I'm glad I had the opportunity to dine in this beautiful 150 year old restaurant. My review comes after its closure but it serves to honor the restaurant in hosting my visit. The Building is amazing where the walls and ceilings act as palettes for beautiful painted art. Stepping into the restaurant feel as if one is stepping through a time portal where one feels they are dining 151 years ago which is how old the building is. The ambiance is quite lively and energetic. Although the highlight is the space, the food is also very good. Their pretzels are served warm and fresh with a firm exterior and an interior that melts as it enters one's mouth. The soup is flavorful and healthy with not even a drop of oil pooling to the top. The schnitzel is as tender as it gets. The servers were knowledgeable and fast but it is always so busy that the restaurant should consider increasing staff as to improve customer service. Perfect location right in the heart of Marienplatz where the Glockenspiel is a stone's throw away. Overall, a wonderful restaurant to dine with great food and a beautifully historic setting!

I can really recommend this place for this kind of events with 15 up to 30 participants.

This is a somewhat local place in Munich, near the university, but not touristy. It's very quaint…read moreand charming with outdoor & indoor seating. Of course- when the weather is nice- like we had today, everyone wants to be outside. It's beautiful!! We started with the Obatzda- which I've had before & Love- it's so tasty!!, 'lecker', as Germans would say. It's a cheese spread, of sorts, served with onions, carrots, and pretzel. Our server was great... she spoke English, so we had no problem communicating. We all had Schnitzel for lunch & it did not disappoint!! It was very delicious- I definitely cannot wait to come back and have the same thing!! We could have walked from our hotel, but didn't realize until afterwards when we walked out to Maximilian Street and saw where we were. But, that's ok- it's in a beautiful area of Munich that I have not explored before so that was nice.

There are few things that I like more than drinking my sorry ass into oblivion before the morning…read moreturns to noon - and this is definitely the perfect place to do that. Not only is Germany famous for "Breakfast-Beer", it is is also famous for "Children's Breakfast-Beer". YAHOO! What potentially happy, inebriated youngsters - or am I "way-off" on that? Now I have nothing against underage inebriation. Lord knows that I did it myself: a lot: Maybe more than A LOT. But "Kriek Bier" ("Cherry Beer") is quite a nasty trick for kids. Kind of like fruit flavored vapes in the USA... Whoops! Anyway, this is an awesome breakfast place, for German or more western morning treats. They have stunning smoked salmon, excellent eggs made in every way, killer German apple-pancakes, and "Zupper-Gut" baked goods (like homemade chocolate Brotchen) that will make you cry with morning joy. I just recommend that if you do have a kid with you - get them Fu-king Drunk. Afterall, it is legal in Germany, and a drunk kid is friggin' hilarious.

I usulally don't write reviews BUT this place made me so upset and here I am.....!…read moreThis place doesnt welcome English speakers and the waitress is so mean!!! Where is the Japanese service mentality???? And the owner is ver ignorant as well. I can see that they are busy but you shouldn't have a customee stand and wait on a rainy day with crazy lightinings. Bottom line, if you can't speak German or Japanese then do NOT go! I really dont understand why they have posting in yelp.com if they refuse to speak in English!

A small Japanese eatery tucked away in Isarvorstadt, J-Bar offers comfort food in a cozy place…read more(love the table canopy decor of Japanese fans). We came during lunchtime, and unfortunately (well, for me at least), they offer only ONE option for lunch per day, and this lunch special remains the same for the entire week except for the meat they serve (i.e. Tuesday = chicken; Wednesday = beef; Thursday = pork). With no other option, we took 2 of their lunch specials. The special of that day was sauteed beef with vegetable in a sweet brown sauce, a big (compared to what one normally gets) bowl of miso soup with lots of vegetables, and a bowl of seaweed-mixed rice. Their miso soup was something that I have never had before; aside from the usual tofu and seaweed, this soup also had eggplants, carrots, leafy greens, etc. Everything, including the rice, was flavorful that I was eventually glad that there was only one lunch special. The price was a bit steep (8.90 EUR/special), but every so often, we all deserve a tasty lunch. Looking forward to come back in the evening to try their other dishes!

Great place and convenient for us due to our stay just around the corner. We have been in Europe…read morefor about 2 weeks, and sometimes a good burger is needed! We have looked forward to all the dishes that aren't readily available at home, but sometimes good ole comfort food is what we need. This fit the bill. My wife had a salads and I opted for the cheese burger with added bacon, and a side of fries. The drinks were great as well, We so wish that the U.S. would adopt the serving style where the alcohol is in the glass and they bring the soda in a bottle to be added at the table. In the U.S., it usually comes from a soda gun that might, or might not be clean, and is always flat. My burger was cooked medium, with a bit of pink, just the way I like it. The fries were soft in the middle with a slight crunch to them, with flaky salt. My wife's salad had a bit too much dressing for her tastes but I thought it was good. We have started sharing meals this way, as our appetites are smaller now that we are getting a bit older.

While there is no direct correlation to Hamburg, Germany, the word hamburger does originate here…read more And while Munich is on the clear other side of the country, The Beef Crew here know their hamburger. For my first time here I tried their "Cheese Explosion Burger". This monster lives up to its name! I forget how many cheeses this thing has because quite frankly I never heard of some of them before. But rather than ketchup, mayo, or some special dressing...this burger comes with nacho cheese as its condiment. Again the name: Cheese Explosion. As you can see from my photo it is also garnished with two kinds of fried cheese skewered to the top bun. Cheese Explosion. At the risk of stating the obvious: this is a burger for folks who love cheese. Also, if you don't like pink in your burger...make sure to tell them. They serve all their burgers medium.
