First time here. I believe this place was bought by redwood empire. Anyhow to the review. Atmosphere: We went during lunch around 1235pm. Kitchen is open and service was great. Not many people here this early but it was quiet and relaxing for a nice lunch with alcohol. Food: Best curly fries I've had. I'm not sure what it was but soo good. Good seasoning, not overly cooked with perfect balance between fries and soft inner potato. Chicken bacon pizza. It was delicious. The cheese has a strong aroma but very tasty. Chicken and bacon weren't burnt. I would get this again. Pork apple sliders. It's good but not for my flavor profile. I don't like flavored items in my food. The wifey loved it though. She enjoyed it more than the pizza. Whiskey, they are having a big sale on their savage and cooke brand. We had a small flight from the redwood empire. Decent pours for the price. Overall, good chill place if you go early before the rush. It's in a nice area that you can walk around if you want.

Now here's a cute lil hidden gem out on Mare Island that my friends and I decided to visit this past weekend. Savage and Cooke is conveniently right by the water and offers a nice mix of industrial allure, local treasure, and social intimacy all in one. The venue is super spacious and offers the chance for groups of all kinds (pairs, small groups, large groups, etc.); during the daytime you have a cute view of the ferry building and the likes across the water. Lunch here on a sunny weekend was a great idea. I was able to try the following: - Watermelon Margarita: delicious if you like drinks with a little spice and smokiness to it! Staff told me that drinks are made in house and I was impressed. I liked that it kind of reminded me of an upscale michelada (but that was due to the spice). - Spicy Chicken Sandwich: Pretty solid for a chicken sandwich made at a distillery! It wasn't overwhelming and the flavor could've been a lot spicier, but the crispiness did what it needed to. - Cajun Fries: I feel like no place can ever go wrong if they offer Cajun fries... and this is simply one another example of "yup, it's good" Service here was excellent. Staff were sweet and very attentive, plus super informative too! I'd recommend this spot to anyone in the Vallejo area trying to stay close but catch a view and a good bonding experience.

Maps does not give good directions. Drive to the parking lot with the metal poles. Park and walk inside the metal poles. The tiny building that sits in the middle on your right is the spot. There was no signage, just guess work). The first time I went, it was under a different ownership and they had jambalaya. When I say compliments to the chef, I haven't had a Jambalaya (1000/10) that was that good since I went to New Orleans. When I went back after the new ownership, it was no longer on the menu. Very disappointing, they should have kept that on the menu (hopefully it makes a comeback). The fried chicken was decent (6/10) (but I like to taste my seasoning)and the biscuit was a 10/10 The decor was nicely set, if you are a cold person, bring a jacket, it's a cement space and the doors are Mare Island Old.

Alright, this is going to be a weird review because I am going to cater it to two different people. So, please read whichever applies to you. If you are a whiskey lover, like niche/unique places, have some extra money to spend on food and drinks AND are willing to wait more than your typical time for a restaurant service, this place is for you. The drinks are fantastic. Their rye is the best rye I've ever had. The food was tasty and pleased my southern girl heart. Overall, a special spot that we would drive out of our way to go to in the future on a day when we have no plans other than to just enjoy each other's company. If you are just looking for a spot to eat and drink and want it fast so that you can go exploring or to your next activity, have kiddos that are busy and can't sit for long, or aren't generally interested in craft/unique things but just want your standard drink, no fuss, I would not recommend going here because I know you will probably be disappointed. I am looking out for you as someone that can be all of these things on any given day! The staff is polite and kept communicating with us as we waited over an hour for our food. But, we were there for the experience and when the food came, it did not disappoint us. Also, they kept the drinks coming and we enjoyed each one. We will be back and I hope my fellow Yelpers give it a try if it sounds like something you'd enjoy!

The vibes were giving industrial feels with a beautiful upscale touch and I love that. The drinks were strong and in point... no one in our past had any complaints admit the drinks... the spicy chicken wasn't spicy at all though... the taste was pretty good but of I order spicy, that's what I want. The fries were unevenly seasoned but crispy. I'd say the dessert and drinks are the starts at this location. The servers were super accommodating. I was impressed with how they handled multiple larger parties in such a small space. Just don't come here needing to sit right away unless you have reservations... Definitely try them out. Happy eating!!!

A little in the cuts, but certainly worth it. Great cocktails, food and atmosphete. The customer service was phenomenal *****. If you're a whiskey fan, then this is worth a trip to Mare Island. Would definitely recommend the fried chicken sandwich paired w/ their whiskey in a jar cocktail. A nice southern feel of crispy fried chicken w/ their version of an old fashioned. The shrimp poboy was good, just be ready to have your bread and fries soaked in the sauce. If you're feeling fancy in the summer, the paper crane is a nice cocktail for a warm summer day. Would definetly recommend calling ahead for a reservation, there is limited seating. However the wait time for walk-ups doesn't seem that long.

I was thoroughly impressed with my meal of shrimp and grits. I also had a fall drop which is essentially a lemon drop with herbal tea which is amazing I make something like that at home all the time. Now it has a name. It was a great easy atmosphere great servers friendly welcoming even on a rainy November day.

If y'all know me, then you know I'm something of a chicken sando connoisseur. If there's a chicken sandwich on the menu, I'm there! Yes, this is a whiskey distillery but ya girl doesn't drink like that. I like to eat though and the menu doesn't disappoint. TBH the menu is pretty limited. It's mostly fried chicken options, a couple seafood options, so if you like red meat then options might be a tad light for you. They have two chicken sando options. Regular or spicy. I would normally lean towards the spicy version, but it looked way too saucy on other people's photos, so I decided to opt for the regular flavor to get a base standard. The chicken was juicy, the honey butter gave it a nice layer of sweetness, the slaw was fresh, but it was definitely missing that heat I like. I added a side of Korean BBQ sauce and that took the sando up like 5 notches! Definitely get the KBBQ sauce (upcharge for sauces though). This comes with sea salt fries too but I opted for cajun fries instead. The fries are crinkly.. not my fav cut and the cajun flavor doesn't come through either. The older you get, the more veggies are crucial to your diet so give the harissa cauliflower bites a try! The flavor on this is sooooo good, and it's served with a greek yogurt dip that's tangy and creamy, and balances the spice on the cauliflower so well. My only gripe is this isn't crispy the way I expected. Some of the cauli chunks were huge too, so the smaller chunks were much better since they had more of a crisp. The cajun crab dip was okay.. Tasted more fishy than crabby. These are served with crostini but some of them tasted more stale than crisp. I actually dipped the fries into this and enjoyed that a little more. I'd probably skip this the next time, and opt for the cauli again instead. All over IG, I saw the sea salt chocolate chunk cookie so I knew I was gonna finish my meal strong with this one, but it fell a bit short. The cookie is huge, jam packed with chocolate, and came out warm, but it fell flat. The sea salt sprinkles were nice and added that little oomph I was looking for but it just didn't have the buttery, chewy taste/texture that I look for in a cookie. Is it weird to say the chocolate chunks didn't taste chocolatey? lol IDK but it was just alright. Their other dessert option is peach cobbler but this one also fell short. It comes in a mini pie tin, and had nice chunks of peaches in it, but the crust was super sweet, kinda dense instead of like a crisp. The cobbler overall was just too sweet from crust to filling, so a miss for me. Okay so maybe the food isn't the best, but it's nice vibe and the employees are super nice. Do expect a wait, even if it's not super busy. It's a good sized space but seating is limited. It's kind of hidden, and if the door is closed, hard to find as well. Just follow the signs!

We visited over a year ago when I was heavily pregnant. Food was extremely salty then. Coming back just recently to give it another try, it's much much better! The blue lemonade is still the same very very very sour. It's the same over a year later. You have to order it with alcohol, it's a huge difference. But if you order just the plain lemonade prepared to pucker up and pretty much stay that way! I love sour but it's even too much. The fried chicken sandwich is amazing and as I'm writing this I want another. My husband ordered the shrimp sandwich (forgive me because I can't remember the name) and wish he had went with the fried chicken sandwich.

On a lazy Saturday, after lunch, my friend kidnapped me aka just drove without tell me where we were going. After a 35 min drive we ended up on up at Mare Island Navel Shipyard to a hidden whisky distillery. The interior is so nice and on a lazy Saturday had a good amount of people. Drinks were amazing at $15, which is still better than the city. As it is a distillery, you can purchase bottles to go. In the Iced Toddy, they use their bad sweater which is a nice spiced whisky (nothing like fireball). It is a little too sweet for me, would get it with half the honey sweetner. The old fashion was just WOW. The tikka massala apple shrub sounds weird but it is one of the best old fashioned I have had. We didn't dine lunch here but had some fried pickles. Not bad, but really salty. Would prefer to try the fried chicken next time.

    Beautiful Decor!

The first thing I thought when I walked in was that even if the food wasn't that great, I would still give this place 3 to 4 stars just for the buildout and smooth vibes alone. We came here early on a Sunday evening with the hopes of finding something new in Vallejo, and boy - did we. As I said before, this place would've gotten pretty high marks regardless of the food, but since both food and service were on point, it gets all 5. BB

The space is really spacious with that clean, industrial feel, and it's incredibly comfortable to hang out in. Getting to see the distilling process up close added a whole new layer to the experience and made everything you taste feel more intentional. The whiskey selection is seriously impressive. I went with a tasting flight, which was a great way to explore their lineup--from smooth, approachable pours to more complex, higher-proof options. You can tell a lot of thought goes into both the whiskey and how it's presented. The cocktails were also a highlight. Super well-balanced and not overdone. The Old Fashioned-style drink I had was spot on--clean, strong, and exactly what you want at a whiskey bar. Food-wise, everything hit. The oysters were fresh and paired perfectly with the drinks, and the hot dog + tots combo was simple but done really well--definitely exceeded expectations. Overall, this is one of those places that works for any kind of visit--whether you're diving into a full tasting or just stopping in for a drink. Great space, great whiskey, and an experience I'd absolutely come back for.
