The dressing room was pretty gross and not enough hanging hooks if you want to try on items. They do have specials by tag color and day of the week. Jewelry items are up front behind the counter. This thrift store is always well stocked with clothing and shoes. The housewares are rather sparse right now. Monday is Senior discount day and they also have daily discounts. Amvets is less expensive than the Goodwill store, so I think we're getting more for our money here. read more

I hit this location on Mondays to take advantage of the 25% senior discount on all clothing. I've been going for ten years and I've been lucky in finding both some great, $$$$ hard to find designer clothes at a a low price as well as some spectacular antique furniture and accessories. Armani, RL, Boss and now over 100 pieces of Under Armour activewear are a few pieces I've discovered...always a mini gold mine with the mens clothes. 5 department store racks packed with high quality clothing with more coming in weekly. Lol...I can wear a totally different outfit daily for six months and not repeat any pieces. Addict perhaps? Perfect store for that!! My whole dining room was found there, piece by piece, as well as some Stiffel lamps, all in flawless condition. The table is an Art Deco one off piece made of six exotic hard woods, dated 1934. I've certainly unearthed some valuable things, both at this location as well as the one on Elmwood. Prices are far lower than Goodwill and the staff are very friendly and they greet me when I see them. Best store in Buffalo!!! read more

Bottom line: nothing in particular is "wrong" with the location, but it's quite small compared to other similar thrift stores and therefore limited in stock. For me, makes the hit or miss nature of thrifting skew towards a miss. On the positive side, the place is relatively well cared for and organized. They do a particularly good job with their books section in the front of the store - organized well by genre, which many thrift stores don't bother with. Otherwise this location, for me, suffers from the same fatal flaw as the nearby Goodwill location - just not enough there! When thrifting you can expect to sift through lots of random crap before finding your diamond in the rough - if there's less stuff to sift through, it follows that finding a diamond is all the more difficult. Unless you live in the area and the location is convenient to you, I wouldn't bother making the drive. read more

This is my favorite chain of thrift store - and I'm shocked there's only a few here, a couple in Tennessee, and one in Long Island! I love supporting the Veterans and they offer a round-up to donate extra. So if your bill is 11.45, you can round up to 12 even and donate the rest of the change - such a great idea! Like all thrift shops you have to sift through to find the gems, and sometimes I'll find nothing and other times I'll find a ton. This place is great - I have gotten furniture, coats, tons of housewares, clothes, you name it. Just this past weekend I found 4 baby outfits, a pair of sequins covered Sperry Top Sliders, like new pajamas, some maternity clothesline, and they had a HUGE selection of plus sized clothes for my friend - who found a bunch of stuff (usually that section is paltry - not here). I can't recommend this chain enough - this is my local /closest one and I always donate to them. Other locations are larger but they all have marvelous finds. Oh, and every Memorial Day, Veterans Day, and a bunch of other holidays - the whole store is half off!! read more

Don't be fooled by the fancy, high-end strip mall location. While this place might look like it could be a TJ Maxx or a Marshall's from the outside, once you walk in you quickly realize that this place's got the goods. Sure, you'll have to slide a few nice-smelling fleeces and preppy brand name V-necks out of the way, but with a modicum of effort you'll easily be walkin' outta here with a bag full of heavily stained Hawaiian shirts, Mantovani LPs, and a t-shirt from some girl's 2014 Bat Mitzvah that's way too small for you. And that's not all. Ill-fitting sweatshirt that seems to have been bedazzled by a deranged cat lady? Check. Ratty, smelly old man bathrobe for a night out on the town? Check. Hospital socks? Check. Gold-embroidered hip hop jeans? Oh yeah, snatched that shit right up (even if my girlfriend refused to be seen in public with me wearing them). Warning to all the ladies out there: Never make your man choose between your love and wearing his new Ruthless Jeans out to dinner with your family. I mean, a normal person would probably give in and not wear them (or probably wouldn't want wear them in the first place), but I will throw a fit and ultimately trash everything we have together just to be able to look like an imbecile and embarrass you in public. All in all, a solid thrift store experience. A little something for everyone. I docked it one star though, just because of how clean and nice the outside looks. Keep it real. Whether it's all dressed up & calls itself "boutique" or "consignment shop", or it's bare bones Sally, you are buying someone's used clothes. Amvets has some terrific finds at very nice prices. The well-heeled philanthropic Southtowners donate their gently worn duds to this location. Having downsized considerably and needing an entire wardrobe in a smaller size, I headed here. Brand names abound, (Talbots, Coldwater Creek, JCrew, Macys, JJill, 9 West, Bandolino, Ralph Lauren, Laura Ashley, Izod) along with brands common to Target and WalMart. The store is very clean, well organized, departments are clearly marked with overhead signage. They also sell furniture, books, housewares, even a few bicycles for sale. The young man at the counter was very polite and kind. I had a $4.00 off coupon and as a Veteran, received a 25% discount on my entire order. A few items were tagged 50% off. Easy parking. An easy drive. Better t-shirts at the Hertel/Elmwood location. All profits support our Veterans. read more

This is my favorite place to shop. I shouldn't give away my secrets, but I rarely buy any clothing brand new. My scrubs for work, my favorite brands that I can't afford- like Black and White, Gap, Calvin Klein. You know- sometimes people buy things and don't wear them, or wear them once or twice, it happens to me- what to do? Donate to Amvets- and for $5 I get really really nice clothes! You do have to look hard, but my hunter gatherer instincts are in full swing when I'm here. It's neat and clean, (relatively) the floors kinda dusty, I noticed this when trying on clothes and accidentally letting them touch the floor. Thrift store. Yeah, I go there. Want to make something of it? Where else can a photographer build a unique fashion statement for a photoshoot in under 24-hours and for less than $20? Next time you see me in there buying dresses, realize they're technically NOT for me. However, I also do grab the occasional wardrobe upgrade, getting like new brand-name threads for pennies. Why not recycle a little? Those kids in Malaysia that sewed it all were already exploited once when the clothing was purchased new - at least you're not exploiting them again, right? This place is completely disgusting. The other night (Friday night) I went in to look around for some Halloween ideas. The place looked run downed. It needs new paint. I was looking through the sweaters. It was the first section I went through and the next thing I see a little kid crawling under the clothing racks through the aisles. "Woahh, what the fuck?" I mumbled to myself. Kids are going to be kids but their parents didn't seem to care. I could of mistakenly stepped on him. I went to go try on the sweater and the fitting room wall had boogers wiped on them. "That's cute..." I removed my hat and shirt to try on the sweater. It was to small. I put it back and all of a sudden, I felt itchy and started scratching myself. I shook it off and waited as my girlfriend tried on the clothes she grabbed. She collected a few items and we finally decided to cash out. I don't work in customer service. I used ti, but I'm pretty sure the cashier is not to have one ear bud in listening to his personal music while interacting with customers. He did his spiel, "how's it going?", "find everything okay?" "Have a good one." But really dude?... ear buds? This came off as extremely rude to me. The ONLY reason why I'm giving it one star is because they had a hand sanitizer station as we were walking out. This is my FAVORITE Amvets for clothes, although the one on Elmwood always has my heart for service and pure nostalgia. Service/Ambiance - This is in a VERY nice, well taken care of building. Some decent landscaping, nice parking lot (still no shade though!). Very clean inside. They only lose one star because they have a few workers who are just downright horrible. One girl in particular who I ALWAYS seem to get wears her headphones AND text messages while she is "helping" you. Incredibly unprofessional and rude - this would get me fired in a minute at any retail job I've had. They do have some nice folks, but they are overshadowed by the abominable service of people like the aforementioned girl. Selection - Huge selection in general, but hands down the BEST selection of women's clothes of any of the Amvets in the area. This is the "bougie" Amvets (bougie equates to uppity, snobby, etc in "hood" lingo), which is to say the people around the area that donate are largely middle-middle to upper-middle class and clearly label shop. You can find Ann Taylor Loft, Vera Wang and a variety of other very expensive brands. I'm not really a brand shopper but it is just impressive the amount of expensive, high quality, barely worn stuff they have. I picked up about ten cardigans here one day, all really cool styles, all name brand, for $3-5 each. I can't leave here without spending $50-60 on clothes, which is several garbage bags full. They have amazing bric-a-brac and a good selection of shoes. My boyfriend also paid about $12 here for $300 worth of Express, Aeropostale, etc polos and dress shirts for work. read more

I STRONGLY believe in supporting this chain... the veterans. However, while shopping in THIS store earlier this week, another customer took my hat {yes, the one I walked in with - which cost nearly one hundred dollars} from my cart and promptly bought it with manager approval for $5.00! How somebody COULD purchase something that didn't have a sticker on it, is beyond me. The long and short - I was told it was a regular customer and they'd get my hat back. Well, they did, however they didn't even call me when they got it, and there was never ONE I'm {we're} sorry during the whole event! I drove 24 miles to retrieve it and it was just handed to me without a word!!! I SO wanted this to have a good, positive ending.. it didn't. read more
