While awaiting the trolley, my family and I decided to head into the Visitor Center to cool off. When we entered, I was surprised at how spacious it was inside! The ceilings were extremely high, there was art all around us and because it was empty, it seemed even bigger. As soon as we entered we were greeted by a man in the front shop and he let us know that he was there for any questions we had. Since we were just killing time, we decided to just stroll around the building. There was a booth selling drinks and snacks, a nice touch for visitors popping in on their way to tour the city. We decided to head further up the stairs and stumbled into a spot that had tour brochures for so many local Southern cities and some sweet ladies behind the counter to help guide visitors. I ended up walking to the gift shop and began chatting with another sweet woman behind the counter. I was in awe of the most beautiful handcrafted miniature version of the Forsyth fountain and we talked about it for 10 or 15 minutes. It was truly one of the most beautiful pieces I've seen in a minute, obviously delicately crafted with so much love and intention. The woman at the counter told me stories of customers who have purchased the piece for special reasons, such as a mother who flew in to buy it as a surprise cake topper for her son's wedding as he proposed to his fiance at the fountain. How beautiful! Although we weren't there very long, I really enjoyed our visit! read more

If you need to know the story of Savannah which its very rich and interesting this is the place to be. They have parking spots which it isn't free and you are supposed to pay by hours you are there and its close by the truly that you are supposed to take if you are here for tour. The museum itself was very interesting. They also had two very cute gift shops with unique products, a coffee shop and great employees. We enjoyed our short trip in Savannah visitor center and I suggest if you are here dont miss this tour. You will learn a lot from this beautiful city. read more

Arrived later close to closing the information available was terrific and I could have gotten a whole history of Savannah from the staff if I stayed long enough. The film seemed older close To late 80s or early 90s. It that actually made it more enjoyable for me. Just like the film I remember from my classes. Did not have time for the museum this visit. The GPS nearly led me astray going to the Savannah Visitor Center. Had it not been that I found a family in the same boat, who knows if I would have eventually gotten there. Anyway, upon arrival, I spoke to a woman as I was there to get on a trolley tour with Old Savannah Tours. As it stands, I had to go inside and register and there was a bit of a line. When everything was said and done, I paid for some water and we were soon on our way. The following evening, it was much of the same except this time a shuttle picked me up for a ghost tour. Honestly speaking, this center was just okay. It got the job done with the tours and general information. Not much else. I didn't experience any of the so-called above and beyond Georgian hospitality I've heard so much about, much less experience rude jerks. Everyone was just efficient and polite. read more

Great place to park your car and take a trolley tour. They have lots of pamphlets inside on all of the surrounding areas. They have large clean bathrooms. And there's a gift shop. I think I noticed a little cafe for drinks or snacks, but I have to be honest, I didn't pay attention to it in our hurry to get on the trolley. read more

Location- 301 Martin Luther King Blvd Savannah GA 31401 Inside you'll see a shop filled with cute Savannah trinkets and souvenirs also a mini museum of actual historical Savannah history. See how the colonial olden days were and how the Savannah family got its name. The Savannah family quilts, house decor pieces, and even the horse carriage buggies. Also you can see the original soldier uniforms over the years and even a part of a train that once was, also you can see the original bench from the movie forest hump and the famous suitcase in the movie. The only downfall was the price of the mini museum was a bit expensive but overall it was definitely something to see once in a lifetime. read more

It was my first time utilizing the Savannah Visitor Center, but it probably will not be my last. Really, the benefit of parking here is the the 1st 1 hour is free in order to give you time to check out the gift shop and museums inside. After that first hour, the parking rate is only $1.00 per hour. This means that if you would like to leave your car here all day while wandering around the city, you can as long as you are wiling to pay about $10.00. As far as the gift shops inside, they are fine. There are two to explore with a wide range of gifts. There is also a historic museum, but beware that it will cost you $10.00 per person to visit it and it is a rather small museum that will probably only take you about 15 minutes to see. My main complaint is that although the parking lot is open at 8:00AM, the actual gift shops, museum, and restrooms don't open until 9:00AM. Also, they shut everything back up at 4:00PM. I did plenty of research before parking here and almost every website said these facilities would be open until at least 5:00PM. Google Maps even stated they were open until 6:30PM. Not sure if this is a result of staffing shortages or what, but it would have been nice to have that extra hour to take advantage of the shops and restrooms. read more

The home of the Savannah Visitor Center was originally the passenger terminal of the Central of Georgia Railroad. You'll notice several old railroad cars at one end of the building. I had to share my experience because I believe human kindness is more rare these days than I'd like to admit. My 87 yo mom and I went to Savannah for the day and took a tour that the last stop dropped us off at Savannah visitor center as the skies opened up and it started to pour rain!! We were able to use the restroom before the building was closing due to the severe storm. We were extremely concerned because we still had a .4 mile walk to our car from the center. An older gentleman named Richard worked there and saw our concern. He offered to drive us to our car and we took him up on his generous offer!! I was so grateful for his kindness and he would not take any monetary offer for his help!!! Just wanted to let him know how very much his act of kindness made our day!!! read more

Once we finished our first Trolley tour, we debarked, then went inside, used the restroom and visited the gift shop. I picked up a book on Haunted Savannah and my mom picked up a coffee pad that is magnolia scented. The building is beautiful and just down from where we stayed while in town. read more

A very nice Visitor Center. It is on one side of town but we used it a few times for their public clean restrooms. Staff was friendly and had some good information. There is a gift shop as well. Definitely a must stop spot when you visit Savannah, and you have never been. It will look like you have to pay for parking, but I don't think you have to if it's less than an hour. Here you will find a bunch of pamphlets for tours, restaurants, places to visit, etc. There are tour trolleys parked here too to catch. There is a museum here as well if you want to check it out. We were intrigued by this old building and for needing a little bit more information about Savannah also since we had evacuated from Charleston South Carolina due to Hurricane Florence. When we went inside we saw that it was an old bank building which could be seen plainly at the rear of the building with the large round, shiny steel bank vault doors. The ceiling height was that of a two-story building although it was only one story that I could see. After glancing around and taking one picture finally a lady came up and asked us if she could help. I am glad that it was not the only reason that we went inside of the building was to get information as it took quite a while for the elderly but quite nice lady to come talk to us. read more

We travel a fair amount, so we try to hit up the Visitor Centers to see all that the area has to offer so we can really enjoy the best of the area we are in. This sounds easier than it really is since so many cities have some off-the-path great food and places to go. Savannah, GA is right up there with cities that have a ton to do, both in the historic area, and surrounding city. Stopping in here is a great way to get started on having a fun-filled trip. There is plenty of parking, and as long as you are only visiting the center itself, you can park for free up to an hour, if I remember right. Once inside, you'll see a small gift shop, sitting area, a food vendor, and upstairs is the main portion of the tourist info. There were several helpful associates around to give you great info and suggestions. It's always nice to hear from locals, since they would know what is best to spend your time on. The setup is easy to navigate, as they have it broken up by restaurants, events, entertainment, etc. So you can easily go to whichever section is of interest for you. Little gift shop and some artwork on the wall. Regarding parking... it's confusing, our directions took us last the place but it's tucked away to the left when you turn off MLK. Be sure and stay towards the trees near the building as that's the parking lot. Otherwise you'll end up by the trolly parking and have to pay. read more

What a beautiful river side city/town. Nice 2 and 1/2 hour ride from home. Great little get away. I always stay near or on broughton street. This gives you access to all the highlights in walking distance. City market, river street and more. The people who work in businesses here are all southern charmed. They really accommodate visitors on the same level of kindness and professionalism. This was one of our first stops to get a parking pass. We were very glad we rented a car. We were easily able to go to Hilton Head, Tybee Island several times and with a little one was able to cut the amount of walking down. We were able to purchase two separate parking passes to cover the days we were there. They have lots of flyers of things to do and restaurants to eat at. Parking at the center itself is free IF you park for less than an hour. If parking for a tour you will need to pay. read more

Gift shops, a museum, and a movie that tells you all about the history of Savannah. The place is staffed by helpful mavens who are eager to answer your questions and mark down on their tally sheets the state from which you are visiting. There are hundreds of brochures about everything in the area to pick up here. Many of the city's tour buses depart from here (among other places), and there are even two restaurants next door if you want to grab something Southern to eat. The place used to be a railcar parking lot, and one of the dining areas is an actual old retired railcar. Perhaps special-est of all, they have gorgeous well maintained public washrooms complete with a full sized amazing free-standing (antique?) wooden changing table for baby that would serve as the nicest piece of furniture in my house if it were in my house. Parking in their lot is at most $8 for the whole day. read more

We were referred to this place by relatives. It's a nice place to take refuge from the Savannah heat. They have your usual interactive displays where you can browse through for recommendations on anything Savannah tourism related . There are 2 gift shops, one at the entrance and another closer to the cafe area. There are several tables to sit and relax for awhile and outlets to recharge your phone which I liked! Also, plenty of restrooms here so take advantage while they are readily available. We didn't take advantage but there was a movie screening area as well as an area you can tour but paid admission was required. We went out of our way to come to this visitor information center because we read on tripadvisor that we could get cheap parking for the Andaz Hotel here. Unfortunately the person who was helping us did not seem like he knew what he was talking about in regards to the parking deal and we left without the discounted parking. Touring the beautiful city of Savannah, I was lucky enough to have Richard as my tour guide. Richard was very knowledgeable about Savannah's rich history and kept us laughing. Tonight he wore a Christmas lights necklace but he wants everyone to know that tomorrow he will be dressed as an elf as he cruises around the historical city. Since we started our trolley tour by this visitor center, we decided to stop in for a few minutes afterward. This is where you would go to purchase the Savannah parking pass. It provides you with unlimited street or city garage parking for 1 or 2 days. It's a good deal and you won't have to worry about keeping quarters for the meters. Based on the timing of our visit, we ended up not purchasing it since the meters aren't enforced after a certain time. Keep that in mind when weighing your options. I can also see it being a great alternative if you are staying within the historic district and don't want to pay your hotel's parking/valet fees. Even if you don't need or want the parking pass, I'd recommend at least stopping here to pick up a map. I know we live in an age where we use our phone for everything, but there's certainly value in having a physical map in hand that's geared towards visitors and the various points of interest. We also learned that Savannah offers a free transit service that does a loop of the area. We didn't end up using that either, but you can pick up a map for that here as well. Finally, we enjoyed browsing through the gift shop inside. They had some unique local items and I made my requisite fridge magnet purchase here. I liked their selection the best compared to other places we had seen up to that point. read more

This was the most miserable trip we have been on. The only thing good was we got married. The visitor center and museums were not open on New Year's Day. Even John the Baptist Church was locked. Most of the people in customer service areas were rude. We will not be back to Savannah. read more

This visitors center has a lot going on. For starters there is a large parking lot with plenty of parking. This is also where some of the tours take off from. Inside the building is a gift shop, restrooms, information center, railroad museum, children's museum and history museum, plus a small cafe and a large seating area. I only went to the gift shop, restrooms and info center, so I cannot speak about the museums. There was a lot of helpful information in the info center with pamphlets and maps. The restrooms were large and clean. And the gift shop was medium sized with an assortment of items. read more

This is a really great information center. It has tons of brochures about everything to do, helpful people, a museum, a 7 dollar day parking pass that lets you leave your car there. Theres a shuttle that can come and drop you off all over historical savannah. The people there were very friendly and nice. The only thing I'd improve upon would be the gift shops, theres three different ones throughout the building and they all have a very different selection. It'd be nice to not have to look through all 3 to find what your looking for. Also if you are looking for the Bird Girl Statue, or the bench from Forest Gump you'll have to pay 5 dollar's for the museum. Which has some other interesting things and a nice hands on section for the kids. read more
