For example there was a stand with a used doll they were selling for $20. What??!! Their used jewelry section was better but again, I'm not sure I would buy earrings that someone wore for $10-15. It was a good 3-minute look, but definitely shouldn't be dubbed a "market".

Today I decided to brave the dreaded left hand turn on Eggert to test my luck in Tonawanda. This place is wider than my old haunt, so points for quantity. Everything is sorted into catergories, yet I took the time to stroll through all the racks. Generally when I shop clothes I look to see if anything catches my eye instead of leafing through, especially if it has the color tag of the day. This store makes the plastic tether colored as well in case any of the tags accidentally get removed. Blue was the chosen child, at 50% off, and I found a few pairs of pants to try on, along with a sweater. You have to get permission to use the locked fitting rooms here. The peppy register girl let me in to a small room with the full length mirror on the door, a chair and a few wall hooks. I didn't have enough booty to fill the pants, and while they offer a returns rack, I took them back myself as I was passing through to get to the rest of the store. In the back they have housewares. I passed on a Mickey Mouse alarm clock (aesthetically great, but who uses analog these days?) and considered grabbing one of their numerous mugs (only second in bounty to the playpen of stuffies up for adoption) before just settling on the sweater that I had picked out. At the register I was pleased to find that my total came to three dollars and change. Sure, thrift stores are not as cheap as they used to be, and my change was rounded because pennies have been eliminated, but if you scour the racks you may find a great deal, used, or even new. They say one man's trash is another man's treasure, and I may have found a doubloon, but I'm still looking for the ultimate bounty.

This pretty little shop is (obviously) located on the Roycroft Campus, in a building built in 1904 and designated as a Furniture Shop during the Roycroft era. This antique shop shares space with Norberg's Art & Frame Shop. Though the building looks pretty huge, most of the antiques sit in one average room (they take up less space than you'd think!). There's a good variety of things here. They've got anything from large pieces that would make a great contribution to any antique collection, or refurbished home decor, to my favorite cheap finds, like postcards, political buttons, and picture prints. From what I could tell, everything was fairly priced for being antiques! I was pretty much alone to explore the shop, though I had a brief glimpse of a gentleman who said to let him know if I had any questions - before he totally vanished. (But I'm sure if I needed him, I could have found him in the building somewhere.) I know I'm going to find something awesome here one day. I'm totally going to return when I'm in the area again!

It is located within the First Presbyterian Church at the corner of Wadsworth and Pennsylvania. The entrance is on Wadsworth, but there is parking available via a driveway on Pennsylvania. Additionally, there is handicap access available. If needed, call from the parking lot and one of the volunteers will come to escort you to the code-required elevator. Okay. Now that we know where Serendipity can be found, what can we expect within? At least one serendipitous find. For instance, last Saturday my daughter, just prior to attending a graduation party, found a graduation card there, obviating the need to stop again to buy a card. That could not have been more serendipitous. Okay, okay. Imagine a thrift store and an antique store got married and had a baby. Serendipity? But, of course. You won't find clothing, as a rule. Not saying never, but Amvets and Buffalo City Mission have clothes. At Serendipity you will find collectibles of myriad types, books, jewelry, lamps, dinnerware, pottery, home décor, eclectic gifts. Perhaps a hat. Possibly a shawl. Books are nicely shelved and categorized. Every other thrift store I have been in could take a lesson. I had planned to return and take some interior photos before reviewing; seeing as the location seemed to be in question from past reviews, however, I decided to post now, make the location clear, and return at some later date with more photos. But there have been numerous times when I was about to head over there (or had already arrived) during the supposed business hours and discovered the shop was closed. I have not tried selling anything at this shop but was hoping to start soon. I will keep patronizing because the prices are fair, sometimes even a steal! And the clothes are in decent shape, if not excellent shape. Beware of parking! Buffalo parking police stalked me when I parked out front on Hertel to dash in real quick with my newborn on a 98°F day and issued me a parking ticket. I was peeved but I deserved the ticket. Just don't do what I did and think you can avoid hunting down a parking meter on a hot day with a baby in tow. Scout out parking ahead of time and pay!!
