and are ready to pay to try them, possibly visit here before your visit to the Black Hog (which has a huge selection and is not pricey at all). read more

If you are a sour beer fan, OEC is a nice stop when you are in the middle of CT. The tasting room is very nice, with a very relaxed atmosphere and board games available as you take your time and work your way down the draft list. OECs beers may not be the top caliber sours, but they are pretty damn close. I would have to try the Experimentalis line of beers to see the hype of their fruited sours. We ended up spliting a flight between the two of us, which gave us 6 generous pours. Our favorites surprisingly ended up towards the darker end of the spectrum (Brunneis, Imperium, and Salsus). In addition, they have tons of bottled offerings for you to take home with you. Definitely visit OEC, you will not be disappointed. read more

Alert! Overpriced, $20 for a beer flight! Unless you like beer that's sour only (tastes like cheap wine) then move on to other real breweries (a.k.a. Black Hog). Also, they whined about a poor review that was written on the Untapped application which was the most ridiculous display of unprofessionalism that I've encounter in the brewing industry. For this reason, don't support this brewery... Advice to OEC: please be clear about your description of your breweries intentions in descriptions and staff explanations. To their credit, the building itself is very nice. Just be nice to your patrons because you never know when they'll want to support you when you least expect it. read more

And we have another loser of a brewery. As someone who likes to travel to breweries and bring back growlers let me say. I can classify this place's beers into 2 kinds: 1) Their good beers that they only sell in bottles and are over priced (note their best beers are merely good not great). 2) Their atrocious beers that they do growler fills with which are also over priced. This place isn't the worst, but given how expensive it is ($15 for a 750 ml bottle) this place is not worth going out of your way for. This is the kind of place you want to go to on a 72 degree day with your friends Grant, Franklin and Cleveland and stay awhile. read more
