provides free passage across the Savannah River between downtown's riverwalk and Hutchinson Island, home of the Savannah Convention Center and Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort & Spa. The City Hall which is a full limestone and granite structure with the gold leafed copper dome is viewed best from the Savannah belles ferry while in the river. We got into the ferry (it's free) at the City Hall Landing area. It took us to the Savannah Convention Center(which was closed) and Westinn area which is on the other side of the river. There is a model of Ogelthorpe's liberty ship there.

While I'm historic Savannah, you may or may not need to use the ferry, but this is a great plus for tourists. I had to use it four times per day while I was there and I thought it was the best thing ever. It took about 3-5 minutes to go from city landing to the convention center/ Westin. The Ferry runs about every 20-30 minutes and it is rarely late. If you leave from waving girl, it will first stop at city landing prior to the Westin across the river. They did close it down for a while on one morning due to poor visibility because of the fog. Did I mention the ferry is free. For those that don't need to use it, I still suggest you get on it for a quick tour down the river.

Best things in life are free - and that certainly includes the lovely Savannah Belles Ferry ride ! The four beautiful "belles" or ferry boats are named after four remarkable Savannah women - Juliette Gordon Low (founder of the American Girl Scouts) , Mary Musgrove (Native American woman who played a crucial role in the founding of Savannah), Susie Taylor King ( gained freedom from slavery at age 14 and served as a nurse during the civil war) and Florence Martus (the waving girl of Savannah). The "belles" or ferry boats are charming historic vessels, maintained well and cared for well by the crew. The ferry operates between 3 docks - Trade center landing at Hutchinson Island near the Westin, the Waving girl Landing at Morrell park and the Savannah Riverwalk center at City Hall. I highly recommend just enjoying the ferry between these docks and the view from of beautiful Savannah from ferry - there's nothing like it! The ferries operate from 7 am till 10 pm daily - it's free. You can carry bicycles as well. The ferry ride is one of the reasons I love Savannah! I could never tire of taking the ride .

The ferry has three stops Marriott Riverfront, Convention center and Hyatt Regency. The ride is very pleasant and it is free. The boat leaves every 20 mins and it is on-time. It seems very history and spacious inside the boat. I highly suggest to try it if you are visiting Savannah as the scenery is very beautiful.

How cool is it to hop a boat whenever you want to cross the river?! We stayed at the Westin in April and even though the ferry is "free", you pay a resort fee for the privilege. Totally worth it! We found the ferries to be on time (the Westin gave us a brochure with scheduled times and it was easy to plan accordingly). The boats stopped at the Marriott, as well as the Hyatt. Pleasant and quick ride. Ferry got crowded, but it was comfortable. Loved it!

It runs about once an hour or seems to. If your not in a hurry it's a great way to get across the river without the drive over the bridge.

The Savannah Belles Ferry is a ferry service that shuttles you across the Savannah River. It is a free shuttle service. They have stops at the Trade Center Landing located next to the Westin Hotel, Waving Girl Landing located at the Marriott Hotel, and the City Hall Landing which is located next to the Hyatt. A Ferry Boat leaves from the landing every 20 minutes. It is a nice ride if you don't want to take the bridge over to the Westin Hotel and back. The ride is nice and scenic. Please beware of the Savannah mosquitos while waiting for the ferry at the City Hall Landing. They are different from the Florida mosquitos that attacked my arm. The Savannah mosquitos attacked my legs, and bit through my clothes. The ferry is not only free, but, it is also clean. There are plenty of seats inside the boat. For those that don't mind getting bit by the mosquito, they also allow you to ride outside as well. The Savannah Belles Ferry is cool! Make sure you bring your mosquito repellant!

Savannah Riverboat Lunch Cruise: Great Experience, But Skip the Included Lunch…read more My husband and I took the Savannah Riverboat Cruise with the lunch option, and overall, it was a memorable outing we'd happily repeat--with one change. The service was fantastic: friendly, attentive, and professional throughout. The boat itself is beautiful, with lovely views of the Savannah River and historic sites. The captain's narration was a highlight. He provided fascinating facts, interesting historical tidbits, and maritime knowledge about the area the entire time--only pausing briefly for questions, which he answered thoroughly. My husband was particularly impressed by his expertise on the local maritime history. A fun moment came when we passed Old Fort Jackson--they fired a cannon at us! It was thrilling to hear the boom and imagine what it must have felt like in the past. Unfortunately, the included lunch was the one disappointment. The food was lackluster and completely lacking in flavor--it tasted bland and unseasoned, almost like institutional or nursing home fare. Everything was just overall "blah." We'd definitely do the riverboat tour again. Next time, though, we'd skip the lunch package and either grab something from the grill on the top deck or eat before or after the cruise. Highly recommend the experience for the boat, views, and narration--just plan your own meal!

Where are you traveling from?" Nothing. No welcome or warm greeting. The next person wanted us to take a picture. For money, no doubt. No way. We're already not wanted, why would you want a picture? I've already decided I'm not spending any more money after being greeted in that fashion. No drinks, no snacks, and no souvenirs. The narrator was knowledgeable, had a few jokes, and was tipped appropriately. The paddlers do not run. Two stars for a knowledgeable narrator and clean restrooms. Otherwise, this riverboat cruise is a big pass.

Beautiful, untouched, and pristine are just a few of a bounty of words that could be used to…read moredescribe this wonderful place. Amazing and awesome are a couple others. Not a lot of people make it to Ossabaw Island. For one there is no regular ferry service nor is there a road that runs to the island. This is on purpose. Sandy Torrey West, whose family has owned the island since the 1920's, sold the island to the state in 70's as a Heritage Preserve with the understanding that Ossabaw would "be used for natural, scientific and cultural study, research and education, and environmentally sound preservation, conservation and management of the Island's ecosystem". That means that unless you go there for one of the few deer / hog hunts the state puts on or you go there for an event you probably aren't getting there. If you have a boat you can park it off the beach and come up on the beach, but it's illegal to go past the high tide line of the island. I believe the island sees less than 2000 people a year on it. It shows too. I got to check the island out for myself after going on a service trip with the Georgia Conservancy. We arrived on Friday by a special ferry, worked on cleaning up the large spanish style Torrey West mansion and the clubhouse/grounds Saturday, and left Sunday. During this time we took full advantage of the clubhouse that was built in the 1880's and recently revamped. We also hung out with the feral donkeys that are on the island, as well as took an hour long ride through the forest and marsh to check out the beach. We saw armadillos, wild hogs, alligators, and lots of shore birds. It's amazing how wild and unspoiled the island is. No trash, no noise, no people. Just wilderness. The ride through the interior of the island made me think of Jurassic Park. Just huge old live oaks with spanish moss hanging down and lots of palmettos scattered about. Interesting tidbit is the road that we went down is possibly oldest continously-used dirt road in the country. Mrs. Torrey West has moved off the island at age 103 and the Ossabaw Island Foundation will soon be in the process of slowly renovating her house as they already have for the clubhouse and bunkhouse. There are also some slave cabins that are slowly being restored as well. Long before Mrs. Torrey West and family lived here there were 4 plantations on the island. If interested in seeing and staying on the island yourself look on the Ossabaw Island Foundation website, they manage the cultural and education aspects of the island, and check out the calendar. There are often writing or artist workshops which is what Sandy Torrey West wanted for her island. The Island is ridiculously beautiful and I am so thankful to Sandy Torrey West and other wealthy land owners like her on the Georgia coast who thought that the best thing for their islands would be conservation for future generations. I have been to Cumberland which I always thought was untouched, but Ossabaw beats Cumberland out by a mile. The unspoiled nature of the island is something that can only being experienced by being there. *Google Eleanor Torrey West for more info on how this island came to be. The story behind her life and love of the island is quite interesting.

We chose to do the full loop first so we could hear Jared's complete narration before hopping off to explore. It was the perfect decision! He shared fascinating details about Savannah's rich history, along with some lesser-known fun facts that really brought the city to life. The tour sparked our excitement to visit spots we might have overlooked otherwise. The hop-on hop-off format worked brilliantly for us. Buses arrived quickly at each stop--we rarely waited long--and the stops are conveniently located near all the main tourist attractions. It got a bit crowded toward the end of the day (around 5 p.m.), and we occasionally had to wait for the next bus, but overall, it was seamless and stress-free. One small suggestion: I wish the tours ran a little later than 5 p.m. It would be ideal for avoiding parking hassles and enjoying dinner downtown--there are so many delicious restaurants to try! We highly recommend this tour for anyone wanting an easy, informative, and enjoyable way to see Savannah. Thanks to Jared for making it memorable!
