It's close to my regular grocery stores, so I was really hoping this was going to be the place. All I can say is that it's not not the place. Walking in, I immediately came to face a large security footage screen, as if to deter me from theft. The proceeds of the sales go towards feeding and clothing the underprivileged (they say they even give some donations to the people in need, which explains where all the clothes I throw in those red boxes around town go) which you would hope would make anyone with a conscience pay up, though at the prices they charge, I could see why one wouldn't want to. The prices are more comparable to a low end clothing retailer like Walmart than second hand stores I have grown accustomed to. They also had the colored tags, and I looked unsuccessfully for signage to see if it meant any deals. Their website explains the color would make something half off, which must not have been the case today. I combed through the racks, which are sorted by type and size instead of color. I was able to find one cheaper pair of pants to try on, so I headed to the back, where there were two massive unlocked fitting rooms. They were super clean and spacious with a wall sized mirror, a bench and a rack for returns. I could comfortably kick my legs about (yes, kick, as I was testing the durability) and squat down (butt crack coverage) without worrying about hitting the wall. Side quest accomplished. I had also looked through the rest of the store: furniture, housewares, toys and books. I was disturbed to find a used bottle of mouthwash for sale on the shelf, which is mostly the reason why when deciding between a three and a four for this review, I knocked it down. The cashier asked if I wanted to join the loyalty program, to which I declined, watching my total pop up on a screen in front of me. They're rounding pennies now for those paying cash. Which in the grand scheme of things hopefully means that an extra two cents is helping those they serve. I might come back at some point, with more money in my wallet to poke around, but for a place called Heart, this isn't my new love.

My friend and brought me here today and introduced me to Carrie who owns and operates the store. She was super nice and knowledgeable about the inventory. Left us alone to browse but was never too far away when we had questions about things. I picked up a huge wooden picture frame for an item I need to frame. Been looking for a while now so this was perfect timing. I'll be back for sure to browse and find random treasures.

None of the workers talked to us until we asked them a question and then they offered us their thoughts on our outfits and was much more visible and approachable. There's a really good selection here. The men's section is pretty much two-three racks. Which was disappointing. There's a ton of quality options and even better when you come during one of their sales. Came during their pink and blue sale. 50% and 30% off of their clothes. There's boots, hats, jeans, dresses, jumpers, night gowns, slits, lingerie, jackets, jewlery and more. A lot of cute things. There's about 5 different rooms for you wander around. Fitting room is in the back of the store. There's 4 I believe. There wasn't a great range of sizes. The entrance is hidden however. You need to walk down a semi ally to get to the store. I didn't see any signs on the street. There was a small rack of clothes on the sideway which let me know that I was in the right area. Parking is on the street. Depending on the time of day, it could be easy or you'll be walking a few blocks. If you're parking on the main street, make sure you pay for parking during the week because parking enforcement are always around.

This would be the "premier" center that holds a lot of the higher end antiques and collectibles that the other locations wouldn't necessarily feature. I've always found that you usually need to ask if the vendors have a "deal" or "special" going on and I have never paid the asking price. I've always walked away with a deal. You'll need to barter and they're willing to contact the seller with price offers. Lots of great furniture and other items up for grabs. Definitely check it out.

I don't now what the problem was with those who were so unhappy. I'm in retail it is VERY THOUGHTLESS to come in 10 or 12 minutes before closing. We made some purchases, we did arrive at 10 am and waited out on the porch. They don't open until 11. A lovely lady drove up parked her car and asked "What are you doing out here? Please, please come in, you don't have to wait out here". What a sweetheart! I'm currently contacting them about a vintage mink coat I would like. Also I frequently shop in Charleston and found the Antique Center quite reasonable and with a beautiful selection. My husband was quite impressed

I knocked off a star for the Jesus music (which another reviewer accurately described as loud and distracting) and the smell. After initially dropping off my two items, one authentic handbag and one inspired bag, the owner told me she would be emailing me a confirmation and contract (which she never did) and would call if/when they sold. After 3 months of no contact, I stopped in to see how the status of my items were. Upon arrival, I was told by the owner that she couldn't verify the authenticity of my items and could not find the serial number on the authentic handbag-- because of this, she said she had tried reaching out to me through phone, left voicemails, and sent emails but never head back from me which is a complete lie because I received no phone calls, no voicemails, and no emails (none in spam folder either). Once I looked at the authentic handbag, I was able to find the serial number within 30 seconds and showed her and she verified it in front of me on her authenticating program all while acting completely dumbfounded she didn't originally find it. Not only was I disappointed that she didn't actually notify me but also, both of my bags were on the floor behind her front counter, amongst other items on the floor not even in their dust bags. I gave her one more chance to sell my items and gave her some grace for the miscommunication. Another 3 months, and I stop in to take my items home because clearly they just weren't selling and the dustbag for my inspired bag was missing and when asked about it, the owner immediately became defensive and started raising her voice at me. She tried to make me feel guilty because she paid $25 of her own money to verify my bag and gave me the certificate for it to keep. All I wanted was for her to look around her store for my original dustbag and she continued to give me attitude and said she'd give me a generic dustbag but that i would have to return to her the authenticating certificate that she paid for. It's concerning how poorly she handled such a small request for MY item, expecting something in return despite the fact that part of my item was lost while in her possession. I'd recommend going elsewhere for any items you want to consign because the owner is just a complete bullshitter and rude.

Sanborn Old General Store is a rabbit warren of antiques, collectibles, and general household things you might be looking for, even if you didn't know it before you visited. But I was looking for two lamps, one for a book case and a floor model. Found both. Each little section belongs to a different seller, each seller renting a space for their wares. One sales host on site when I stopped in today, Geraldine. She was very helpful. I found lamps that would work for me, each one belonging to a different seller. The prices were reasonable, but I had a limit of what I could spend on the two. Geraldine called the sellers with my offers. First was accepted, second was a compromise. A third item, a plant stand, interested me, but it was new to the store so the dealer declined my offer. I will check back in about two weeks when I'm next out that way. Because of the quantity and variety of items in the store, the place is a collector's dream ... and a museum for all. Even if you don't live near Sanborn (I'm about 25 miles away), I'm sure you will enjoy the experience. There is also a very clean and cozy rest room.
