I'm sure everyone has had an underwhelming experience here AT LEAST once…read more I'm going to divide this review up into two parts, one based on selling your own clothing, the other based on buying clothes. The selling experience: I don't think anyone should go to Plato's with the expectation that they will buy all of your clothes, or that you'll make good money if they do buy. They might be able to give you enough money to cover a tank of gas, but that's about it. I never have high hopes when I bring in a crate of clothing to sell, and I cannot stress enough that you shouldn't either. They have very strict guidelines on what they can and cannot buy, so don't take it personally when an employee gives you most of your clothes back. The buying experience: Honestly, the word "misleading" sounds harsh, but is the best way I can sum up this shop. Their Instagram page is full of trendy clothing, but when you actually go to the store, they don't have nearly as much trendy apparel as they express on social media. The prices are good, and if you've got the time it's worth it to browse the racks for an hour. But moments of finding clothing that actually appeals to your taste are few and far between. I do enjoy coming here once a month or so to see if they've got any clothes that appeal to me. I rarely sell here, I only do so when I'm looking for a little extra cash. I empathize with the frustration of the many who come to sell and leave with a little less than they came with, mostly because upon strolling through the shop, it's hard to question why they wouldn't buy your clothes in the first place.

The whole place had faded carpets, dusty outdated photos hung up, dust in the corners, and overwhelmingly strong wall-plug ins to try to mask the scent of the store which really turned me off from wanting to stay and shop and gave me a headache. As I was looking for shorts I looked down at a massive yellow stain on the carpet of the store and was completely grossed out. I'm surprised this place stays in business with how unclean and unkept it is. I didn't expect it to be spic and span as it is a consignments shop, but I definitely wasn't expecting it to be this bad. My whole dining room was found there, piece by piece, as well as some Stiffel lamps, all in flawless condition. The table is an Art Deco one off piece made of six exotic hard woods, dated 1934. My mom had already gone in with a friend a week prior, and Monroe helped her into DOZENS of dresses that were suited to my mom - and getting her into any dress is hard...the owner is just so good with people! My mom is not a girly woman at all, and she rarely wears dresses or anything like this, but Monroe quickly figured out my mom's preferences and showed her dresses that really flattered her figure.
