This morning we decided to go out looking for our 1920's costumes at the thrift stores. Savers was our first stop. From first impression, this seemed like the place to be. There was a line outside waiting for the place to open at 10. Once in, you could see why people like this place. It is very large, well lit and organized. To a OCD person, this place is a dream. Everything sorted by style, size and color. We were able to find some pretty good things. You just have to be willing to search for things. I found 2 pairs of like new Naturalizer heels, 1 was 9.99 the other was 19.99. The only bad thing about Savers, is their prices. Compared to Goodwill, things are quite a bit more expensive. So if you want something dirt cheap that will be used once go to Goodwill. If you can't find something there or are willing to spend more go to Savers. read more

As I note in my profile, I'm the Duke of Thrift. Love love love to go to thrift stores. I used to only go to church thrift stores and Goodwill. However, I now also go to Savers on Mondays because they have 25% off of everything! Typically, Savers is quite a bit more expensive than Goodwill (by as much as double). However, because of how the store is set up, you wade through a lot less garbage and can more easily find things. When you consider the quality of the items plus the 25% off, you can definitely rationalize paying a bit more (who are we kidding??? I'm bitching about getting used stuff at 20% of the retail price instead of 10%??? geeeeeezzzzzz.....) High points, if you are looking for knick knacks and kitchenware, everything is easy to see without the clutter of Goodwill. Also, if you like swatches of material for sewing, they are easy to view and are very reasonably priced (the wife loves this section). They have these really convenient baskets with wheels on them (not a full cart, but not like lugging around a heavy basket). Plus, if you're a fan, you can get Popeyes chicken right nearby. I always want to get some, but we've sworn off of fast food. :( read more

I really enjoyed shopping here, this felt like an organized Goodwill to me. They had dressing rooms, shopping carts (roll away carts and regular shopping carts), and a variety of goods. My boyfriend and I ended up finding quite a bit. They have a men and women's section for everything ranging from tops, jackets, pants, and shirts in different sizes. I didn't get a chance to look at their other sections as I needed only more clothes. I managed to get a brand new jeans for about $10 along with other awesome goods. I think I spent a good $30 in total for the jeans, a short, and couple of blouses. I think it was a decent selection, but felt kind of bummed at the sizing as some were either too big or too small for me. I was also bummed by the clothing limit to use the dressing room since you're only allowed a small number , I think it was 4 or 5 which isn't that much so you have to keep on standing in line to try more clothes. I know you can also get tax deduction if you donate your clothes here. Overall, I would probably check this store out again. read more

I've been here twice, once in 2013 for a Halloween costume and once just recently! I didn't fully appreciate this place the last time I was here!!! This weekend, my friend J decided to take me thrift shopping because I've never been. Perfect - I needed work clothes. We hit up Goodwill first and scored a couple of things but were more excited about Savers anyway. We love this place! It's more organized than Goodwill, for sure!!! It's also more organized than some of the Ross's in town. I like it - it's not chaotic and things are incredibly well-labeled. Sizes are pretty true to what the sign on the rack says. :) I like that they split the women's knits and blouses although I was horrified when I realized I had already filled my basket and haven't even looked through the blouse rack yet. This place isn't as cheap as Goodwill but I feel that the organization and spaciousness is worth it - Goodwill gave off a musty feeling (if not smell) and Savers does present a little better - so the experience is more pleasant. I like that the condition of the clothing is more discerning. I scored 7 tops and a cardigan here plus a book and 2 teacups (these are going to be a craft project for wintermas gifts) for $55!!! That is just nuts! I'm so giddy! I can't wait to come back! read more

I really wanted to like this location of Savers, but as other Yelpers have mentioned what will keep me being a Goodwill customer is that they have much better customer service. Today, I was trying to claim my membership savers card. I picked the wrong register, with a clerk who offered more service to another person in another lane. The customer was trying to get opinions about what looked best and whether bags were real designer label. That's fine. It just needs to happen when you don't have several other people waiting in line. Then when it finally was my turn, I was told I needed to go to another register get my card. I waited and waited until another clerk could sign off it. I also wanted to buy a smaller item and didn't ask for the discount I had coming to me for being a new member because I wanted to at least get one stamp for my trouble of a trip. I was just 80 cents away from the $5 minimum but didn't realize it. The clerk rang me up, THEN mentioned it. When I tried to see if I could buy something else, I was told it was too late and it would count as another transaction. I tried to be polite but firm and said, "I wish you had told me that beforehand." The clerk just walked away. No response. No apology or anything. It makes me want to cut up my card and stick to thrift stores closer to my neighborhood with better customer service and that are better maintained. read more

I like how it's a thrift store but yet clean and bright. It was my first time there so I didn't know what to quite expect initially. After an hour and a half of browsing the racks and popping in and out of the fitting rooms, I left the store with several maternity essentials (jeans, shorts, tops and 2 dresses) -- all for a thrifty total of $43. Compared to Ross, I've spent more than that and for half the quantity I acquired. Not bad at all! I certainly wouldn't mind returning again just to browse for fun as I love me some bargains and random things. I love Savers, and will now be its loyal companion. P.S: It was total bliss to be able to wear jeans again...despite it being a maternity one!!! LOL read more

When i was in high school, I always looked for the unique and retro style clothes. However, taste has changed. Just recently, I purchased a white skirt for $5, old navy brown and white patterned skirt for $7, teal colored tank for $4, and a cashmere and silk gray top with sequence for $5. Back when..savers offered 1 colored priced tag for $0.99 and this would change daily. However, they did away with that and now only offer 50% off label days. I'm not sure what other discounts are offered. You will find really nice things in here, as much as you will see really old and worn clothing. If you are a treasure hunter, then you will search hard enough to find the diamond in the rough. read more

This is a VERY well organized thrift shop. And surprisingly, the clothing they stock is really current. Most thrift shops I have frequented in the past require lots of digging to get to the good stuff but Savers had row after row of nice, name brand stuff. This place also has a HUGE selection of just about everything you can think of. I took my time and went through most of the women's clothing racks. Next I browsed the book selection and was shocked to find a 2012 Frommer's Oahu, Waikiki and Honolulu travel guide. No, I am not a tourist but I am new here so the guide was a nice find that'll be useful! Most thrift shops have very outdated books. I saw many books that were published in 2011 and 2012 that are still on the shelves at Barnes & Noble for full price. I thought some of the prices were a bit high. To me, $8+ for a pair of used jeans (more for name brand) is a bit high. I paid an average of $2.99 per book (compared to $1 at most other thrift shops) which is also kind of high. Just about everything is quite a bit more expensive here in Hawaii compared to the mainland U.S. so that really should come as no surprise. Overall, if you do most of your shopping here rather than at the Ala Moana Mall (or any of the other myriad overpriced stores here on the island), you can save big, wear cute clothes, read current books and NO ONE will know the difference! read more

Four stars for the lack of cashiers on a weekend morning. I visited on a Saturday morning and it was busy enough that a line started to form. The solo cashier called for assistance but none came to her rescue. You know it is not a good sign when the person behind you starts to complain LOUDLY... Aside from the check out situation, I had such a wonderful time perusing through the store. This was my second visit and I found some awesome craft supplies!!! I will have to come back every so often to scope out their goods. I also found some awesome glittery ornaments that I was debating on purchasing elsewhere. It was such perfect timing that I found a brand new set here!!! Love the seasonal decor selection!!! read more

Ever since I was introduced to Savers by a friend a few months ago, I have been a huge fan. I never shopped anywhere else anymore. They have lots and lots of really great women clothes. But as I thought it'd be the same for men clothes and tried to find something decent for my bf and turned out men clothes at Savers is junk and a lot of them look not just second but third/forth hands. I love that they have 25% off on every Monday but I normally would shop on special holidays and such as Savers will have 50% off on those days. Shopping at a thrift store only on 50% off special sales day, YES I am that cheap hahaha :D read more

Excellent experience with excellent customer service, they got me what I need, and more than I asked for, by going out of your way to go over to another store and get the product that I needed in time for when I needed it. The prices are very reasonable and they have a large variety of items to select from. I also like how well organized they are and another great thing is they take donations. I have never had an issue when I shop here and sometimes you may be surprised of how great the quality is of the items that are in here. If you want to save a lot of money to decorate your place or find something suiting for a great interview savers is the place to go. Their hours are also very convenient whether you need to stop there in the morning or you have to buy something at the end of your workday the hours are very accommodating for all shoppers. Give me if you're looking for that last minute gift for someone you can find great items that are easy to gift wrap and you won't break yourself when you shop here. Found some housewares for my living room and some books for my collection. They have a wide varieties of things in there. Nice place to shop at if you're on a budget in regards to housewares, and clothes (not out of fashion). read more

Pros: this thrift store is clean! It's organized. The clothing selection is great. The household selection is great. There is a lot of parking. Lots of fitting rooms. Cons: the prices is a bit high considering they are used ie: Used crock pot $16!, picture frames $5.99! Also kids clothes around $5?! read more

Bargains usually great. Love this place. Except today. Today was a baaad day for me and I'm not going to withhold any truth. Courtesy, be damned. I asked an employee where I might find their furniture. He directed me to a pile of orthopedic walkers, a wicker trunk and a box. I didn't know walkers were furniture. He says, "We're a little short on furniture inventory." YA THINK??? read more

Savers - That's crazy - Thrift Stores Near Me - Honolulu, Hawaii

That was my first and last time in that Savers. I can't believe how messy, dirty, unorganized and did I say messy - that store is. And! there is no excuse. I used to shop at the Kailua Savers and have been in other thrift stores and they don't even compare to what I experienced the other day - complete disgust. I literally had to use a baby wipe to wash my hands, arms, and face. Even my mother did. You know what's funny, they're supposed to be the best Savers on the island. I don't know why anyone would say that... I really can't explain it. read more

One of the best things about most Savers is that it's clean, open, and pretty easy to find thing. Opposed to it counterpart Goodwill (which is often chaotic, seemingly unsanitary, and usually has everything looking like junk thrown about. I more or less like browsing their trinkets and household goods. I can't remember ever really buying something (because they didn't have the exact thing I was searching for), but mostly everything is in good looking shape. The parking lot is a bit crowded for whatever reason, but there should be plenty of them available. read more

Savers on Dillingham is my go-to place for used clothes! When I visited a couple weeks ago, I was looking for some aloha shirts and shorts, and I was pretty happy with what I found. The selection is large enough that you can be a little picky. Prices feel a little higher than what you'd find in other thrift stores, but I'd say $15 for an aloha shirt in good condition is still a great deal. The store looks and smells like a thrift store, and it's well lit. Service is good. The aunty at the dressing rooms was very nice. Sadly the aunty at my cash register seemed a little snappy, though. She might have been having a bad day, and overall people seemed really nice. read more

Stuffs at Savers are usually in better condition than things from Goodwill or Salvation army. I find lots of clothes with tags on them and scarves that haven't been used. I agree with Nicole K's review that Savers is more Ross than thrift shop. Things I've found: Roxy dress with tags attached Vintagey Aloha shirts for boyfriend Lots and lots of picture frames. Pretty good condition radio/clocks/bags Bottom line: I like you Savers/Thriftier version of Ross :) read more

Wooooo hooooooo! The prices might be comparable to say, Walmart, but for what you can get I am not complaining. I came here to buy aloha wear and left with 3 handcrafted leis (2 bead, one fabric), a beach blanket, 4 muumuus, 2 pairs of board shorts- Hurley and Billabong, a necklace, a bracelet, and assortment of children's stickers for 80 bucks. If I lived here, I'd be buying antique Japanese ceramics. I saw some pieces to die for. The selection of clean kids toys was amazing. My 21 month old daughter had a blast playing with everything. And as for the organization-- better than most retail stores. If I had a saver's card my haul qwould have been 50% off-- so get a Saver's card online before you shop. read more

Went here looking for our Halloween costumes. Found what we needed and more. The selection can vary by the day, but today we were fortunate. Picked up a Vans long sleeve, a Tory Richard shirt, and about six more items for less than fifty dollars. Plenty of great buys. Unfortunately, we cam on Saturday and Monday's the big 50% off sale. Savers - Front if store - Thrift Stores Near Me - Honolulu, Hawaii

I've been a regular at Savers for years. I love making costumes - when I say "making" that means I create costumes from existing clothes. I can't sew very well, but I always manage to make cool original costumes with old clothes, scissors, glue, and various other materials and found objects. Many of those "found objects" are found at Savers! For example, when my son wanted to be Jake from Jake and the Neverland Pirates a couple Halloweens ago, I went to Savers and found a blue shirt, yellow shirt, white shirt, and a red scarf, then cut, glued, and ironed them into a very snazzy Jake costume. By the end, I probably spent as much as I would've on a ready-made one, but it looked way better. Okay, enough about me and my love of making costumes, and back to the review of Savers! Yes, their prices have gone up and up over the past couple of years, but there are a couple ways to mitigate this: - Bring a donation with you and they'll give you a coupon. Spend the minimum ($15 or $25, I think) and you'll get a dollar or percentage off. - Sign up for their free membership card and get on their email list and they'll let you know when they have half-off days, which seem to be about once a month. If I have time after I'm done costume hunting, I'll usually look around at the kid clothes and end up getting some things for my kiddos. Then, if I still have more time (rare!), I'll look through the women's section and household goods for stuff for me. As with any thrift shop, it's really hit-or-miss. They have a much bigger inventory than Goodwill and Salvation Army. One note, they arrange their clothing by sizes, which is great. Goodwill arranges them by color (or at least they used to), which is nice when you're looking for something specific for a costume. The staff is generally pretty friendly and helpful. I had to return something once and it was a pain the ass. Now I'll just re-donate it if I don't end up using the item - it's not worth the hassle. Sometimes you have to wait in line awhile, especially on a half-off day or near Halloween, so just be ready for that. The parking gets crowded around Halloween too, but you can always find something because it's a big lot. I like that Pricebuster's is just down the way - I usually go there afterwards for whatever I couldn't find at Savers, then go to Foodland or Yummy's to pick up dinner on the way home! read more

I love Savers... no really, I do. Who doesn't like to score a deal on clothes? Yep, majority of the items here are gently used, but you will find the occasional tag-still-attached item. My mom loves to come here to search for polo shirts and jeans for work. There's no guilt in throwing away a shirt or a pair of jeans that has been worn well (by her) and now past its prime --- she only paid $5-7 for it! Mosdef got her usage out of it and then some! I like to find random pieces of clothes that I think my closet needs after I've cleaned it out for donations. Speaking of donations... donate your clothes, help a charity... and score a coupon to use at Savers! They have 50% off specific colored label days... just gotta find those deals. Even if you pay full price for your finds, your wallet is thanking you and you're helping a charity all at the same time. Wooo hooo!!! Pat yourself on the back! Since it's almost Halloween, I must say that this is my go-to for Halloween items. They have the gently used clothes if you wanna get creative, they have brand new costumes, they have the accessories and the makeup too!!! Savers is a lot cleaner than other thrift stores... bright and clean versus dark and dusty. You'll find treasure here... give it a try! read more

I always seem to come here when I need to look for a Halloween costume or get inspiration for a costume for a party. I always seem to find something that I can use here. Also, there are many gems hidden in this store. Many people think that Thrift stores are just for poor people, but trust me, there are many people who come in with Louis V purses and drive fancy cars and shop here. Ive seen it for myself. They always have a variety of items and are always for great prices. I always seem to gravitate towards the decorative items and dishes. I see some really pretty things that make me want to buy them, but I have nowhere to put them in my place. I also find a lot of great throwback items from when I was growing up as a child. It takes me down memory lane which always makes my visits there great. Their Halloween section never seems to fail or disappoint me. Some of the costumes are pricey, but they seem to be worth it. They have a great variety and their always on point with the variety of decorations, makeup, accessories, etc for the Halloween season. For staff, I dont really interact with them until I checkout, but the cashiers that I have are pretty friendly and nice. I havent had a bad experience so far and hope that I dont. For those who have seen my reviews for places that have treated me badly, you know whats up. Overall, I will def come back and always do whenever I need inspiration or need to find something for an occasion. read more

I am in thrift shop heaven. The Hawai'i transition has been seamless thanks in part to stores like this. I can't believe the complete categories and the range of sizes. Found my rice cooker, and yes, this place has a testing outlet too. It opens late (til 9), so I can take my time if I am looking for a few things. Minus star because the selection is more clothing than household items. The pricing is random, so it's not quite the bargain that us second-shoppers are used to. Go to Goodwill for better deals. Will report the comparison if I make it to the Waipahu location. read more

Savers is a great place to find decent clothes at a cheap price. Only downside sometimes they don't have the size you're looking for but then again, some of these clothes on the shelves/racks are donated. Their halloween selection was great but pricey. We were throwing an 80's event and needed some funky clothing circa the 1980's for cheap so others could have something to wear if they didn't come dressed up. This was my first time to Savers. I was excited, and ready to rummage to find a good deal and something perfect for the 80's event. Walking in, it did have that funky smell, but it was tolerable, I suppose. I was surprised that prices were higher then I expected, at least for the things we found. Very short hot pink shorts for men at around $5, neon orange board shorts for women at $5, good finds, but the price wasn't the greatest for something only used as props, later to be donated back to Salvation Army or whatever. One great find, in my humble opinion, a highlighter yellow baseball cap, perfect! That was only $1.99. As I browsed I did see a few things that were pretty decent: - Burberry long-sleeved button down for Men, $19.99. (It was this perfect shade of lavender with the thinnest pink stripes, it was nice. No stains and all the buttons attached.) - Cinnmon Girl dress for $14.99, I believe. It was a pink floral one. So I guess if your'e willing to rummage through the racks, you may find what you're looking for. In my case, we were successful in finding some ugly 80's-ish garb. So I would have to say I'm glad we went. read more

I've been to a couple of other Savers on the island, and this location is by far the best. It has a great selection of clothes and a lot of cool knick knacks -- my favorite things to shop for. I was in a rush during my last visit and I truly wish that I had more time to browse. Last year, I found about three shirts here at great prices (around $1-$4). I wear them all the time to school on the mainland! If you're taking a trip or planning on moving to somewhere with colder weather, Savers is a great place to find some warm clothes (pullovers, sweaters, blazers, winter coats, beanies, etc.) at a fraction of the retail price. Plus, if you get lucky, you can find some really nice stuff. I once found a relatively thick (compared to say, a windbreaker or a hoodie), beige, collared Ralph Lauren jacket with a dark green and navy checkered design on the inside. My go-to jacket in 40-50 degree weather! read more

This savers is one of my go to thrift stores on island. I prefer this one over a lot of the other salvation army's on island due to its wide selection and consistent prices. Parking is also very convenient since there is a wide spacious lot directly outside of the store. From this specific location, I have bought everything from jackets, jeans, record players and silverware. I recommend it for any thrift lover who wants anything from shoes, houseware, clothes and decor. read more

I'll admit, of all the thrift store options, Savers has always been my favorite. Years ago I would come to Savers and ALWAYS find something amazing. A third of my coveted vintage dresses were probably scored from a Savers back before it was cool to thrift. Anyways, not much has seemed to of changed, and this particular Savers doesn't disappoint. While I no longer spend as much time looking for dresses for myself, I do now look for great deals on retro or vintage home decor. Just today I was in Savers and found this kitschy embroidered floral art piece that set me back $4.99. I also picked up 14 collectible children's books for my son's library. They were buy 4 get 1 free, and each cost $0.69. In the past I've found this gorgeous vintage ice bucket that I repurposed into a planter, a huge nautical themed oil painting that I hung in my son's room, and several adorable retro figurines that I placed sporadically throughout my house. They give a 25% Military discount on Wednesday's, which makes your already cheap as shit purchase even cheaper, YAY! This place has a fantastic layout. I really do appreciate how they label the rows of items, hang them accordingly and nothing is ever cluttered or messy. My only gripe is the location...but that's not really any reason not to come here. read more

I really just come here once or twice at the most a year for Halloween costume accessories or a themed party occassion because it's the cheaper route than buying from other retailers that I'm probably only gonna use once. They have a wide variety of clothing but because I don't trust 100% where these clothes come from, I become quite hesitant in buying clothes from here. Whenever I do come here, I browse around to see what clothing they have in my section just to see what type of vintage clothes comes through here. I haven't had any luck in finding cheap name brand wears that would probably catch my attention. A lot of the prices are quite steep for something that's used. I'd rather go to Ross and find the same type of deal and know that it's new. I've donated here once and it's a quick process where you can pull up to the store and have someone assist you in getting your donation drop offs. read more

Savers - When you on a budget you come out spending only $6 for Halloween... Winning! - Thrift Stores Near Me - Honolulu, Hawaii

Did you all know that this Savers in Kalihi is the best selling Savers in the nation? For real it really is! I learned it first from United Cerebral Paulsy's executive director. Everyone usually has there go-to thrift shops and Savers is usually my go-to. They usually are known for their Halloween section during Halloween time. They do have a decent amount of thrift things. What I like about Savers is that they team up and partner with many many nonprofit organizations. They are a for-profit company that serves nonprofits and they make a lot of money for them thanks to the used items of the community. There are some things that I feel are kinda maybe overpriced for the item that they are selling. I would say the most sketchest items that they sell are the electronics. They are usually very dirty and they look broken so I do not even know why they sell them. Everything else like clothing, books, houseware, and some others are pretty decent. The staff and customer service is ok. The store is within the Dillingham Shopping Center area which is next to Foodland, LnL Hawaiian BBQ, etc. The parking for that area could get filled depending on what time of the day that you go. The store is fairly large as well. I usually like to shop for suits over here since they are really cheap haha. read more

A super long line & only 2 registers open. Constantly been this way for as long as I've been coming.

DONATING: I enjoy knowing that I can recycle my goods that I do not use so that others may benefit from them. Park at the loading zone at the front of the store and drop them off at the big red bins. Ask for a tax receipt from the workers to track your donations for tax deductions under the next income tax period. PURCHASING THRIFTED ITEMS: Quality second-hand clothing can be purchased here at an affordable price. I love the thrill of finding a great piece of clothing. It's like treasure hunting! I've found clothing from brands like J. Crew, Banana Republic, Gap, Black House White Market, Ann Taylor, American Eagle Outfitters, etc. There is also a great selection of vintage aloha shirts. If you look hard enough, you can even find designer goods like Prada but you need to do your research to know if it is real or not. Don't forget to also check for any imperfections, such as stains, rips, or missing buttons. SECRET TIP: You might look at the prices of the tags and think that it is a bit pricey. That may be true, but there are special sales that you need to consider. - Daily 50% off of one colored tag - Stamp cards that offer 30% off once filled - 50% off clothes, accessories, bed & bath, and shoes on holidays (Note: The lines are crazy long on these days and can snake around the store.) - Best yet: sign up for the Savers club card and you can get emails for special sales on specific days. DID YOU KNOW: Did you know that fast fashion (i.e. Forever21 and Zara) is the second dirtiest industry in the world, compared to oil? Crazy, right? Limit your reliance on fast fashion, where the production of clothes has a negative impact to workers who make them as well as to the environment. Go to thrift shops or sustainable fashion retailers instead! Note also that a portion of the proceeds made from Savers goes back to local nonprofits, such as the United Cerebral Palsy Association of Hawaii while unsold clothes are recycled or donated elsewhere. ABOUT THE STORE: The Savers family of stores is a for-profit, global thrift retailer offering great quality, gently used clothing, accessories and household goods. Their business model of purchasing, reselling and recycling gives communities a smart way to shop and keeps more than 650 million pounds of used goods from landfills each year. They also help more than 120 nonprofit organizations by paying them for donated goods, which supports their vital community programs and services. These brands comprise Savers (in the U.S), Value Village (in the U.S. and Canada), Unique (in the U.S.), Village des Valeurs (in Quebec) and Savers Australia. All in all, they operate over 330 locations and have 22,000 employees. (This paragraph was adapted from their website.) read more
